One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I've wanted to try Q for quite some time since another Yelp friend had informed me of Q's delicious burgers, but every time I walked by the place was packed. I don't like waiting for a table so I'd pass and keep walking. Recently though, I got lucky. A big group must have just left because I found myself inside a rather empty Q on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Just the interior of this place gets high marks from me. The decor just screams out "FUN" with the Christmas lights in the back, the magnetic letters throughout the walls and the unique table tops each depicting a different theme. For the record, I hand picked my table just based on this table top design (http://static.px.yelp....) which I thought was pretty cool.
For Sundays there is an additional brunch menu, but my choice of interest was the burger that I had only heard about. I ordered the 1/2 pound Harris Ranch Angus burger cooked medium with grilled onions added on. The burger comes on an artisan bun with thick-cut Garlic Kennebec Fries on the side. The friendly waitstaff brought me my cold soda and an ice water as my eyes wandered around checking out the restaurant's decor.
The wait was quite minimal when the thick burger arrived. Accompanied by a couple of spears of butter lettuce, some thick cut tomato and pickle slices and the biggest red onion slice I've ever seen (http://static.px.yelp....) I just had a feeling this was going to be a good eat. The burger was cooked perfectly with lots of pink in the meat and beefy juices overflowing and dripping onto the plate. The grilled onions could have been cooked a bit longer, but other than that this burger was perfect.
The seasoning on the fries was quite interesting too because I expected garlic fries, but I got a cross between Cajun spices and garlic goodness on the meaty fries. The flavor was kind of unique and very fitting for a place that is as unique as Q.
I'm hoping to return for another visit. Maybe one of these days I'll walk by and the place will be not as crowded again, but based on just my one visit I must admit Q created one of the best burgers I've ever had.
We drove 20 minutes to get here after searching on-line for traditional American restaurants and boiling it down to either Q or Darla's for my dad's birthday dinner. I called earlier and the waitress told me to arrive by 6 to make sure that we got a table for our party of 6. When we arrived we found Clement Street to be a busy area and we had to park some way away. Waiters were attentive and well natured and the drinks list was comprehensive. The menu had classic favourites like meatloaf, southern fried chicken and Angus burger. We ordered all of these and mussels and calamari for appetisers plus a mixed salad. Out of these, the meatloaf and the mussels were the favourites. The salad was OK and had balasmic drizzled over it but the portion was tiny for the $5.25. It looked like one of those out of bag jobs from Safeway. The Macaroni Cheese with Tater Tots was gobbled down by my 7 year old son but he commented that it wasn't as delicious as the out of the box type from Trader Joes. He left most of the Tater Tots for the adults to eat. This entree at around $10 was definitely over priced considering that its basically a kids meal.
Very kid friendly and our kids had a lot of fun in the back corner table which has a tree stuck in the middle of the table with a U-shaped bench around it. They were climbing under the table with much delight.
The ambient lighting was a touch too dim and could do with an overhaul with some brighter spot lighting to keep the dinner crowd happy but also uplift the dingy gloom which envelops you when you enter.
In summary, nothing really disappointed but nothing excelled either. Would we come back? Probably not. The meal, with 5 entrees, 2 appetisers, a salad and 2 alchoholic drinks came to $132 including an 18% tip which was not expensive but nothing seemed to click. This place doesn't know whether it wants to be a diner, a family restaurant or a noisy place for young adults to enjoy some good drinks and some comfort food. Despite my reservations, this placed seemed very popular but I suspect that that may be more down to a lack of choices in the neighbourhood for American cuisine rather than its excellence in any one area.
Sunday Brunch in the neighborhood:
- Short walk from house, check
- Eggs Benny (multiple versions), check
- Unique and artistic renditions of breakfast faves, check check (think a pork loin and apple omelette, or a skirt steak breakfast burrito, yum!)
- Pint glass mimosas, check
- Decent wine selection, check
- Nice funky decor, check
- Fast and efficient service, check
What more could a girl ask for?
Went here last night when my BF and had dinner. Wasn't bad! Place is really cool looking inside.. all the tables have something in them, mine had a spider! We had the corn on the cob, appetizer.. it was 4 bucks and i would say that it was not worth it.. We also had this delicious salad to start. Spinach, apples, walnuts.. YUMMY!
For dinner my boyfriend had the short ribs with fries and baked beans.. he said the ribs were dry.. they stacked everything on top of each other with both of our entrees. I'm not a big fan of that! His ribs came with fries that were soggy from the baked beans and the BBQ from the ribs and some red pepper thing. I had the salmon, with tater tots (AMAZING) and some veggie mix with a sweet potato.. Mine was yummy but the sauce that came with the papaya salsa..not so good.. the waitress recommended it.. Salmon would have been better with a sauce... i just picked the wrong one! HAHA...
Service was great, food was mediocre, the dessert was AMAZING. An apple crisp... just order it you will love it.. Not a bad spot.. I hear the mac and cheese is to die for... Our whole meal was $54 bucks for two appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert.. so not to shabby..
Definitely worth checking out!
Had dinner here for the 1st time tonight with friends. I had seen this menu last week so knew exactly what I wanted when I walked in. Now, there are quite a few things on the menu that I would like to try, but this HAD to be first. The Mac and Cheese with tater tots (and you can ask for extra tots!) Yes, its as junk foody as it sounds. It's also as deliciously yummy as it sounds :) The mac and cheese was rich cheese - not mild cheese. Quite good. And the tots were...well...tater tots. Have you ever had a bad tater tot?
Also got the spinach salad which was very good. Candied walnuts, goat cheese, apples and eggs (onions to but I skipped those.) A good sized salad too.
This place is billed as comfort food which was plainly clear on the menu. As we sat there, we saw plate after plate come out of the kitchen with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy - yum! If you are looking for something light or really healthy - go elsewhere. But for me - that's why I eat at home - to be healthy. When I go out - I want something yummy!
Their wine list was pretty darn big. Especially for a restaurant their size (not that big.) They even had a yummy cava by the glass :)
Couldn't manage dessert but their offerings looked very yum. Pipin' Hot Chocolate Chip Cookies?! Next time!!!
The service was great. We went after seeing a show so we got in right before the dinner rush so no waiting for a table. The waiters were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
I would definitely go back.
Being from Texas, I like to occasionally binge on hearty, deep fried comfort food, so Q's convenient location to my apt, decent prices, and great food always satisfy my cravings.
The calamari was excellent, not too heavily breaded and plenty for three people to share. The fried chicken and Harris Ranch burger have never disappointed each time my friends or I have ordered them. I shuddered at paying $14 for meatloaf one night, but it was moist and flavorful.
For dessert, the apple crisp a la mode was dank.
Yumdigitydog!
I love Q for all of their quirky takes on delicious comfort food. I happen to be a huge fan of the mac n' cheese w/ tater tots, but have loved everything meal I have enjoyed at Q.
It's simply a wonderful place with kind, attentive staff and food that rocks!
Cheap bastards will be shocked to know that I can rate something this high considering my bill was over ten dollars. There's a first for everything, but yes, this cheap bastard must explain.
First of all, there's a specials menu. Every cheap bastard knows to always look for one. It's kind of like how women always go to the sale section first when they go into a star without even thinking about it (or at least the cheap bastardettes do). I didn't think the menu was all that special at first glance, however. Everything was about ten bucks!
But I found the lunch ribs for a little less than ten bucks. It was $9.75, so I decided to give it a shot. I eyed the corned beef hash for a long time, but my friend ordered it so I went with the ribs.
Surprisingly, the hash was a quarter more than the ribs. But I felt the ribs were a much better value because you get two pork spare ribs, fries, baked beans and a dab of pickled slaw. Sure, that's an expensive lunch, but I had to take into account that:
- I'm in the Bay Area
- I'm at a diner that is surrounded by a near Chinatown
- Relatively speaking, ten bucks for this kind of meal is pretty good
- I'm in the Bay Area
Ultimately, I felt I got a lot of value from the meal. I was stuffed and it hit all the flavors I wanted. The only thing I would have liked more is if I ordered the fries on a separate plate to keep them from soaking the bbq sauce from the ribs. What can I say, I like my fries crispy.
Whoever came up with mac and cheese topped with tator tots is a mad genius. This menu favorite seems to be the talk of Q. Being highly recommended by fellow Yelpers and our server as well, I knew I was in for a treat. Once again, Yelp managed to not disappoint. Though I prefer my tots to be a tad more crispy, the cheesiness of this delectable dish started quite a party in my mouth. Portions were huge and more than filling. Would be awesome if they threw in some jalapenos for that extra kick! However, for $9.50, this simple meal can be cooked up at home for half the price and then customized to one's own taste buds. Regardless, I highly recommend this dish to anyone who decides to give this place a try.
I also ordered the grilled corn on the cob w/ jalapeno-lime butter and sadly, it did not even compare to Jon's Street Eats corn (lime aioli, chili flakes, & grated parmesan). Not memorable enough to try again. I say save the $4 and split a pitcher of sangria instead with your party. For $16 total, it was the perfect addition to our meal and we walked away with smiley faces.
Service was A-OK, meaning nothing superb, but enough to feed us and keep us happy. The decor can be described as funky and eclectic. I almost felt as if the holidays had already arrived with all the Christmas lights dangling across the walls. Prices can be a bit steep depending on what you order. I said it once, and I'll say it again - go with the mac and cheese!! If there is one thing that will draw me back to Q, it's that.
Too bad all of us were stuffed to the max. I really wanted to try the grilled banana. Womp.
Their mac n cheese was deeeeeee-li-shus!! Tator tots and calamari also very good!
I ordered their: Southern Fried Fulton Valley Natural Chicken on Mashed Potatoes with Country Gravy and Braised Vegetables ($14.50).
Let me start by saying, "I LOVE FRIED CHICKEN!" (You should check out my fried chicken list). Anyway, I thought their fried chicken was a little too dry. The skin was nice and crispy but a little *too* crispy. Mashed potatoes were good but not great. I wasn't a big fan of their gravy. It tasted kind of "sweet" to me.
Also got to sample their banana walnut pancakes. It was very good! I'll definitely be back. =)
Simple dishes served ludicrously fresh and tasty. I've only eaten here once (so far) but I was shocked by the quality of the food from this unassuming storefront. I had the fried calamari appetizer and salmon sandwich. I was astounded by how good it was. From the outside, Q looks like some bland urban faux-foodie spot. So, I guess I was expecting the worst--which made it all the better.
This place is right around the corner from me and I have never noticed it. Went a while back for the first time just to see what it was about. Went again two days ago and fell in love with it. It is comfort food at its best!
Everything on the menu was amazing due to the waiter let me sample most of it because I was indecisive. They have an amazing wine bar and great service. I would def go back for more.
Cheap food at cheap prices close to home. Now this is what I'm talking about. I've been here twice finally after nearly living so close for a year.
Sangria pitcher - too sweet. Dangerous. Ok. They have lots of wine and beer. No mixed drinks.
Corn on cob - ok. It's corn on the cob, nothing to write home about.
Fried croquettes - ok.
Cioppino - great, spicy. Good portion of clams and mussels.
Mac 'n cheese - delish. Just like we made in high school Home Ec. class, with real shredded cheese. Delish.
Ribs - great sweet sauce and slaw. The rib sauce is good for dipping fries. Love.
Pork loin - my husband said it was delish.
Vegan grill - delish. Like.
Apple pie - I'm not an apple pie fan and still not, but this was pretty good.
The sauces/salsas they have on their dishes are all so good. Addictive.
The first time was $72 incl. tax and tip for four. I'd say it's more than a fair deal. With my husband it was around the same for us both, plus four drinks.
My husband quite likes this place now. So lucky for him, he has this place and Giorgio's to choose from on Clement Street (he's not fond of Clement Street like I am).
This place is awesome!
The venue is super cute, the food is really yummy (they make the BEST mac and cheese) and the waitstaff is really nice.
This is a great place to go for something to munch on after work, or for a nice snack.
Delicious! Great wine list.
The "Constantly Upbeat Happy Guy" (that I have always been for as long as I have known) found myself in a gloomy mood in recent weeks...for good reasons that need not be mentioned. We have all been there.
To match my mood, I thought that strolling through cold, foggy Clement street on a Monday night was the perfect place to walk and talk aimlessly with friends who were probably ready to toss a straight jacket on me and drop my 'sorry ass' off at the nearest emergency room in San Francisco.
Thankfully, I was brought to Q.
Warm, Cozy, Funky Atmosphere with people enjoying themselves. Deschutes Porter and Marin Brewing Company IPA on Tap.
Grilled Angus Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes, Country Gravy and Braised Vegetables. Fried Calamari with Chili-Lime Aioli. Caesar Salad with Aged Asiago. Macaroni and Cheese with Tater Tots.
Not necessarily the fanciest menu, but good, hearty food and drink in an atmosphere that is surrounded by people who appreciate the setting and its concept. I NEED places that make me happier, and that's exactly what this place did for me after a very bad month.
So, thank you, Q, for saving me from having one of my friends drop me off at the Psych-Ward. You made me realize that things in the world are still going to be okay if you learn to enjoy life and eat things like Meatloaf from places like YOU.
This place has:
Amazing arcade like clear top tables
Catfish with Cajun sauce and corn.. YUM. First time I've had fried catfish since I've left the south, and I was impressed.
Really cool decor and artwork
Grilled banana dessert covered in whipped cream and chocolate sauce
Surf & Turf (lamb and shrimp) entree is really good as well.. although the lamb was a bit fishy.
I initially came upon this beautiful find when I was headed to Inner Richmond for some Buckshot skeeball action. Not wanting to have a weak rolling arm, I decided to get some grub. I walk in and a nice hostess escorts me to my "Mr. T" themed table. I ordered the split pea soup as I pondered ordering a beer with my meal. As if the Mr. T gold chains were alerted to my dilemma; the magnetic alphabetic letters spelled out, "The jibba jabba stops here!" Agreeing with the "T" I summoned the waitress and put in my beer order. After having excellence washed down with excellence I left to the Buckshot to "Teachin' fools some basic rules!"
I've frequented this restaurant many a times since and have never been disappointed. Whether it's the mac and cheese with tator tots or their catfish I leave satisfied. If you haven't had their $16 pitcher of sangria...well...Mr T says it best, "I pity the fool!"
Absolutely order the Sangria, it's amazing! I love that they have the ultimate comfort foods like mac and cheese with tater tots. They also have a few really good vegan/vegetarian options that don't leave me sad and forlorn while my friends chow down on their fried chicken or steak and mashed potatoes.
Went this morning for brunch. I had the mixed fish enchiladas with black beans and pickled coleslaw ... bf had the chorizo scramble. Both dishes were satisfying and well portioned. We washed our meals down with large-sized Mimosas, which were quite delicious ... and also coffee, which was average.
Service was good with a relaxed approach.
Ambiance and decor is funky/quirky, and somewhat gritty.
So everything was pretty good, but for some reason, I'm not clamoring to return *scratching head*. If there was a 3.5 star rating, that's what I would click.
This place was just OK for me.
Went here with a few friends for brunch, and besides the cool decor and magnet letters on the walls, we weren't really amused. Our fruit and granola plates were...well...just fruit and granola. I mean...you could've added some originality or flare to it. I mean, special dipping sauce or something.
My friend and I split the banana walnut pancakes and while they were good....they were just too dense to enjoy that fluffy pancake feeling.
Not to mention our waitress was super RUDE. Just because our party is large enough for an automatic gratuity doesn't mean you treat us like shit. She NEVER even checked up on our table once and basically held a "what do you want now" attitude as our party members trickled in.
Now I still have the receipt for this meal. But I decided I won't be a bitch today and put her on blast.
Just goes to show that no matter how good the food tastes, bad service is what customers always remember...
Things that make this place great:
-magnet letters you can play around with at your table
-every table is different
-the decor looks like a cross between an industrial loft and Tim Burton's "A Nightmare Before Christmas"
-tasty focaccia bread
I ordered the caesar salad with chicken and my friend got the salmon sandwich with fries. His fries were really good (they had some kind of salty seasoning on them which was dee-lish), but I wasn't really overwhelmed by the rest of the food. I was just whelmed.
I would probably come back here if I was in the Inner-Richmond and craving some American-esque type food (which is probably a weird thing to crave in the IR since you best be eating some pho or Burmese). I hear their brunch is worth checking out, so I may have to come back just for that.
any place i can stumble into after midnight and drunkenly shout the magic word "tater tots" making them materialize in front of me deserves at least 4 stars. also, when i can demand mayonnaise to dip my tater tots in and not be judged, it is a good day. what can i say? sometimes i'm easy!

It's all about comfort food here and sad to say but my fave thing on the menu is the good old "white trash" mac n cheese with tater tot's on top. Too funny!
Pretty good selection of food with healthy alternatives as well. Quirky ambiance.
Love the array of different bottles of wine to choose from plus I live right around the corner. I have yet to experience their brunch so maybe that will be the reason for my next visit.
TOTS! TOTS TOTS!

I also recommend a brunch there. Expect a wait...but it's super worth the wait. Home fries = YUMMMMMMmmmm
Best dinner out!!
My food was so delicious! Every single taste mixed so well, I can't wait to go back!
I ate the herb crusted mahi mahi on leek cake with sauteed snow peas...OMG... so amazing. There are either no words or way too many words to express the pure pleasure I experienced from eating this dish, it was heavenly, blissful. I took time to savor each bite. Seriously. I got the white wine that was paired with it and it made the taste experience even better! I loved the artsy decor of the restaurant, every table was unique. The servers were really friendly and helpful. The food was totally fresh. My friend got the meatloaf and she said it was the best meatloaf she has had in awhile. We also got the chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, so amazing!!! Totally worth the price! I absolutely LOVE Q!!!!!
3.5 stars, for now.
I thought it was such a fun place!! The ambiance is fantastic, low mood lighting all over the restaurant. It could be a quirky date spot if that is your thing. I think it is a great place for a small group or to bring some kids, there is a wall with magnetic letters that the kidlets or adults can play with. I felt accomplished that we managed to use all the letters in our space for a word. :)
The food was solid. I had the fish tacos and they were interesting. There was a slightly sweet flavor to the sauce and the fish was flash fried so it was not heavy. It was a great light dinner but filling none the less. I also tried the Asiago broccoli/cauliflower mash. OH man!! That is like a pile of cheesy goodness that would kill you if were to eat the whole thing in one sitting though.
My dinner mates had the ribs, and the salmon. All was stated to be delish, I personally did not try though. I did nibble at the tots though-gotta love tots.
The service was great, friendly and helpful from all the workers. Not just our direct server. I like that it is like a family affair there, everyone is willing to help.
BTW, I heard a rumor that they are going to have a tot stand at Outside Lands Festival!!! YES!
We went to Q on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. This is a smallish place, but with a really interesting decor. It's got a somewhat industrial, neighborhoody pub kind of vibe. And of course, the alphabet magnets on the walls are always cool.
We had the Bacon Avocado Benedict and the Omelet special; both were good, but I would say they were not particularly remarkable. The service was excellent; it was attentive and quick. Q was just a smidge on the pricey side (borderline frou-frou), but not ridiculous. Parking can be a pain in this area on Sundays.
We were originally planning on going to The Front Porch that Friday night for dinner but I didn't get to make a reservation so I thought that maybe we could just show up and get seated. Ummm...I should really know better by now....We got there and they told us it would be over an hour wait. NO THANK YOU! So we decided to go to Q instead. Parking was a bitch...but what else is new in SF. The place is pretty casual and we were able to get seated within 10 minutes. Our table had a Mr. T theme...pictures/drawings inside the glass table. I didn't really like the seating....I sat on the booth end while the hubby was on a chair and I felt like my legs were constricted...I couldn't cross them because the table was too low...or maybe the seat was too high? Around the restaurant they have those magnetic letters (you know...the ones you had when you were a kid or the ones you kids have that are on the refrigerator) that you can spell things with to kill time while waiting for your food.
On our menu that night:
Appetizers:
Potato Croquettes with Asiago, Rosemary and Smoked Tomato Salsa - Ehhh... pretty mediocre.
Grilled Corn On The Cob with Jalapeno-Lime Butter - This was OK. Tasty but I've had/made better.
Main Dishes:
Macaroni and Cheezy with Tater Tots - I was expecting more from this dish since I've heard it was really good BUT the cheese didn't taste too good and it was a bit runny. I killed the tater tots though...hahaha!
Slammin' Wild Pacific King Salmon Burger on Focaccia with Chili-Lime Aioli and Garlic Fries - Took a small bite out of this from the hubby and it was yummy. The focaccia bread that they used was good as well as their fries.
Dessert:
Grilled Banana (with whipped cream, caramelized walnuts chocolate and caramel sauce, ice cream) - Not sure what I was expecting from this but it sounded like it would be good. I mean it was good but just nothing extraordinary about it. Kind of tasted like a regular banana split except the skin of the banana was left on when they grilled it.
Overall...it was an average meal and nothing really stuck out that would make me want to go back.
We went here for brunch after a recommendation. Our experience was okay overall.
At 10:00AM they had just opened and were seated at the big table with a tree growing out the middle of it. I thought that was cool, and the walls have alphabet magnets all over throughout the restaurant.
When the last of our party showed up though, a waitress came over to greet them, but it didn't come out very friendly. She sounded a little cold, like she wanted us to just order get it over with. I genuinely felt that because we were a big enough party for them to earn an automatic, included gratuity that they felt no need to really take care of us. We were never checked on, service wasn't friendly. Seriously, don't take advantage of the gratuity, you may get a big tip this time, but you won't your customers won't be paying a return visit.
That's my only complaint honestly, my food was pretty good! I got the fried french toast and shared the banana walnut pancakes. I'd go with the french toast, it was crunchy, and fluffy. The pancakes were too thick and not that memorable. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals, mostly various scrambles which sounded pretty good to me.
All in all, I wasn't really psyched about this place. I don't know if I'd come back, only because my experience with the food and service just wasn't anything special. When I had called in to see if I could make a reservation (they don't take them), the woman was super friendly! It's also a shame, because I hear their other offerings on the lunch and dinner menus are pretty delicious too.
Oh. Well.
We had to wait a while for our table. Service was good, tater tots were awesome, risotto was all right (not enough mushrooms), steak was too rare, and the meatloaf was not bad!
Would go back for the tater tots!
Thank goodness for friends in the Inner Rich! Otherwise, it would have taken me way too long to find the deliciousness that Q serves up in their retro inspired digs.
Looking for a casual dinner, and settling on Q, I was pretty excited since we were trying a new place. I initial thought the decor gave off a diner vibe, and I still kind of think it does, but fortunately it's not the typically greasy, yucky diner food you would expect. It's American cuisine served the Q way.
If you want to be traditional and go with the mac and cheese or tots (tater of course) you are totally covered. Burgers, fried chicken, a vegan feast and the custom "journey grills" help round out the menu. I went with the portabello journey grill with wild rice and was so happy. You can choose a side of mashed potatoes, tots, or rice. It was big and tasty. I highly recommend the marinated tofu and the tomato sauce option that you can opt for in the journey grill section.
The worst part about dinner was not having room for the desserts that were listed on a large wall when we walk in. I will plan ahead next time.
Friendly service, free refills on the diet coke, and magnets to play with at your table; not much more to ask for from Q!
Ugh...how can Q disappoint me after so long of being a fan???? Well, go there for breakfast one day and you will see. JEEBUS!!!
First off, my bf and I walked in and sat at one of the fun tables. However, in the daylight the place looks extremely different and sadly, dirty too. So the "fun tables" are now the icky-OMG-where's the Lysol-tables. We got our menus and then my bf got up to take a call outside. I sat at that table for the next 15 minutes with the server helping both tables on either side of me and completely ignoring the fact that I have no water and more importantly no coffee in front of me. Does she acknowledge me? Does she even think...hey, I wonder if this girl is thirsty as she looks a little hungover and super tired? Nope! Finally, I have to practically wave my arms 2 inches in front of her face to say "Can I have a cup of coffee?"
My bf comes back and now she says good morning and what can she get us. REALLY???? Am I invisible without my bf? We order our meals and when they were delivered it was pure disappointment. No flavor whatsoever on my brioche bread, eggs benedict with tomato and avocado. The bread, which she said was made there, was the saddest part. I forget what bf ordered, but he was not impressed either.
I'm not sure when we will be back now as I finally saw what the place really looks like when it's not dark outside, but we definitely will not be back for breakfast. That's for sure!
Came here with my favorite dining compadre, Patricia P, for her farewell dinner before she left me for her Parisian vacation. After a long day of shoveling in delicious baked goods at her pastry party at her cooking school, we hobbled over to her house and I lounged whilst she packed and then we finally decided on Q for her last American meal for awhile.
We started off with the macaroni & cheese with tator tots appetizer! This was outfreakingstanding. The only thing which could've made this a better appetizer would've been bacon bits and a few extra tator tots. But bacon makes everything better. It was really good, especially covered in Tabasco (since I like everything ridiculously spicy).
For entrees, Patty had the fried chicken and mashed potatoes which looked pretty good and I had the grilled chicken with the hot bbq sauce over mashed potatoes with grilled veggies. The mashed potatoes were just ok. I really prefer my potatoes to be chunkier w/ the skins tossed in. The chicken was good, but the bbq was just ok, which I guess I was expecting since California has clearly proven to me that they suck at bbq.
The service was great and I hope to come back to try a few other items
My girlfriend went through a phase where she was absolutely obsessed with Q and we had to eat here all the time. On the one hand, that's bad, because it's all the way up in the inner Richmond. On the other hand, that's good, because it's really tasty.
Q is mostly comfort food. The two best items on the menu are the mac and cheese (which has tater tots mixed in) and the fried chicken. It's not the best mac and cheese I've had, but it's good, and the addition of tater tots is a welcome one. The fried chicken is also not the best, but still tasty. They also have a pretty good meatloaf.
In fact, "pretty good" is the phrase I'd use to describe everything here. Nothing is quite good enough to blow your socks off, but it's all still really tasty. But the dishes are lacking just a little bit extra to make this a five star place.
My sis hyped this place up too much. We went here last Friday night (it wasn't as packed as we thought it would be) and so we got seated right away.
* Service: fast servers + fast chefs + fast bartenders = awesome!
Now the food:
* Grilled Corn On The Cob with Jalapeno-Lime Butter = sis ordered this and inhaled it. Didn't even bother even tasting it.
* Macaroni and Cheezy with Tater Tots = we had this for appetizers and we loved the tater tots! The mac n cheese was a bit to spicy for me...weird.
* Grilled Harris Ranch Angus Meatloaf on Mashed Potatoes with Country Gravy and Braised Vegetables = boy had that and he said it was dry.
* I got the ribs (I think that's their special) and the sis had a salad (forgot which one).
Overall... food was eh. My sis loves this place but the boy and I didn't. Our food had weird after tastes and it just didn't vibe with us. We were both hungry after b/c we hardly ate our food.
Drinks: the sangria was awesome.
Overall...everything else is good but the food!
Love this spot. Scrambled eggs with corn is my fave. Great servers all around but Clark is the cute one with fast drink service. In my experience, he refuses marriage proposals but takes the tip...
The menu sure had me excited, but the actual food left me quite disappointed.
The crispy fish tacos were bland and sweet, the fried calamari boring with soggy breading. The mac and cheese was okay, but overly acidic tasting, and wasn't really very kid friendly (some guidance in thsi regard would have been nice from the server).
The broccoli-cauliflower asiago gratin was by far the tastiest dish we tried, but even it was still cool to the touch rather than nice and hot (or at least warm).
The 'rare' tuna was more like medium or even medium-well, and when we asked not to have it replaced they did anyway and still charged us.
We also had a small pitcher of sangria, which was okay, but nothing special. I'd get a beer instead next time - if there were going to be a next time.
Um, YUM! I went around 7 on Saturday night with my brother and a friend for dinner and we were seated immediately outside in the beautiful sun!
The waitress was excellent, the sangria was delicious and my mac and cheese with tator tots was fantastic! My brother had the vegan plate and was extremely satisfied as well (he ate it in about 5 seconds).
I had heard good things about this place and was EXTREMELY satisfied with my experience!
I have to come back and give Q the stars it deserves--I celebrated finishing the bar exam here in July and honestly, it really is one of my all-time favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food is consistently delicious, it's not horribly overpriced, and it's so funky and cozy in there. The beer list is impressive, and the sangria never fails. Service is great. Seriously go get the mac n cheese/tots ASAP...just prepare to drive around for half an hour looking for parking first...
