Diamond Parking LotHere on the mainland, you would never expect to find fresh, ono (delicious) food from a lunch truck. In fact, lunch trucks are usually referred to as the "roach coach." In Hawaii, however, people are more laid back, fresh fish is abundant, and there is a lunch truck called Puuwainani that serves kick ass food! Their food is so good they were named Honolulu Magaziine's Best Lunch Wagon in 2005.
As soon as we deplaned and picked up our luggage, we headed for the lunch truck. For about $5/person, you get so much. I ordered the mahi mahi with furikake, brown rice, and side salad. Of course, there was more than enough food for me, but I came close to finishing my meal because the food was so yummy! They also serve a tasty and unforgettable wasabi aioli sauce - their secret sauce, which can't be found anywhere but the lunch truck.
The food is cooked to order and when they're out of their specials, they're out... Hurry up! Run to Puuwainani if you want some ono grindz!
