20 reviews for Putting Edge Fun Center
One of Putting Edge Fun Center's Favorite Reviews What's This?
Whether you're a kid, or an adult that likes to act like one at times, you will love this place. I went last week and was giddy like a five year old when I walked into this all glow in the dark miniature golf delight. They did a great job with all the far out designs and creatures lurking about on the 18 hole course. There's a small snack bar and some fun video games where you can win trinkets. (Hey, I actually scored a 53, can you believe it? Look out Tiger Woods!)
After being rained out of Eli's Cheesecake festival, I was scrambling for something to make our trek to the far western border of the city worthwhile. Things were looking pretty grim with our options being Target, Best Buy and/or Shoe Carnival when I remembered Putting Edge tucked into the strip mall across the street from Harlem Irving Plaza. Fortunately my (grown up) companion was game, so with low expectations off we went.
My first reaction after we ascended the stairs was "This is awesome." My second was total sensory overload - black lights, video games, techno music, glowing golf clubs, weird trippy paintings - a total audiovisual assault. But in a good way. We paid for our games (had I planned in advance I would definitely have looked for one of the coupons that seem to be plentiful online) and hit the course, which despite the rain and cold was pretty empty at 3 pm on a Saturday.
The 18 holes were fairly challenging, though they did lack a lot of the standard mini golf fare - no water, windmills, drawbridges, etc. What they did have were lots and lots of blacklight paint - everything in this place glows: the balls, the clubs, the walls, the hazards, your shirt, etc. etc.
Once we finished up we checked out the arcade and declared it boring and expensive (and yes, no real skee ball! What's up with that?) and decided to leave. We reemerged into the cold drizzle and let our eyes readjust to the non blacklit world. Overall we had a lot more fun that I'd expected. I probably wouldn't make a special trip to Putting Edge, but if you ever find yourself trapped in Dunning/Norridge, it's definitely worth a stop, no matter how old you are.

No matter how much I suck at the game, I still enjoy a round of mini golf. Turn off the lights, add some crazy "I'm a Barbie girl" techno music and psychedelic black light colors and I'm even a worse player. My attention span is too scattered and the possibility of even getting a lucky shot of a hole in one is jinxed here. But it's still fun and I think this is a great place to get your mini swing on in during colder months or when it's just rainy and yucky outside.
The price for the mini golf is a bit on the pricey side, but I had no problem googling "putting edge, coupon" to find a 2 for 1 special. That brought the price of the game under $5 per person. Also the snacks are inexpensively priced such as the $1.99 nachos that include some very spicy jalapenos.
The only thing that really drove me nuts is the poor excuse that they call an arcade. First of all I was disappointed that there was no true skeeball. There were 3 mock skeeball games, those promised to be fun right? They were. But the rest of the games would just eat your tokens, or not give you tickets, even if you won 20 tickets. This type of bull-honky doesn't happen at Haunted Trails. And you can forget about asking a staff member which all consisted of 16 year old girls who seemed more concerned with the eternal question "how high can I tease my hair?".
Despite the arcade section being completely under par we all had a great time. With the coupon the golfing was a good value and a fun mini golf alternative. One more thing, the putt putt place is a bit hard to find off Harlem Avenue, so if you are unfamiliar with the area I suggest entering the mall area from Forest Preserve Drive. There are no signs for the Putting Edge off of Harlem.

This was a great find for mini golfing AND its glow in the dark. Oh yeah!
The setting is great and the game is fun. Challenging holes that keep you quite busy. Only downside is that parents need to keep their children on a leash.
Last time I was there I had kids running around, hitting each other with their putters. Running through the hole I was at and kicking my balls. They were lucky I didn't beat them with their putter. I came here with my 3 friends and lets just say we aren't the greatest mini-golfers so we were taking up a lot of time. I felt bad cause there were a lot of people behind us waiting for us to finish a hole. I felt kinda rushed, and most of the time we just shot it and kicked it in. By the end we weren't even really playing anymore which sucked.
They have a cool arcade area for when you're done and drinks and food. Overall this place is great. Let's just enforce chains for the children, shall we?
The Putting Edge, tis a silly a place! Walking in here is like stepping into a Pink Floyd listening, doobie smokin', stoner's room except they play B96 classics instead of anything remotely stonerish. It's sooo hilarious! I went here with Jennifer D. when I thought she was moving to Las Vegas and we laughed our asses off the entire time. There are TONS of creepy black light paintings and I wish to God I had some pictures because OMG OMG they are sooo crappy and funny. There are knights and toadstools and weird sea creatures and scary frogs and GAH. The course itself is average, nothing crazy or cutting (or did I mean PUTTING HO HO HO) edge. I royally suck at mini golf anyways so it's all hard to me! I like to just launch the shit out of those motherfuckers and hit them as hard as I can until I get told to cut it out by staff.
There are lots of video games too, but I ignored them EXCEPT for FAKE DDR! It was DIAGONAL instead of a cross and it was SO FUCKING HARD BECAUSE OF THIS. I mean, I suck at DDR anyway, but this was like the worst ever. Jennifer and I were like two fat retards dancing the hokey pokey on this thing. What the hell?
I would have loved this place as a kid because it's all in GROOVY BLACK LIGHTS! Even as an adult, four stars for hilarity!

When winter rolls around again you'll be happy to know about this place. This is a great place to go when it's -20 outside and you want to do something moderately active that won't break the bank.
Glow-in-the dark mini-golf is fun and is a great way to laugh and have a good time with friends. The course is fun and not that challenging, but it's mini-golf so that's to be expected.
The arcade is okay but a little expensive for my tastes but nowhere near as pricey as someplace like ESPN zone.
I'd give this place a pass in the summer, but in the Winter or on a rainy day, being indoors is the way to go.

My boy (age 7.75) loved playing here, my girl (age 4) didn't like it, no sir, not one bit. I think it was the combo of never having used a golf-club/noise/blacklights that finally broke her.
The entire place is dark with black-lights and you take either the broken escalator or the elevator to the 2nd floor and are immediately deposited into a cavernous arcade area. Make sure to find a coupon before you go, if you pay full total price I don't think it is worth it. Putt-putt shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks per person. (of course I'm comparing the cost to 1980s rural Indiana costs). There was a coupon pile sitting next the cash register and we grabbed one right up. We had a 10 minute wait then were on the course. Overall, a decent putt-putt course, but only three (of four) of us had fun. The place has a Charles E. Quesa vibe, right down to the smelly pizza and game coupons that can be redeemed for plastic crap behind the glass case.
Maybe a 2nd visit will chill my girl out and we can have the fun.

Is it possible to NOT have fun here?
The kids I babysit for suggested this as something to do over winter break, and I am so glad they turned me on to this place!
Although we did not eat there, they do offer pizza, soda & snacks.
They've got a good-sized arcade.. the usual $.25 token games that spit out tickets that enable you to "buy" the typical cheap toys, etc. in a display case.
The real draw of this place though is the 18 hole, indoor mini golf course that features all sorts of fun glow-in-the-dark images and black lights. The course was challenging enough to keep us all engaged, but not so much so as to defeat those who are coordinationally impaired.
The music they play is kind of on the loud side, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.. especially because the music they play is what I listened to in 7th grade. Rock on, old school B96.
Prices run $8.50/game for adults, $7.50 for a youth (7-12), and $6.00 for a child (5-6).
Just an FYI, the score cards have a 'buy one, get one free' coupon (for adults only) and they are located on the counter in the center of the room.

Hmm, not a great place for young adults. I went here with my friend a couple of months ago, and the first few minutes were fine, until we were bombarded by at least 20 kindergarteners. Supposedly there was a field trip or a birthday party of some sort, and these little kids do not play fair. They ended running all over the course, maniacally swinging their golf clubs, and just causing a major disturbance. I was also peeved when their parents who were supervising them didn't say a word when their kids just took over the course that my friend and I were playing on.
However, if you're lucky and come at a time when this place isn't full, then you might be able to have a good time. The difficulty level is moderate and the glow-in-the-dark theme is different. I had hoped for the courses to be a little more creative though, such as rotating windmills or moving bridges, but there was none of that here.

My girl and I thought it would be fun to try this place out and see what it was like. We both thought it was intended more for the kiddies and we wish we had gone later at night when less of them had been there. We did enjoy the golf course. It was just the right difficulty level. The rest of the place gets a passing grade. Nothing really sticks out as great, but nothing was really bad either. It was fun but not enough to say I am dying to go back. If you have kids 6 years old to 12, I bet they will go crazy for the place though.
I would remember this place a lot more if I wasn't chatting on my sidekick the whole time... ooops.

Glow in the dark mini golf is apparently now considered "the shit" by the little kid who got hit by his mother for saying so. Well I remember when mini golf used to be lame, but OH NO NOT NOW! mini golf just took a crap load of steriods. I actually overheard someone say that minigolf is not sexy. It looked like Paris Hilton...but then again she's in rehab...I think...

I think this place is great. I have never played here, but I really like that the neighborhood kids can do something other than go to the mall next door. They had a really cool soundtrack playing when I went upstairs that wasn;t the typical bubble gum pop and r&b. The next time I'm having a rough time I'm gonna get some friends together and come here. Being silly and having fun is ALWAYS great!

This was a pretty fun place to go mini golfing, especially if it is cold outside and you really got the urge to play. Their prices are reasonable (~$9/person) and their food package deals actually seemed like a deal.

This is one of the better indoor mini golf places I've been to. This place is pretty cool , with wall to wall black and neon , and blacklit to the gills. They have mediocre pizza , decent access to snacks and drinks. There is a smallish arcade , and dining area. Went to a kids party here and saw a bunch of people ranging from 5 to 40 here , it is pretty trippy. If you want to play golf in low light , aiming for the florescent yellow hole past the glowing obstacles , and how can you not , this is the place for you.

This is fun to do one time but not more than that. There's arcade in the front for kids and a psychedelic black lit course to play golf on. I feel like I should be on drugs every time I go. The course is a tad difficult and the trippy paintings are distracting. The HIP across the mall gives out passes all the time so keep your eyes open if you want to play for free.

Really fun! I went with few of my friends and it was a blast. When I heard that it was in glow in the dark, I thought that it would so dark you couldn't seen other then the glow. Of course I was wrong.....Really cool and fun place for anyone for any age. Can get boring though if you are there way too long.
I think that puttin edge is suitable mostly for kids who are 10 and under. But can be still fun for the teens and above. One thing that I had is that it's WAY too pricey for mini golfing. They do have an aracade which is cool, but it's seperate from what you pay for the mini golf. For the price that I payed, I should of gotten free arcade time!
I took my boy to the Hoffman Estates one. It was pretty fun, I mean hell, who doesn't like mini-golf with black lights and amazing colors? Back in my younger days, this would have been a good place to go if you were completely baked! LOL.

An unusual place to play mini golf but it was lots of fun. I didn't get to play the arcade games. But the golfing was cool. Your clothes glow in the dark when you walk around in there because of all the black lights that illuminate the place. It gets very crowded in there especially on a weekend evening when you are probably waiting for a table at LongHorn steakhouse. This is where people probably go and have some fun.
Fun place if you want to feel like you're in jr. high again. Lots of arcade games along with the putt putt. The putt putt is glow in the dark, so it's fun for something different. I believe that it cost less than $15 for both of us to play.
