I was born & raised in Vermont; it's places like this that make me miss it so dearly. The building the store is in was originally a mill from the 1700s. In the 1840s it was converted to a store and has been operating continuously ever since.
They have a butcher counter with fantastic cuts of meat & freshly ground hamburger (eat your heart out Shaws!). I even saw some seafood in there. There is a great selection of local microbrews and a wall of wine.
They also carry tons of local Vermont products like cheese, maple syrup, Ben & Jerry's, salsa, candles, soap, soda, juices & so much more.
In the back there is a cafe where they serve sandwiches, hot entrees, coffee & tea and various pastries.
There is a toy department & video store as well (is there anything they don't have!!!).
If you are ever anywhere near Putney, please stop in and check this place out. It's conviently located right off Interstate 91 on Rt. 5.
