Purple Awning Pastries has a reputation as the high end bakery in the area. It did not disappoint. My wife needed a cake for a work event and selected their Chocolate Bourbon Mousse. She described it as both "wonderful" and "very rich." Needless to say, it was a massive hit amongst her co-workers. While I had the unfortunate luck of missing out on this cake eating extravaganza, I had the pleasure of sampling a slice of Rasberry Mousse. It was delicious.
The prices are on the high end, but completely worth it. Besides, its always worth a little extra to support your local bakery. The bakery itself is well designed, with two display units for their cakes/bread/pastries. They had coffee available, as well as 3-4 tables for on-site eating. Props to the kid who was handling the cash register. When he brought out our boxed cake, he took special care to open it up and show the cake off to us as if it was a piece of art. And indeed it was.

Unfortunately they closed last year. :( they had great soups and pastries.

I have visited Purple Awning Pastries on many occasions and it never disappoints. The bakery itself is kept very clean and the staff is very friendly and attentive. They have 4-5 tables for people who just can't wait to eat their goodies at home. They also serve homemade wraps and soups daily which are also great. Like a slice of bread with your soup? Purple Awning bakes a different type of bread everyday! My recommendations include the danishes, muffin-tops (a la Seinfeld) and the Death by Chocolate cookies are excellent! Oh yea, don't forget about the huge variety of cakes at Purple Awning. Try the carrot cake - you won't be disappointed!
