i come here for the beautiful selection of fabric, not yarn, although you can get some nice yarn as well. months ago, i was in new york, and visited their store. although this place is an easy to miss warehouse/office space and not as pretty as the shop, it rivals any local or online fabric shop save britex in san francisco. of course, i couldn't possibly compare it to the mecca of fabric stores. still, they have lots of impossible to find elsewhere japanese fabric as well as decorator-weight fabrics with contemporary designs, and it's not as overwhelming. they have amy butler, joel newberry, anna maria horner, to name a few.

there's a website--http://www.purlsoho.co... a blog--http://www.purlbee.com... free patterns (both knitting & sewing). the fabric is not cheap, but this is no chain craft store.

For you yarn and fabric addicts, it's the warehouse for PurlSoho the website. The company has two stores in New York but none in California, but their warehouse is located here so it gets a bit confusing. Though it is a warehouse, you are free to drop by Tues-Fri from 9-4.

You can check out the website to see their selection and quantity amounts before you go. Since it is a warehouse the prices aren't labeled except for a few. That's why I suggest browsing the site before you go. The staff is friendly and willing to help you out amid packaging orders. The yarns are to your right and fabrics on the left. It is fairly organized by brand. They are known for their huge selection of Manos del Uruguay and unique Japanese fabrics. There isn't much to say because everything on their site is at the warehouse.

I would like to give them more stars, but their yarn selection isn't the biggest compared to other yarn shops.

I was soooo tired of Joann's fabrics for the over 60 set.  I wanted a funky and fun cotton for a car seat cover I'm about to attempt for my daughter.  I wanted to like the big box fabric store and their 40% off coupons, but I couldn't bring myself to put all that work into something  I didn't like.

I'd resigned myself to ordering online and then I search Yelp for "fabrics."

Voila!

I was seriously considering ordering from Purl and their warehouse didn't disappoint.  While they didn't have enough yardage of the fishies my daughter pointed at, I got something lovely and funky.

Since my yarn shop in Ladera Ranch closed, I've needed a source for fine yarns so I expect I'll sampling that side of the warehouse come autumn.

Yay for Purl West!
