I have to say, I'm not one who splurges on massages. Maybe I should, because after my massage here, I feel so, what's the word....relaxed!?
I came here because I saw a special "Deal of the Day" on Fox news for $39 for an HOUR massage!!! WTF!? You'd have to be crazy NOT to try this place out. You can't find a good rub down for that cash in this city!
Jennifer was my massage therapist, and she was super nice, and knew where my sore spots were. I felt so relaxed and at peace during the massage,it was quite blissful!
I'll be scheduling another appointment for next month! :-)
"Just what the doctor ordered!"
I mean, for real. My doc said massages might help my migraines...and WHO am I to argue with that Rx? I am not. I followed orders and booked one of the deals with Pure Nirvana. I'm such a good patient!
$60 for an hour!? $79 for 90 minutes!? (Monday-Thursday, all day).
I opted for the hour long treat...I mean, "treatment." Easily booked for a Tuesday afternoon, parked easily on a side street (or meters aplenty), very close to the Southport Brown stop.
I walked in from a hot, sweaty day...into a coooooooool, clean, brand spanking new building. Warmly greeted. Sat for about 2 minutes, then retrieved by Martina, and taken back to a crisp, cool room. Ahhhhh, AC. Just the right temp to combat the humidity outside, but make my muscles turn all "jello-esque."
Admittedly I was a bit worried about Martina. She was slight in stature, and her handshake was "dainty." I thought "oh no, I need a shitkicker to beat the tense and stress right out of me." Fortunately, my first impression was wrong...and Martina was MORE than adequate. Shitkicker on the inside with some skillz to match!
Perks:
-No flipflops, robes or rainshowers. I can do without these extras, I just want a good, old fashioned rub down.
-Massage began promptly at 3pm, and ended at 4pm. No skimping, it went the entire 60 minutes.
-Clean, spacious rooms with adequate room to move.
-Minimal lotions and oils, so I didn't leave feeling like I needed to shower.
-Excellent technique, pressure, etc. I felt relaxed, yet that she was "challenging" my demonic deltoids. Points for Martina!
-No talking! My lord, I hate when massage therapists talk through the whole thing, and Martina was quiet as a church mouse, but stealthy like a ninja. NInja massage therapist. Go Martina!
- initial evaluation was brief, yet she paid attention. Much time was devoted to head/scalp/neck/shoulders/face. (migraine territory). Yay!
I left feeling noodle-y, relaxed, and from start to finish the experience was pleasurable, yet therapeutic at the same time. For $75 ($15 tip), I got what I paid for, plus some. Would def return to Martina (obviously).
Treat(ment) yourself. Life is hard, lay down and get rubbed...a buck a minute! ;)
I took adavantage of their $109 60 minute massage and facial special then opted for a bikini waxing too. This is a deal too good to pass up!
My massage therapist was good but I'm going to stick to my gym massage therapists who know how to work out the knots. I did tell the massage therapist to please go ahead and use more pressure but thought it was still a little too mild for my taste (I'm training for a half marathon and workout daily).
Dana, the lady who performed my wax & facial was great - facial was 5 stars all the way and let's just say while the waxing was good - I was in pain for about 2 days afterwards. I would rather go somewhere that doesn't use the strips but uses the fast drying wax.. She did put me at ease and made my visit as pleasant as possible considering waxing just plain old hurts!
Clean, friendly place and prices that you can't beat!!!
I got an amazing bikini wax from Dayna at Pure NIrvana Spa. She was very thorough (always a good thing in a wax), and seemed to actually care that it looked good when she was done. Big thumbs up. Plus, the weekday discount doesnt hurt. I will definitely be going back.
I had some girlfriends visiting this past weekend and they wanted to get massaged. Trusty Yelp told me that Pure Nirvana had a heck of a deal going on. 90 minutes for $79! You cant beat that, kids.
I called to book the appointments for them and the receptionist was very accommodating. I decided to book a wax for myself as they were also running a 15% off special.
I cannot speak for the massages, although both of my friends were pretty limp when they came out so it must have been good. As for my wax, its a wax, so you know, ouch. But the lady was very sweet and thorough. My only gripe is that the door to the room opens right up to the receptionist, who happened to be male. He may have gotten a show when she opened the door to come in and leave. So, $29 for a detailed wax...cheap!
The space seemed very relaxing and clean. I will be back for sure, you just cant beat those prices.
You can't beat this deal. Mon - Thur 15% off all waxing and massage services. Staff is so friendly and accommodating. As usual I was running late, and they understood. Space is very calming and Zen-like. Which I totally appreciate when I'm getting waxed, (down there) My waxer was thorough and fast. Which is important, considering. And they carry Dermalogica products.
For our 5th wedding anniversary, I bought myself and my wife a couples massage. The massages -- which I scheduled several weeks in advance -- were for two female masseuses. When we got there, they said they only had one female and one male. Reluctantly I agreed.
Even though the appointment was for 3:30pm, my massage didn't begin until 3:40pm and my wife's not until 3:45pm, which was fine (although we arrived at 3:20pm) What WASN'T fine was that they both ended at 4:30pm even though they were to be ONE-HOUR massages. When they were completed, I asked the receptionist (just to make sure) if they were 50-minute or 60-minute massages and she assured me they were 60-minute massages which, of course, they were NOT. Funny, I PAID for hour massages.
So, I e-mailed Pure Nirvana not to complain but more to alert them of this time issue. I wasn't asking for a refund or even an apology but an acknowledgement. I got NO RESPONSE. They screwed me out out 17% of my massage my wife out of 25% of her massage and they couldn't even respond to my e-mail?
There are, what, 18,000 places to get a massage in Chicago. I think I'll be choosing one of them next time.
I wanted to find a place that was both convenient and reasonably priced and this place definitely fullfilled both criteria. It is located right off the brown line so it was easily accessible after work in the loop. And $60 for an hour????? I hardly doubt you can find another place with that promotion. I was warmly greeted by the receptionist and she told me that my therapist would be with me shortly. Based on past experiences at other places, I expected to wait between 10-15 minutes, but was surprisingly shocked when my therapist greeted me within 5 minutes of checking in. I had great tension around my upper back and she was able to relieve all of it and walked out relaxed and refreshed. One of the better massages that I've had and I will definitely return here again.
This place was great!!! I have been to different places for massages and I recommend this place. The staff was very polite, and welcoming. The massage was by far one of the best ones I have ever recieved.
This time I had an awful massage. I different person this time and it really seemed like they had no training. Not only did it not help the areas I asked her to work on, but it was not enjoyable or relaxing. I guess make sure if you find a good person to request them every time.

I've been twice for bikini waxes and was very pleased both times. They did a very thorough job. It's a very nice spa, and if you go in the middle of the week they have nice discounts.
Both times I went I had no trouble calling and making a same-day appointment. I'll definitely be going back, and feel no need to try another spa.
Went here last night for the $55/60 minute massage special. They called me around 5:15 to let me know that they were running a bit behind schedule, which I appreciated - let me get a few more minutes of Christmas shopping in before heading over to the spa.
My massage therapist was Courtney and she did a great job working out the knots in my shoulders and lower back. I know some people complained about the therapy rooms being too cold, but mine was toasty warm and I felt very comfortable during the massage. I did think it was a little odd that there didn't seem to be a waiting room besides the one in front and that they didn't offer beverages or anything before the treatment (though I did get water afterward), and it would have been nice to have a robe to change into - but for the price, I think these details can be overlooked.
Overall a good deal and I think I'll be back again.
I went here over the weekend with my friends for the $99 spa deal (per the other posts-it's the hr massage and their signature facial.) Here is the lowdown:
1. The front desk staff was VERY nice and friendly.
2. The place is really dark...trying to find your way to the massage room was strange.
3. The rooms were cold. (I asked for another blanket which was fine, but it was still chilly.
4. I think my massage therapist's name was Caroline and she was good. I like a lot of pressure and she responded well and listened when i told her my problem areas.
5. The facial was in a word...rough. It seemed like it was a quest to prove super efficiency. She was very no nonsense and had a rough touch.
Although the five points may make you wonder why I gave Pure Nirvana 4 stars, but all in all, the value was great. My face still feels super soft and is not irritated (even post extractions!) Also the tension in my shoulders has noticeably gone down.
I came here a few months ago for their $99 facial/massage spa package -- it's now $109, just so you know. I think it was well worth it. I got the massage first and the therapist, Eric, did a great job with the knots in my shoulders and back. Sometimes the pressure was too much, but once I asked him to ease up, he did. I really felt a difference the next day. The facial was next. The aesthetician took her time and made me feel very relaxed. She gave me an eyebrow wax, as well. I will be back because you can't beat a deal like this. Definitely worth it!
Reason I would go back: $99 for a full hour massage and a full hour facial. I always have sale goggles on so I will forgive some of the things that I didn't like and return. For starters I will sort of agree with Alexis L. regarding the massage. It wasn't as relaxing and I didnt feel totally worked out afterward and I didn't fall asleep during it which is the typical yardstick to decide how relaxed I was. But it was about 50% less than I normally pay so can't complain too much.
As for facial same thing. My skin looks nice and fresh but I was not relaxed or pampered feeling. The aesthetitician did a great job, but was a bit rougher and called me Oriental. LOL.
One other weird thing was that they didn't have robes and slippers so between services we changed back into our clothes, then changed out again. But again, sale goggles! The receptionist was lovely and fed the meter for my friends and I while we were getting our services. She was super sweet.
Sorry Carol J, but I passionately use the word "Meh" to describe the massages I've received here. A few months ago I was drawn in by the advertised $49 hour long massage available all day Monday-Thursday. I was able to book a same day appointment, but due to getting held up at the last minute at work I arrived about 10 minutes late. Because I was the last appointment, I was told they could only do a 30 minute session for $30. I would have paid the additional $19 for 50 minutes, but they didn't offer the option and I opted not to be difficult.
My major conflict comes with the massage I received. Most massages I've received elsewhere have been an hour of intense sex-like euphoria with a feeling of general well being that lasts a few days. After this particular massage, I did feel as if the knots in my back and shoulders had been rubbed out but the process of removal was far from euphoric. To keep the same analogy going, it was like really bad sex in that I just laid there wondering why it didn't feel very good despite all my helpful hints and direction. He just never seemed to have a good rhythm going and it seemed like he was winging things at times. To his credit, he did remove a bit of tension from my neck.
A few weeks ago I decided to treat my boyfriend to a couple's massage here with the hopes of getting two new massage therapists. We even came up with a signal for him to make a last minute request for a female if I saw that his therapist was mine from before. Luckily, when we arrived I saw that the two therapists were different and I was anxious to once again feel that magical massage high. Once again I was let down. Just as before, the ambiance was wonderful and I did leave feeling a bit more relaxed. However, the majority of my hour was spent thinking that the various maneuvers and tricks he tried didn't do anything for me. Literally, some of the things felt as intense as a pat on the back. When asked afterward, my boyfriend said that he enjoyed his massage, but also felt it was a bit fragmented.
If the purpose of a massage was only to remove knots, kinks, and tension, than Pure Nirvana offers an awesome weekday deal. However, those like me who go in expecting the "ohh ahhh... that feels amazing" feeling may be slightly disappointed. There may be some amazing therapists on staff, but I don't see myself paying $50 a pop until I find one. The staff is friendly and the décor attractive; but there are many other better places to get a better rubdown.
I checked out Pure Nirvana Spa over the weekend to take advantage of the $99 spa deal (1 hr massage and Pure Nirvana Facial). The star amongst the services was definitely the facial.
The staff were very friendly and the individual who did my facial even included a complimentary eye brow wax (she did a great job, by the way).
The massage was probably more a three-star service. The masseuse had a difficult time staying consistent with pressure and the massage room was icy cold (not conducive for relaxation!) However, the package was a good deal, so I would consider going back.
It's worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood!
I loved the massage I received here! I made an appointment about a week before for myself and a friend. When we got there, the masseuses came out right on schedule to introduce themselves. The guy was very knowledgeable and even gave me some tips to keep my back from aching after every time I weight lift. He asked me where I would like him to focus, and he spent a good amount of time on it. The pressure was a tad painful at some points, but that's what I was looking for, and when I left an hour later, my lower back felt wonderful. The atmosphere and service is terrific. My friend said she enjoyed hers as well. And though this is only the 2nd professional massage I've ever had, I felt it ranks right up there with the other places for its price range ($49 for 1 hour).
I will definitely return!! And maybe try some of their other services as well.
A friend of mine told me about the grand opening specials at Pure Nirvana Spa, so I decided to check it out - I can't pass up a half price facial! Since they've just opened, I was a little hesitant, but I figured why not.
Overall, a it was a very good experience. In addition to the facial, I also got a massage. Both the people I saw were clearly experienced, and asked a lot of questions before getting started. The rooms I was in were small, but very nicely put together, and definitely had the spa "feel" - soothing dark colors, candles, etc.
The waiting area is a little small, but they seem to (so far) stay pretty on track with appointments, so you don't have to wait there for long.
I have to give this place 4 stars for having such great deals! You can't beat $99 for 1 hour massage/1hour facial. My facial was great, they use Dermaoligica products. I didn't love my massage, it wasn't very relaxing. She had me do a lot of breathing as she pressed very hard on my back. My face was swollen afterwards, which I wasn't very happy about. I can't give less than 4 stars seeing it really wasn't her fault. My other complaint was they have glade plug-ins in the rooms, they were slightly over powering.
I've been to Pure Nirvana a few times for the massage/ facial combo. It is absolutely fantastic and totally worth the money! Anamelie is wonderful at the facials and does a very thorough job. She is good about evaluating your skin type, before making recommendations. Staff are very friendly and courteous about accomodating me a little early as well.
So happy about their combo package in these tough economic times!
Just got back from a couples massage- Very clean, warm, inviting and all around comfortable atmosphere. My boyfriend and I were like zombies after our massages- Very relaxed and sleepy. Ill definitely e back for more-- Especially since they have a $99 facial/massage special! Ask for Eric if you schedule a massage appointment. :)
Received the mailer from Coupon Head (http://CouponHead.com), and was crazy thinking that they were giving away an hour massage for only $49 dollars which is extremely low for a Chicago "spa". Average is usually priced $100 an hour. I had to check it out, and was pleasantly surprised.
Reception:
I didn't not receive a confirmation call the day before, but I called in myself to confirm the appointment same day. The front desk kept calling me "Darren" which is funny as I even spelled my name for them just to get it right when I booked the appointment. I asked for more time when I arrived and they were very welcome to accommodate me. No beverages were offered during my wait, tea, coffee, water, nothing!
Location:
The location is easy to find, and well suited for a studio. The waiting area is modest, and comfortable. Lighting in the spa is subdued with wall sconces, also very warm and inviting. I want to think I remember the hint of marble walls, but now I'm"m not sure. Felt very luxury! No changing areas, lockers, or showers, but I suppose for the cost one would expect as much, but these things differentiate spas from studios.
Therapist:
Eric Begley from his Biznik profile seems to have around 8-9 years experience, and shows this well with a flowing touch; firm, skilled, and moving to the music. Eric was very accommodating to my desires for the massage, relaxing detailed but not pointed, bodywork. As the lighting in the spa area was very subdued the only lighting in the room came from two spot lights, and Eric was quickly able to retrieve a towel to place on my eyes to block out the piercing light. Maybe a small glowing lamp can remedy this tiny but important detail. A couple minor thoughts on improvement for the massage... would be to meter time less on the back saving time for other areas. The detailed reflexology work on feet was amazing, but I wish the detail would follow when working on hands. Would have liked more time on hands, knees, and neck (neck was great work, but not very long). The ending was a bit abrupt, and could be a great way to make sure the massage was satisfactory. Completely missed chest, abdominals, and adductors. As Eric is skilled and inviting, it would have been nice to receive a welcome back, but none was offered, not even from the receptionist.
I will definitely be back, but I think I would rather pay more to get a better overall service experience. Thank you Pure Nirvana Spa for a relaxing afternoon.
