Really good burgers and the steak cut fries are done just right. Decor inside is cool and there were a lot of people hanging out. About $11 for the burger I ordered but it was worth it. Stacked with the condiments such as veggies, avocado, bacon, and cheddar.
One summer evening, I finally tried Pudleys. It is more of a restaurant than a bar, very casual, sports themed with parking in the back.
Good selection of beers on tap.
Fairly extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches etc.
Roomy, but gets pretty warm indoors.
Small patio in back that is perfect for escaping the heat. (No server for this patio, so you are on your own.)
Beers are moderately priced, burgers are about $9 and up with fries. I ordered a blue cheese burger and it was well-cooked, pretty tasty, but the blue cheese was a little dried out and not of the highest quality. The fries were pretty darn good - crispy and I suspect twice fried but in a good way. Big glass of hefeweizen only cost me $5. Nice.
Crowd is diverse, singles, families, etc.
Bottom line: nice local hangout with decent food and cheap beers.

Met a former co-worker here who is now working in San Carlos and had been wanting to try the burger here for quite some time - esp. after a Yelp Talk thread had been talking this place up.
Indeed, a huge solid burger. I had the #46, jack cheese & guacamole. Very nice, not too greasy, and great crispy steak fries. Service here is great, very proactive on the refills and getting us more napkins and ketchup. Does an incredible lunch business during the week and I'm told the nights are even more packed.
Great place to watch sports - lots of good beers on tap including some local California brewers (Stone Brewing from San Diego...yeeeah). My bud had a chicken sandwich...that thing may have been 10oz, it was HUGE. No dinner for him!
Other than the 50:1 Guy-Girl ratio today I had a great time and really good food. $7.95 for a burger plus drink was right on the money, if a little pricey but I enjoyed it enough not to think twice.
Damn good burgers and fries (thick cut). The fries can get soggy if you do take-out, so it's best to eat there. Comfort food, stick to your ribs kind of food. Very filling.
They don't have some fancy options (I forget which ones now) but this is a stand-out place that most meat-eaters love.

this place is an awesome sports bar. The walls are covered in sports memorbilia and as a steelers fan it was even better. THe food and drinks were reasonably priced and I was happy with the number of t.v.'s, they even had one outside in the back patio. This is the place to be for sporting events and is much less crowded and less expensive than places like sneakers and old pro.

Cool bar! I've been looking for a run down, hole in the wall, comfortable, non-pretentious bar since I've moved out here (and yes, all the descriptions above are complements). Great beer selection, cold and outstanding prices. The food was good, for bar food. But the atmosphere is what sold me. Great selection of sports on a lot of TV's. Sports decor...knowledgeable sports crowd. They had it all. Wish it wasn't so far away, though. Open one in Mountain View!
The burger and beer selection was good, and it was nice to come here after helping my bf move all day. Nice to finish up with a big burger, fries and beer after all that work!
The setting is actually pretty grungy. Old faded sports and movie memorabilia and questionable cleanliness. But it's a sports bar, what did I expect?
I'll probably be back - my bf likes the place.
Pudley's is a sports bar usually filled with a lot of locals and little league teams. They're usually only rowdy about any one of the 6 or so games on at a time on TV. Or some old dude is shouting "hey Harry Potter" to my boyfriend. Just F.Y.I., he doesn't look like Harry Potter. But as soon as you walk in, you'd kind of expect that. It goes along with the jailbait looking cashers...
We usually make sure to stop here if we're on the Peninsula for some reason. He usually gets the Gold Mine special (giant burger, lots of steak fries and a large beer for about $9) and I get either the mushroom jack burger or the one with guac and jack. Both are really good. I love Flippers in Hayes Valley and I'd say it's a tie.
Oh, their buffalo wings are really good and super messy too. As they should be.
Went here a few weeks back and completely neglected to review it! Your typical sports bar, except that it was really kid friendly. There were several families here the night we came. In fact, the bartenders even gave the kids free popcorn!
A little spendy for burgers and fries of their caliber (The Counter is worth the extra dough) but they were definitely generous portions, I couldn't even come close to finishing my massive burger. Hubster finished his, but regretted it (and the jalapenos) a few hours later. I didn't care for their fries much, too big and soft (that's what she said) for my taste. The garlic fries were *loaded* with garlic, woo!
I'd probably go back to catch a game or something like that, lots of teevees to choose from.

Frickin outstanding! love the burgers. My favorite is actually the turkey burger with swiss cheese, and i usually get it with beer battered onion rings which are mighty tasty. Recently me and my friend Jenny went to have dinner there. I had the turkey burger and she had the BBQ chicken Burger, everything was good except she didn't like the fries too much and kept picking at my onion rings instead, HEY! lay off my onions rings, MINE! ALL MINE!! Her burger was awesome, a juicy, HUGE mess, ending up all over her face and dripping down her arm masterpiece. it was funny as hell watching her try to consume it. she managed to eat the whole damn thing and i think she must of used a zillion napkins in the process. I don't know how she did it considering she's only 115lbs and a tiny little thing. I manage to pry it away from her and get a bite, i must say it was pretty damn good. think I'll have it next time and pass on the turkey. Cool bar, friendly staff. we'll be back!

3.5 stars.
A very sports bar environment which I wished I could've drank here, but unfortunately I had to work.
Great burgers here....very large patties and juicy, but it was missing texture. The burger should have been thicker instead of flatter and thinner. It was good enough for me to return and try again with a beer of course!

This place has super juicy, super big, super flavorful burgers. SOOO good. Their turkey burger is soooo flavorful too. Incredibly juicy although I'm sure it's not the way to go if you're trying to cut calories but if your at a burger joint, what are you doin tryin to cut calories? I really liked their jalapeno poppers. First time I ever tried them and they inspired me to make my own which didn't turn out as good. Great place to grab a burger and I love the atmosphere too. Screams tavern, hence the name I guess.
I thought the price was pretty steep for just an average cheeseburger. $11.15 total for a cheeseburger fries and a coke. Lots of televisions and a huge selection of beer make it a great place to watch a game.
The burger was as equally uninspiring as this review.

I really like their high class, juicy burgers (fries are usually done better elsewhere, although the last time I was there they were really good actually) and the English woman behind the counter is really friendly, too. They have a good selection of beer on tap, the usual microbrew suspects and a few British ones as well (hey, any Bay Area bar that has Boddingtons on tap scores in my book).
This place has a lot of regulars that maybe spend too much time there, but they are quite friendly and add to the atmosphere. The place has a $1 off pints deal on Wednesdays, when the place fills up.
What amazes me is that they're almost always lights-out closed by 9:00PM. Even on the Peninsula, I mean, yees, come on. A bar that closes at 9:00PM? Give me a break.
Best burger joint in the bay area. The food is fantastic and the beer is cheap and cold. Can you get a better combo? This is a great place to go for happy hour on Friday or when you need a cold one and a great cheeseburger. The wings, fries and onion rings are pretty good as well. You can take the kids and still have an adult conversation while the kids are playing in the game room. Good place to watch a game. Definitely some interesting characters in there at times. Pudley's is a San Carlos gem.
probably one of the better burgers ive ever had.. better than mo's in the city. they're fries are delicious and their burgers are huge, juicy and hard to eat.. i had to cut my burger in half to attack it.. the jalapeno poppers tasted like the frozen kind..so nothing special there. yum! would definitely go back ...unfortunately i don't work in san carlos anymore but i wouldnt mind driving down there to eat at pudleys

Revised Review -
Caution, do not write a review about this place unless you intend on giving 4 or 5 stars, he will 86 you. I have been going here for years, since it was brew town. I suggested to him several times to change the draft system so the quality beers wouldn't pour flat anymore, he didn't change anything. I wrote a review, hoping to get through to him, and was kicked out for good. Plenty of places to go for a burger, including Sneakers, Jersey Joes and Marvin Gardens, where the owners still believe in customer service, and the beer actually has head.
Original review -
other than lindsay the greatest bar tender in the bay, i don't see many reasons to go there. this place use to be a brewpub, and now they only have 2 local beers. Devils canyon, Bear republic and several others seem to have been looked over by the owner, who refuses to accept that his beer is flat. the food is good, but a little over priced. the bar has a sports bar/ pub atmosphere to it, which is nice. The staff and service (if you can call walk up counter service, service) is good. the wine selection is reasonably priced, and beer selection consistently getting worse. what type of brew pub puts coors, coors light, MGD, miller light, bud and bud light on tap, and ignores the locals???

One thing I love about where I live is the close proximity to some great places to get a burger and a beer. One of the greatest in my book is Pudley's - this place is so chill and relaxed it's like a breath of fresh air every time I get that first wonderful beer. So many awesome things to eat and snack on - great beer selection with rotating guests. Never had a bad meal or a bad moment here. Lauren is the best!
This is a solid place to grab a good burger and a micro-brew (lots of choice) -- the food is good pub fare. The TVs are old and outdated and like 10 different sizes but there are enough of them to get the job done -- wish the bar was a bit bigger.
The crowd here seems to have a good amount of very respectable regulars who are usually very friendly. Yes, Lindsey is a really good bartender as others have mentioned on this post. Don't come here looking to hunker down too late though. Most of the time the bartenders try to get you out before 9pm and boy do they like to get out of there when the clock strikes 9 (weekdays).
I do also feel that besides Lindsey, the other bartenders are just watching the clock praying for 9pm to arrive as soon as possible. A far cry from my NYC pubs where the bartender would pour you a free shot of Jameson to get you to stay a lil bit longer and take off your coat (tear runs down cheek).
PINBALL Alert!!!
Pudley's has:
REVENGE From MARS! (see: http://www.ipdb.org/ma... )
Fun game. Good shape, although it needs to be wiped down from all the burger grease from all the customers manhandling this box.
$.50 per game.
Cool bar and grill. I want to come back for the burgers.
pix laters...

I've had pretty much shit luck trying to replace my old burger n' beer haunt in north carolina since moving here.
Of all the places I've attempted to recristen as the new haunt, this one comes the closest. The burgers are taste good and are well priced. The same can be said of the decent beer selection. Then again, any place with more than two English ales on the tap is alright by me. These as well aren't priced badly. The ordering system can be a bit screwy, though.
The only drawback really here are the fries. They aren't bad, but big ol' think steak fries could use some course salt on top to make them better.
As for the decor, well, the place I used to go for this food combination had a full size jon wayne cutout and a bear's head, so I ain't picky.
Pudley's is a great burgers and beers joint on El Camino between Cherry and Olive Street. Watch out for the big blue sign because it's easy to miss it.
The burgers are generally $6-8 each and include a side of fries. I had the Gold Mine special, which includes a burger on a hoagie roll, fries and a giant beer of your choice for $10.25 ($11.10 including tax). Half of the hoagie is the size of a regular burger at most places, so a full one can easily feed even the hungriest people for only $11.10.
**If you order the Gold Mine with a beer, take the stub punched with a 'b' to the bartender for your beer.**
My one complaint is that the fries aren't very good. Yeah, I ate them, but they had no salt or seasoning whatsoever. I understand this can be a good thing if you have hypertension or high blood pressure, but if that's the case, you shouldn't be eating junk in the first place!
In the front area, there's a bar, and off to the side is a billiards table. There's a small game room with 3-4 arcade machines, as well as a pinball machine, Pac-Man, and different candy dispensing machines next to the back entrance.
------------
I gave Pudley's four stars, but just removed one because it gave me serious indigestion that lasted for hours.

Sometimes you just want a very good burger and a very good beer....
When you get that primal craving for some seriously well-cooked, dead grass-grazer and a cold fermented brew to wash it down then this is the place to come.
Pudley's will never win any awards for their decorating sense, but they win my award for a damn good burger, fries and a beer. And not just that lousy domestic piss-water the average, brain-dead, taste-challenged sap is content to swill - good beer, such as Spaten, Fat Tire, Guinness, etc.
For a fine accompaniment to your brewery selection they have a wide menu of burger styles from $6 to $9 and you can get a pitcher of (good) beer for under $14. You really can't go wrong with any burger choice and they are "serious"-sized, not the mini-burgers you will find at McDonald's, Jack-In-The-Box or even Wendy's.
The place looses a couple points with me for a) the damn little kids running around loose (is this legal in a bar/burger joint?) sometimes and b) the half-hearted attempt to be a sports bar. They could remove a couple pieces of the larger, phony sports memorabilia and Applebee's-esque decorations to make room for a couple more monitors for the events playing on TV's across the room. This would win a lot of points with patrons and probably keep people packed in longer.
Overall this is a good joint to frequent, the bartenders are always friendly (no easy task for any bartender) and we always enjoy the food. They are very good at what they serve and don't try to be all things for all people. Give them a try.
Definitely a solid burger. We hadn't found a good burger joint yet in the area so the bar is initially set. The Parmesan garlic fries to start are pretty darn powerful. The semi steak cur fries aren't my favorite but I can still taste the garlic 5 hours post lunch. I got the bacon cheddar burger and it came out with a tasty soft bun and all the fix-ins. The patty was too thin to be a correct medium rare but it was still pretty juicy. I noticed that they have Guinness on tap amongst many other beers and the place is chock full of random pix and items on the wall. Almost everyone seemed like a regular except for us and I can imagine the after work/evening drinking seen to be lively. The staff were all pretty friendly and I noticed they had a few chicken wings selections which Ill have to return and supplement my next burger with.

Pretty good experience for the first time. Heard about the great burgers this place has to offer, but decided to go with the grilled chicken sandwich instead. Let me tell you, it wasn't disappointing at all. Usually places give you a grilled chicken the size of a slice of cheese, however, this place gave a portion 2 times that! Well worth the money, only drawback was not enough tv's and super crowded at lunch. Can't knock a place that gets a lot of customers. Will be back again for a sandwich and pitcher.

Definately the best place for burgers! They have the best hot wings in the bay area...great beers on tap, only thing is it can get pretty packed.

A bit pricey ($13 including tip and soda), but worth it for the flavor. I had the best teriyaki beef burger with mushrooms, and swiss cheese. Bun was absolutely soft, and it just soaked the teriyaki sauce in... Juiciness all over. Fries were crunchy and tasty. I enjoyed every bite of it. If only I could order a pint of beer with it, but I visited during my lunch break from work.. and since I turn red in the face.. it wouldnt fly at work. Friendly service too.
Pudley's is one of my all time favorite places to eat. Especially on Wed. 24oz beer for $3, you can't beat it. A large amount of beers on Tap, the bartender is Friendly and makes you feel apart of the pudley's family. The burgers are a lil pricey but well worth it. The are large and packed with whatever you order with it! Nothing beats their onion rings. I have had alot of onion rings in my life and this place is by far the best!!! Great for Families or just watch the game

Well I didnt eat here, I was going to but I drove by with my mom and saw a herd of scary looking biker guys hanging out in front of the place so we went somewhere else. :\
I thought it had a better burger than Marvin Garden's did, but the location/outdoor area is not as nice. Again, a production-line patty, but cooked medium instead of well, which is great. The Gold Miner special (or whatever it was) is a burger and a 23 oz beer...sounded good! I'm not a big fan of big, fat steak fries, but these were okay.
Very good burger! I got the cheddar and mushroom burger and it was perfect - not "slidey" with all the stuff sliding out of the sides making a mess:-) A lot of different options on burgers and sides and the parmesan garlic fries were delish. Prices were totally reasonable for the amount of food you get (lots.)
I love football so I loved that they had ESPN on all of the TVs there since it is NFL Draft Weekend! Would be fun to watch a game there as long as they turned up the volume a lot (street noise since right on EL Camino.)
And the bathroom was big and clean (with plenty of TP, soap & handtowels) - nice to see in a bar :-)
I would definitely go back.
Awesome burger joint, great for the family and the friends, or just a cheap, fun date ;) burgers are awesome here. The only thing that irked me was the burger buns were a bit too soggy :( I got the burger with guacamole, bacon, somethin else and something else, I didnt think it was worth it. BUT the boyfriend had a teriyaki burger and that was GOOOOD

OK place, the food is pretty good. I had the bleu cheese burger, hubby had the Gold Mine Special.
The prices seem a bit high. The place is a sports bar, let's face it. But there isn't much more to the atmosphere, hence the 3 stars.
I would go back, definitely, but next time I'll bring my earplugs.

It's a pub, moreso than a sports bar (not really enough TVs), with a good selection of ~20 beers on tap, $4 each for non cheap-domestic. Burgers are pretty tasty, and come in infinite variety, for an average of $8 each.
The best deal is the Gold Mine, which is a 16oz burger (served effectively as 2 separate burgers), fries, and a 23-oz beer for $11.

pudley's, the long-standing local hangout that serves what people want. why serve bud, miller, and coors? its because thats what people who dont know any better always drink, so pudley's sells that tasteless amber water along with their massive selection of other good tasty brews on tap.. fat tire, anchor steam, strongbow, guinness, stella, new castle, yeah theres a beer for every taste here. they have good burgers at around the same price you'd expect anywhere else in the bay area, not excellent, but good. if they were better, i'd give em 4 stars. good place for kids, good for groups, good for people to just hang out. beers are huge like 22oz or something and just $4 a piece when we went over thangsgiving weekend. i will come back here because if anything else, they are consistent, they are friendly, the bartender is great, the bathrooms clean, the parking (back or front) adequate.
This place is really good. Get the gold mine special and split it with someone. 10 bucks for a HUGE burger, fries, and a pint! For beer try the blue moon with a orange. For people who don't eat a lot, the kids meals are affordable and still give you a full tummy, regardless of age.
This place is really very very good.
Great burgers and chicken sandwiches.
Pool table, heaps of beers etc..
They do this crazy thing with the beer where they give out like a 2 foot high tube filled with beer with a tap at the bottom. Awesome value.
Fun crowd, come to think of it I don't go here enough.
