What a fab concept!? Gourmet rice pudding in 18 or so flavors made with fresh organic ingredients. Fro-yo is soooo 2007.
You can add fruits, marshmallows, oreo cookies or granola for toppings. I stuck with raspberry and blueberry as toppings for my banana flavored rice pudding. Who would've thought rice pudding can be so yummy!!
They also have crepes if that's your thang. But you gotta try the pudding, you can't go wrong.
Super friendly staff. And I gotta give props to the pastel-minimalist-harajuku-esque decor. Who would've thought something so cool originated in Idaho!! =)Listed in: I heart Portland!

If you walked in here and had no idea that it was a rice pudding shop, you'd think you were in some trendy gelato/frozen yogurt shop with minimalist furniture and several flat screen TVs on the walls.
As you walk closer to the display case, you'll notice that those metal bins aren't contained with ice cream but RICE PUDDING in a ton of flavors just like ice cream. I've never encountered such a shop before. I sampled the coconut flavor (very good--like coconut cream pie) before selecting a small size of banana. The small size was perfect for the thick and creamy pudding...the cup is small, making you think that you might want to order up but because the pudding itself is so dense, the small size is more than generous (unless you really really love the stuff). The flavor was pretty good too, almost like banana pudding (which I love tremendously). I really wanted to try their tart frozen yogurt that they also serve but I didn't want to look like a pig by ordering a 2nd dessert. -

Yes, it's official, I'm in love. In love with rice pudding. Right after they opened I went past the shop but was in a hurry to get to a movie and thought nothing of it. Then I saw them featured on a local morning show and thought, "Hmmm, Linda would really like this!" So off we went.
The guy working the shop, the owner I think, was incredibly enthusiastic and very excited to tell us about it. He offered samples of any, and as many of the flavors as we wanted. Finally, we settled on "Vanilla Rice Rice Baby" for me and a crepe with "Bittersweet Symphony" filling for my wife. The crepes are fresh made, to order on the spot. The contrast of warm and was quite wonderful. The cold pudding was excellent as well; thick, sweet and with plenty of rice.
The shop itself is very modern, with "designer" furniture, LCD screens for menus and very bright lighting made worse by the white walls. I t felt like a 31 Flavors meets the Jetsons, but I liked it.
It was a great place and hope it does well. The concept is great and unique, but maybe a little too unique for the location. Only time will tell. I know we'll be back!Listed in: Good Eats

really good...if you like rice pudding!
I had rice pudding before so I didn't have much to compare this too. The man behind the counter was really nice and let me try as many as I wanted...which was like 5!!! Its thick and creamy...and ricey :)
I had the apple cinnamon which was really good. My boyfriend had a nutella crepe which was decadent (we watched the man butter the grill with LARD!!!!)...
The place was posh and clean and employees were friendly -

Sorry, folks. Frozen yogurt is still my go-to afternoon snack. I try to be at least somewhat health conscious, and I can't justify sucking down a cup full of milk/eggs/sugar/butter more often than once in a blue moon. Pudding on the Rice seems to be attempting a hip, forward-thinking philosophy (or so I gathered after chatting with the owner for a few minutes), but a place that serves what basically amounts to creamy sugary soup with rice in it doesn't garner more than a couple stars from me. To make matters worse, they're largest size is actually a little styrofoam box, and there's absolutely no reason for a business to use something that's completely non-biodegradable.
I'll give Pudding on the Rice points for being more original than your average ice cream parlor, but in all honesty two out of the three flavors my group tried were pretty bleh. The banana flavor (oh, sorry, "Bananarchy Cream Pie") was delicious, but the cookies and cream flavor was sub-standard and the "Raspberry Rousseau" flavor was downright nasty. I got a little sample spoon of the coconut flavor as well, and that was pretty tasty, but that's still only a 50% success as far as my tastebuds are concerned. No dice! The decor is interesting if a little "waiting room at Pixar Studios" for my liking. I'll give the place another shot if I'm ever at Bridgeport (lol, never) but for now I'll stick to my healthy froyo. -

Rice pudding eateries are hard to come by--this plus "Rice to Riches" in NYC are the only rice pudding centric places I've ever seen. It's pretty amazing that a suburb of a fairly small city can support such a unique place. They have a massive amount and wide variety of rice pudding flavors, and the nice dude working there will let you try samples of as many as you'd like.
The smallest size is big enough for a normal adult--it may look tiny, but this stuff is way heavier than ice cream! Plus the guy working here was awesome ! "Do you need a lid" he asked? "No thanks" I replied. "Okay, so I can pile it on then!" And then he proceeded to pile the rice pudding way above the top of the container. Nice service indeed.
The prices are more affordable than Rice to Riches and the packaging is less wasteful. So tons of bonus points for that! Please move to Portland! Please leave Tigard's "Bridgeport Village," which is so So Cal it's disgusting. I really don't want to have to feel like I'm in an outdoor mall in Orange county just to get some awesome rice pudding! -

Just went to see Ironman and found this little shop on our way out of the theater. I had never had rice pudding before but this is not too shabby stuff. Not really much of a value though. The medium, which is really kinda small, is $4.
So like, my money is probably going to stay over at Skinnydip until Pinkberry opens up around here.
They also have crepes if you're not really into this stuff. -

BumMER...
closed, eh? Ironically, it was here, before watchin Dark Knight in IMAX, that we came here to check out what this rice pudding had to offer... tried that, and very smooth and not too sweet. Nice!
but then, my dinnermate spotted a froyo machine...and ironically, here, in this now closed dessert place, that my tongue and tart (I call it Asian-style... blame Yakult) froyo first made contact. When tongue articulated with that spoon that lovingly cradled that froyo, there was an "elementary, Watson" moment, and I had no more questions about why this trend was spreading like hyphae!!
At least one more location still survives. -
Review from Alice R.
I SO wanted to like it. I love new and novel things and this place fits all of the cute parameters: cute place, cute logo, cute concept, cute little cups, cute colors, cute decor...anyway, it's cute. You get it. I know. And I would say, if you already like rice pudding, then by all means, go. Try it. If you're already a fan of this stuff then you will be impressed with all the wonderful variety of flavor offerings. The service is also first-rate. So, really this review is strictly for does Alice like rice pudding?
For me, it came down to: did I like it? Would I go again? I did not like it sam I am. It was a texture thing. On the plus side, Pudding on the Rice gave me a great reason to drive out to the Bridgeport Mall (which is lovely and very faux-parisian upscale-ish street stroll but with Borders, Gymboree and ZGallery instead). But I wouldn't drive out to Tigard again just to have rice pudding. Sorry. -

Their rice pudding was not for me. I could only stomach small amounts before the richness got to me and I started to get sick. However, I'm sad to see them closed down. My wife was a huge fan of their tart frozen yogurt with fresh fruit and I enjoyed their crepes and chocolate.
1 star for being closed, but normally I would've given this place a 3 or 4.

I should add some examples of the flavors they offer, since I have a menu on hand. They claim to have over 40 flavors of pudding made by scratch daily:
Apple Jack, Blueberry Finn, Castaway Coconut, Cinnamon Kane, Che's Cake (cheesecake), Craisin Arizona, Toffee, Espresso Self, Fourteen Karat Cake (carrot cake), Ginger Spice, Instant Karmal, Lemon Merengue, Living in the Pastachio, Mocha Mocha, Of Rice and Mint, Peachy Keen, Peanut Butterfuco, Pecan pi, Peppermint Schtick, Red Rum, Smashing Pumpkin, Strawberry Fields Forever, The Rocky Road Most Traveled, Vanilla Rice Rice Baby.
You can see they are very creative as well :)Listed in: Pig out in Portland, Eat your fruits & veggies....

Oh-My-God.
Pudding On The Rice, can you be my neighbor? You make me want to start singing Mr. Roger's songs, specifically, "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor - would you be mine? Could you be mine?"
I love rice pudding. Sssooooo much. My husband and I just happened to be at Bridgeport Village and I spotted this place and was instantly overcome with epicurean joy! After dinner, I dragged my husband inside.
They have about ... a million ... flavors to choose from. Check out their website to preview them if you have an ultra-hard-time figuring things out. Or, know that they will let you sample. They are so nice. I sampled the Red Rum and Amaretto flavors, and loved them both, but ultimately choose the Amaretto in the "Mega" size tub all for myself. Yum! OMG Yum! Another thing - you can mix flavors in the same container - so if you have two that you just can't decide between - you can select them both and be on your way.
They think of everything, too - if you take it to-go, they remember to put in spoons and napkins for you so you don't even have to think about it. No one remembers that kind of stuff anymore.
Please come be my neighbor!! :) -

First and foremost...the name is rather interesting but very appealing until you walk past the store and take a few steps back and think to yourself, "what is this."
Im glad my friend, Kris, insisted that we go in and see what tasty treats was being served.
I had the Vanilla with fresh berry toppings...yummy...
For such a new concept, they have quite a few flavors...roughly 2 dozen flavors...LOOK OUT BASKIN ROBBINS... -

YUM!
The idea is simple - one of those that I'm kicking myself for not thinking of first. A rice pudding bar? Near the movie theater?? In Portland??? Great idea.
The rice pudding is excellent and they'll let you try as many flavors as needed to make a decision. The crepes look great, but I just can't bring myself to order something other than pudding! (psst: I hear they may make crepes with rice pudding as the filler, which just might be the solution to the dilemma).
Everyone that works here is super, super nice and welcoming, and they seem thrilled to be serving you. Also, you've got to love the fact that you could probably eat off the floor (you could spot a speck of dust from a mile away on the sterile white tile). -

Stumbled into this place walking around Bridgeport after lunch. I love rice pudding so we HAD to stop! The guy at the counter was really friendly and helpful, offering us samples of anything. I ask him what his fav's are. He points out her current favorite, the seasonal pumpkin stating it tastes just like pumpkin pie. He also recommended the Castaway Coconut, Vanilla and the Chocolate.
Since I already had my eye on the coconut, I asked for the small cup. "You want to try it first?" he asks. "Nope!" With a surprised look on his face he fills the small cup. The smallest cups look really small, but they are the perfect portion! The Coconut was AWESOME! Taste just like coconut cream pie! Yum!
My husband got the Cardinal Sin (maraschino cherries and dark choc) equally good! Our friend tried the Rocky Road. My husband didn't realize he liked rice pudding!
Too bad we just had lunch, would've loved to try a crepe! Or a tart frozen yogurt w/all the great toppings they offer! Next time! -

I'm not much of a rice pudding fan, but if you are you'll love this place! they even have fro-yo & crepes! this isn't your typical cafeteria pudding ~ they make it from fresh, quality, imported ingredients.. it's smooth and rich.
my friend got the raspberry pudding and i got the tart frozen yogurt. i had a taste of it and it was pretty good. had nice chunks of raspberry... we're both fro yo fans, so he ended up stealing my yogurt... i liked the fro yo better than the pudding. the rice pudding is really rich, so a small size was good for the both of us.
cute, clean store right across the movie theatres at bridgeport mall. definitely worth a try!
3 stars for the pudding.
4 stars for the fro yo.
I recommend you try both and you'll get the best of both worlds (sweet+tart)Listed in: Whatchu know about FRO-YO?!

Rice pudding??? Ew! That's what I USED to think. This place is YUMMY!
Advice: order a fabulous crepe, put something wonderfully sweet inside like the chocolate rice pudding. It's warm and decadent! But...... I recommend getting an order of the WONDERFULLY tart plain frozen yogurt to eat with it to tone down the richness of the chocolate. You will be SO Happy you will moan. At least I did... THE WHOLE TIME.
It's a tiny bit complicated to figure out the ordering process but the guy behind the counter is really nice and lets you try anything you want. He knows it takes awhile to think/chose and make the crepe so he will ask the next people what they want to try while you think. You need time to feel the place out but you MUST ORDER ... it is SO GOOD! -

This place is nothing short of incredible. The guy behind the display who helped me (who turned out to be the owner, incidentally) was so genuinely nice and friendly! He encouraged me to sample several kinds of rice pudding--each of which was my favorite, by turns--and then, noticing my anguish in having to decide between yogurt and rice pudding, told me he could do a dish of half tart frozen yogurt & half rice pudding of my choice. This is my new favorite dessert anywhere. I chose coconut rice pudding, and it was the perfect counterpoint to the yogurt. Speaking of the frozen yogurt--it's the real thing: tart, just a hint of sweetness, with active live cultures. I've found it at Trader Joe's but nowhere else--until tonight. I'm just sorry I wasn't hungry enough to try one of those beautiful crepes. Next trip, I guess. :-)
By the way, in case you're wondering whether there's a story behind this interesting combination of dessert offerings--the owner told me that he and his wife just decided to start a shop serving their favorite things, focusing on quality (everything is made from scratch on the premises). Bravo! I wish more restaurants operated on such a perfect and simple philosophy. -

what an unexpected surprise finding this place after watching a movie in Bridgeport. I loved rice pudding growing up and haven't had it in ages.
the number of choices was pretty overwhelming, but the super friendly server was willing to let us try as many different flavors as we wanted. the toffee was pretty tasty though I think a fruity flavor might have been better. also, the smallest size is PLENTY for one person since it's pretty rich.
they also have yogurt and crepes, one of which I'll probably try the next time I make it back there. -

Ok so this IS the new gelato!!! Or unless until the rain stops pouring down....I have often dreamed of the decadence and taste of ice cream without the actual coldness of the dessert and I have found my answer from god (or england?)! Anyhoo I had the coconut mixed a bit with the cheese cake flavored pudding and it was like manna from heaven...ok ok..enough with the analogies..but seriously their ingredients are top notch, the high school boy behind the counter was nice and not annoying and the atmosphere was hello kitty meets 2001 a space odyssey. I am def. going back! This rice pudding is NOTHING like your grandma made, or those packages in the store...so give it a try..or three..or five...or whatever...collect the gosh dang taster spoons they are cool with that.....i asked... And I am cool with this place!

Gourmet rice pudding! anyone? But you gotta drive to Bridgeport village.
There are 2 things I like about Bridgeport village:
1. Crate&Barrel
2. Blue Tangerine
And now I have #3, Pudding on the Rice and it is right next to Blue Tangerine.
POTR is a desert bar that serves up gourmet pudding and looks just like a Gelato bar except POTR tries to be more modern with flashy colors, LCD screens and pudding comes in 3 sizes kilobite, megabite and gigabite!!
They just had a soft opening and I am hoping will add more seating options since I don't think more than 3 couples can sit right now.
But you can get your pudding to go as well, yes they are good to go!
They also have dessert crepes, lets take a look at their LCDs for their price!

We sampled a few and settled with the coconut, which was YUM!
We also tried a crepe w/ Nutella, not the best. Batter had too much egg. I think they should just focus on the pudding.
I am gonna go ahead and say, this is a first of its kind in PDX.

its so white inside it makes my eyeballs hurt and it makes me think i could successfully remove someone's appendix with ease. beyond the sterile environment are really friendly staff and a wide variety of different flavored rice puddin'.
I am no fan of rice puddin' but I tired a sample of the bittersweet symphony (cuuuuuuuuz its the bittersweet symphony thats liiiiiife) it was chocolatey and pretty good - however its really rich -- not sure if I could eat a whole cup of it...
I settled on a fresh made crepe -- with peanut butter and nutella --yummo! I asked for it to go so it was all wrapped up in a cup which actually made it easier to eat then when its spread out on a plate.
The crepes are $4 for one topping and $.50 for each add'l.
ps: don't actually try to operate in here.. I might want a crepe soon and would hate to interrupt a delicate procedure. -

was SO full from my dinner at "the observatory" (see review). first, the bad. they need MUSIC. you walk in, it's all white with cute colors here and there, but QUIET. something, please! also, there are these 3 large tvs up on the wall with the same screen. no animation, nothing. i think it'd be nice if there was something.
the good. it's damn good. i'm so lucky i have a brother that knows good food and knows me :) he takes me to all the yummy places in the greater portland area. i ordered the mint rice pudding with yogurt. i like it better with the yogurt. it addes a nice tart flavor and more depth to the dessert.
i'll be back. there are SO many different flavors that change here and there. can't wait!!!Listed in: my Portland picks

Portland, OR
First and foremost, this place gets 5 stars from me just for having at least 3 puns in its name. I'm a grammatical freak, but I really freaked for the rice pudding here. My grandma made southern-style rice pudding, loaded with vanilla and nutmeg, so I have high standards. I admit I was distracted by the neon colors and stark white walls, but the sign reading "crepe with nutella and banana" focused my attention. Then, I stood before the altar of rice pudding idols and all it took was one bite. The sweet girl behind the counter encouraged me to try as many as I wanted, but I didn't even have to taste the other flavors, just honed in on the English Toffee business and ooohhhhh, ahhhhhh, there it is. That's the one. So sated, I completely forgot about the crepe, so I'll have to return soon.

It wasn't anything new to me having been to Japan on a number of occassions. The prices were a bit high, and the servings were pretty small. Personally, I have had much better rice pudding and would've rather had gelatto. I wouldn't recommend it unless I knew someone would like it. The staff was awesome though letting everyone try as many flavors as they wanted, so I gave an extra star. Not to mention that they knew their stuff, which helped us figure out what to try and enjoy to an extent.

Hoping to become an Oregonian very soon, and be close to our son, daughter-in-law, and new grandson, we have spent several wonderful weeks here during the last year. Three trips to be exact.
This time, we were delighted to meet Jessica and sample the light but elegant crepes and rice puddings in this immaculately clean shop located in the Bridgeport Shopping Center.
Jessica is a lovely young lady who made us feel, welcome and at home within the first few moments. The reasonably price crepes were fantastic and the rice puddings are beyond description (that's how creamy and delish you will find them). As a retired Pennsylvania State Certified Executive Chef and Culinary Arts Teacher of more than forty years, I recommend this experience for anyone who hungers for that incredible sensation of eating something that brings back immediate memories of one's childhood. -

They just opened up on the Portland South Park Blocks next to PSU. They had a Groupon I decided to check it out on my lunch break. I had a savory crepe of tomatos, parmesan cheeses, and freshly picked basil, and a cup of the Cinnamon Kane pudding. Very delicious and filling! I'll be coming back to try all the other pudding flavors for sure.

Pudding on the Rice is one of my addictions, their frozen yogurt is the creamiest and yummiest frozen yogurt. I have been going here very frequently for the past 2 years, and have never been disappointed with quality or customer service I have received. The staff is always very attentive to my needs, making sure everything tastes good and to my liking. I also get their crepes a lot too, and they are wonderful! I actually went today for lunch and got a savory crepe. I am going to be very sad that they are moving to another location, because it is one of my favorite local eateries!
