Good bar, nice beer selection. Nice to hangout for happy hour with colleagues or friends. If you are going out with date, there is bar downstairs too which is quite and more intimate. I liked the table seating with a round table in the corner, good for a group of 5-6 friends.
Verdict - Good bar if you live in the n'hood or wanna grab some good beer after shopping around in SoHo. -

Had my NYC going away party here last week. tear tear.
They got us the upstairs area to ourselves which was great. Thankfully I'm 5'10 because the ceiling is LOW. So if you are tall listen to Lil Jon and get low. One of my friends bf is 6'8 and had to walk strategically between the rafters where his head could fit.
Music was good, drinks were reasonable and good times were had by all -

I think it says something that a bar can't muster up more 5 star reviews than four. They serve alcohol for Peter's sake. This says to me that people had pretty much the same experience that I had. I was there with an ex-girlfriend. I got sufficiently inebriated. And yet, there was something off putting about the night I spent there. I didn't have that euphoria we seek with the perfect combination of spirits and music and friends. I couldn't understand it. Hot girlfriend and getting laid: check. Firewater [which is quite good]: check. Music: check. So I'm reading the reviews here online years later and it dawns on me. The crowd. It's not that I didn't like the crowd. I had no idea that this crowd was any different any other. The problem was that the crowd wasn't there for the bliss. I'm only realizing that now, as I perchance am investigating a good whiskey bar for my date next week.
Reading the reviews, I hear many people mentioning "the crowd", which is good if the crowd is somehow united in what the Romantics coined as "the sublime". The atmosphere that Puck's tries to create is one of Ye Old Reverie. The crowd would be more fitting to something sleeker. Metal chairs and black and white marble. People that frequent those types of places usually have some big Black chap [it's okay I'm African American] with hands the size of small children barring the door to keep the population within ventilated. You could life your feet at some points in the bar and still be standing. And you get the impression that people mind getting their $500 wardrobe ruffled. [For some, that's probably their shirt alone.] And I get it, they want to be seen somewhere unpretentious. But they still want to be scene. I've lived in New Orleans, and I've gone to college. And I've been in many a place where the atmosphere is super crowded and the mood is euphoric. The difference between those places and this is a total lack of self-consciousness.
My advice would be to buys the space next door, expand the bar, and watch the 5 star ratings fly. -

Ok, so the food was edible, but when I'm in the mood for a hamburger I don't expect it on an overly toasted English Muffin and if you're going to bother asking how I want it done don't just make the burger the way you please. What separates this from a stellar pub are the small things, as has been said many times in this thread, everything they do is passable, but disappointing in some way shape or form, except the extensive beer list.
Firstly, the 'cocktail' list seems to have been made by some cretin bartender, while I accept that this is an Irish pub I would appreciate no cocktail list at all than a Mint Julep made with Jameson and a splach of claret (shudder) or a Gimlet without Rose's Lime Cordial (which I sampled and was, in fact, an abomination, it was drinkable, but most certainly NOT a Gimlet), or a Dark & Stormy without Gosling's Rum, even when I see it there on the back bar (one of the few drinks that really needs brand specific ingredients, and I somehow doubt they were stocking Barett's ginger beer in the back).
Two of our party were not drinking alcohol at dinner and no one at the table was ever offered water, or the chance to order it with our food, any decent server/bartender should either just be pouring water, or at the very least asking the table. This mistake wasn't helped by the ~20 minute wait for our food, which consisted of a soup & salad order, cuban's and a medium hamburger.
The french fries came straight out of a mass market bag, and while they aren't bad, they're not nearly quality and they're the same fries I've had at good roadside diners with my 5$ lunches, not a sign of a healthy kitchen.
Additionally the decor and atmosphere were lukewarm and bearable at best, nothing to write home about and the standard yet good bar music was the high note.
All else being equal there weren't any serious flaws with the place, but there was nothing to attract me back to it except the beer list, which you can find elsewhere and as a bartender the cocktail list made me laugh and cry at the same time. The service was congenial but forgetting water is a hideous oversight as is the 20+ minutes for a round of sandwiches on a quiet Monday. The kind of place you wish would just go out of business so something better would spring up in its place...if you want to get rowdy drunk I'd suggest a local dive bar, and if you want a better meal there are plenty of places nearby like the Delicatessen, this place takes the most mediocre parts of both and places them in a head on collision. -

ORDER A BROOKLYN! This place was one of the few that has had the Sorachi Ace, and BLAST on draft. I can't explain the joy. We have made special trips from the upper east side to drink here and we really appreciate the local beers.
Food is great too and it's huge so usually able to move around and there's a downstairs too. -
Review from Maeve C.
I came here for a friend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it, starting with my delicious burger cooked just like I asked, aww shucks! Also enjoyed the veggie quesadilla that we ordered for the table to share, so much so that I ended up eating half of it...oops.
Once we moved upstairs to the balcony area that we had reserved, I went broke buying round after round of good beers from their comprehensive menu. I guess the effort I should have put into getting people to buy me drinks went into deciding which I would try next?
Overall, I had a good time but from my perch up above it looked like the place did get a bit loud and crowded for those stuck on the ground floor, poor souls. -
Review from KC O.

Most of you know KC's brother Maise. If KC told you what he does for a living, you'd be blown away. He's part spy, part super hero. KC misses him so when he gets paged, KC races to a secure phone to return the call.
KC: Hey man. Howzit?
Maise: Good. Pardon the Fart Friday Night. Say 10PM?
KC: See you there.
The conversations are short but we read each other. We've been meeting at Puck Fair for nearly ten years when he returns to U.S. soil. KC was on a plane to the city Friday afternoon, checked into The Mercer in SoHo off Prince Street, grabbed a slice from Ray's and was in a cab for Puck Fair.
The pub is named after a festival in County Kerry...specifically Killorglin where KC's younger brother, Maise was born. The place and the fair aren't exactly great but Maise obviously has an affinity for it despite his usual penchant for avoiding habits for security reasons.
Maise was there when KC entered the joint. It's a truly beautiful pub with multiple levels and when The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" bellows out of the speakers, the place has a pulse. Because it's so crowded and in such a huge city, Maise always feels very comfortable not being in disguise and sitting at the main bar. Maise loves the ladies so when he's on leave, Puck Fair provides quite the fertile feeding ground.
We spent a few hours draining bottles of Tullamore Dew 10 Year and a few pints of stout. Around 2 AM, Maise pulled a splendid looking, tall brunette underwear model and excused himself. Being accustomed to Maise's conquests, KC played the good wing man and chatted up her friend...only to politely decline her advances since Mrs. KC is all he fucks.
KC probably won't see his brother for a few more years, if at all because of the danger of Maise's work. But when, the call comes...bet your ass KC will be on a Virgin flight to NYC to belly up at Puck Fair. -

I work in the area and I've been to Puck Fair quite a few times. I must first comment, as not many people on yelp have, that the food here is fantastic. It is far above many bars I've been too. Many of my coworkers come here for lunch. The burger is great and the cuban sandwich in my opinion rivals that of Cafe Habana's down the street. Also be on the look out for the food specials, particularly the chicken teriyaki wrap.
I also like the ambiance of the place, which is both cozy and relaxing. The space has a double height ceiling with brick walls and wood decor. Its never feels claustrophobic and I always have a good time here. Make sure to stop in during the different holidays as they do a nice job of decorating the place. I particularly like Halloween with the cobwebs and Christmas with the hundreds of ornaments hanging from the ceiling.
The bartenders do a great job of servicing everyone and are very friendly. While they the don't always have the specially beers they list on the wall, they have a large selection on tap. Now grab a friend or two and come to Puck Fair. Have a beer and chill. -

This has been my Manhattan go-to spot for the better part of a decade. They always play good music, the crowd is fun and the staff is top-notch. If you're a regular, they make sure to treat you well and that you get served in a timely fashion.
I've had multiple birthdays here, and it has never disappointed. The drink selection is great, there are a LOT of beers on tap, and the place is what a quintessential bar should be. -

What can I say? This is a gem. We stumbled in here, unsure of where else to go. And it was great. They have a terrific beer selection, and the beer isn't exactly expensive either. I also ordered a goat cheese salad which was terrific. Between three of us we spent $40. Good service, good vibe, will be back!

If you blink, you'll miss this place, so be sure not to blink! Unpretentious Irish pub with a good selection of everything. Beer, snacks, food, music, they've got the goods. It's around the corner from my old office and this was our go-to happy hour spot (which often turned into hours and hours). Always friendly staff who never kicked us out, even when it was clear we should go. I'm sad that I won't be able to go there as often.

This is a great bar. As I enter my late 20s I become less tolerant of extremely crowded places. This place has a nice crowd and you don't feel suffocated. There are also tables which is nice because then you end up eating and drinking with your friends for hours. Last time I was there I tried the Coney Island Mermaid Lager. It was good, I recommend it.
P.S.
Their Christmas decorations inside are lovely!! Made the place so festive and fun! -
Review from Katie S.
3.5 stars. Came here one night last week since I had a friend leaving NYC and one of the last things she wanted to do was go to a new place with a large selection of beer. Puck Fair has a pretty decent selection of beer although not super extensive. Everything in the pub is wooden so it feels very cozy in there, and the food is standard pub food. We had curry fries, pulled pork sliders, regular sliders, and the sausages. Sausages were basically pigs in a blanket, which a couple of my friends thought tasted weird, so you could probably do without ordering that. If you want the curry fries I suggest ordering one order and then ordering one order of just regular fries because all you're doing is paying $1 extra for the curry sauce. There's plenty of curry sauce that comes out with one order so you will have plenty leftover after.
Good place to go if you just want to get casual drinks. I will say though that there was a bit of a funky smell which I think someone mentioned previously. We were wondering if it's because they might be keeping fish behind the bar? No clue, but the smell alone was kind of bothering us. Overall though was a good time. Good place to come chill out with a small group. -
Review from Paul C.
I love you Puck Fair. Just just because you're right off the F, or because you always have a good dozen beers on tap which always deliver. Not only because walking down those stairs is wonderful torture--but because you have good food, good bartenders and great ambiance. Yeah, those fries are great.

I went down to find a true Guinness stew. I asked the very cute waitress if it was a true Guinness stew or this crap tomato based shit people have been passing off on both coasts for years. She assured me it was dark and a Guinness stew. Unfortunately, it was an American and not Irish stew. Tomato based. Barely Guinness-braised beef, which does not cut it. You are supposed to cook in a Guinness based broth. The end result should be as dark as a Guinness pint, but taste rich and hearty. Now, don't let me disparage the cook entirely. It was a truly good American beef stew. Just NOT a Guinness stew. Top ingredients. Great taste. Tasty. Just NOT an Irish stew. Why can no one in Manhattan - a place loaded with Irish people - produce one restaurant with true Irish cuisine? Nachos and quesidillas and potato skins is bar food... NOT Irish food. Will everyone wake the fuck up and make some true Irish food?!
THE GOOD? Great service. Friendly vibe. Good American stew. And promotional free shots of beers. So. I would not say to avoid this place at all. Just don't go for an Irish meal. -

New York, NY
I really like this bar but I always feel like its missing something. Games or something fun to do. This place is only for getting a beer and lil food, and then leave to the next spot. Its a little too spendy for what it is. I've heard they have live music down stairs but I haven't been lucky enough to time it right. I like the long bar and decor but the mounted TV locations seem awkward.

Love this place! I came here with a friend and we were just looking for some good grub and drinks, but not something too upscale that it will put a dent in our wallets. I remembered a friend had told me about Puck Fair so we swung by and I'm very glad I did. They have a bunch of beers on tap and even more in bottles...and of course what Irish bar would be complete without a plethora of whiskeys?!
We sat at the bar and ordered our food and drinks there. I had the burger and fries which was excellent and I also asked for a side of the curry gravy that they have to go with my fries and it was outstanding! The bartender was a really cool dude...and yes...he was Irish. He let me sample a few of the beers on tap that I hadn't had before to see which one I liked. He was very attentive and provided cool conversation. This is my kind of place and I can't wait to go back! -

Been here a couple times now and, while it certainly isn't some trendy avant guard Soho bar... THAT'S EXACTLY WHY ITS AWESOME!
They have a great selection of beers and they serve food late and its all good stuff -- you can get a great salad with chicken skewers or fries and wings and its all good.
Living in this neighbourhood, i have to say... I hate the Bleecker Street scene and a lot of the bars in Soho are very trendy, snooty and sceney... and Puck Fair is just relaxed, basic, nice normal people, good music. The staff is always really friendly. Whats not to like? I like it! -
Review from Laura K.
Wonderful bar where you can chill out and relax, at least in the late afternoon/early evening which is when I tend to visit. They have a great beer list and I like the little nooks where you can grab a table.
The bar is nothing extraordinary but that's why I like it... Good service, cozy atmosphere, no attitude. A nice place to drop in for a pint and take a break from the city. -

Went here for a few drinks after dinner on a Friday night, and we had a good time. It is expensive (we were visiting NYC, so maybe the prices are normal), but the staff was friendly and the service was quick. The atmosphere is enjoyable, it was a little dark inside, but not too bad. There wasn't much room to move around, but we were able to grab a few stools at the bar, which was much better than standing around, as it seems we were always in someones way. It seems this would be a good place for Happy Hours.

I got suckered into going here because I had done the Live-In-Theater mystery show and they were all like, "Ohhhh we got you the hook-up on some exclusive drink specials! Just for being you!!" I got there and the exclusive club was called EVERYONE. The special was actually $5 Narragansett.
Anyway. Bars like this are a dime a dozen. There was nothing unique or memorable about it. -

Good place to chill with friends and have drinks... not much else. Just a standard bar.
I don't remember a lot BUT from what I do remember- One star off for the douchebag bouncer who made me cry!
I also remember holiday hats, recession fries, girl drama and doing Irish Car Bombs.... See, that's why I don't really remember my night. HahaListed in: Inebriated: A fancy word for…

We went in for happy hour and munchies after spending the day shopping and putzing around. It was busy with the after work crowd, but not packed, and we managed to find to find the only free table in the place.
We really enjoyed the atmosphere, which was incredibly chill and reminiscent of an Irish pub or your favorite college bar. Great music, attentive staff, extensive selection of draught beers, decent prices. The curry sauce that accompanies the fries take the side to a whole other level. -

Another manhattan pub-style bar. It's crowded, there are people, there is booze.

Review from Brian m.
I really like this place. My friends love it. Actually, a lot of people love it. And there lies the problem ... it's often so dang busy that you have no choice but to stand in some little corner of the place. This is no fault of the establishment, however the busy-ness does affect the experience of the average customer, so I would suggest avoiding this place during Happy Hours (particularly in the summer).
Other than that, the place is pretty great. Ample seating and space (when it's not packed), PF is a good choice for small groups. They also has a vast beer selection, something for every palate, with prices that are quite reasonable for Soho too.
The all-wood vibe (bar/tables/chairs/partitions) gives you a nice visual break from the steely world of New York City, and the bartenders and waitstaff are friendlier than one would expect from a pub. Good times, good times.
One Suggestion for the weary: There's additional seating downstairs should you arrive at a busy time. Enjoy! -

ASTORIA, NY
I've been coming here for almost 15 years. It's not exactly an authentic Irish pub - it's more like an homage to an Irish pub. There are classic Irish quotes wallpapered behind the bar. The main room is huge - with double height ceilings and a loft in the back. The cozy basement space is a good place to hole up with your literary friends and debate the merits of Joyce. There are a lot of nice nooks and crannies in this place - it's actually possible to carry on a private conversation here. Actually, my one (minor) complaint is that the seating arrangements do not encourage random chats with strangers. However, the private spaces can be very convenient. I once had a birthday party on the loft, and it went very well. The food is great (fat hamburgers, delicious fish and chips, solid Irish breakfast). There are plenty of new and interesting beer choices for your hops-nerd boyfriend. One of the rare things about this bar (which is probably why it has lasted so long in NYC) is that it is fine by both men and women. TIP: the waitresses will probably let you sit at one of those "reserved" tables if you ask nicely.

Puck Fair is a generic pub style bar - good selection, fair prices, large size, good mix of crowds, and not necessarily memorable. However, I think that this is a positive, especially in this part of town, where there is a dearth of low-key, unpretentious bars.

I really love this bar. Great beer selection, low key entranceway, the music isn't too loud and it's good, and it's never too crowded. It's great to go to for a beer with a friend or a few friends. The food is great. My favorite aspect of this place is the ambiance/attitude.

I've been here to eat a couple of times because its right across the street from my gym. Yep... I like to burn calories just so I can replenish those lost calories... no wonder I never lose any weight!
This place is standard pub food with an irish flair. I was extremely happy this past Saturday when my group of 8, exhausted from eating all day on a food tour decided to slow down our eating roll and grab a drink. When we walked in on Saturday around 4-5 pm, they were able to seat us quickly in the big table. Nice!
Our waitress was fun and friendly. She had to come back 6 times before all of us ordered and she didn't seem angry or annoyed by it, so another 2 cheers to her!
I ordered the bloody mary and was quite pleased with the presentation... coarse flakes of black pepper with three huge olives and a lemon wedge. (see photo)
All and all, this place is quite fun if you come at the right time... otherwise it tends to get really crowded and waiting for a table is not as fun! -

Had a large group of people that just wanted to drink. I liked that they have 2 different levels of seating. The waitress wasn't the most friendly or accommodating. Other than that the bar is pretty average, with good beer selection and not too loud. A good place to start the night.
