I had no idea that there was such a great outdoor theatre venue in Boston (and it's been there since 1971)! The Publick Theatre was a wonderful find that I discovered via Gold Star Events. It's located at Herter Park on a "manmade island." Since there are only 125-seats (benches as well as stadium-style seating), it's a intimate venue under the stars. It makes for a romantic date if you bring a picnic to enjoy prior to curtain time, but you can also kick back with a beer from the concession stand.

The play we saw was delightful (Hay Fever by Noel Coward), but we were somewhat distracted by the mosquitoes that attempted to dine on us by moonlight. I highly suggest availing yourself of the complimentary bug spray that they offer upon entrance to the venue, but you may also want to bring your own as I saw a few other patrons re-apply during the show.

Plentiful parking is a major bonus. Minus one star because they should probablyy invest in some citronella candles to keep those mosquitoes at bay! And maybe some heat lamps too for those unseasonally chilly summer nights...

4 stars just for the setting.  I stumbled upon this place the other night while riding my bike. It made me wish I was in to theater, because I would love to spend an evening on this little island watching a good show.

But I'm not in to theater, so  I think they should have concerts here once in a while. That would be awesome...

Going here was the best night out I've had in years. For one, the outdoor theatre is beautiful on a summer night. The production and acting was top notch. They sell beer and wine which is a plus. The staff are welcoming and warm. Honestly, I can't believe it isn't sold out every night. I highly recommend season passes. Excellent independent theatre.

The publick theatre has a diverse cast of actors which rotates anually  as well as from show to show. They consistantly produce excellent shows as well as their amazing Young Company comprised entirely of local teenagers, and they're actually good!

The publick theatre is awesome.  There are amazing shows that run in rep. every other week.  The casts are spectacular and the seating and theatre space isn't intimidating.  It is a beautiful outdoor space, where there is a potential for being bug biten, but the summer-esque experiance makes up for that.

I saw a production of "Arcadia" over here, which was delightful. It is an outdoor theater, which means that in the summer heat mosquitoes feast on the tight grouping of fresh meat that is the audience...So when you see the bottles of OFF! at the entrance, jump to it. If not, you might end up focusing your attention on those tiny predators rather than on the actors...
