Category: Hair Salons [Edit]
Neighborhood: Brooklyn/Williamsburg - South SideI've been going to Brooke for a little less than a year now and I love her cuts. She is one of the few hair stylists that understands "keep the length." Her hair cuts are precise and edgy. The salon itself is no frills, very Williamsburg.
I've been going to Laura for years and am always impressed with her cuts and colors. She is amazing, and her cuts last for months and months on end.

Went here with a friend for dual Friday night cut 'n' color jobs as a fun pre-birthday dinner activity and totally dug it. It's a nice big lofty space with hardwood floors, unadorned white walls and huge mirrors in front of the chairs; they were playing Arcade Fire (the first, better album), which was cool and if I may add, in contrast to other commenters, completely unpretentious. My stylist, Brooke, was very friendly and yet no-nonsense. If don't really want to chat, book Brooke. My friend had Laura, a very chatty fun girl. They both gave us excellent cuts, and knew what they were doing -- gotta give it up for knowing how to cut dry hair! Brooke gave me the bangs of my dreams, and my friend got a kick-ass short cut. $156 for cut and single process -- not bad at all. I will totally go back!

The Public Salon is my salon of choice in the NYC area. The actual space is clean and gorgeous and the staff is friendly, cool and experienced. Some reviewers before me seemed put off by pretension but I have never experienced any hint of that.
Laura W. is my personal fave at the salon. I hear everyone there is great, but I have a personal attachment to her. A few months back I was bold enough to get a haircut in Barcelona that turned into the worst haircut of my life. Too many layers, totally glam rock, not my steez at all. The second I walked into the salon for 'bang repair' I knew I was in good hands. Not only did she fix the mess, she turned it into sex kitten gold.
Long story short, I have been going to them religiously since that point and suggest you do to. They're worth every penny!
i went here twice. it's GORGEOUS, as a space. and i personally didn't find the hairdressers pretentious at ALL. and i noticed people of both sexes going in and out with all sorts of hair ranging from blah long to crazy short or colorful or weird whatever...
the first time the place was an immense relief liberating me from this horrible BOB i got some place else (if you WANT a bob, i'm sure they can do that at pubic - never fear...) and the second time, i was a bit in shock because my hair is about 2 cm long on the back on my head... but it's fine.
i give it THREE stars because... da da dum! finale drum roll - it was EIGHTY-NINE DOLLARS NOT WITH TIP. the first time i went i had a coupon so it was 60.
i am a bit annoyed because i was planning to go back - i have to if i want to have short hair, but 89 dollars a pop is ... a lot. it gives pause for reflection.
i am open to all suggestions as to cheaper and equally cool options.
cheers

when i walked into the salon and sat down my stylist's funny little dog immediately jumped into my lap and i was offered a (half - because they needed to brew more) cup of coffee. the client before me left after a few moments, and the stylist and receptionist wasted no time searching for his band's myspace page so they could play his music for the duration of my consult and shampoo. hopefully that gives you a pretty good sense of what kind of salon experience this is. i was the only client there so it felt a bit like a secret. very neighborhoody. cut (by tommy) is quite good. he was chatty, no lectures about dying my own hair or disliking products, super receptive to my requests, and happy to change up a few things after the blow-out. $65 + tip, and that's the cheapest it comes here.

Pretentious yet cool Williamsburg defined. I will only go to this place to get my hair done because everyone knows what they are doing, even if they are total jerks. Well, not all of them. I go to Thomas who is a pro and will give you something cool no matter what. Definitely go to him if you are a dude looking to start your own band that starts with the word "The..."

This is where you need to go to get your hair cut in Williamsburg. This intimate space feels like you are in someone's living room where everyone is getting an interesting hair cut. They have a variety of price ranges depending on the stylist you request - starting at $85 i think, but call to confirm.
The attitude is nothing but friendly here and the stylists can give you a great technical cut - which is rare. Usually good hair cuts come with a stylist attitude you have to deal with. If you only like traditional hair cuts, they can do that easily here, but why bother with sticking to your usual hair cut when you can utilize these stylist's skills to make you look hot! Hair is half of your look so you better make sure yours is rocking.

This is the place to get your hair done. The stylists are truly good at their jobs and will give you great haircut. I've been going for almost 2 years and even the prices won't keep me away. All the stylists are extremely friendly and they treat you exceptionally well.
