uh oh...
i went here with some of my friends for the 2nd time after raving about how tasty and innovative the donuts were, but this time they were not so great. i went here around 4:00 and they barely had any donuts left. Most of us had to settle with our second choices. I bought the desserted island donut. it was arrite, it had a little bit of coconut and cinnamon sugar on it. my friend bought the cookie monster one. there's one thing i hate and it's soggy cookies. i believe since it was sitting there since 6 or 7 in the morning, the cookies on top of the donut went bad.
if you ever want to come here, i advise you to go in the morning. last time i went around 10am and the donut toppings were still crispy

YESS! I finally went to psycho donuts after seeing all the cool donut pics on their website!
Pros:… Read more »
One day my coworker brought in a dozen psycho donuts to work and the first thing I discover is my manager with a fork and knife sampling each of the donuts! I was like "OMG, no one is gonna want to eat a donut that has been hacked into!" She rolls her eyes at me and tells me to calm down and join here.
I look in the box and see all sorts of donuts - ones with cereal, cookies, candies.. I couldn't help my self and followed my managers instructions to join her. Together we helped ourselves to every single flavor in the box. Trying our best to neatly slice a piece off each donut. I found most of the donuts too sweet, but heck that did stop me from trying more. My favorite was the one topped with rice krispies and peanut butter.
mMm.. donuts.
CORALINEEEE! CORALINEEEE! BUBBLEWRAPPP! DOH-NUTSSSS!!!
this was basically what this establishment was screaming when i walked through the door.
and i LOVE it!
if the staff over at Krispy Kreme knew i was here, they'd be heart-broken.
and beyond that, they'd go psycho.
first thought, OMG THE GIRL WORKING HAS LIKE 10 DIFFERENT HAIR COLORS!
and as she smiles back, she extends her hand with a simple "Bubblewrap??"
*jaw drops* oh no weiiiii! as i take my piece of bubble goodness and proceed to pop it....with my teeth. om nom nom i need donuts now!
donuts are NOT round. or circular. or cylindrical. or normal looking donuts for all that matters. they be triangles....and you know what they say about triangles :O
or maybe you want the donut where it looks like a little man crossing his legs because he has to pee really badly.
i came at 10pm so there wasn't much selection left.
ended up with the Strawberry fields forever which was a triangle topped with pink strawberry glaze and dried strawberry pieces and a beautiful strawberry pocky stick laid dramatically across the top.
also the Donilla. which is a triangle glazed donut with NEE-LA WA-FERS on top.
also i chomped off my friend's green tea triangle donut.
all of them were sweet. all of them were fantabulous. and all of them made me go "E-GAD! what a wonderful donut!"
but what threw me over the top was their little music station where you can plug in your i-whatever and play a song or two (long as it's not rap!)
forgot my icrap at home, but next time i'm here, it's lady gagagagagagaggagagagaa. and i'm going to be the crazy one dancing all over the store with a donut in my hand and bubblewrap in my mouth.
normal people are overrated anyway.
So Happy Belated Halloween everybody! I didn't go trick or treatin' last night, but BF-J & I decided to get our spooky sweet yesterday afternoon with our 36-mile drive to Campbell, CA for the famous Psycho Donuts =)
LOCATION: Right on the intersection of Winchester Blvd & W Campbell Ave. Small corner shopping center w/ 3 store fronts (Psycho Donuts is in the middle). Small private parking lot.
DONUT SHOP: Again, small shopping center & small donut shop, but inventive & fun donuts that seem to pull in a good crowd...or a curious crowd like me & BF *tee-hee*
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
CUST SVC: Great lookin' Zombie Nurses as cashiers. The ladies looked deathly, but were pretty friendly & helpful =)
PSYCHO'S HALLOWEEN: We arrived just around 2pm in time for the Bopping 4 Donuts Contest. There were 4 contestants who bopped their faces in a large bowl of icing for Psycho's "Nose Bleed" donuts. The winner went to the youngest contestant, but of course right!
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
OUR PSYCHO DOZEN DONUTS: Yeah, I basically had to play "pleading & pouting GF" to BF-J where I wanted to go & why I wanted to go here. He reeeally wasn't up for a 36-mile drive, but after hearing my record play for like 1.5hrs Sat morning, whadda ya know...we got in our ride & off to Psycho Donuts *tee-hee*. We got the $15 Psycho Dozen, but final cost $19:
CapN Crunch & Smores
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
KeyLime, Green-Nose Bleeds, CocoPuffs, & CookieMonster
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
If you counted the dozen in my pics, ur right...4 donuts missing. Well, we had gotten 4 Head Traumas (jelly donuts), but when we got home 2 see all those placed on the bottom had lost their faces when I pulled the wax paper back...yeah, ur girl was truly disappointed...I missed my photo-opp =( That was really the 2nd disappointment...1st disappoint was arriving around 2pm Sat (Halloween Day) to find out they were out of Donut Fries & weren't having any come out soon (dag nab it!)
BITTER BITES: Any of the "cereal" donuts are probably best eatten the day purchased; BF didn't feel his "CapN Crunch" was exactly fresh cereal 2day. "Green-Nose Bleed" was custard filled donuts w/ food coloring; a bit boring to taste to me, BF-J, my sis, & our kiddie nieces/nephew...maybe some chocolate sauce would have givin' it more life. "Head Trauma" I'm kinda torn...donut itself was soft & fresh, icing was light on top yet sweet, but filling...eeh, think I've tasted better.
BLEEDING GOOD: "KeyLime" & "CookieMonster" SCRUM-DIDLY-UMPTOUS! Tasted exactly as it should to its name & should make this donut shop very proud!
GOING PSYCHO: Will I put on my "pleading record" to BF-J, or even my sister, to go back here for another 36-mile drive? Probably not, but if visiting the area I'll prob stop in (w/ my fingers crossed) hoping to try their Donut Fries ;-) Till next time I won't be going Psycho soon, but glad I made the trip once.

Do U know what the day after Halloween is? No..well here's my wish 2 u...
* Happy All Saint's Day *
Hmmm...finally was able to stop in. I am trying to figure out all the hype...maybe it was just a bad day.
We walked in, and only about half of the donuts were there to choose from. I have read the flavors are really good, but there is no description of them, just a name. Are we supposed to guess? And the chick there wasn't too friendly...certainly wasn't offering us any help in understanding the donuts.
Then she said to the two groups that were there (including us), "well, if you don't know what you want, I'll just sit down." Hmm...maybe we'd know what we'd want if you told us what this each one is that we are looking at? Really...it looks like just a donut with cereal or cookies on it, but I am guessing it has great special flavor, and I read that there is green tea ones and just awesome taste. But, wouldn't know that with the lack of assistance and no descriptions...anywhere.
Donut prices are around two bucks. Not bad.
So I finally revisted and got to indulge in the donut flavors that I've been highly anticipating for the longest time! I am a green tea fanantic and I seriously love anything green tea or green tea flavored. It's quite soothing to the soul actually :) When I came about a week ago to pick up some donuts for breakfast, I noticed that for once Psycho Donuts actually had a full stock of all their donuts! Now that's very rare, since their donuts get sold like hotcakes, but then again I came extremely early too.
I ended up getting the Feng Shui, Nutella the Hun, and the Cookie Monster. My absolute favorite was in fact the Feng Shui. I actually bought the other two donuts for my bf and mommy and they both seemed like they enjoyed their donuts as well.
I really like how the Feng Shui is not your average donut and has that matcha green tea powder taste with dark chocolate and chocolate chips. The combination of toppings totally balances out the total sweetness of the regular donut. My only complaint about the donut would be the donut wasn't too soft, even though the workers say it was fresh out of the oven at the time. Oh well, the green tea taste totally won me over!

HYYYYYYYYYYYPEEEEEEE.
Psycho donuts is a fun, whimsical twist on the ordinary donut, but they didn't quite satisfy me as much as I thought they would. Instead, I liked the actual donut shop more than the donut I had.
They were all out of the Cereal Killer (glazed donut with cap'n'crunch) so I settled for a Nutty Cookie Monster (glazed donut with oreo's and peanut butter). It was just okay. The donut wasn't fluffy or fresh and the oreos were somewhat stale. I'm thinking it's because we went at 4PM.
FACT: PSYCHO DONUTS TASTE BETTER IN THE MORNING! I asked the somewhat friendly/aloof/bored cashier how often they make new donuts, and she told me that a fresh batch is cooked up every morning. I bet if we went earlier in the day I would have had a 4-star experience.
INTERESTING/"PSYCHO" THINGS ABOUT THIS PLACE: They play movies on a flat screen, play scary music like Rammstein (scary German death metal) and Aqua (I'm a barbie girl...), they outfit their cashiers with nurse costumes, and you can play their electric guitar if you have 1 year of experience and are older than 16.
I thought all of that was pretty damn novel and funny. definitely points for thinking outside of the box.
Because each donut is only a buck .50 I wouldn't mind going back sometime to try some of the other ones. Until then, 3 stars!
I saw all these reviews and figured I had to go here especially since it was like 5 min from my house or less. We went at 6:15 or so on a Saturday and they still had quite a selection although some of the donuts were gone. We got a mood swing, some panda one and another one that had marshmallow, peanut butter and rice krispies on it. The favorite was the mood swing it was extremely good. Followed by the panda, the one with rice krispies was okay it was pretty plain to me. I wouldn't get it again.
Next time I babysit my little brother I'm bringing him here, he'd love it.
They had donuts with all kinds of cereal and candy on them, everything was really unique and fun. We'll definitely be coming back!
What a fun place Psycho Donuts is. When I walked in, a cute nursie girl gave me some bubble wrap. That's random and fun. They have the coolest donut creations and I hear they'll throw you in a straight jacket on occasion. LoL
The Donuts: The 2 I've tried were tasty. Unfortunately for me though, most are super sweet with crazy sweet stuff added so I'm limited because I prefer a more plain donut - like a glaze or cake. Luckily though, they usually have a couple to choose from for me and they have a Large selection for people with mega sweet tooths!
I'll be back next time I'm in the area and cravin a donut...
See ya there!
After looking at the pictures online, I was really excited to go here. But when we got there, the selection of donuts seemed a bit limited. I got the peanut flavored one, and it was alright. It was a bit stale.
Supposedly, they make their donuts in the morning and thats it. I would recommend going only in the morning, so your donut will still be fresh.
I love the doughnuts but hate the service! The first time I went in the girl behind the counter was texting and yelling at her phone. She then in an impatient tone asked me what I wanted. I had just walked in and was taken back by all the choices and would have like to at least have a minute or a suggestion, not a " can you hurry up so I can continue texting!" After I found one that I wanted she then asked before I even shut my mouth if that would be all. I felt so rushed and did not enjoy my experience. My suggestion, take your time with your customers and make them feel more welcomed.
We had the bananarama donut after the Oktoberfest. It was great! $2.00 and it was a chocolate donut with custard in it with banana chips on top that looks like a face (see photo). They run out of stuff, so better to get there earlier in the day when it is more fresh. Perfect for a Halloween party (see all Halloween themed donuts in photos).
This place is fun and cute. The blonde girl really loves her job (wearing a nurse outfit). The other girl was dressed up as well. Great service and it was fun seeing the creative donuts.
3.5 stars
Good donuts. Very creative, something different- not just your same ol' glazed donut. I do really like the Captain Crunch donut (more than I originally thought, cause my hubby and I found ourselves craving them one night after the place had closed, we were sad)
But, they are a bit more spendy than regular donuts and found that in fact the cereal does get a bit soggy, but that is to be expected as it is on a moist donut...just chemistry.
We will, I'm sure, be back and I plan on getting a dozen at some point for the office mates, maybe before Halloween!
I love the donuts here.
THe best part of this place is that they gave us free bubble wrap (that has never happened to me)
The donuts here are very good but come in the morning when they are fresh
As good as it gets for what seems to me after one visit as a novelty donut shop. Sadly I went there late at night and not early in the morning so the donuts didn't have that freshly immersed in transfatty oil yumminess about them. I ordered two donuts more or less at random and they were about 3 to 3.5 on the donut scale for taste. Although they have the yellow, bubbly kind of cake which tends to be rather bready - although I found their donuts to seem to be less bready tasting than sight would suggest.
I'd suggest they opt for a more cake like motif and for that matter smaller donuts. The donuts are mostly monstrously large and thus feed the "bready" problem. They don't have the freshness of say Krispy Kreme or the sophisticated delicacy of Tartine's pastries. I'm not sure what I was expecting - but it wasn't quite up to what I was hoping for. The donut counter person was indeed dressed as a nurse and was extremely pleasant and engaging (as opposed the usual mute and/or slightly irritated asian count people at donut houses in SF). They place was campy and... kitsch. No one played the guitar. The novelty was played up and it felt almost too reliant on it. I'm ok with novelty but I want it backed up with ball-tingling donut excellence. In their favor the banana and custard filleds were sold out and I suspect they'd have won me over.
So I'm going with a 5 as a hedge bet against my having made a mistake on the donut quality and for having just a bangin' silly motif they play up sufficiently well.
When my hubby mentioned that there was a joint around the corner from their current work site which sold "crazy concoction donuts" I already knew that at the very next opportunity, I was going to sample the goods. Upon approaching the counter, I noticed a rainbow of fantastic flavors. A wide selection, many of which were baked into sweet fluffy triangles. I haven't seen triangles so pretty since Kindergarten! Since my donut of choice is chocolate cake, I couldn't resist the Jekyll and Hyde, and ordered a Captain Crunch Triangle and a mildly dressed glazed donut for the kids. The quality and creativeness here trump any other donut shop I've been to in the Bay. You can expect to pay a bit more per donut than your average (between $1-$2.50 a piece) but well worth it. Cheers to Psycho Donuts for raising the donut bar!
Now I have been there enough times, I can definitely say that I am a fan. I love the new Strawberry Fields donuts and the one that I cannot remember the name of, but has butterfingers crushed all over it. MMMMM......
I have yet to try the Massive Head Trauma donuts, but I was looking for their website and came across what was an anti-P.D. site and they were complaining about the shops theme and specifically that donuts name. Now I must try one because of that. I have not been to war, but when I was little I fell many times and have much massive head Trauma (check out my scars- 50 stitches on my skull, stitches from being hit with croquet Mallet between the eyes, Nose partially severed from the center and reattached and more) and am perfectly OK. with the name.
The only thing I avoid here are anything with Pretzels on it. That is mainly because I am not a big fan of pretzels to begin with.
I think I'll go there today.
I was going to wait to review until I went back another time, but how could I resist being #200?
I can't stand really, really sweet desserts, so these donuts were a bit much for me, but the sig. other dug them, so I chalk that up under to each their own.
But really, who cares how the donuts taste. The fact that this kind of place exists is enough for five stars. It's like somebody with the balls (and cash) went out and opened one of those BAD IDEA kind of restaurants you always come up with with your friends.
You know like, "What if we opened a place that only served peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But it was like gourmet peanut butter." I mean, the costumes, the preposterous flavors, the guitar, it's like every second this place stays open requires a complete suspension of disbelief by the world.
Although I totally get how anyone suffering from a serious MI has the right not to take this flight of fancy.
I was initially excited to try this place because of the innovative idea. I drove all the way down to Campbell specifically to try this place...sat and ate for 5 min then drove all the way back. I was a bit disappointed. I feel that the innovative psycho theme is better than the doughnuts themselves. In agreement with Steve D's review below, the doughnuts were not fresh or fluffy, and the cookies on the doughnuts seemed a bit stale. I went during midday, so maybe it would have been better in the morning. I forgot the doughnut names, but I got one with nutter butter and another one with oreos on it. The doughnuts were good, but nothing spectacular. I prefer the plain ol' Krispy Kreme doughnuts over this. I give it kuddos for the creative idea of psycho themed setup, cashiers dressed in nurse outfits, and cute looking doughnuts.
My husband, friends, and family have come here many times in the last few months. We really enjoyed all the unique and different donuts.
Now I just went on the website to ensure I got the names right. And I noticed that some of the names have been changed.
My husband enjoys Head Trauma, Donut Fries, Smore's, and taking a bite of everyone's.
I enjoy the Bananarama. So tasty. And of course sneaking some bites from others.
The kids all enjoy the ones with cereal on them, and as much sugar and chocolate you can.
The store is great, the staff are really friendly, and we took from great pictures, check them out.
this place is psycho! psychify my donut with all combos you can think of! they have this one donut thats like a smore ... gooey goodness
wish this place had longer hours tho so i can get psycho with it anytime of the day
This place is genius. My sister brought a box of these down to me in Southern California. Clever donut concepts and very tasty too! I can't wait to get to the store myself.
Psycho Donuts is a great alternative for Krispy Kreme!
The "Psycho" basis is awfully awesome and creative!
It's inexpensive, there are tons of different donuts to choose from, and it will DEFINITELY give you a sugar overdose! :D
My favorites are... noses and eyeballs, glazed and confused, strawberry fields, and psycho panda! :o)
ENJOY YOUR VISIT AT PSYCHO DONUTS!!!
Good, not very good doughnuts...a bit of creativity...but really not wotrh talking about!
This place is pretty fun and a great idea. I love how they play up the 'psycho' element even to the extent of giving you a piece of bubble wrap to pop while you decide what to order!
We tried a selection of 7 donuts amongst a group of people. You really only need to try a little nibble of each one as they are very sweet.
The best one was the peanut butter oreo concoction in my book!
The name alone already gave this place high marks. "Psycho Donut - Open for Insanity" is written on their front door. Their selection of unconventional and unique donuts made this place standout and their hip-punk-style decore added to the originality of this quaint little donut shop.
Although most of the donuts gave me a toothache just looking at them (donuts topped with Captain Crunch, Marshmallows, Smores, etc.), the donut that most stuck out to me, which I ended up ordering, was their "Donut Burger" It's a non glazed donut topped with sesame seeds. Inside, you'll find crisp strips of bacon with strawberry jam. As strange (or delicious) as it sounds, the donut was really good. I had to be carefully mindful of what I was eating, and limit my intake to just one. I can see myself easily gaining weight by mindlessly eating these things which is not a hard thing to do if unchecked.
I will revisit this place again to experiment with their other donut selections. However, my stomach will only be able to handle one donut per visit.
OMG I am hurting.
I decided to come back this morning. Got there at 11:45am and wowzers, there was 98% of the menu on display. I even spotted a few that were off-menu.
My eyes became H U G E.
H U G E.
Fixated at all the choices, i finally stammered my three selections:
- Key Lime Pie: Delectable donut with a key lime glaze, topped with crumbled pie crust and a vanilla icing drizzle.
- S'mores: Square donut with marshmallow fluff, graham cracker pieces, and a decadent chocolate drizzle.
- Donilla: Sweet triangular donut with a vanilla icing glaze, topped with
three genuine Nilla® Wafers.
The Nurse behind the counter looked at me funny.
"Oh, um, I'm bringing these to work..." I says.
(All for ME though, hehehehe....)
I guess it's not common to order three donuts for yourself?
Well, maybe if they are these monsters.
I get to work and try the Key Lime Pie. You know what...it is fantastic. It's SUPER SWEET...but it's a great donut. I LOVE key lime pie, and this donut version was brilliant. An instant fave for me.
The S'mores? Um, I didn't enjoy it so much. It was SUPER SWEET, but also hard to eat. The donut is massive. Aside from the logistics, it was a once again a great donut on paper but in practice it was a bit too dry. The graham crackers were too big IMHO. I wish they crumbled them as they would do for the crust on the Keylime Pie. This donut was more about dry cracker than donut to me. Was ok, but I wouldn't order again.
The Donilla? Great. It had full size Nilla wafers, but the wafers were moister than the graham crackers which helped. This donut was SWEET, but not eye-twittering super sweet like the others. I thought this and the Key Lime Pie were the best donuts I've tried from Psycho so far.
Still gets five stars for unique factor.
I just won't eat three of their donuts in a row anymore. Gawdamn i'm so dizzy from a sugar high right now...but it hurts so good....

Since everyone at work is a donut hound, someone brought 'em into the office.
Though, I definitely give 'em in A+ for trying to think outside of the box; they just don't taste that great. The base doughnut itself fell flat, and tasted like cardboard.
The toppers that came with it, however, cereal, graham cracker, and various other hard toppings, aren't complementary to what are supposed to be soft and squishy doughnuts - hence the traditional cream and jelly fillings, syrupy toppings, and glazes that are supposed to melt in your mouth with the doughnut - rather than fruit loops that roll *off* of the doughnut!
...not to mention the bizzare flavors. It's kind of like mucking with an old formula that already works well.
...just gimme the custard.
Alright, I guess i'm just an old fashioned donut gal. I heard all the hype of this place and decided to check it out one day.
Within second of walking in, I quickly realize that this place def. made a name for themselves through their crazy creations. Like marshmellows or candy bits or other sweet treats on top. I think i got the rice crispy donut and don't get me wrong it was good, but i couldn't eat the whole donut. It was just way toooo sweet.
I mean, it's a cool place, but when it comes to donuts, i prefer the old school stuff. you know what I mean?
The vegan donuts are delicious. Much better than a certain vegan donut company based in Oakland.
The 5th star is forthcoming upon the arrival of more vegan flavors.
So I decided to give this place one more shot. But before I did, I actually reached out to the people in charge of this place and sent them an email just to raise some of my concerns. My email was politely honest and tried my best to give them the benefit of the doubt. Within 24 hours, I received an email response! Talk about customer service. I was really, really impressed. He did address all of my concerns and questions while thanking me for taking the time to write to him. In fact, he even made a change to the menu based upon my suggestion. Wow!
What did I uncover since my first review?
* The donuts are made fresh daily. They start the process at about midnight.
* The cereal on the donuts are fresh, however, when they come in contact with the donut icing it somehow changes the texture and crunch factor. If you do want to try a cereal donut, be sure to get them early in the morning.
* If you get the donut fries, these need to be heated in the microwave for about 15 minutes. They should also come with "ketchup" or "mayo".
What did I try that was new?
Although I stayed away from the cereal donuts, I did try a few new ones.
* Although I am not a big fan of chocolate cake donuts, I really did enjoy the Nutella one. The chocolate flavoring in the donut and icing was perfect!! This might be my favorite. Don't let the rainbow sprinkles fool you, it's a gourmet chocolate donut.
* I also tried the hamburger one. That was good too. Imagine a jelly donut cut in half and garnished with two strips of bacon. The donut is them topped with sesame seeds. Perhaps it could have used a bit more jam, but it was really good.

This place is the best. I am always welcomed by a smile and a nurse with a happy disposition. They are very patient with new people who take 3 hours to decide what they want. All of the donuts are very good, and I like the fact they sell Mexican Coke, pure sugar cane, tastes like the good ol'days.
Wonderful. Original. Inspired. Deeeelicious.
I'm heartened that this place exists and my generation is now preprared to lead us into a Bold New World. I can only contribute a slogan for Psycho Donuts that I hope they steal:
"Because You Can't Fuck a Cupcake"
All they need is an Eric Joyner painting on the wall of robots fighting donuts.
Typically, I am not a sweets person, but after seeing this place several times on way back home from work I decided to give them a try. I was completely blown away! Never has a donut shop impressed me as much as they have, as the quality of the donuts and the coffee to make it a superior place for an early morning snack.
BTW....
Who ever thought to put Capt. Crunch on top of a soft, tender glazed donut is a F$%KING Genius!! God bless psycho donuts in Campbell....which is quite possibly the only redeeming quality about that foul evil city!!!
A little underwhelmed.
I had high hopes for Psycho donuts thinking it could be the bay area's version of Voodoo donut in Portland. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
When we arrived, the place was smaller than I expected. They had sold out of a bunch of donuts, and the ones we did get were just ok.
The donut dough itself wasn't particularly tasty. Just regular toppings on regular donuts. But they look kinda cool.
Banana cream pie http://static4.px.yelp...
S'moreos donut http://static3.px.yelp...
They have limited seating so it's not really a good place to hang out and eat your donut with some milk or an Olde English 40.
After the kitchiness wears off I wonder what Pyscho is going to do?
Decided to try out the donuts after having some friends tell me how good it was, the Green Tea donut was delicious and the Donut fries where an awesome ending to breakfast. I will be going back to try out the Donuts hamburger and Fries meal.
I have been remiss in my review duties and some of my favorite haunts have suffered for it.
I love the Psycho Donuts. I love it. I love it for not being a chain. I love it for opening despite crap economic times. I love it for not being the same old thing, cold served from unimaginative zombies. Most of all, I love the donuts that inject a little mirth into the world for those open to it. GET OPEN TO IT. Donuts make the world a happier place. That's good for EVERYBODY.
Our family are big fans and among all of us, I think we've tried just about all of the different kinds. The Do-Nilla is a favorite, as is the Feng shui, but they have all been tasty. Some are better than others, for sure. My monsters love the donut fries as well. I LOVE THE APRICOT FRITTERS. I'm just going to get that out in the open.
I've brought assortments of psycho donuts to my office, to little league games, all over the place and people have been universally delighted. It's just SOMETHING DIFFERENT, which is harder to come by than some might imagine. My kids now bring boxes of psycho donuts to share with their classmates at school for their birthdays.
My only qualm is that there is sometimes a somewhat limited selection. We went at 10am on a Saturday a couple weeks ago and about half the trays were empty. Bummer, cus we were meeting friends from out of town there to show off the yums. Other than that that, all stars and happy faces.
Bleh, I've tried better donuts. If you're going to get creative with toppings and fillings, the base donut shouldn't be forgotten. The donuts didn't really didn't taste that great considering a plain glazed donut starts at $1.00 and then go from $1.50-2.50. These are donuts as cupcakes.
The shop was clean, the concept is clever and the service friendly however.
Verdict: If you're going to charge $1.00-2.50 per donut, they better be good more than clever. In this case, they sadly aren't.
This is the best donut shop in Campbell. With all the "controversy" from the folks that can't recognize a clever marketing scheme in the press recently, something that often gets overlooked is the fact that the donuts here are FANTASTIC!
I try to get here as often as I can, but due to the limited hours I miss them sometimes. If you have the chance, by all means give them a visit. Great place to hit if you have the munchies. (You know who you are... ;-) )
The staff is super cool, and don't be afraid to ask them for their suggestion. I tried the Key Lime based on their suggestion--a flavor I would typically never touch--and wasn't disappointed.
On a side note, I think the logo is super cute. I wish they did something about their website though; all that Flash animation crashes my browser and runs real slow.
PS: Please support your local businesses, especially the good ones.
I am a donut fiend. It's a good thing I eat so few, else my ever-slowing 35-year-old metabolism would ensure a cardiac arrest in no time flat.
I read about Psycho Donuts in Campbell today in the SJ Mercury News. I mean, it's a "themed" donut shop with a staff wearing nurses uniforms! How is this possibly a bad thing?
First off, the "ambiance" of the place is really nice - if Tim Burton and Danny Elfman ever went into the donut business, the place might look something like this shop. Lots of nifty, bizarre art on the walls. Bright, gaudy colors. Funky music. "Napoleon Dynamite" playing on the TV.
They have some very funky donut combinations. But for me, the barometer of a donut shop is the glazed donut.
The current king of donuts in the Bay Area is Stan's Donuts in Santa Clara. Awesomest glazed evar.
Psycho Donuts' glazed is unfortunately remarkably pedestrian in its taste. It wouldn't surprise me if they use the same mix that almost all independent donut shops use. It was OK. The donut sold for $1, though, which puts it more expensive than Stans, which has a far superior product.
Still, the "nurse" gave me a bit of bubble wrap to play with while she filled my order (sign on the menu board: "Date with a nurse ... Priceless!"), and it was a fun experience, such as it was. It's neat to see people taking the donut in interesting directions.
But they need a better glazed, man...
