I may be padding the rating of this place, but I've spent so much time here that knowing the staff as I do, and treating this place as a home, it's either a really good place to stay, or I have Stockholm syndrome.  Having spent a year and a half of my life here, I've gotten to know very much about this place.  The staff are fantastic, the rooms are clean, and I guess that's what you want from any hotel.

The Marriott in Providence Rhode Island is by far one of the better in the franchises in the Marriott family.  A nice twenty minute walk from the downtown core, you're able to access not only the shops and restaurants easily, but the highways and freeways to take you about the state.  Once inside the hotel you're faced with a decent size lobby, a great bar to close off the night, and a fantastic restaurant in the Bluefin Grille (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  If you go at the right time, there'll be apples waiting for you at the counter at reception.  If you go at an even better time, there'll be cookies.  How cool is that?

Once you get enough Marriott points, you get to go to the lounge that will give you breakfast in the morning as well as appetizers and drinks in the evening.  I spent enough time in this hotel to make it to that level.  Thank God for small comforts.  I once locked my key in my room, and had to go to reception to get a new one.  Since I knew the staff, I declared I needed a new key under the last name "Dumbass".  They laughed.  I laughed.  It's nice to feel at home.

Nice place starting to show age, No hot water on a saturday morning. Waited and waited and still no hot water.  Room cleaned and only one bath towel left in room.

This Marriott is also known as the Providence Marriott Downtown.  It's less than a mile's walk from the downtown area.  There is another Marriott (Courtyard) that is closer, but this one is less expensive.

The rooms are a good size and they have an indoor/outdoor pool.  The area around the pool outside is gorgeous.

The hospitality at this hotel is top notch. Given that I assume all people from New England are rude I was surprised that the staff was so warm and welcoming. The food at the BlueFin restaurant was top notch. Fresh seafood and interesting combinations. The room was clean but the bath tub and heating unit were moldy. There is a trolly stop outside that will take you around to all the sites. Parking is free.

This is a lovely hotel, pretty posh and such.  Stayed here for a wedding...the beds were comfy, nice toiletries in the bathroom...looks like they have a great pool...wish I could remember more about it but the drink caught hold of me, and never let go, turning me into a karate chopping, pillow fighting, whiskey spilling mess.

This hotel was nice, but there were a lot of small problems with our room that added up to a mildly annoying experience, especially considering that the room was nearly $200/night.

For example, there were little things missing/broken in the room: we had only one (small) trash can in the main room, which made it difficult to dispose of waste in the bathroom;  the liner was missing from the ice bucket, so getting ice from the machine was somewhat dirty; there were no bedside lamps even though there were holes in the backboard of the bed where it looked like lamps should go; there was no "do not disturb" sign for putting on the door in the mornings, and there was only a half a roll of toilet paper and no spare rolls.  Each of these is small by itself, but it added up to a lot of annoying inconvenience.  Furthermore, the sliding door of the closet was off of its track so the closet couldn't be opened without having the door fall over and back against the opposite wall/counter.  Finally, every time someone in a room above us flushed their toilet it made a LOUD "plunking" noise that would wake us up in the middle of the night.

In general, the hotel was very clean and in a decent location, but I would hope that there are better values for the price elsewhere in Providence.
