It is probably ironic that I would be writing a review for a tattoo shop based on my experience getting a tattoo *removed,* but it has been a five-star experience thus far and I think that is worthy of a moment of my time to spread the gospel about Propaganda Tattoo for more than getting new ink -- they also remove ink!

I started this process early in the summer (to remove a tattoo I got when I was 21 and dumb... not done at Propaganda) and am about halfway through the removal schedule and so far, very good! My arm band tattoo of tree frogs was very bright green (the most difficult color to remove -- just my luck!) and yellow with some black outlining and after three sessions over the last four months, it is almost unrecognizable with just patches of green left that need to be zapped.

The artists at Propaganda Tattoo do amazing tattoo work, but the owners have expanded their services to offer a full-service barber shop (Pappy's -- also HIGHLY recommended) and laser tattoo removal. They have partnered up with one of San Diego's best-known tattoo removal doctors and in the back of the shop, there is a small room dedicated to removing even  the most regrettable ink. They have tested out a handful of the newest technology lasers and a Registered Nurse or the doctor are the ones operating the machine, so fear not!

The space is very clean, the equipment is brand new and everyone is very calm and casual. You can choose to ice or get a topical anesthetic on your skin, or just tough it out like the badass you know you are. (Either way, IT HURTS... there is no getting around that part! Luckily, once the laser is finished popping the ink, the pain is over and you are left with just some soreness and maybe a few blisters for the next few days. It is worth every moment of pain, I think, for the result!)

This is not a quick process (especially with greens and blues), but if you are prepared to face the temporary pain and can commit to coming in once every 4-6 weeks until the tattoo is either light enough for a respectable cover-up or completely removed, this is the place to go. They are really reasonable on pricing (I couldn't find another SAFE, CLEAN place that came close to their prices) and the doctor and RN are both really easy-going.

No formal doctor's office where they "tisk-tisk" you for getting a tattoo you no longer love -- just professional, kind and gentle medical staff in a super-cool tattoo shop you'll want to hang out in after your appointment is over.

My favorite part: The waiting area in the front of the tattoo parlor is great for people watching and daydreaming about your next tattoo, once that lame one you hate is gone and more skin space is available for fresh ink!

I just got my first tattoo done by John here. Super professional, knows his stuff. And given it was my first tattoo I was a bit nervous, but John was great about being upfront about the whole process and it just went really smooth.I couldn't have imagined a better experience AND a great tattoo. I'd definitely recommend this shop to all my friends & I will be returning soon for another tattoo :)

Great shop!!! Very talented artists here. They all do very solid tattoos. Cool layout and design inside. They have an old-school barber shop in the back doing some fresh cuts. I got a laser removal session done here and it was top notch with professionals and the top of the line equipment. Come here to remove some tattoos, or better yet come get tattoos done right so you don't have to laser and a fresh cut to set you proper. Propaganda is up on their game and doing it right.

I went here with my best friend to go get his first tattoo. Now if you have read my previous review of a certain tattoo shop that was raved about by almost everyone in San Diego you would know how miserably they failed.

Well, where they failed, Propaganda Tattoo out did themselves. Their staff was awesome and friendly and while my mate was getting his ink. I was planning out mine. They even let me use their computer to print out the image of what I wanted.

I have not made it back in to get the work done as of yet...but I will be soon. Travis is who I will be going to get my work done with. He did an amazing job on my friends tattoo.

Once I get the ink, my review should go from 4 stars to 5.

Ask for John - his artwork is amazing.  The shop itself is very clean, the staff is nice and it's in a good location.  Might need to try getting a haircut here lol.

It was my birthday and I wanted to treat myself to a new tattoo. With my 23rd fast approaching I called up Sake who works out of Propaganda because I've seen and heard good things.

He only works there two days a week and the day my birthday fell on wasn't one of them. I only had that day off from work, so I started to feel bummed out about putting my birthday present on hold since I don't feel right just going to anyone. Sake came to the rescue and volunteered to come in on my birthday and hook me up with some san skrit on my shoulder.

We messed around with placement a couple times and the other artists were friendly enough to put in their two cents. When I decided it was perfect we got to it.  It was quick and easy and it came out stunning. I didn't get some huge piece done, but I just really appreciate how much Sake catered to my schedule and how comfortable I felt at the shop.

Also, the shop is super clean and right across from CVS which made it easy for me to walk on over to get some aquaphor. That shit is slimy but it stings a hell of lot less than Lubriderm, which I've used on my other tattoos.  Good lookin out Sake!
