AWESOME BEERS while you dance... FREAKING AWESOME.  I just focused on the Banana Bread Beer, and the Hitachino Japanese beers!!

Their mixed drinks suck after coming from Chapter One, but fun dancing and music.  I was with a bunch of people so I didn't care to much that the CROWD was 75% ALL DUDES, but still had fun regardeless!

A-okay. We got in on a Saturday night around 10pm with no problems... just a hand stamp.

The bar was  a little crowded but I wormed my way up to order a drink for myself and a friend.  Their drinks were decently priced and were actually pretty tasty... the alcohol was definitely present.  They don't skimp on that.

We hung out by the DJ table area by the dance floor.  It was pretty slow at first, but a few people started to dance and others joined in.  Some random girls in the corner taking countless pictures of themselves doing "sexy poses" was a little annoying, but I'm sure that's not something that normally happens.

Bathrooms are located in the back.  They keep the back door open... and it was pretty cold that night.  So ladies, if you don't wanna freeze your booty off, stay in the middle of the bar.

They do have seats/tables up against the sides for those who get there a little earlier.  By the time we showed up, they were all gone.  But the DJ stand had some room so we just shoved our purses there and had a good time on the dance floor.

This place was a nice change from the basic DTF experience... lots of ghetto people in a crowded space. The crowd here was so diverse and it was nice to see.  People watching would be fun in a place like this, if that's your thing.

Definitely a place to start your night... then head somewhere else. :)

    ** Nightlife Review **

To be fair, I don't like house music so I guess it's hard for me to like Proof since that's all they usually play, but why I give them 2 stars isn't just because of that. This place is always packed. Sardines packed. And I really don't understand why. Their dance floor is right if front of the hallway to the restroom which makes it a mission to use it. Their patio doesn't allow you to have drinks, despite it being enclosed and behind the bar. WTF? So you're force to either chug your drink or leave it on a ledge right before the door, but come on, that's just a rufi waiting to happen. The bartenders however are quick. And they do pour their drinks stiff. But the overall atmosphere of Proof's nightlife is just not something I would have any interest of being a part of.

Too small, too loud and too hot. I'll pass.

Dude.  What happened to Proof?  It used to be a hip place to socialize and dance... Now any bum, wearing shoes and a ball cap, can walk in.  Bring back a dress code and be a little classy again!!  **Proof only gets 3 stars because it's the only place in the area with a dance floor

I'm a bit disappointed with Proof Bar. It's a bit of a small bar, the crowd was mostly latino with a baker's dozen worth of Asians, the DJ mixed Top 40s, & the drinks were made poorly.

I'm pretty sure I went on a night when a new bartender was working or....a bartender who fails at her job was working. I asked for one of their specials & she literally turned the menu around to see what was in the drink. I was shocked, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt until I actually tasted it & was sorely disappointed. It was horrible & I asked her to remake it for me because all I could taste was pure alcohol when the drink sounded like one of those umbrella drinks. She gave me attitude when I told her it was a bit too strong for my liking claiming that that was the way it should taste. Not sure about that since she checked the ingredients that were listed on the menu, so I'm going to go ahead & assume that she also just made up the amount of each ingredient as well.

My other friends also had issues with her drink making too, but again, this is one bump in the night. I'm sure the regular bartenders do a way better job than this woman.

Biggest perk? No cover! I'll adventure down there again one of these days; hopefully the bartender that's working will actually know what they're doing.

Oh Proof. You were a fixture in my life in my early 20s, and now approaching my late 20s, I find myself here again once in awhile.

Your beer selection has grown, and adding the extra lounge area downstairs was a good move seeing how packed you get.

Stiff drinks, great prices, great ambiance (it seems it has grown swankier)--what more can I ask for in a bar?

Might I add they have a couple of their own in-house creations-- give it a try and you will not regret.

One of my favorite places to be in the downtown Santa Ana district. Though I've only gone on mostly Saturday nights, you can definitely bet I've had fun every single time.

Parking is pretty easy to find. There's a structure on between 4th/3rd and Broadway. It's free, but if there's an event going on, it's actually $4. You can easily find Proof by heading down Broadway away from 3rd Street and it'll be on the same side as Chapter One: The Modern Local and The Copper Door, a little before Memphis Cafe and The Gypsy Den.

One of my favorite things about Proof is that there's no cover. If you get in around 10, you won't have to wait at all. Get there at around 11...you're gonna be waiting for a bit. This place gets packed. Trust.

The bar itself is pretty small. It's like one room - a few bar top tables, the bar along the right side of the room. There's tons of art work on the wall and they have a big tv, that usually has some movie playing. Once you walk past the bar, there's a veryyy small area for people to dance at and there are also couches along the wall as well. Go past the restrooms, there's a small alley where you can smoke and just chill at. There's actually somewhat of a basement area as well. Sorta a smaller dance floor with couches and what nots down there. The last couple of times I've been to Proof, it's been closed though. Maybe it's opened on other nights I guess.

I love going to this place. I always have a good time. The drinks are moderately priced, but they make them stronggggggg. I don't think I've ever walked out of Proof sober - just sayin'. The music that's spinnin' is always good. When I was there celebrating my birthday on 12/3, it was a lot of 90s throwback. Definitely some good stuff. Sorta depends on the dj they have the night you're there, but I've had no complaints for them.

The crowd that goes here is sortaaaaaaa diverse. People can get really rowdy though. When I was there for my birthday, I got pulled into three different fights. Some people just can't handle their alcohol.

Anyways, definitely hit this place up. There are tons of other bars in the area as well, so if it's not crackin' enough for you, just simply walk along the street and you'll end up at another one. However, if you do end up staying the whole time, there's usually a food truck that's parked right outside of it. I've managed to try new food trucks after a night of drinking here such as Sexy Burger and Burger Monster - both were AMAZING.

    Karaoke on Monday nights.

    Sold!

I'm kind of curious what this place looks like with a weekend crowd. But then again, not really. A mostly empty bar on a Monday night with excellent service, a friendly bartender, and open privileges with the karaoke machine made for a great evening.

I'm not sure how this place is keeping it's doors open. I just passed by on Friday night after HH at the Crosby and it was pretty deserted. Then I was there for a Monday night Karaoke event (to support a friend) and the crowd was super pretentious and on the small side. $5 for a Guinness... Not worth it... Even the people watching is mediocre.

3.5 stars!  Came here over the weekend and unfortunately it was the wrong weekend to come to downtown Santa Ana.  There was a huge Dia De Los Muertos festival going on in the area, so the streets were packed with people and parking lots were crammed with cars.

A bunch of us started off our night at Chapter One, moved over to The Copper Door and ended the night at Proof.

Proof never charges a cover.  The place gets packed around 11pm.  The DJ was playing a pretty good mix of hip hop with some old stuff that I haven't heard in ages.  He definitely got people out on the dance floor.  The only downside that night was that they were only accepting cash at the bar since their credit card machines weren't working.  So, some of my friends had to find an ATM nearby.  Other than that, it was a FUN night.  :)

I have mixed feelings about this place. I enjoy it when it's not SUPER packed with college kids. I'm not into the music they play here, but on weekday nights, I don't mind coming here for a few drinks to talk to friends. I like their basement space and think it adds coolness to the bar. Drinks are averagely priced...and pretty stiff!

    - No cover
    - DJs always spinning
    - can get REALLY  crowded REALLY quick
    - decent place to dance if you like that kind of music

Ok so we decided to book our NYE event here because it had the cheapest cover with the nicest atmosphere. That was a great decision. We got bottle service and it was so affordable I felt like we were stealing. Joey, the manager/owner is super legit and made a wonderful effort to accommodate all of our needs. We had two bottles and a huge "U" shaped leather couch for $350.... that's ridiculously awesome. Doing the math (and Joey told us) you basically are paying just for the liquor - it would be the same price if you bought your drinks at the bar - and then they just throw in a super plush couch to plop down on! Balla! I cannot gush enough about the customer service :) Only downside was that it, again, was not very busy till close to midnight.

I did not like this bar at all maybe because it was being a poser and trying to act like a club?! I'm serious I went casual only to find out that a lot of girls were dressed all skanky. Talk about feeling under dressed.

The bathrooms were really small. The small square used to dance was crowded so me and my friend were kinda standing toward the edge getting in the way of the people going to the restroom. It's not like it mattered because I really wasn't digging the music they were playing, it was house or electro, no clue. Plus, there weren't any attractive people whatsoever. Bummer.

The best part was that parking was free right next to the place. Giant structure, you can't miss it. I will probably go again, but only if I'm really lazy and refuse to drive to L.A.

no cover.  that's always a plus in my book.

strong dranks!  my jack and coke was pretty much a jack on the rocks.  not complaining though!  ;)  a couple of those had my buzz going on pretty strong all night long.

they played top 40 splashed with some house and electro music.  good stuff, got me going through the night.  i went on a friday night, so i don't know if electro music is the staple for friday nights only???

as for parking, there's a parking structure not too far from this place.  i believe it costs 2-3 bucks to park.  OH! and watch out for the po-pos.  they infest the street!

if you are reading this far, kudos to you.  you have a better attention span than i do.  but that's not saying much since i usually get distracted by shiny objects and the buzzing of the mosquito.

It really depends on which night you go. So this review is solely for their SATURDAY nights.

After drinking it up in Costa Mesa and having to put up with the loud obnoxious guy next to us, I decided to end the night with some more drinking at Proof.

+ Entry: My friend and I arrived at 1 a.m. The line moved quick and there were no hold ups at the door. Easy enough.

+ Bar: We immediately hit up the bar and ordered our drinks. A chilled patron shot and tequila sunrise for me, and a long island for my friend. The bartender did not skimp on the alcohol, great! Because I was looking for a GOOD buzz.

    - Crowd: The place was packed. The crowd was predominantly Hispanic. Both girls and guys were quite rude. You really have to push your way to get through. The guys here have no regard as to whether or not you came with a guy. They walked right in between us and tried to hit me up. No thanks. One, I'm taller than 99% of everyone here and two, I'm not into the cheesy pick ups. So ladies, be prepared to be looked at like a piece of meat. Everyone here looks like they got dressed by the cast of Jersey Shore. It also seemed like they got dancing lessons from them too. All this dry humping and jersey "turn-pikes" made me want to barf. What happened to good, clean, dancing? Good gracious. I had to end the night with an Adios to purposely blur my vision.

If you can get pass the crowd, there are two things that you should come here for...

    + Music
    + Drinks.

Tips: Go with good company. Drink up. Throw your elbows to get space.

Will I be back? Sure. The place itself is decent. Maybe I should try another night...

It had beer- but I kind of dont like a place that doesnt have taps...especially if they dont have food either, because then it just seems like you should be at home drinking a beer.
This is a cool space and has a lot to show during the daytime as there are several old sky lights.
The bar tender was playing jenga when I arrived with my two friends- this was a surprising thing to see, no shame in admitting how slow a bar can be at four in the afternoon.
They did have a good bottle selection- I had a Fullers London Pride- which I always like.
with so many other options around I am sure this place would win based only on some type of music group playing or dj.

It really depends on what you're looking for and who you're with.  Proof bar has a bigger dance floor than some of the other bars in the area, if you're down to gangsta boogie.  Drink prices are average and you have to fight for space when it's peak hours, especially the weekends.

Line can be long if you're trying to get in around 11pm, we were lucky to have Mr. Nate the Great with us this evening who knows most bouncers, bartenders and cops in the area so it was a VIP access night that I don't remember of towards the end of the night.

I went to just dance and it played decent music. Would I come here and pay probably not. No worries, there is no cover!

It get's very crowded and hot but there plenty of spaces to sit and rest your feet at least.

The crowd is diverse, the location is in a good spot. I do think the drinks are a lil pricey but i would only come here to dance really. I feel there are better places in OC to go to if you really want to plan a night out.

I went to Proof Bar last night with my sister and a bunch of her friends.  I had been to this place once before for a Yelp event and thought it was a cool place.  There was a line outside when we arrived, but our group ended up getting in for free - it's always nice when you can bypass the cover charge :)  Tonight, it was pretty packed with a good crowd, and the music was loud, but great for dancing.  I was going to get a Midori Sour drink, but my sister's friend recommended that I try the Amaretto Sour drink instead, so I did, and it turned out tasting very good - I think I will get that drink again in the future.  Overall, Proof is a cool place to hang out at if you're looking for some late night drinks, music and dancing!

What I love about this place:

They really know how to show you a good time and make you feel special.  My friends took me here as a large party for my birthday.  They went out of their way to make sure it was a happy one.  From free birthday shots, shout outs from the DJ, AND the owner giving me a birthday gift!!! How sweet are they!  It was organic soap and a candle that smells absolutely divine.

    More pros:
    1. Parking on the street was free!
    2. no cover!
    3. good DJ
    4. reasonably priced drinks
    5. friendly crowd

Thank you Proof Bar and company... you made my night memorable =)

I would give this bar 3.5 stars but it's not an option.

There's a small parking garage nearby so parking isn't a big deal.

This was my first time there tonight, but I thought it was okay. When I got there, the place was EXTREMELY packed (mostly Asians) which was a bit much because the place itself is pretty small and it made it get stuffy pretty fast. My friends told me that it usually isn't that crowded though. I only stayed in the bar area but apparently there's another part of the place that serves as a small dance floor with a pretty good DJ.

Appearance wise, the bar is small but it has cute lighting and a clubbish feel. It was tough to get the bartender's attention because there were so many people. Always be aggressive and make sure you know what you want.

I was able to get a Adios drink, shot of patron, Jäger bomb, and a buttery nipple. 3 of those were mixed drinks and they were made well. Prices are average ($7-$10). Bartenders are pretty nice.

I would go here with a small group of friends. I liked it enough to go there again, but I wouldn't want it to be as crowded as it was that night.

I have party at Proof couple of times after the Santa Ana ArtWalk and this past Halloween (MONDAY!) and so far this place have never disappointed me.

Proof is nice with a really young and unpretentious crowd.
    Good-swanky ambiance and eclectic music.

Great decoration and art for sale on their walls
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Drinks are good! (dangerous) must of the times I tend to drink beer and they have a good selection.

Mondays are karaoke night, this Halloween (10/31) was Monday so we decided to celebrate there and it was GREAT! I didn't dare to sing but karaoke night was cool and there were not people trying to show off

too bad Tuesday 11/1 was right around the corner...

I even saw El Patron (the boss) at the door http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I  wouldn't recommend this place for a first date *LOL*
but I'll definitely recommend it to hang with friends or to celebrate birthdays, they have a pretty neat basement  that can be reserved for large parties and celebrations.

I came here on a Saturday night.  The music really sucked for me.  If you're into songs and soundtracks from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, then come here Saturdays because that's all they seem to play all night, ugh.  Either that or some lame hip hop music.

It was a very diverse crowd surprisingly which I liked.  It's not one of those bars that's just full of hispanics or full of asians.  The place is very casual and fun....with a small dance floor.  A bar AND a dance floor?  A girl like me can't complain about that!  The crowd is just really different though, the dancing is also different which I'm not used to.

I just hate the music here on Saturdays.  I just do.

There was a Kogi truck out front most of the night - not that it's something to scream and jump around about.

Our 3rd and last stop this Saturday night is only a block away from our 2nd stop - The Crosby - conveniently enough!  Parking in the free lot in between the two places made it easy to go between.

The place was pretty packed when we got there, but access to the bar was pretty easy.  Fia R and Sarah A tried one of the Yelp Drinks OC drink specials, but this non drinker stayed away from all things alcoholic!

The dance floor got more and more packed and hot as the night wore on, and by the time we saw 1am, I had had enough of the sweaty bodies invading my personal space - aaaaack.....

After a brief break for cold air on the back patio - which was actually only intermittently fresh because it's also the smoking patio - we called it a night and headed out.

The music was good, and even though I preferred the crowd at The Crosby, I'd come back again to hang out with friends - and have more fun non-dinking!!

No cover and easy parking in a nice area (either on the street or in a parking structure) sweetens the deal. The last time I came here, the Kogi truck was even parked right outside of Proof!

The bar can get pretty crowded on a weekend night, but there's an outdoor area where you can escape and get some air. I've been here on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday now, and I have found a quite eclectic crowd (though on the Hipster side) each time, of different ethnicities and different "styles." On Thursday night, this seems to be the go-to-place for Kaba Modern or something. Their dancing can be fun to watch but rather discourages other people's less skilled dancing :(

One time when I came (a Friday night), one room was set up as a studio, with photos as "proof" of our stay here. It was fun!

The drinks here are decent...pretty nicely priced but nothing blew me away yet..I did have a neon blue drink that was cool because it glowed. As far as music, well--it can be a hit and miss. This is probably the only place that will play Star Wars music for you to dance to...without you asking for it. It may take some creativity on the dance floor to keep up with the music, as it can be quite weird at times. When I came here last Saturday night, they started off with obscure music and moved onto more Top 40 type hits as the dance floor filled up (around 12am or so).

What I appreciate here the most is the nice crowd and the decor of the bar...it's quite pleasing to the eyes. It's got cool lights, interesting paintings, cushy seats, and strange media clips projected onto the walls (once we saw racey animal cartoons...).

Must have been Azn night when we came here 'cause you seriously cannot move without bumping into an Asian lol

Pretty laid back bar with a dance floor and good music. Or at least the DJ wasn't spinning Top40, not that there's anything wrong with that but it's pretty awesome that he had some nice songs in his playlist.

    No cover!
Park in the structure for free if you leave late enough!

On a Friday night, my husband and I were walking down the street in downtown Santa Ana and saw this bar as we passed by.  I talked him into going in as it looked desolate and might be a good bar in need of patrons.

The bartender, who was female, asked us what we wanted to drink.  I asked if she had any fun martinis.  She "hmmmmed" for a bit, and then said no.  So  because my husband saw a 12-year old Scotch on the shelf, he ordered two drinks for $10 each.

After she served the drinks, I asked what kind of bar was it based on the music that was playing.  I couldn't remember what kind of music it was called.  She said it was rock and roll.  I said no, it wasn't rock and roll, it was alternative.

The bartender became argumentative with us.  She complained to what appeared to be friends of hers, the only other two people in the bar, and one of the guys kicked his bar stool over and threatened us.

We left, without finishing our drinks.

Not worth visiting.  The bartender was a bitch, the other two people visiting were assholes, no food, and dismal atmosphere.

There were a couple of other bars in the area that you should consider visiting instead, if you want to have fun:  Bistro 400, Memphis, and Chapter 1.

    Bookmarked since forever!
I finally went and I regret not going sooner.

You see, Santa Ana feels like some faraway, unknown land to me.
    Not anymore.

No cover. Awesome music that isn't Top 40 (thank goodness!)
    Strong, cheap drinks.

And what's up with the Asian crowd that night? I fit right in LOL!

Why this place doesn't get better ratings I just don't know. Guess I'd have to read those particular reviews to see what all the fuss is about. Every time I've been here I've had nothing but a good time. The bartenders both men and women are all so nice pouring pretty decent drinks with charisma and charm, the bouncers are all nice and friendly, they've got art from local artists on the walls, and have great music being spun by local talented DJs...not to mention Dos Chinos stops by serving up some great fusion food to those getting inebriated or just hungry for some delicious grub!

A buddy of mine and I were in last Friday and arrived about an hour before Happy Hour was to end. We started lining em up and killin em quickly, met this cool dude from Bolivia that we started rappin it down with, started doing shots of tequila, and a couple of trips to the restroom to pay the water bill later and I was politely asked to leave by one of the bouncers. He was totally cool and respectful about it. He not only went in to close out my bill for me, but also brought me a bottled water for the ride home! Stupid drunk Chadams. All in all I had a great time with no complaints and got out of there for less than $30 bucks!

Cool place. Strong drinks. Good music. Interesting videos playing on the TV set. Went there on a Thursday night, and it started getting hot after 11:30 PM. By 1 AM it was alive! There's no cover, which is cool, but I wonder how much that factors into the number of predatory guys that were present. I would probably go again for a shorter period of time and with a larger group...to keep the creeps at bay.

It's been a while since I've been to Proof and Monday night Karaoke was one of the Yelp regular events I used to come for. It went away for a while but is now back again and this time the sound system has improve so much it actually is worthwhile to go and get your song on.

I came here for the Japan Relief Fundraiser organized by Marian and even with a pretty good crowd things did not get crazy. That was one of the reasons I stopped going to Proof because in the past, when there was a large crowd things got so chaotic and it felt very uncomfortable in there.

Music selection was great all night. I'm definitely gonna come back again!

I've recently discovered the trendy wonder of Downtown Santa Ana. Proof was the first place we hit. And guess what? We were the first people there for the night. Don't go before 10! You will be alone with the bartenders... which was not a bad thing, ours was a cool chick. She chatted with us for a while, made us some Stoli Blueberry and Seven drinks, they were tasty and strong. They played some pretty eclectic music. I defintely give the atmosphere an A+. Tall ceilings, dark, some cool art and leather loungey sofas.

Once the people started trickling in, we noticed that we were pretty underdressed. People actually made quite an effort to look good here. The place started filling up quick and by eleven, like the bartender said, the place was bangin. We left at that point and went next door to Copper Door.

Cute place, not dying to go back but the 4 stars is for the sweet bartender and the awesome atmosphere (which always makes your night and drink experience that much better).

DJ pleeaasse stop repeating your songs. I've been here several times on Fridays and Saturdays and music here was never that great. A lot of radio songs, repeats or house/trance. But hey if you go with a fun group of people you'd have fun no matter where it is.

    * The artwork and pictures on the walls are nice and sexy.
    * Drinks vary on the pourer.
    * I'd come back to party with friends
