so i stopped in the other night for a sporadic late-evening drink with another neighborhood buddy, and found that the cost of Maker's has gone from $7 to $8. so Jameson's and Maker's are now priced equivalently. i guess i missed the news about the national whiskey drought we're currently weathering.

just for comparison, Jameson's at The Richardson costs $7. that's a nicer bar with beers on tap and a full cocktail menu, and yet i'll spend less for a more enjoyable experience.

i've also heard about some other friends having crappy stuff happen to them here, primarly about the staff's indifference toward the quality of their patrons' experience. that's technically hearsay since i wasn't present for it, but i trust the sources of these stories.

Parlor, if you're reading this - understand that i WANT to love you, i really and truly do. but you're making it real tough for me to do that! you gotta get with the program and evolve from the Ugly Duckling, into the beautiful Swan you have the potential to become. it's sad that nothing's really changed though, and gives me less hope for your continued development.

i know i'll be back, but i'd like it to be more often than the times when there's no other reasonable options.

Since the epic closing of John's Bicycle Shop last year left this I've been watching the development of this space, peaking at the construction under the not quite closed gates, following their building permits filing (and denials) on the DOB site... because I knew what was coming and that it would be gallant... because my precious corner of Bed Stuy is desperately devoid of that one neighborhood staple - a bar. And so, half asleep in a car after a long night of drinking I was swiftly hit by a second wind when I saw the sweet amber glow of inebriation spilling forth from this wide open store front. The space is ample but cozy, with dark wood, linen colored walls, in-the-shell peanuts on the bar, subway tiled bathroom and a deep dark backyard patio. My BF and I slipped right in, seeing some friendly and familiar faces, spent $7 for a beer and a well drink, and settled into our new home.

My first review of this place was a little harsh.  So I'm back to clarify what I meant.  I also gave this place an extra star, because it really is the only thing in the neighborhood.  With that said I think it's a pretty bad sign when a bar doesn't have a single beer on tap.  And it's not a wine bar.  So if your specialty isn't wine, and there's no beer on tap: what is it? outside of confused I don't really know what to call this bar.  It's yuppified, certainly.  The back yard is ridiculously huge, but with a beer selection of PBR, Stella, Old Speckled Hen and Yeungling... what is going on here? and the couches are really weird/uncomfortable, I understand trying to get a "parlor" vibe, and you have the furniture... but THEN WHAT?  Is there a signature old tyme drink like an old fashioned or mint julep?  Hipsters love kitsch and word play: what about a throwback special: an Old Fashioned and an Old Style beer for 5 bucks?  I like the fact a bar is here.  But they need to bring more to the table (err bar)...
