Great service. Clean car. Accurate estimates and courtesy calls before they arrive. Published flat rates too!
I love that they are a small outfit, independent of the East Bay's big taxi conglomerate. Did you know Project Cab started out as an exercise in business plan writing for a class? -

Hi,
I'll be at this intersection in 10 minutes. 3 minutes later: your cab is there. Yeah, I'll be seven more minutes. Two minutes later: we'll have to start running the meter. Yeah, well good luck finding someone to pay that.
The guy seriously told me that when they agreed to ten minutes, they didn't necessarily mean ten minutes. I told him I did, and found that statement unacceptable.1 Previous Review: Show all »

It seems like this place is really hit and miss. If it's good it's great, if it's bad, it's awful. Unfortunately the service I received was a big miss.
Since dealing with this cab company (about a year ago), I have refused to ever call another taxi for fear of having such an awful experience again.
Their website and person on the phone (who had a thick accent which made it difficult to communicate to say in the least) promised a flat rate (for Berkeley to OAK airport), LIE. I paid more than fifty dollars [!] for a ride that was supposed to be $35. (So if you use them be sure to bring extra cash and don't expect them to honor their flat rate). A ride in a stale, gross van, with a rude driver who was rather careless with luggage.
I strongly caution people against playing Russian Roulette with this company if they want to travel with a minimal amount of stress and if they don't want to be the one biting the bullet if their experience ends up being a miss.
Seriously, if you're a student, just take the BART it's [much] cheaper and your luggage won't get ripped in the process of someone handling it poorly. Oh yeah did I forget to mention that? -.- -

Found these guys after slogging through a litany of google searches and bad reviews. The highlights:
1 - You can call a day ahead and schedule your pick-up.
1a - My guy was early for a 6am pickup time. Then he happily waited 20 minutes outside without complaint as the other couple in my travel party arrived.
2 - Flat rates, competitive price.
2a - No extra charge for taking 4 people to SFO from Berkeley.
3 - Sent a van so we would have maximum room for people and bags.
Usually I BART to the Airport, but certainly when I need a ride, this is who I will be calling. -

Fellah picked up my wife, and dropped her off.
Now, that's not so special.
What's special, is that this guy called me every step of the way, and texted me as well so that I wouldn't worry. He called my wife by name, and my wife had a delightful experience. Thorough, friendly, and very, very quick to show up when I called. Actually texted me with an exact ETA. I am more than satisfied. I'm elated. -

I had a very poor experience, the cabbie was friendly which was the only thing that made the trip worth while. after arranging a pick up time, the cab was 25 minutes late. between that time i had called the dispatch four times; one conversation went 'oh he should be right there check' and me saying 'nope im standing on the curb and nope' the response was 'oh...well and than a click' the last two times i called it went straight to voice mail. once the cab actually pulled up and arrived i had asked what had happened and the response was 'i was here', which unless the cab was invisible was not the case. all in all i have had better experiences before.

Wanted to book a flat rate cab to OAK. We live right at the Albany/ Berkeley border -- our house is in Albany but house next door is in Berkeley. We were told the flat rate price was automatically $45 (as opposed to $35) because of those 100 ft.

This was a review for September 2010. I called in the day before to get a ride to the Oakland airport the next day. My flight was at 9am so I asked for a ridiculously early time in case they were late. They WERE late, the cab itself was big but falling apart, and we only made it on time because the driver pulled some very illegal moves that made me fear for my life. The driver was very accommodating and apologetic for being late though; the price was reasonable. It wasn't the worst thing in the world but I don't think I'll use them again. From the reviews it sounds like they are very inconsistent.

It's taken me a long time to get to writing this review, because I have such mixed feelings about Project Cab. I can't even figure out how many stars to give them, so I just picked 2 because the negative side so far outweighed the positives. I hired them to provide van service for my wedding, shuttling guests between a couple of Berkeley locations and the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park. We used their two vans, which are new and well-kept. On the positive side, Project Cab was very pleasant and friendly to deal with. They were prompt, patient, and flexible about timing. Their fee was reasonable.
On the negative side, a couple of my guests independently told me that their van driver "nearly ran off the road" coming down into Berkeley from Tilden Park after the reception. What ???? The whole reason for hiring the transportation service was for the safety of my guests! It would have been a terrible disaster for a van-full of relatives to go crashing down the Berkeley Hills! When I mentioned this feedback to the Project Cab owner, he acknowledged that perhaps the driver wasn't as experienced as he should have been and indicated that my guests had also provided him directly with the same feedback. I suggested he never use this driver again and that he do a better job of screening the capabilities of the drivers. I don't know whether this has happened or not. So.... I would likely hire Project Cab again to do transport to/from local airports, but I don't intend to hire them for anything more demanding. Fortunately, I don't plan to ever have another wedding! -

The ride itself was just fine and timing was good, so they get two stars. The driver didn't accept credit cards (which they advertise, "all accept credit cards"), and he was disgusted when I expected to pay the flat rate advertised which I had confirmed over the phone. His attitude then became (in my opinion) excessively nasty. All in all, not reliable and unpleasant.
