Review from Pablo E.

Prof's is probably my favorite bar in Kent. Sporting a broad selection of brews and a relaxing atmosphere (board games, anyone?), Prof's also has a super-sweet jukebox that's internet-capable, so your evening's soundtrack can be as eclectic as the folks in attendance. Therefore: choose your friends wisely.
Professor's seems to have become the bar of choice for the punks, scenesters, or whatever they're called these days. Folks that at least try to stay off the beaten path seem to be the clientele, which is better than going to a jerk bar and being around drunken obnoxious fraternity douchebags. The good news is that even though we can all agree that punk rock is as much a fashion statement as a political one these days, generally the dude of common apparel is accepted at a place like this without issue. The beer menu reflects this attitude of broad acceptance, with offerings ranging from the buck-fifty PBR tallboy (my choice there!) to various seasonal specialty brews (Sam Adams summer is a fave) to the microbrew beer-yuppie shit that's like $8.50 a bottle. Meh, to each their own, right?
Cozy place, relaxed atmosphere, good beer, worth a visit!
SECRET BONUS: Dress like a Young Republican on a Friday night and watch people scowl while they ponder whether you're ironically cool or just tragically unhip. -

Finally found a bar in Kent that i love, and they're closing in December. Of course.
Very laid back atmosphere, and great group of people. This is the least pretentious bar in all of Kent. The servers are super friendly and they have tons of beer options. Most bottles are $4 or less.
I love that they have comfy booths to sit in and that the music isn't too loud. One of my biggest pet peeves is bars that play music so loud that you can't hear your companions. You won't have that problem here.
Totally bummed that they're closing next month. The bartender said that they'll be under new management. She said she doesn't expect the vibe to change, though. -

Though it's only been open for a few months, Professor's Pub is on the right track. It's a comfy spot on the main kent strip that almost feels like a friend's house rather than a pub. They have a huuuuuge selection of microbrews, and ten different drafts. We're talking like 50 different types of brews. They don't mess around. Seasonals too.
it's not an extremely rowdy place to go, so you can head up there with your friends for a few drinks, sit around and play board games, or just sit back and relax by yourself. there's no food yet, but i hear they are going to have food and coffee during the day, which makes this place a step up above the rest. Not the greasy kind, but soups, salads, and healthy good comfort food.
oh, and good holiday parties.
connect four tournaments and microbrews. now *that's* what i'm talking about. -

Great addition to the Kent bar scene. And they have pinball! Always a pleasure to drink and play! Especially since Bombers is gone! The beer selection is actually better down the street (43) at Riverside, but the atmosphere allows you to be more free spirited here. I always get looked at crazy when I start having about 3 or 4 9% alcohol beers at Riverside. This place is dimly lit so people can't really tell what type of nonsense I am up to.

This is my favorite bar in Kent when I want to just spend some time with my friends. You can actually hear each other talk here and it is really laid back. I love to go there on a weeknight and bring in take-out and have a beer from the WONDERFUL beer selection. The bartenders are all really nice and not pretentious. Kent has really needed something like this for a while.

Professor's is one of the more laid back bars in Kent. No Frats guys here. They have a huge selection of brew and some cozy seats. The jukebox is connected to the internet and you will hear some good indie/dance tunes. Don't play bad music or they WILL reset the jukebox. Before 9 pm they serve foods mostly wraps and salads and during the day it is a coffee house. Nice to see the change from coffee to beer. Pinball machine, connect four and other board games, VCR projection screen (they played TMNT II and Indiana Jones b4) and the Wii make this one of the unique spots to drink. On the bad side the cheapest pitcher is $11 so unless you have high tastes stick to the 1.50 BPR and oranjeboom tall boys.
