I stayed at the Holiday Inn on 26th and 6th the last time I visited New York.  I ridiculously forgot  it was Memorial Day weekend when I arrived so the hotel was completely backed up with people checking in and checking out, so I wasn't able to get in my room.  I waited in the bar, which is the Prime Cafe.  The bartender, also one of the owners, was very friendly.  I ordered a Vodka & Tonic, which was strongly made just as it should be.  I was immediately invited into a conversation with Vinnie, the owner, and another female at the bar.

The following night my friend and I had dinner there.  We never saw a menu and instead Al, the other owner & Vinnie's father, fixed us two pastas based on ingredients we expressed interest in.  The food was really good.  Normally this type of treatment would be fabulous, but our mouths dropped when we got our check...for the two of us it was over $100.  We were not expecting that.  And as I said absolutely the food was good, but I don't know if it was that good.

As I got ready to leave the hotel for the airport, I had a last drink in the bar and Vinnie so sweetly picked up the tab for me.  I truthfully fell more in love with the men that own it than the food itself.  I will visit again, but I MUST watch out for the bill!  They do have a happy hour and if you ever want to just sit back with a drink and the game it is a great place to stop by.

Prime Cafe is located in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Hotel on 26th and 6th.  They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner - and of course, have a bar!

Staying at the hotel for 4 nights and 5 days, I had breakfast at the location twice, and had drinks twice as well.  Their breakfast menu has just about everything from pancakes to eggs benedict to omelettes.  Just about all of the dishes are under $16 (the eggs benedict was $15.95 which was on the high end of the menu).  They also have simple breakfasts like oatmeal, bagel and cream cheese ($4.95) and we were even able to order hard boiled eggs off the menu.  I had both the spinach and cheese omelette as well as the eggs benedidct.  Both come with potatoes.  Both dishes were good, not the best I've had, but definitely "A-OK".

The good thing about the restaurant is that they open early.  We had taken a red-eye from LA to NYC and when we got to the hotel, after doing a quick walk around the nearby streets - there wasn't much open for breakfast.

Another great plus about this place is happy hour.  Happy hour is from 4pm-7pm and all the drinks (regardless of well or premium) are half off!  The people at the bar and super friendly as well.  We were in the bar area at 3:30pm to watch the Laker game and they started happy hour early for us! If it were the bar alone, I'd probably rate them higher.  They even have a large selection of alcohol.  A lot of places I go may not have raspberry vodka, but alas they do! Definitely another plus!!

I'm not usually of hotel restaurants, but this one was pretty good.  It is located at a Holiday Inn in Chelsea and was not a place I would have chosen myself.  It looks like a sports bar a bit on the outside, which is what you'd expect, but inside was beautifully done with rock walls, and cool wood floors.  The glass atrium where the dining tables are, is different.  From there, you get a view of the back sides of buildings which is much the flavor of the city.  We started out early and there were Happy Hour specials that last until 7 p.m.  We were feeling very happy and decided to stay for dinner which made us even happier.  The wings we had as an appetizer were great.  At the table we had a wonderful pasta on special that night that was enjoyed, and my steak was out of this world.  It is an American, Italian, Steakhouse kind of place.  The service was good, and the food even better.  The booths are pretty cozy.  The bar is dark, but fun and it was pretty crowded when we got in at 5:30 p.m.
