Kudos for : ) nice selection of reasonable chic fashion : ) Lov the accessories here and always recommend this place to my pals : )
Def most check out gals nice and cool. However sometimes some checkout workers need some more attention to customer service and attitude's in check. (guess depends on who's working huh?)
Other than that. Yep, love this store.

Thanks Presence for some funky stylish reasonable pieces : ) Accessories, t-shirts, earrings,… Read more »
i've heard such mixed reviews about presence that thought i should devise my own opinion of the joint. i perused the racks of clothing and jewelry, and i definitely saw a lot of things that i liked; however, after trying some dresses on and taking a second look at some of the accessories, i had some second thoughts. a lot of the dresses were really cute but they didn't fit me how i wanted them to. i would second some of the previous reviewers sentiments about presence being the indie shop version of forever 21...but more expensive. the dresses are really trendy and run small. a lot of ladies will be able to find something they like...but not necessarily something they'll buy.
the bags, wallets, and jewelry are all really cute...and again, very trendy and slightly more expensive than other chain places. for me, this places seems like it's going to be very hit-or-miss. i've gotten a few things from here, but i've also walked out empty handed. it's worth a trip if you are looking for a trendy dress or bag.
I thought this was a thrift store before my friend told me to check it out. I have only bought gifts for other friends at this store. I just wanted to let Presence know that they need to update their window display. It really comes off as a thrift store. Other than that, the employees are very nice and let you be when you tell them you are just looking around.
On more note: since when is the average size woman size 14 plus?!!! Plus size is called plus size because that is what it is! Just because America is becoming overly obese, doesn't mean NORMAL size stores have to cater to your plus size needs.
I've come here quite a few times, and the staff has always been friendly and helpful without being overwhelming. They have a lot of cute and cheap accesories (scarves, purses, earings, necklaces, etc) which is the main reason I come here. Their clothes are hit or miss, and the quality is really lacking on some garments which are tearing at the seams. Some items are ridiculously high priced for what they are, others pretty affordable. Also, if you're a little chunky, do not bother coming here, I agree with Yasmin's prior comment of "this is a great place if you're a size 2 hipster." I'd give this place a 1 star rating were it not for their cute accesories, friendly staff, and frequent coupons in the mail.
This is a great place if you're a size 2 hipster. They've had some interesting silk scarves, but they're generally of the Indian import variety and aren't likely to be particularly unique. Friendly staff, for the most part. Lots of stuff that makes me go, "Oh, cute!" but nothing that compels me to actually fork over any money.
They need to revamp their window display. Those paper umbrellas are showing their age, and the whole mess looks like an ice-bound Alaskan's fantasy of the Caribbean. And, in fact, the items are thrown together so haphazardly that some of my friends think it's a thrift store - until I tell them otherwise. I love thrift stores, but if you're not running a thrift store, it helps to have a slightly more professional window display.
This is my favorite store in Chicago. They always have deals, and special offers. I never go in here without buyig something. They've got eveything from jackets to accessories and awesome dresses! Go here!
I like the abundance of Tulle clothing and I especially like the fliers they send with discounts & the sale rack. :)
Also a great place to get a cute a dress (see profile pic!)
I really don't like this store. Not because of the customer service, as the sales people are terribly friendly, I just think the clothes suck. As much as I like my 'hood Andersonville, I think the anti big chain store Nazis really need to lighten up! I mean, can I get a Gap? Sephora? You relented to giving the 'hood a damn Starbucks so what gives? Anyways, back to Presence. The clothes are boring. Prairie skirts, cargo pants, t-shirts yadda yadda not overpriced, not cheap just...there. :(
Me no likey Presence.
Yes, it's pretty much the only shop dedicated to young women's clothing in Andyville, but my my my is it ever a great one. I may just be saying this because Presence carries clothing and accessories that are JUST. MY. STYLE.
Where this store really excels is in dresses. Seriously cute ones for $40 to $60 usually.
My best find ever? LONG PANTS. Do you know how difficult it is for a 5'10" gal to find pants in this world? Impossible! Until now. I got a pair of skinny black jeans for about $60, and they fit perfectly. I think the salesgirls were a little frightened by the amount of raving I was doing while checking out. Oh well.
It's filled with the non-ironic Forever 21 clothes--but with just a bit more quality and a bit pricier. (This is a compliment. I actually do like Forever 21 sometimes.)
I figured I should probably check out the clothing shops in my new neighborhood eventually now that I can come out from underneath my layers of frock.
Umm, is this place the only clothing store in the area???
I was a bit spoiled coming from Wicker Park where there are tons of boutiques at my immediate disposal. If I need a leather wooden armed chair and a mosaic disco ball vase, I'm set, but Presence is the only clothing store for women I noticed.
When I went in I immediately thought this was such a cute place but upon further inspection of the clothing I realized a good portion of it seemed cheap looking and cheaply made. If you look, you can find some good deals in here on nicer items. I found a work dress for only $28; however, the real reason to come into this store is the accessories! I pretty much wanted to buy every piece of jewelry and handbag that they had. I saw a couple of reviews that mentioned the staff being unfriendly and whatnot, but I was warmly greeted and left alone to shop, which is what I like. I'll definitely come back here again. Mostly because it's the only clothing store in the area.
Ok, sorry. But Presence, you've kind of pissed me off.
:::ding, you've got mail::::
:::::oh, a 20 percent off WHOLE PURCHASE Mother's Day coupon to Presence!::::
::::Makes a special trip to Presence/Andersonville::::
::::finds some cute stuff, including some sale jewelry:::
::::ring it up::::
::::present coupon::::
checkout girl: Oh, sorry. But the sale markdown is the better deal, so you can't use that.
me: Um, ok. It does not say that anywhere on the coupon.
checkout girl: ummm, yeah. I don't know.
me: Ok.
I paid for the items. Fine. But don't send me a coupon with literally NO restrictions on it for 20 percent off an entire purchase, and then concoct some bogus regulation when I get up to pay and present you with the coupon, as it was really the only reason I made a special trip. If it had said anything on it, well fine then...I am totally on board if it's clear. But don't make me feel like some kind of cheap-o (I call it "frugal") for trying to use a coupon that YOU SENT ME!
I do like this store, but get it together people. It makes me want to avoid it. Indefinitely.

I'm updating this.
I LOVE this store. It's such a happy place full of trinkets, accessories, funky… Read more »
For some unexplained and inexplicable reason - I am really into green lately.
You know - the color.
And I spent quite a bit of it to buy some (a fraction really) of the green treasures I found at Presence: a little clutch, a scarf, a silky top and some other non-relevant things (read: of other colors. I am an open and welcoming girl after all).
This place is just going to be the death of me - and would be for sure if I were to live in the area - and I said so to the nice person behind the registrar. She nodded in a compassionate way.
You can find every thing you want to be the queen of your block this summer: funny t-shirts, romantic shirts, ruffled tops, and tons and tons of dresses. It is so overwhelming that it makes you wander in the store like a lost soul. Don't be afraid of the haggard look on your face though: just do it. Buy, grab a cool piece of jewelry for the fun of it and squat your closet.
Lovely clothes. Too bad nothing fits the average woman. They advertised "generous sizes" for a while, but that only meant one rack of just a few size 14 items, hidden all the way in back. They do have some great scarves and purses, though, which is why I'm giving them two stars instead of one.
I think I love this store a little too much for my budget these days...
I came in here with a friend this weekend after having not been in for a while. It's Spring now, and I decided that I needed lots of new spring dresses. This was definitely the place to go. There were a ton of dresses to choose from. I ended up completely torn between two of them (finally deciding on the one that was more practical). They just had the cutest things though. The girl who was working the dressing room was very sweet despite being isanely busy. Women were literally pushing me out of the way to get in line for the fitting rooms but she somehow managed to stay calm (something I know that I would not be able to do).
I'd rate my experience here four stars and will definitely go back. The quality of clothes could be a little bit better, but the price is definitely right for a small boutique.
I just discovered this place last summer and I'm so sad I've lived in Chicago for 6 years and didn't find out about it sooner. They have such great stuff . Lots of really cute dresses, skirts, shirts....stuff you can dress up for work or dress down for everyday. And tons of accessories - jewelry, purses, sunglasses, lots of fun, funky stuff on the cheap. Actually, overall the store is inexpensive. I was in there a few weeks ago and I got 3 summer dresses that were all about $30-40 each, and a couple of shirts for around $20 each.
I'm actually kind of glad that I have to make an effort to go to Presence (its about a 1.5 mile walk from my place) otherwise I would be in there weekly and end up with no room in my apt for all the stuff I wouldn't be able to resist buying!!
I thought maybe I should review a bunch of women's shops to help out the guys this Christmas. Hopefully this can be helpful for the women and I'll try not to sound to girly for the guys.
If I was a girl I'd shop here all the time. I don't know if it's because I get stuck waiting in here for my lady friend to shop a lot or not but I dig it here. Music is usually good, Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, so on. The staff is rocks, they don't laugh at me (well maybe they do) when I'm goofing off... I get bored what can I say.
You name it they got it. Expensive and cheap, colorful and plain, funky and um.... more funky (???), jewelry, and many accessories in this full boutique. From what I've been told the materials they use are a good quality too. They even a little lounge area to wait as your peeps try on their clothes (I fall asleep in them... probably with my mouth open).
Very cool place but again I have a ....... and it's a ...........s shop so can't give it 5 stars.
I am not a size 2. I am not even a size 12. Therefore I will not be shopping in this oh-so-cute-if-I-were-4-sizes-smaller store. Well, I am not sure how many things I would be buying even then as many (ie: most) of their things are in the über feminine category and that is not my jeans and t-shirt realm. However, they did seem to have some bits and pieces I could throw into my wardrobe to give it a lift for those not so jeans and t-shirt days. That would be if their clothes came beyond a size large and did not run on the small size, per the sales clerk.
What I really like about the store though, since my chubster butt cannot fit in their clothes, is the sales staff. Both times I have stopped in they have been friendly, engaging and helpful WITHOUT being in my face. Well, all that and they do have some cute accessories that are funky enough for a non-girly type like myself to feel comfortable wearing them. And, I was able to find a bracelet for my friend's birthday that she absolutely loved. :)
Presence has some really cute stuff- not of the highest quality, but it's also not super expensive. I've been coming in here on occasion for several years, usually going to the one in Evanston until they closed, and now going to the Andersonville location. The Evanston location was better.
Every time I go into the Andersonville location, I encounter an employee who is a little rude. And its never the same one. I don't know what's up with the people they hire to work there, but every time I go in there I end up considering never coming back.
I walked past the window of this place on my way home from work and couldn't resist the 15% off jewelry sale. The selection was whimsical yet slightly more sophisticated than places like Urban Outfitters and H&M. The prices were fantastic, too. Plus, it just makes me feel good to support local businesses.
I will definitely be back to check out their clothing selection.
I have LOVED shopping here for years - the entire place is SO CUTE, it's reasonably priced, the selection changes all the time, and the salespeople are totally chill. I've had GREAT luck with dresses, skirts, and tops here - particularly a cocktail dress that looked like a million bucks and really cost $40. I just wish my thighs would fit into their jeans. But eh.
Also I came in here the weekend before Christmas when it was REALLY cold and they were serving hot apple cider. THAT hit the spot!
Phenomenal for accessories, especially handbags! Just a-okay for clothes. If I could rate their store on category, they'd get 4 stars for accessories and 2 for the clothes. The quality on their clothes isn't that great (think H&M or Forever 21) but the prices are MUCH higher. However, I haven't ever had any of their bags fall apart on me and the prices are totally reasonable! The sales staff is definitely a mixed bag, usually just sort of kicking it at the cash point, but never outwardly rude, just letting you do your thing.
It's definitely a great place to dig through to find a few fun pieces for the season!
They have such great accessories here, and they are reasonably priced. I am always out for a bargain, though, and I do agree that some of the clothing can be found at chains like Discovery and Rainbow for less. That said, I don't always have the heart or the travel time necessary to brave the neighborhoods those stores reside in. Also, the accessories at those stores do not match the selection and price of Presence.
The girls that work at this shop are great. They are very nice, and their offers to help are never intrusive or pushy. I so appreciate this, because I know that I am the irritating girl that wanders the store and takes forever to make up her darn mind, too. : )
On many occasions I have to walk on the other side of the street when I am in this area of Andersonville. Simply because I find it very difficult to walk by Presence with out getting sucked into the store. It is quite the dilemma. I get drawn in by the fun window displays, the shiny baubles, the occasional sale, and also by my quest to find something cute to wear.
I go here mainly for accessories--they have quite an abundance of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, scarves, headbands, rings, and hats. The clothes are not always my style, but I like some of their pieces, and the sales people are always so very nice.
They have a cute selection of clothing, but I feel as if the prices don't really match the quality of it. There are a ton of stores like these in NYC where it's much cheaper, so that kind of threw me off. Their sales rack in the back is okay, but most of the clothes aren't really something that's appealing. They have an okay selection of accessories and such, and a few of the employees are friendly.
I want to like this place more than I do.
The staff is always helpful, and I like the costume jewelry selection. The sunglasses are also usually worth a browse.
A few of the lines they occasionally carry (Tulle, BB Dakota) are pretty well-made, but most items are grossly overpriced considering the quality of the fabric and seams.
If you're in the neighborhood regularly, it's probably worth it to go in often since turnover can be quick, depending on which trends they've chosen to highlight.
It's unfortunate that the dumpy jersey sack look with giant plastic jewelry has such staying power.
It's a local Andersonville shop so I'll give it 1 star for that. My best friend used to work here so I'll give it another star for that also.
However, the quality and selection is hit or miss here. They charge too much for "boho chic" that I can find at Goodwill for loads less and it's more authentic there. I hate walking down the street and seeing the same girl wear the exact same "one of a kind" dress with plastic bangles, a huge purse and leggings as the other one. It's been done, it's over and you just haven't caught up.
They do try to carry a selection of interesting sunglasses, cocktail jewelry and wallets so think of Urban Outfitters meets H&M. Cheap, but trying to look cool.
This store reminds me a lot of H&M, except not a chain, and therefore elevated in my book. Fun, inexpensive cute stuff. Love the jewery, they even carry nose piercings, and I would rather shop here than dragging myself to Hot Topic, because the staff is much nicer and friendlier here.
This is my store. I shop here when I can. I buy all types of things from purses, belts, clothes and rings. The staff is friendly.
Its a local area for me so I enjoy the clothes they have because you won't be likely to find the same clothes anywhere else...thumbs up for that!
Great casual, fun clothing and accessories at reasonable prices. Everything from basics to funky. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back again soon!
Last winter, I went to work for the first time at a place with a "business casual" dress code. My normal work clothes up to this point had been jeans, sneakers, thrift store t-shirts and ratty sweaters -- the same crap I wore on the weekends.
The idea of stocking up on khaki pants and button down shirts was so depressing and foreign to me! Thankfully, a friend turned me on to shopping at Presence. And now, I'd say close to 50 percent of my work wardrobe is from here. Presence always seems to have a good assortment of jersey-material shirts with nice details (which I SO prefer to regular dress shirts), stylish dresses that are pretty but not glitzy or revealing, and cute basics -- wide-leg pants, knee-length skirts, little jackets, etc.
Also, for the stylishness and relatively good quality of the clothes here, I think the prices are reasonable. The store does run a number of good sales too.
Presence saved my closet! Yay.
Great selection of clothes but the price point is high for the quality. Some items there can be found at Discovery for $10.00-20.00 less. :)
You can find some cute things here, they have all sorts of accessories at affordable prices. It is a lot like Forever 21. The styles here are probably more appropriate for Juniors, and the fit tends to run on the smaller size. The quality of clothing is not so great-it is rather cheaply made. But, things go out of fashion pretty fast so by the time a shirt starts to fall apart its time to retire it anyway.
ugh - i really want to like this place, because they're locally owned and one of the only clothing places in Andersonville, but here's the thing - I feel like I'm interupting their social hour every time I come in. On top of that I get shit service when I do ask for it. I'm not a femmy girl, so maybe they think i won't purchase anything. What they don't know is my girlfriend loves their overpriced crap, so I'm usually looking for her. These girls make me so angry. What are you so pissed about Presence?!?!
Wow man. Can't believe Presence is still around. I shopped at the original store further down on Clark St. about 30+ years ago. 4 Stars just for surviving, like me.
Groovy.
It's a cute lil place where I'm always sure to find something to buy.
Lots of fun accessories, ie jewerly, purses, tights and scarves. They seem to have more dresses than your average women's wear store. And with a funky flare. Too bad they're usually 40-80 bucks, so I'm usually just raiding the clearance rack.
Friendly, not pushy staff that let you do your own thang.
It's true, the sizes do run small and I often feel like quite the porker when I can't fit myself into their cute clothes. Hmm, is it cause they're convienently located next to Cheetah Gym?
A colorful store/boutique with a vintage vibe and low-low prices! My favorites are the wide selection of brightly colored funky dresses, shirts and miniskirts- most in decent quality, machine-washable cotton T-shirt fabric.
Great for the summer! You'll want to buy two of whatever you like- earrings, dresses- it's cheap enough in price that you will not notice a dent in your wallet.
They also have a broad assortment of trendy sunglasses ($10), handbags, wallets, headbands, jewelry and scarves.
There's fantastic sales too- I bought my niece a bitty "big girl purse" a miniature ($3.00 sale) Kelly bag! Hermes- here we come- by way of a midwest kindergardner! Yay!
A lot of fun, won't break the bank.
After meeting Yelpers for the first time ever at Simon's we went to Hamburger Mary's and hung around Andersonville for a bit. The girl we dragged out spotted a dress in here and needed an outfit for her trip coming up. So we went in. Now let's make things clear: I loathe wearing skirts, dresses and pretty much anything too girly. But I loved some of the stuff in here. The prices were awesome and they were having a pretty sweet sale. All the sizes seemed kind of small though which was disconcerting to me but perhaps if I looked harder....
All in all I cannot wait to get back here and explore some more sometime soon! Just another Andersonville jewel!
OMG! I love love love this place!!!! The clothes are soooo reasonable for totally trendy stuff that I don't want to spend so much on at Nordstrom's for things I am only going to wear for a like one see...
I can't believe there is any negative reviews about this place!!!
The staff is friendly and I could be there for hours looking thru thier stuff... my friend who lives in Andersonville introduced me, and I don't get there as often as I like... I but I LOVE IT!!!!!
Their prices are sooo reasonable........ AND I definitley do not think that they have too much of the same stuff.
Also, their hours are great too!!!
Ok, so I want to go back tomorrow now and see what cute new stuff they have... but I am out of town, and I can't bummer. :(( hehehe
I love Presence. They have really cute clothes and accessories. Super affordable too! Most shirts are no more than $30.
I like this store because it has trendy clothes and it won't break the piggy bank. Some of the stuff though, are pretty trashy (like towards the sale section) and I've only tried on clothes that are in the front of the store. They have a good selection of tops/sweaters, etc and almost always I find at least one thing I want to buy.
I love love love their accessories. They have the best bags (which are actually wearable and not tacky) and the bag I currently tote around is from there and was only $20! Very nice. They also have really cute jewlery and I've gotten some necklaces for only $10.
The service is always good and the girls that work there are really helpful. The return policy is kinda annoying... it's 14 days to return/exchange and the only reason I think it's annoying is because it's not that close to my place.
Presence is the type of store you walk by and you are immediately drawn in to check it out! They always have cute window displays and the dangling accessories on the wall are enticing.
I have bought a handful of items from here and I have drawn the conclusion that this place is more allure than substance. You can definitely find a cute top here and there! This is a great place to run to and pick up some cute earnings or top without heading downtown. However, this is place where you have to "treasure hunt" a little. A lot of the items are poor quality or you could buy the exact same thing at Forever 21 for 10 bucks less.
This being said, it is still very worth stopping in here and checking things out! I have a couple really unique tops/sweaters that have lasted and were great buys!
