What's not to like about Prescott Park. On the harbor, great water views, tranquil oasis adjoining downtown, and it's FREE!

Prescott Park is what Portsmouth is all about.  Grab a sandwich from Moe's or some pizza from Savario's and have a picnic in the park.  The views of the river and the bridge are amazing, and the gardens are worth looking at.  In the summer there are concerts and plays, too.

One thing that will disappoint some people is the lack of parking, so don't try to park at the park.  Just leave the car in the garage and walk over.  Another thing that isn't perfect is that dogs aren't allowed in the park.  I really can't complain about anything else so I'm giving Prescott Park 5 stars.

A cute little park in Portsmouth overlooking the Piscataqua.

They hold events here occasionally. I went to Chili-fest one year (I think thats what they called it) and thought it was a great spot to sit with some piping hot chili. In fact, it would make a nice picnic spot any day.

The garden, though small, is very lovely. I have seen many couples here for their wedding photos, and I am sure their pictures were beautiful. Also there is a dock where you can stop your boat if you have one, and come up to the park.

I remember for me when I lived in this town, it was a nice spot to lie in the grass in the summer and stare off to the water. Worth a stop if you are in Portsmouth!

I really love visiting Prescott Park, especially the small garden area.  For one thing, how cool are the old gnarled trees?  I remember photographing them quite often in college, they look super cool in black and white.  It is just a nice, relaxing place to visit and spend time while in Portsmouth.  I was excited to go back there last week and show it off to my husband.  It was just as cool as I remember, although I didn't realize how much of the park does not have trees...parts of the park were quite warm with the sun brightly shining down on it.  People didn't seem to mind though, there were families, students, couples, and other folks just happily spread throughout the area.  There are plenty of places to set up a nice picnic and there are a few sculptures worth checking out.  Oh, and of course...take a walk out onto the the docks near the water which is fun too.

I highly recommend visiting it.  It isn't huge, you can easily walk around the grounds of the park in an hour or so.  But, take some extra time to walk around the gardens, it is worth the trip.  Quite lovely!  I uploaded a few photos.  Enjoy!

We stopped by Prescott park for a picnic lunch while we were in Portsmouth. Luckily, it was a very sunny day and we enjoyed our time in this beautiful park. The trees are beautiful and we loved sitting by the benches near the water. There were some lovely flowers in bloom too which added to the whole experience.

Prescott Park (pronounced Preskit) is located on the easdt side of Portsmouth, up against the piscataqua (Pronounced Piss-cat-ah-kwah) river, which flows from Great Bay out to portsmouth harbor.

A nice small park with a nice little marina to park the boat on your way out to the isle of shoals.

Prescott park is also the home of an outdoor play series. I recall as a kid my parents putting out a blanket or two to save some space, and having a picnic surrounded by friends and other families doing the same. A great summer activity for those in the area.

Though quite small, this is indeed a lovely park overlooking historic Portsmouth and the mouth of the Piscataqua River. I used to go to this park often to study or read while I was in college...and sometimes to eat lunch too.

In the warmer months beautiful flowers are arranged throughout. It's also a nice place to stroll to at night after having dinner or whatever, with gorgeous nighttime views overlooking the water.

Okay, so my son got married here last week....But I would have given it 5 stars even if it wasn't such a fantastic event! What a beautiful place for an outdoor ceremony. The harbor in the background. The phenomenally gorgeous flower gardens with deciduous and exotic plantings are timeless. Serene and charming. Just as a wedding place should be!

Lovely little park that takes maybe 5 minutes to walk through. It would be great for a picnic, or tossing the frisbie around. Located right across from Strawberry Banke. It's nice that its on the River, which allows a nice cool breeze to flow through. The flower garden is quite serene and peaceful.
