One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Dr. Hall is my dermatologist and she's great at what she does. She takes her time during my examinations and is more concerned about being thorough and doesn't just rush off to her next patient. I had seen my share of dermatologists and no one was ever able to get rid of my back acne until I saw her. A very unfortunate reaction to stress :( I am happy to say that my back is now as smooth as can be and acne free thanks to Dr. Hall and it's stayed that way for over a year now. She's up front on top of it and that's something that I really appreciate.
I also came in another time for a gnarly skin reaction from what I thought was a killer spider bite, but that story's way too long and gory to be posted. Let's just say Dr. Hall did a great job of curing me of what I thought was a venomous spider bite.
Irene is the esthetician there and she's a sweet as can be. She gives some killer facials and doesn't mess around when it comes to clearing out my pores. She's also great for acne injections when you want a quick fix to get rid of that giant red target of a zit in the middle of your forehead.
The front office staff is also as friendly and professional as can be. Lastly, you just can't beat the location if you work in the financial district. The office is easy to get to.
I went to Dr. Jhin for a body scan/mole check and for consultation on some marks of (aesthetic) concern on my face.
She had one foot out the door from the moment she walked in and after the body scan I asked what she could do for the age/sun spots and the red moles on my face. She mentioned 3 procedures and then asked me which one I wanted.
Since I had never had any of these procedures done before I asked what they entailed and how much they were. I was just looking for a high level elevator pitch here- and she referred me to the INTERNET. She couldn't even be bothered to spend 10 seconds telling me what is involved in lasering my face.
She told me to go check with my insurance to see if the red mole removal was covered and I was surprised because usually, if they want your business, the front office takes that task on. Hers can't be bothered though.
This woman is a jerk with a lousy bedside manner.
I really like the laser hair removal, and Gayla is the best at it.
As for Dr. Jhin, I am not the hugest fan, as she charged me 375 too for an issue she did not solve, then I can back, and then she gave me the only solution - and Gayla, the best technician worked her magic. thank you.
"You're too oily," said Dr Jhin when she checked me out for the first time. I think that's when I fell in love with her. I need my doctor's to be scraight up. I was recently treated at Premier Dermatology for a gigantic cyst that I had up on my dome piece. I basically looked like a Klingon from Star Trek, that or I was on my way to becoming a unicorn and the cyst was just the initial stage. Nevertheless, I really needed that sucker off my face. My first two appointments were for cortisone shots. Apparently you can get them the same day if you call in the morning. Word up to that policy! Today I had my cyst drained by Dr. Hall, who is as lovely as she is professional. I feel much better now.
All appointments were neatly scheduled to fit my needs by one of Dr Jhin's nurses, who is a total cutie by the way and listens to cool music like Boards of Canada and Depeche Mode.
Werd.
When a prescription expires and Walgreens tells me they have to fax my doctor to get an update, I expect nothing. Most doctors' offices ignore these faxes. In every past case, I've had to ping the doctor's office and only after a good deal of rigamarole do I get my prescription.
Not so with Premiere. They turned it around the day it was faxed over. I didn't have to wait. Take note folks - this is a classy joint.

This place is a little hard to find but what can I say, Welcome to San Francisco! The office is really nice and clean but not sterile- it has a warm feel to it.
The only thing I would think becomes an issue is the thin walls. You can hear the patient/doctor conversation in the next room. They do have a sign warning you that the walls are thin, which is nice; but I think one thing that would help is if they had some music playing- it was make one focus on the music rather than the conversation next door.
I saw Dr. Hall, thumbs up to her. She was very professional and very cordial. She anwered all of my questions, regardless of how silly the were, and I felt completely comfertable.
Months later and I still have no reply nor resolution to a billing issue that has dragged on forever.
I'm thinking ab out going there and sitting in the office with a large sign that says that Dr. Jhin ripped me off, over charged me, sent me to collections (After I paid !!!) and doesn't give a crap -

I've had a pretty bad relationship with my skin for most of my life. It is seriously rebellious, recalcitrant, and easily irritated. Kind of like a surly adolescent. As part of this "Holy Crap, I Just Turned 30!" phase of my life, I decided to revisit the dermatologist, and I'm glad that I finally did it. After just a few visits, my skin has already noticeably improved. It's amazing how dermatology has changed since I first went when I was a teenager. Now, (at least some) insurance covers cortisone injections and "medical" facials! (As long as you have been diagnosed with a condition that warrants these treatments.) I immediately trusted Dr. Jhin. Her assistant, Irene, gave me a facial and she did a really nice job. I'm pleased with the results.
One thing to note: If you are 30 or older, most insurance will not cover Retin-A, so if you are in your late 20s and considering seeing a dermatologist, do so now! (Without coverage, it's something like $160 per tube.)
Also, Irene, the dermatological assistant, is absolutely amazing. I really can't tell you what I go to her for, because a girl has to have some secrets. But I do need to tell you that she is so sparkly and so competent. I previously rated PD at only 4 stars, because I often had to wait for 15-20 minutes for my appointments after the actual start time. So I told Irene that I am a busy lady over here, and that I need to know if my appointment is actually at 5:45, and not 5:30. So now she calls me to let me know if they are running late. Added Irene bonus: that girl has style! And beautiful skin to boot!
I found Dr. Jhin on Yelp, and have to say I've had a good experience. The first visit she prescribed me stuff to get my skin issues calmed down, took time to talk about my previous bouts with acne (oh, and there are many), and recommended a few procedures that might help. Her staff was nice and very helpful with working out my insurance.
I signed up for their Day of Beauty, an all-day event where they offer discounted prices on peels and other procedures. I decided to do a Beta Peel for $75 (versus the regular $125). I don't know if I'll do it again, because I was a little unprepared for the 25 seconds of stingy chemically pain (oh! a *chemical* peel...gotcha...), but after that and the subsequent 4-5 days of peeling, I have to admit -- the skin underneath looked awesome!
(During the peeling process I did feel a little bit like an alien shedding her skin...but that's me. I watch a lot of sci fi.)
I also got a free pink t-shirt that says "BOTOX" in fake rhinestones. Now I'm not planning on getting botox, nor wearing that shirt in public, but free stuff - cleanser, moisturizer, t-shirts - is nice, too. Also, Christine, who did my peel, was professional and seemed very understanding about my peel-naivety (yes, she gave me the shirt).
Thanks, Premier Dermatology!
Thanks for the recommendation, Yelp!
The Mr. had an appointment for a medical (i.e. not cosmetic) evaluation, and we both left feeling uncomfortable and underwhelmed.
The problem with the office seems to be overbooking. Dr. Jhin wasn't in that day, and the duties fell solely to her physician's-assistant.
For the hour we were there (the Miss waited in the waiting room for her Mr.) there were five patients with appointments. Five people and one assistant.
As a result, the Mr. (who has many years of experience with dermatologists) found his visual-only evaluation superficial, with the assistant unwilling to give him more than a few minutes of attention at a time - she was in and out of the room at least three times. Nor was she eager to be detained in answering his questions. Instead, he was given a brochure and told to make another appointment.
The staff is clearly aware that they are overbooked, but don't see to be able to handle it in a professional manner - the assistant made several statements to the receptionists within full earshot of the waiting room about her displeasure in taking on new patients, and one unflattering comment about the Dr. that was very embarrassing to overhear.
When we left the office 75 minutes later, one patient who arrived on time for his appointment still had not been seen - although he came out of his room several times to remind the staff he was waiting - an hour later.
And when the Mr. called to cancel his second appointment, he was told there was no record of that appointment....
There is a dis-connect between the MD & PA & the (2) different office locations.
Based on past visits - there is no real good communication. Staff at the SF location need to realize that with all the signs indicating thin walls, THEY TOO have to be heard, especially talking about "STUFF". HIPA PEOPLE & PROFESSIONALISM (rolling eyes about staff is so wrong!!
Overall, did they help me with my dermatological issues: not really. But MD Marie Jhin nice & did not feel rushed with my visits. The PA Kelly - no comment.
Before I became a client (and a huge fan of) Dr. Jhin, I had a good deal of experience working with Dermatologists in the Bay area. I feel this unique perspective allows me to say without hesitation, that her caring staff, wonderful consideration of every patient's unique needs and moreover the quality of services are among BEST in the bay.
Not all instruments and techniques are created equal first off. I can personally vouch for the value and effectiveness their laser hair removal, IPL facial rejuvenation, sclerotherapy. I've also received some awesome advice on beauty products.
Having some painful and sub-optimal hair removal from alternative places prior, Gayla was incredible and their laser with cooling tip made such a tremendous difference!
I have, and would, highly recommend Premier Dermatology to my friends.
I had a couple of appointments there around 3 months ago. Getting the appointment was somewhat of a pain, as it seems they simply have an answering service that can't schedule appointments, or tell you some pretty basic information. Once inside, however, the front desk person was really nice and welcoming. The decorations on the inside were pleasant, although I didn't like how out there the products they sell were, seemed kind of tacky to me. The doctor seemed rushed, but did have a really good sense of humor and made me relaxed despite the copious amounts of blood I squirted out when I had a small tumor excised (it was benign, yay for me!). The nurse that removed my stitches was very nice and professional.
The first issue I ran into with them is that I had to call 4 times over a 2 month period just to get my lab results from them. Each time, they set the phone down, shuffled through papers while i waited on the phone, then told me they would call me back with the results. Never did hear from them, so I had to keep calling and calling.
The issue that is dropping them to two stars is that I can't get a hold of their billing people at all. My insurance says I owe some amount they didn't cover, but no invoice has come. No one picks up at the outsourced company they use for billing (two vm's so far). I just have a feeling they will ding my credit for missed payment, despite my numerous attempts to get a damn bill! Really pissing me off!
Dr. Jhin has been watching over my freckles and moles for a decade. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my skin, which by the way, is your largest organ. Love the fact that Premier Dermatology is full service too. If I'm having anything done to my face they doctor had better be board certified which they all are. The rest of the gang is fantastic!
EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE
I visited the office for the first time today. They actually got to me on time and my visit was with the real doctor. I was not forced to wait as Dr. Hall go to me in a timely manner and tended to my needs with porfessionalism.
I Highly Recommend
I did have to wait in the office for a few minutes past my appointment, but not more than 10, which is not bad for a Dr office (though I was hoping I had put enough money in the meter).
I saw Dr Hall, who must be fairly new, as she's only lived in San Francisco for 1.5 years. She had me in and out in 10 min. Wrote my prescriptions, explained them thoroughly to me, even gave me a $25 rebate for one of them. She was completely professional, but personal too. We talked about Christmas plans, Florida, etc. Would definitely recommend her to anyone.
The only reason they are losing a star is for the thin walls. There is a sign that says to talk quietly since the walls are so thin, but maybe they should have redesigned the space before making it a Dr office. I found myself glad I wasn't talking about anything embarrassing because it was hard to talk quiet enough where people wouldn't hear you, and I definitely could hear the patients in the room next to me.
**Bring lots of change if you don't want to pay $2.50/20 min to park in the garage. My meter did run out, but thankfully I don't think the parking demons go down Hawthorne all that often!
Update: Irene contacted me immediately and explained that the outsourced customer service was only when no one picked up the phone in their office. It was not their primary, but the backup solution. It would have avoided a lot of head-ache if the call center operator had just explained this to me.

Dr. J really helped me out of a jam. IT WASN'T CANCER!!!
I had a nice back-and-forth with the front desk people about their Yelp reviews and the mystery regarding their supposed rude behavior. Oh how we laughed and talked about pizza for dinner and how I was there to have hair attached to my scalp in a complicated procedure. HAHAHAHAH.
Then Dr. Jhin cut my face with a razor and I was pretty again.
The only suggestion I have for patients is have all your questions ready to ask when Dr. Jhin arrives. I have trouble thinking and remembering on the spot and my hypochondria tends to be excessive, and when the doctor seems to be quite booked, you have to strike quick when you have the opportunity.
I love this office! I wish my physicians' offices were like this. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and I feel well taken care of. Also, every six months or so, they have these Day of Beauty events with discount services, food and drinks, free samples, and make-up application. They create such a warm community atmosphere.
I go for laser hair removal with Gayla and I am seeing some really good results. From the beginning, Gayle has been very communicative about what to expect, and asks about my comfort and how my regrowth is progressing. Because I'm so light-skinned, she started me on a lower setting and increased it only as she made sure my skin could take it. She's really sweet and does a great job!
The scar on my face where Dr. Jihn removed my mole and took off "a little skin" is totally unacceptable for such a routine procedure. And their "acne surgery" facial deal is a complete joke. I even called Blue Shield to warm them of her scam. My facial lady, Cheryl at SkinFantastik, is 1000 times better than Dr. Jihn's inept staff.
Dr Jhin is everything you want in a dermatologist. I was referred to her by my PCP. I was in for acne scar and breakout that troubled me for the last ten plus years. She listened to my history of past treatments and noted throughly. Dr. Jhin is very knowledgeable and approachable, and was very clear about what to expect. Now my skin has improved so much with laser treatment and facials. I found her prices to be very reasonable. At the end, right diagnosis and treatment saves me money and time! I am exceptionally impressed by Dr. Jhin and would refer anyone there in a heartbeat.
Irene's facials saved my sanity (ok, my face, but why get technical). I swear that I was in this office every month during my pregnancy because my hormones were crazi...er. Dr. Jinh is also to the point and our appointments go by really quickly, which is something I prefer. I have to admit that sometimes it does get backed up in the office, so when seeing Dr. Jinh, you should allot an additional 30 minutes for waiting to see her. If this review were just for Irene and the rest of the staff, I'd give this 5 stars. However, because of the wait when seeing Dr. Jinh, I have to take off one star.
Well my fiance comes here so i'll write a review for him. He loves it here! the service is great, friendly staff and Marie is amazing!!!
I made appointments for a mole check back in April (the review is a little post-dated, I know) for both myself and my husband. The front staff was very cool, I didn't even get a hello when I walked in the door. They were running late, and about 15 minutes after my appointment time, put me in a room and asked me to out on a gown. They then left me there for a good 20 minutes in a 63 degree room with no clothes on waiting for Dr Jhin.
Dr Jhin's mole check was incredibly quick and superficial (though at least she checked my whole body, I've been to dermatologists who don't even do that). We then talked about my mild acne for a few minutes and she perscribed spironolactone and told me to ask the front staff about getting my health insurance to cover the aforementioned in-office acne treatments.
When I got dressed and walked to the front desk, Dr Jhin was arguing with her receptionist about a scheduling error, and I was ignored. I finally said something, and was told I could leave. I asked about the acne treatment insurance thingie, and was given a piece of paper. Apparently I needed to handle the insurance myself.
I walked away feeling really insignificant, and the whole experience occurred as unprofessional, especially the interaction between Dr Jhin and her receptionist, and the fact that I just stood there and she never even looked over at me. My husband was underwhelmed as well. We then got a bill for $290 per person, for a very brief, cursory mole check. And the spironolactone did very little to improve my acne.
I know good dermatologists are hard to come by, but sheesh.
The assistant Kelly seems too much confident but really superficial as far as giving explanation. I had three appointments for a mole check/surgery and stitches removal and never met the doctor once. Kelly totally lacked of explanations l.I felt like a patience who has to stay in a limbo and not be informed of what is going on. She didn't explain the reason why she decided to remove a mole instead of another and after the surgery I almost walked out without knowing that I had stitches on my shoulder. Luckily one of the nice receptionist s explained that I had to reschedule an appointment in order to remove the stitches. I am still wondering why the doctor never showed up...maybe botox injections are more important than mole surgeries ?
I had great care in the capable hands of Dr. Jhin, but the front desk staff at Premier was so rude that I sent Dr. Jhin a letter requesting a phone call and an apology. I received no response whatsoever. So, now I have a new doctor, Tannenbaum (415-956-8686); his front desk staff makes no pretense about being super polite, but at least they aren't outwardly obnoxious!
Came here for my first consultation with Dr. Jhin last week after being referred by my friend. She was very professional and friendly as we went over my skin history although she did seem a little busy. She eventually prescribed 2 things for me and I am looking forward to my next follow up visit with her next month. Unlike the some of the other reviews, I didn't have any problems with the office staff.
I have referred over two dozen friends to Dr. Jhin and every one of them has been as pleased as I. While I don't suffer major skin problems, I like that Dr. Jhin and her staff treat the problems I do have as though they are as life-threatening as I make them out to be. I always walk away with a prescription that wipes out the problem and I visit the office every month for a facial with Christine (aka "Acne Surgery" if my insurance company asks). The "Day of Beauty" is fantastic - I'm a huge fan of the laser hair removal. I even won the raffle and scored some fantastic Skinceuticals serums, sunscreen and face wash. I LOVE Dr. Jhin.
There are more in depth reviews under Premier Dermatology, but this review is specific to Dr. Jhin. The wait was really quite long, my appt was for 10am & at 10:45 she finally made her way into the room. She shook my hand while she was still holding her pen, which I thought very strange and then proceeded to glance me over, deem my issue a non issue and then that was it. Lickety split, so what was she doing those other 45 minutes?!
Love them! I had a pretty distracting case of melasma/cholasma after my 2nd pregnancy and finally decided to get some professional help. I was worried about having to go through painful laser surgery, but they turned me on to (less expensive) less painful IPL treatment that is working like a dream...I still have one more treatment to go, but there is no down time, and the pain is negligible.
Dr. Jhin is quick but professional and well versed on all the available products and techniques. Nurse Gayle performed the intense pulsed light procedure on my face, and did a great job!
Marie Jhin, the primary dermatologist at Premier Dermatology, is one of the best doctors I have ever worked with. She saved my life by diagnosing my melanoma at the earliest possible time. She is incredibly knowledgeable about her field, and has made a tremendous difference in my looks. I think she deserves 10 stars.
Dr Jhin rocks the house. She is attentive and knows what she is doing. I've been to many derm docs and she by far surpasses all the ratings.
I give her 2.5 stars. She spends no more than five minutes with a patient, she literally has one foot out the door from the time she comes in. You don't even have time to ask the questions you have. I should have told her I'm an MD, then I would have received the usual dr-dr courtesy, but alas I didn't. Hey Marie, a big shout out: SLOW DOWN!!! FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR PATIENTS!
I have been visiting Premier Dermatology for almost 2 years. While my visits are infrequent (1-2 times a year), I've always thought that the experiences were pleasant (not Great, but pleasant) from booking appt. over the phone to office visits. The doctors I've seen were great - they are patient and compassionate with my symptoms and understand what it does to a woman's self esteem. I am currently in my third trimester of pregnancy and my symptoms occurred again. While I searched the web regarding the topical treatment I usually receive and they all said that there is no evidence of negative effects on the baby, being a first time mother everything seems scary and I take cautions on everything. I called on Friday afternoon requesting to have a phone consultation with Dr. Jhin. The gentleman on the phone asked me what my concerns were, looked up my medical record, and said that he'd leave a message for Dr. Jhin to call me back. All I wanted to know is whether or not the topical treatments are safe during pregnancy before I make an appt and drive half an hour into the city and deal with traffic and parking. I called Monday to see if I can speak with another Dr. and this time the phone conversation was terrible with Irene, the lady who answered the phone. She was impatient when she picked up the phone - I could hear the heavy breathing when people are impatient and sigh through their nose. I explained that I was a patient of Dr. Jhin, and would like to speak to someone who can look at my medical record and let me know if the topical treatment is safe during pregnancy before I book an appt. She interrupted me a few times, and proceed to say that "did you stop the treatment? we recommend patients to continue their treatment until the doctors say otherwise" - I find this annoying because: A. My symptoms disappeared for about 6 months of this year and Dr. Jhin told me that it was okay to discontinue treatment when the symptom goes away B. Which part of 'I am 26 week pregnant' did Irene not hear? C. A front desk medical staff who takes appts and processes insurances probably is not qualified to give out medical opinions, especially to a woman who is pregnant She then proceed to: well, even if I leave a message for the doctor to call you, you still need to come in for an appt. SO WHAT IS IT GONNA BE, MISS?! I told her that I don't know why she is irritated, or if I irritated her somehow but I am a patient with concerns and that booking an appt. is not the issue, as long as an office visit is warranted. I asked her what her name was and she said: oh, so it's going to be like this?! Do you want to book an appt.? I said, yes, I'd like to book an appt. and also know your name. She then said: my name is Irene and I am at the front desk so I'll see you when you come in. Wow, does no one know that the front desk staff is like a face of a human that gives out impressions and represent the whole company? And we are talking about a medical establishment that shows you pretty faces online and in their office area, that talks about beautify your skin and makeups to your face, and the same office' has such a careless and non-compassionate human as its face to all their patients?
