NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could give this disgusting apartment complex zero stars. I don't even know where to start with this place.
Alright I'll start in the beginning. When I first came to look at this place the staff was beyond helpful and nice. They took us on a tour of the complex (keep in mind the outside only) The court yards are very nice and well kept...but it STOPS there.
Once we signed the lease everything turned to hell. We got the keys to our apartment it looked NOTHING like it was supposed to, and a complete different "lay out" & size then the supposed "model." It's dingy old and run down, half of the things didn't work upon moving in and when we called mantience to have them fix it it took FOREVER.
The plumbing is HORRIABLE!!!!!! I've learned to take 4 minute showers due to this place. You get in the shower and the water switches back and fourth between freezing cold and boiling hot. Also the kitchen sink drain is constantly getting backed up. Which brings me back to the maintence people. Our drain got backed up and filled with black stagnent water the second we turned on our dish washer (which is a complete joke by the way, you'll be lucky to fit 3 plates in it.) We couldn't figure out how to get it to go back down so we called matience....then 4 days later when they never came like they said they were going to the "next day" we called again....and another few days went by, by this time the water was smelling and growing mold on it, one final time we called threatening to with hold rent until the fixed it...and unbelievably they STILL DID NOTHING and jus told us that we'd be evicted if we didn't pay our rent. After about 2 weeks or so of waiting for them to fix this disgusting sink I finally called and lied and said a pipe had burst and water was shooting all over the apartment and everything was being ruined...with in 2 minutes they were knocking on our door.
The hallways are so scary and constantly smell like hot trash and are extremely stuffy.
There is SO SO SO MUCH crime...while living here (which has only been 4 months) my car has been broken into 3 times and someone started an arson fire in my complex which then had to be investigated by the fire department for 4 days...the complex did NOTHING to even acknowledge the fire and smoke damage and the campfire smell going through the hall ways for weeks after the fire. (I do have to admit the smell of burnt hallway smells much better then the usual smell of hot trash.)
The stairwells and elevators constantly have spilled beer, vomit and trash all over them. And speaking of elevators they are SCARY there! They're constantly breaking and the permits in them are YEARS expired!
And finally the staff....I've never met ruder more degrading people in my life. They start out nice and helpful until you sign your lease, then a switch. They are rude, they act like it's a hassle for them to do ANYTHING they're supposed to do as an apartment complex rental office. They lecture you and degrade you as if you were their child who got an F on a report card. They have the worst attitudes of anyone I've ever met in my life!!! AMANDA & HECTOR should be fired for the way they treat people.
I apologize this is so long I just wish I had someone there to tell me these things before I lived there, I'm counting down the days until my lease is OVER!!! -

I know when most people write reviews they write bad reviews, and I'm sure you are telling yourself that as you read reviews on Prado apartments, so you can justify living there. Please, please don't. I wish I had someone tell me not to live there when I first went to look at the place. I have lived in many apartments including some that were cheap in the ghetto and ALL were FAR better than this place.
First, when looking at the "model" apartment they have there, I was told our actual unit would have the same countertops in the kitchen as well as the same size closet in the bedroom. I was unable to see the apartment until a few days before we were able to move in and it was NOTHING like the model. Disgusting brown plastic wood-looking countertops in the kitchen and one-third the size of the closet space (which my boyfriend and I had to share....I kept most of my clothes in boxes because the closet was so small). Not only was this my first impression of the place, but the staff at Prado is HORRIBLE. None of them were very welcoming, it seemed like it was such a pain in the ass for them to do their job. They had a tendencing to talk down to me as well as make me feel very uncomfortale at times, like it was an inconvenience to answer any of my questions regarding the apartment complex. Especially HECTOR....just RUDE.
Next, as you may have already read...PARKING. I cannot express enough how much of a burden this is. If it is just YOU living here, this may not be an issue. However, the ONE parking spot my boyfriend and I were given was on the other side of the complex and street parking was most of the time closer than our assigned spot, that is if there was street parking. For the six months that I lived there I NEVER went out, or did anything because GOD FORBID I did, I would have to park miles away if I got home after 6pm. When you ask them about parking they will tell you there is plenty on the street and that you can put your name on a waiting list for a second spot which I did before I even signed the lease and never got that second spot seeing as the list is over a year long. This may seem like something that is not that big of a deal....but day after day of leaving an extra 10 min ealry so you can walk miles to your car is annoying after a while.
Also, maintenance, TERRIBLE. They don't replace lightbulbs in their own fixtures for you. After the first month of living here I had to go out and get a special bulb for the kitchen light because they wouldn't change it. The laundry facility constantly had either a broken washing machine or dryer, both of which stayed broke for at least a month before someone came to fix it. Also, I called a few times for some small things to be fixed in the apartment and when after two weeks it still hadn't been fixed, I would have to call again to get them to do it finally. Absolutely irresponsible staff.
This apartment complex not only put strain on my well being, but it also put strain on my friendships and relationship with my boyfriend because I would never be able to leave and was stressed over something to do with prado.
On a positive note...I only signed a 6 month lease and did clean the apartment spotless when I moved out and they were able to recognize that; therefore, I got most of my security deposit back. -

I lived here for two years right out of college, and this place was a dump. The manager's office was never open to pick up packages or put money on the laundry card. The indoor hallways were filthy. I had a parking space on the complete opposite side of the complex, which was scary for me needing to leave for work at 5 am (in the dark). I was chased through the hall by a drunk man one time. Awesome. My roommate's car was broken into 3 times. There was never any security to be found. Oh! And how could I forget the time the random drunk dude passed out just outside my bedroom window and puked ALL night.

First off, let me say I am not a super-picky or high-maintenance girl. Though I would not want to live in an insanely cruddy-place, per say, I'm pretty open if the location is good.
That being said, Prado apartments are horrible, just say no. My decision to move in here was basically forced (lease was up and no better prospect had been found) and I thought it looked like an alright place.
I was wrong.
At first glance, Prado apartments are pretty cute with their outdoor courtyard and pool area DO NOT LET IT FOOL YOU. The halls are terrifying to say the least, they look like something out of the SHINING. They are not well lit and incredibly stuffy. The elevators leak water when it isn't raining. Their "AC" is basically just a fan. Now, all of these things I could deal with....but then there is....
THE PARKING. Ok, they claim there is "plenty of street parking" but trust me, there is not. You are LUCKY if you find a spot on Rancho Mission after 4:30 (I usaully park all the way down the road, almost half a mile away). And your apartment will only get one reserved spot. Sidenote: they will also tow your car without so much as a phone call from ANYWHERE. I'm pretty sure they make a certain amount of $$ off this otherwise they wouldn't be so crazy about it. They towed my dad's rental car from an "office visitor spot" after he had been parked there for 20 minutes (there were other office guests spots open). The office lady told me they have the towing company patrol those spots EVERY HALF HOUR and they tow anyone, regardless if other spots are open for their office visitors or not.
THE CRIME. I've lived here about 2 months now and my car has gotten stolen. You can attribute it to bad luck if you'd like, but I've talked to some people and heard some things. The police officer who took my report said this is the one of the worst places in SD for auto theft. There are ALWAYS shady individuals around and I've actually been approached before. I stood my ground and then told him I was calling the cops, which scared him away, but STILL.
LOCATION. You can find better for the price. I've heard some people say "you get what you pay for" regarding these apartments, but I KNOW you can find better if you give yourself enough time and look hard enough. It's just not a fun/safe/nice area. Kinda close to grocery but thats the only perk, unless you like being stuck in stadium traffic.
I can see some people having an OK experience here if they lived by themselves and thusly only needed one parking spot....and had no problem dealing with the living-in-a-crud-hole atmosphere, but seriously STAY AWAY. -

In my opinion the Prado Apartments aren't all that bad, but I ended up finding a nice place (2br) in University Heights that was only $15 more than what I was paying for rent, and it wasn't my first pick of that price or quality.
I happen to be one of those people living by themselves so parking wasn't the worst, but is quite a pain when you want to have company over.
I do in fact happen to be one of those people who have called a tow truck many times due to someone parking in my spot, and every time I've called during the evening, I am given the run-around and usually wait for nearly an hour before said person moves their car
Regarding the close proximity to the stadium and grocery stores, your choice in 'grocery store' will change from Vons to 7-11 during football season, or any other time an event is going on at the stadium.
My next door neighbors weren't bad and mostly quiet with the exception of the 'occasional' weekly party, and many hallways filled with the aroma of certain familiar types of 'flora'.
And speaking of aroma, there's nothing more refreshing on an early Sunday morning than the smell of cheap beer, vomit, and urine in the elevator on the way down to the parking lot where I'll spend the next half-hour because the Chargers have a home-game, and the morons..fans are too excited about the game to let me out of my complex.
In my opinion, the Prado wasn't the worst place to live, but I would definitely call it the D student of the class when it comes to apartments. The outside of it looks good on the way in, but just because you can sprinkle diamonds and gold flakes on a turd, doesn't mean it's any less of a turd.
This was my first time living in a complex with a full staff, so I cant gauge it properly. If anything, the location would be the biggest deterrent. It's one of the cheapest places in Mission Valley, and very close to McCougar's aka MacGregor's.
The short version of the review: You can find better for a better price in North Park or OB. I should know, I only found 12 different places in both locations matching or better than my apartment at the Prado (or as my friend calls it, the PraDont)
