Just got home from dinner at Powow and felt the need to write my review right away on account of how pleasing my dining experience was.  Amesbury is a little bit out of my way, but it was definitely worth the 45 minute drive from Cambridge.  The dining room was fairly quiet, but it is a Thursday night afterall.  I'll structure my review using the same criteria used by Zagat.  Here goes:

Food:  In a word, fantastic.  My gf and I shared an appetizer of steamed PEI mussels and were very pleased with the quantity of mussels in the plate as well as the flavor of the broth.  I ordered the salmon tempura special and was equally impressed.  I usually don't order salmon at restaurants but I've also never had salmon tempura, so I felt compelled to try.  Glad that I did.  Salmon tempura skewers served atop a spicy lo mein...awesome.  My gf had the wild mushroom pasta and she enjoyed it.  I'll let her write her own review :-)  We finished with the apple bread pudding (even though we were full) and downed it in its entirety.  We didn't go wrong with any of our selections tonight and am fairly confident nothing on the menu could disappoint.

Service:  Another A+.  Our server, Sarah, was attentive and courteous.  What more can you ask for?  She gave great recommendations all around.  It's extremely important for businesses to employ the best and brightest and Powow has that in Sarah.

Decor:  The dining room is very cool in that the ceilings are sky high and the lighting very unique.  Even the bar is interestingly lit.  We sat near a window in the back overlooking the Powow River waterfall.  A great date destination!

Overall, both my gf and I were very impressed with our entire dining experience.  Definitely a restaurant worth driving to.

Great atmosphere, great food! get a table by the back window by the fireplace overlooking the Pow Wow River, great date spot. This place was a total suprise. Had the Thai Seafood Stew which was totally LOADED with jumbo shrimp, big scallops mussels and fresh veggies simmered in a delicious spicy coconut milk! my date had Mussels in a curried broth which were also good but I still preferred my dish. We started with the Powow Tasting Selection which included several  appetizers from the menu, Shrimp tempura (delicious), duck springrolls which were ok, the Portobello Caprese (phenomenal) which was a grilled juicy portabello mushroom over buffalo mozzarella with fresh Rosemary-balsamic glaze. The  Starburst Scallop was fantastic, it was a large sea scallop wrapped in phyllo dough deep fried over mint cilantro and a basil salad, EXCELLENT!!! will definitely return to this place........

OK, so it may have been the Channel 7 drama "Power of the Powow" reporting that lead us in initally, but we would definitely go back.  The service was great.  The food was delicious and very well portioned.  We had the duck steak and the braised chicken.  Would definitely recommend this "creative cuisine".

I think that Fusion Confusion cuisine can definitely be taken a bit overboard, it's a tricky thing to pull it off properly. Leave to chef/owner Francis to walk that line and in doing so deliver truly unique dishes. Sesame encrusted Salmon, over soba with a home made pineapple ponzu sauce? DONE. Swordfish over lightly spiced mango rice? No problem. Traditional Bouillabaisse or Coq Au Vin? Any time. Spiced chocolate brownies w/cinnamon ice cream? You bet. Francis does it all. The staff knows their stuff and love their wine.  The kitchen is open with lots of energy radiating from there. The restaurant itself is very open, featuring a random ensemble of old furniture and art - very eclectic and VERY cool. Better yet, Amesbury downtown has transformed itself into a beautiful cozy little area. This is the " IT " place on the North Shore. No wonder all the Newburyport locals flee their own town to eat there.

I don't get why people are giving this place good reviews. Our food took about an hour and fifteen minutes to come out. And the rice was stale in all of our dishes. It was absolutely ridiculous, and I couldn't believe it. When we brought it up, they said that we could order another side for an additional charge. Instead, I will just hope to God that I never end up eating here again.

First and last time to Powow.  Waitress was slow, got the orders wrong, and didn't serve the meals as ordered. Loud music in the background. More of a beer joint than a restaurant. Won't go back.

really enjoy this restaurant and find the food -mainly have had fish- really nice, always fresh and flavorful. They do a great job with side dishes, too- tending toward more vegetables rather than boring rice (love the way they do cabbage). We used to always have very good service too, but the last few times we went it was sketchy, kind of poor timing, and especially this one guy we got the last two times we sat downstairs is such a dolt. haven't been back in a few months so maybe he's gone. Other than service, though, I think this is a very nice place, at least for seafood dishes.
