Service was lacking, Beer is VERY Hoppy (even the Hefeweisen and the Belgian White). My wife likes the pizza and pork sandwich and salads. Sweet Potato Fries are great. I like the diet coke.

My rating system:
Things To Die For = 5 stars
Things To Die From = 1 star

The vibe was rockin' but our server had no personality (though all the servers were hot chicks).

Started out with the Crab and Artichoke Dip. It was ok, nothing special.
I had the Powerhouse Curry and it was pretty good. Spicy and huge quantity. I tried my friends sweet potato french fries. They were good, but I love all sweet potato fries.

The guy at the table next to us sent back his burger once for being undercooked, then got it back charred and greasy. He gave up and they took it off his check, but his server avoided their table and only apologized once when she was giving them their check.

I thought that this was okay.  The waiter we had wasn't very personal but, it is a bar and you have to keep that in mind.  The food was pretty good.  I like the different selections of ales and beers.  I had the seasonal and I enjoyed it.  Pretty lively crowd when I was there but it was a Friday night at happy hour.  I do feel it is over priced food.  Not your typical bar food, but different none the less.  I live around the corner so the convince factor is great, closer then the ram.  I had the Jamaican pulled pork.  Different ,good but different.  So I'd say try it for yourself, then make your own opinion.

I went here on a date with my fiance and it was a terrible experience. The salad I ordered tasted terrible, it was bitter and some of the lettuce was brown, the chicken had an odd flavor and made me scared to eat it.
The waiter was awful and came to our table twice. Once to seat us, and once to take our order. Then a nice long while later a different person came to give us our food.

Actually, the only edible part of both our meals were the bread sticks. We wound up leaving and eating at home because their food wasn't just bad, it was inedible.

Had heard about this place and decided to drop in for some dinner, and was underwhelmed. Our waiter didn't seem to care we were there, no personality, and while he did stop to check on us, no personality once again. The food was eh, the chicken picatta was not flavorful, my while my wife did enjoy her sandwich. I don't know if I will go back.

Worst Customer Service EVER
My guess is being a popular place in a small town affords you the "right" to be an absolute ass to your customers. But not in my book.

I wanted to take my Parents out to a nice place for their anniversary. Puyallup certainly does have a shortage of "nice" restaurants, but the Powerhouse had caught my eye and it has been a place my Father wanted to try out for sometime, since they live within a mile of the place.

So on my way down from Seattle, I called the Powerhouse to make a reservation. The first person who handed the phone act like I spoke a foreign language (born and raised in... you guessed it Puyallup)and handed me off to a manager.

Now comes the fun part.
So I tell him that I will have 4 people coming for dinner at 7pm on a Friday and that I would like to reserve a table. This manager acts as though I just asked him to sacrifice his first born then explains to me in the most condescending tone that they do not take reservations, and certainly not for a "large table". He tells me that we will just have to show up and wait for a table. I asked him if they had a waiting list that they could put us on and he told me No. I asked how long is usual wait time on a Friday night and he said and I quote "Lady how am I supposed to answer that, we are a busy place." I'm taken a bit aback by this snappy and rude response so I politely explained to him that my Father had Cancer and it was too tiring for him to sit around and wait and is there anyway that they can make an arrangement or is there a better time for us to show up where there would not be a wait.

His response was and I quote:
"Look Lady, you will just have to come when you come and if there is a wait you can wait like everybody else. Friday nights are one of our busiest nights and I don't have time to deal with this."

And he hung up on me.

I live in Seattle and I have friends who own a successful restaurant on Greenlake. I work in the Food Industry and I have worked with Chefs to Magazine Editors to Cookbook Writers and NEVER in all my days have I EVER experienced such abominable treatment from a restaurant or its personnel.

From the rude and condescending treatment we received just over the phone, this place will NEVER see my business.

****This happened in June of 2006, I am only now re-posting it this review (which I have made on several dining sites) now here on Yelp so others can avoid this place like the plague.
And an update - my Father passed away in June of 2007.  The point of taking him there was that he lived fairly close to it and he had always wanted to go to Powerhouse, it never happened for him due to their lousy, sub-par managerial and absolutely abhorrently rude customer service.

Love this Place
#1 the Decor... Great design on a local historical theme and done well!, great atmosphere to eat and go or hang out in for a bit
#2 Good food, so far everything I've had there has been good - excellent
#3 pleasant personable and informative staff
#4 Best of all Great Beer brewed right there in the building, I haven't had a bad one yet ( I'm slowly getting to taste each one)

all this place needs now is a coffee shop to hang out in.

Went there just once, last week.
It's a bit out of my way, but some of my hockey buddies had recommended it.

PLUSES:
- Nice building
- Nice deco for a brewhouse.
- The Beers are good

MINUSES:
- Can get too busy
- Pub/Brewery style obviously.
- Staff seem too busy (that as a Saturday night).

Anyway, they are known for their ribs so that's what i ordered(special on Saturday's), and man those were really good
I got a full rack and that was Huge, and more importantly very tasty.

Some of the best ribs i had in a long time, they where falling of the bone, moist and tender.
What i like the most about it was the sauce, i get turned off by overly sweet(ketchuppy) or too vinegary sauces.
This one had a great balance, some tangyness and quite a bit of spice (it has peppercorn and jalapeno on it).
It's quite spicy but not so much has to cover the taste of the meat, and ordering one of their cold brew too take down the heat is a great match.

I noticed large groups (over 4-6 people) had to wait a lot for a table, or had to be split against their will, so might not be great for large groups, or at least call first.

Note: Sunday's special is prime rib (haven't tried yet).

Like all the other brewpubs my friends and I visit, we usually end up at them after a long hike or trip to Mt. Rainier.  Our recent visit to Powerhouse was no exception.  I've been here twice and remember liking Powerhouse better from my first visit.  Anyway, they have a great selection/variety of brews and you can also get a schooner sized beer if you're the DD.  Their food was just A-OK this time but it could have been the fact that I got a dinner entree for lunch and ate way more than I should have.  I do love the decor inside with the antique power line insulators and science museum like displays of light and power.  Powerhouse is also a WABL member so be sure to collect a stamp for your passport!

Why go to The Ram when there's The Powerhouse?! Better food, atmosphere and beer! If you're into dark beer my husband loves the Cream Stout. We've never been disappointed with any of the food! Only bad thing is that the restaurant is small in size so I wouldn't recommend going with a large party.

The decor is cool, the food good...and the beer the best! Plus you can bring home your  beer that was made there...try the Scottish!

I really enjoy this restaurant because I feel that the decor is unique and interesting (the name comes from the fact that the building was originally a power plant, opened in 1907!).  After it closed down, it was a rundown, abandoned building until '94 when the current owners opened and refurbished it - now it looks awesome, with many unique items from the original power plant on the walls.

To me, the food I've ordered is great (pizza, chicken strips, various salads), and the portions are huge - definitely need quite a few people to help you wolf everything down.  Another plus is the beer made right there, and sold at a terrific price!  I think the pints are $2.75 and 5 taster glasses are just $5!  It is true that if you go on Fri/Sat night, there will be a long wait.  The restaurant isn't that large and they do seem understaffed.  We waited about 20 minutes for a table, and most servers walked right past the waiting area without a glance at everyone standing around.  However, once we were seated we were waited on promptly and received great service.
