Mhmmm. Funny thing because I've lived in this city for practically my whole life, and I've always walked by this place but I've never stepped into this building before, until yesterday.

I feel as if the name was misleading because when I hear "Potbelly," I don't think of sandwiches, but instead--soups and pots... hahaha yeah, that was random.

So, I ordered myself a "a Wreck" on Italian, and that is just what I got yesterday. It was so yummy. I also bought a potato salad and that was good as well.

The people working there are very efficient, friendly and I didn't have to wait long (although it was lunch time), so that's a plus!!

According to the boyfriend, the soups are really good too. The creamy potato is his fave. They have certain soups on different days, and they serve creamy potato on Wednesday and Thursday :).

Check this place out :). You won't regret it!

Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't really like to review chains, but I feel it's necessary to review this particular location because I come here at least once a week.

What separates my Potbelly's sandwich works from the others:
1. The people: super friendly--they make this store stand out.
2. It's reliably tasty: The sandwiches actually taste better than other locations--fresher veggies, maybe? For lack of healthier options and because I was in a hurry, I tried the Potbelly's in College Park and noticed a considerable taste difference.
3. Proximity to me: This is the clincher. I have a Cosi near me (which I can only take in random spurts because the smell in the stores sometimes gets to me), and a bunch of smaller mom & pop type places that seem of questionable quality.

So, in summary, Potbelly's has turned into my go-to because it's quick, reliable, and pretty cheap to boot.

I love me the Wreck sandwich. But the chicken salad is good too. Get hot peppers, if that's your thing. But this place is really really good and super cheap, by comparison.

The oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and those "magic" bar thingies, are AWESOME!!!

Plus, the service is super fast and efficient. Bravo!

Wow - I'm really surprised to see all these great reviews. I guess I was there on a bad day or something. My friend and I popped in and ordered the wreck and the Italian. The sandwiches were ok, but in a city like Philly where food is king, they were really nothing special. Sorry for the short review, but my only real recommendation on this place is to walk by and go to Sarcone's for a real sandwich.

Potbelly's is a generic chain desperately trying to masquerade as your quirky local deli. They're everywhere, but they aren't as prominent as Subway or Quizno's, so there are a fair number of people who may see one and genuinely think it's a local oddity.

They are seriously working overtime to create an inside atmosphere of down-home-cum-nutty decor, but it is so transparently corporately stamped that it's hard for even the most non-skeptical person to not roll their eyes.

The location at 12th and Walnut looks like every other location I've ever been to, and the food tastes the same. There is nothing remarkable about their offering; if you like sandwiches and soup, you'll like this. The biggest flaw as that there are some items - specifically the soups - that are only available on certain days. That's really irritating; if I want potato soup, I shouldn't have to wait until Thursday.

Look; there's nothing WRONG with Potbelly, but don't be fooled by the "Diagram of a Preppy Girl" puzzle embossed under glass and built into your table. This is generic sandwiches at their most average.

A note - whoever is marking this place as wheelchair accessible or having outdoor seating - what are you smoking? There is absolutely positively NO outdoor seating, and there are steps to get into the foor door with no ramp - NO wheelchair accessibility.

Awesome & Under $5 in the Gayborhood:
+ Potbelly sugar cookies ($.99)
+ Potbelly Banana milkshake ($2.69)

The banana milkshake is fantastic, but the best sweet thing there are their sugar cookies. They taste like they're not all the way cooked - the outside edge is crunchy but the inside is soft and doughy. God, they're so good. Big crunchy sugar crystals on top. Dang. For a month, I thought I was developing a lard allergy because I kept getting stomach aches after eating them, but they tasted so good I couldn't resisting getting one occasionally and then I realized had the stomach flu and it wasn't the cookies so all was excellent. What a relief. I was worried there.

I've taken a star off because I've ordered group lunches from Potbelly so many times that I'm tired of their sandwiches (dude, just go to Old Nelson) but I can say confidently that they're reliable.  I've had better luck with lunch orders than Sally F for groups ranging from 10-20 people. Their lunch boxes are crowd pleasers -- people love it. It's classier than pizza but not obscenely expensive, like Marathon Grill's catering: $7/person for for a sandwich, chips, coleslaw/potato salad, & chocolate chip oatmeal cookie.

Great sandwiches for cheap! You can definitely eat it in one setting, though you may be stuffed.  The soups are pretty good here too.  I have yet to try the milkshakes but wow they look scrumptious.  Some meetings I've gone to have ordered food from here and still I think this place is awesome.

This is also the first place I was introduced to orangina, so potbelly has a special place in my heart :)

Humans are creatures of habit. I'm the type of person who sticks with the same order once I found an item I'm satisfied with. In the case of Pot Belly, it's an Italian on wheat w/ mayo, tomatos, oil, and seasoning. Without fail, I order this same sandwich, and I seriously cannot come up with any complaint in any way, shape, or form.

For $4.19 (as of 10/08), you get a neat little toasted package and, a Philly rarity, great service! Contrast this with, say, a $7 fast food combo down the block. Yeah, I thought you might agree with me.

I broke my "sandwich + chips + soda" habit and grabbed a "dreamsickle" (I guess Creamsicle is trademarked) milkshake. Well, hey, I think I found a new habit to follow! The shake was a real treat.

My only possible complaint is the size of above said sandwiches and milkshakes. If you're used to giant Philly cheesesteaks, foot long Subway sandwiches, and drinks that can't fit in your cup holder, you just might be disappointed. But, hey, maybe it's a good thing these things aren't so huge...

BEST SANDWICHES EVER FOR $4.19
Why go to Subway or Quizno's when this is around?

The Wreck or the Italian.

$4.19 for delicious goodness???  I'm addicted! Sure, the stages of ordering/paying can get confusing--esp. if more than 3 peeps are in line--but that's the staff's problem (hence, probably why they are not as UBER-friendly as they were, say, 7 months ago...)

Cheap, delicious, addictive. They also have ok soups, ice cream and shakes, and the Shiela's Bars are sooooooooooo good.

Just don't get too excited about the PB&J Sandwich--is just the jelly and peanut butter for the same price. Kind of a rip-off--needs banana's or something.

And order online to escape the ordering bungle! Worked like a charm every time for me.

Potbelly's gets 5 stars because it is impossible to say anything negative about the establishment.  All of the sandwiches are good(my favorites are the meatball, roast beef, and my own special concoction of roast beef with marinara sauce).  The prices are cheap.  I always walk out full and satisfied.

Their soups are the hidden gem of Potbelly's.  They are of surprisingly high quality and serve to take up the extra little bit of stomach storage capacity that the sandwich has neglected to fill.

It's a chain...meh! But, that stated, as chains go they seem to have their stuff together. I abhor lines so I tend to go right before the midday rush. I've had virtually everything on their "menu" and nothing has disappointed. I'm currently enjoying an awesome bowl of chilli. It's bold, meaty and spicy just how I like it. For an extra kick at no extra cost, ask for a side of peppers to dump in the bowl. If only they served beer. Alas.

Found this place when NYPD pizza wasn't open.

I've been there twice, both on Sat. nights
first for the PBJ (was seriously jonesing for a PBJ)
second for a PBJ and Chili

sandwiches were smallish and good.

had some green tea based diet soft drink that went well with it.

I'd go there again.

PotBelly rocks! The hot peppers are a must--they are what really make the sandwich. You need to ask for extra! For price-atmosphere and solid, good sandwiches this is where to go.  It's a little toasty and awesome!  Who cares if it's a chain.

I love Potbelly's!!!!  The best things about it are the milkshakes, the hot peppers, and the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  Lots of people are unaware of their salad.  Potbelly's can make a mean Italian salad, so if you aren't feeling the sandwich, but everyone else is doing it....

I first discovered Pot Belly at the airport in Chicago and thought it was amazing.  The one here in Philly is pretty good as well.  The sandwiches are good but smaller than those you'd get at other sandwich chains.  One complaint is that the last two times I've been there, they have forgotten to include all the ingredients in my salad.  The first time they left out the croutons; the second time they left out the cheese even after they asked me what cheese I wanted.  On a side note, who in their right mind would pay $4.19 for a PB&J sandwich?!

My office ordered lunch for about 40 people and I was sent to pick it up. The secretary is super organized, and had sent the fax over twice and confirmed the order, all a week in advance. When i got there they had no idea what i was talking about. and no, she didnt accidentally send it to the wrong location. they did manage to make the sandwitches in about a half hour, even on top of thier lunch rush, and they charged me half price for the major screw up, but i wouldnt order catering from them again.

There could be more sandwich choices for a vegetarian but the salads and sandwiches are okay. The only reason I return is for the Stewart's Key Lime soda, which I can't find anywhere else in Philadelphia!!! If you haven't tried it, it is an amazing drink!

I'd already been to the Potbelly's in Ann Arbor, which was pretty good and very cheap. So I had an inkling of what this place should have been. The Walnut St. store did not disappoint me. The staff was very courteous and prompt. I had the Italian sandwich with hot peppers, which was tasty. I've had there vegetable soup there and its pretty good as well. Not to mention they carry a good selection of bottled drinks.  Very reasonably priced food and a nice pleasant atmosphere.  I'll be back, count on it.

Wow, it's about time! I e-mailed Potbelly multiple times after realizing I'm not a big fan of the ever-so-popular philly cheesesteak, there's *finally* a location in the city. Yay! :) The sandwiches are so much better.
