GORGEOUS park in the middle of the financial district. Beautiful fountain with nice breeze in the summer. A hidden gem! Perfect for wedding photos as it is quiet here during the weekend.

Um, nobody told me that Post Office Square was pretty now... Not cool, guys. Not cool.

It's a beautiful green oasis dead in the center of millions of tall buildings. I'm jealous I don't work around here, cause I'd easily become a regular. Must be a great place to enjoy a summer lunch!

Clean benches line a covered walkway, which I can imagine is a likely photo-op, or great place for those of whom forgot their SPF coverage.

A little kid was running around in the fountain last night having a grand ole time. My friend said I should hope she forgets it's there, cause we frequent bars down the street, and in the warm summer nights she would want to run through the fountains too, and by this, I think she means push me into it...

Well done, Boston park making people! I'm impressed!

We were still talking about how nice it was while getting drinks across the street, and our bartender said at night it's all lit up and very romantic. He suggested we stop by again when the sun is down.

I would consider PO Square one of the best hidden gems in town. It is located right in the middle of the financial district. During lunch there is some of the best people watching in town. There is a great coffee shop there and they hand out these pillow pads for everyone to sit on the grass.

Post Office Square is a great little green space to eat lunch, breakfast or to just step outside of your office for fresh air. The people watching is usually pretty good and you should probably expect to give at least one tourist directions to Old City Hall or Faneuil Hall. There is a little coffee shop on the corner and a nice fountain that you can sometimes find kids playing in. Plenty of shady seats. I actually kind of hate when they have the string quartet playing during lunch, though. It makes eating lunch feel pretentious.

People...People! This is called the GREEN BEACH. Although I actually just got the whole Busch Gardens joke and touche my friend. When the grass isn't being aerated (which for some reason they do approx 10x/year) you can lounge on the lush grass, plus you don't have to worry about staining your Theory suit (maybe BB for the guys) because they provide little cushions to sit on. If you opt not to sit on the grass, there are tons of benches and walls to sit on.

Be sure to bring your aviators because you're about to do some serious people watching/staring. Sometimes...only sometimes, the Jesus guy with all of the offensive posters will wander over from North Station to babble nonsensically in the middle of the green. The only thing funnier than this is watching the security guard try to kick him out. All the while, there's a string band (harp included) playing for your musical enjoyment.

This meat market is packed with Boston's finest young professionals. So, get out of whatever sales meeting you have; this is where the true "prospecting" in Boston takes place.

My office building is located right next to this park and I absolutely lurrrrve ladies lunches with my financials when the weather is nice.

There are plenty of places to plant your buttum whether it be on a bench, the green grass, or stone walls. Fountains and birdies create a peaceful and beautiful ambiance when you're nibbling sandwiches with your #1 fag hag.

There's also some random cafe lurking in the corner with outdoor patio tables. They didn't seem mad or chase us with brooms when we ordered food from elsewhere and used their tables.

But beware, the birds expect to be fed. They will pretend to be your bff and be all cutesy hopping around at your feetsies when all of a sudden - BAM - a pigeon will try to steal your sandwich from right out of your hand. True story.

The perfect lunchtime retreat for all of us yuppies who work in offices downtown. Amen to this little getaway! Here's just a few of the many things I love about this spot:

    1. They provide public cushions to sit on! This is so we professionals (?!) don't get dirt and grass stains all over our fabulous business casual ensembles. How cool is that?

    2. There is almost always a band playing! They play... hmmm... old time/ rag time type music? Whatevs, it's a group of old dudes who rock out and help bring some extra joy to my lunch hour.

    3. It's right smack in the middle of it all... There's a Z Square cafe right there in the square, plus it's super quick walking distance (within 2-3 blocks) of a million other favorites, like Boloco, Herrera's cart, or the incredible Boston Kebab House, just to name a few. Grab some take out or BYO salad/sandwich/shishkabab and veg out in the grass.

    4. It's pretty! They've done a great job of creating a nice, fluffy lawn space to sit on, gorgeous flowers lining the whole park, and clean, pretty walkways to lead you through.

    5. There's a fountain. Who doesn't love a fountain? Best part of the fountain is to run underneath it on hot days. But then you go back to work all wet, and that can be hard to explain. Personally I think it's worth it, but it's your choice.

    6. A+ people watching. This is THE hangout for all the other 24-32 year olds who work downtown. Many of them are single, and some are even attractive. Go, singles, and hit on each other!! They say Boston is a tough town to meet people?? Pssssh. Clearly whoever said that hasn't dined in Post Office Square.

    Do it.

I love Post Office Square. Grab a coffee from the nearby Dunkin Donuts or a smoothie from Robeks and relax on a bench with a book, your I-pod, or people watch for a few hours. I often come here twice a week for a few hours at a time. It's so convenient and doesn't have the sketchiness of Boston Common. Enjoy the live music, soothing fountain, or beautifully landscaped grass and flowers. Seriously, the grass here is probably the greenest in Boston!

The maintenance guys who work at the park are nice and will bring you a coushin should you be sitting without one.

Post Office Square is also known as Pickup Park, which I didn't know until a month or so ago (thanks to Yelp!). Since then, I've been picked up at Pickup Park. I also have a terrible habit of running into my ex here. Go figure.

Beautiful park in the middle of the financial district to take a few minutes and relax during lunch time.  I don't find it's the place to spend a very long time or seek out if you don't work nearby, but if you do....well worth a visit.  Nicer crowd than other parks in the city, but it's not large enough to go for a decent walk.   The beauty is impressive enough that you can easily forget there is parking underneath it.

I have a few friends who call this park as 'Bush Gardens' in reference to the very lovely young women who congregate here at lunchtime during the summer. Seriously, this place is like Tia's without the overpriced drinks or ear-splitting music. I've heard about several romances blooming along with the flowers that separate the park from Congress Street.

Seriously though, this place is awesome. With the fountains, greenery, and peaceful music you almost forget that you're in downtown Boston - awesome, considering that many of the people congregating here during the day are doing so to forget about their work for a little while. There are even cushions for you to sit on so you don't get grass stains on your ass. Just watch out for the pigeons, they're everywhere and have no qualms about flying right into your head or hopping over your lunch.

Spring and summer, this place is full of win. Sit by the fountain, soak up the sun, tune out the world, and enjoy a book and a bite. Or, if you're that sort, oggle the teeming masses of suits and couriers.

Winter and fall time however, this place is a bit chilly. Despite the fact that it's still beautiful once the green starts to wilt I'm not so much a fan.

    Freaking love PO Square.

I used to work a couple blocks away and would head here nearly every day that it was open.  Now my office is more like a ten+ minute walk, and so I don't make it down as often.

I never went during 'prime' lunchtime, it's nothing but a meat market then.  But go around 2ish, and oh glorious one, it's magnificent.  Grab a cushion, or 2 or 3, plop down with a book or your lunch, or to take a nap, and enjoy the city sounds, or occasionally the live music playing for you.

I'm so happy it's PO Square season again!

Post Office Square in the summertime...

Especially in this summer of 08, when it rains more than it is sunny - much more - Bostonians can appreciate the simple loveliness that is Post Office Square.  Being from the Washington, D.C. area, I am very used to city parks, little oases of green amidst the concrete jungle.  Boston, apparently, also has these to offer, particularly in POS.

My favorite part of POS is the charming canopy of plants and flowers through which you can stroll or sit.  Yesterday, a harpist was tuning up, an older man was walking his grandchild around and around the Square in a stroller, and business-folk (people with real jobs, not like me!) chatted and took a break from the daily grind.

On a nice day PO Square can be just the downtown haven that you need when your day makes you want to hurl your monitor out of a 14th story window.  Sitting on the grass and watching the fountain while you listen to the quartet they have once a week or so can make you forget the concrete jungle surroundings during that glorious 1 hour lunch break.  It can get crowded but is mostly unbeknownst to business douches so the quality of lunchtime companions is usually pretty high.  Just watch out for GreenPeace and look forward to a pleasant afternoon before you have to return to whatever nightmare awaits you in the office.

If you work in the financial district in town then you most likely know about Post Office Sq's park.  But if you haven't you definitely should go check it out.  The park is a great getaway during work if you want to sit on the lawn, benches, or near the fountain.  During the summer they offer free seat cushions to sit on the grass...where the sun shines for at least 3-5 hours straight... They have either a small band or one person playing music (like banjo, guitar, etc) under one of the pergolas... There is a great small deli that is there as well if you don't brown bag it... There is a fountain at one end and surrounding the park there are benches or a granite wall that you can sit on.    If you are a people watcher, like me, then all I do have to say it's prime people watching..ANY TIME!  :)
There are plenty of places to grab food and bring it over to the park, that is what I do...either brown bag it or grab food somewhere...grab a cushion, take of my shoes, and read a book...  it's so relaxing!

Post Office Square on a beautiful summer day is the perfect remedy for the working world blahs.  At lunchtime, this place totally comes alive.  I'll usually grab a "butt cushion", sit on the grass in the sun, and eat some noms while listening to the violinist/cellist/whoever's playing that day.  It's glorious and perfectly located in the financial district...no touristy types are going to end up here!  It's also a great place to people watch, or pretend you're 5 again and hop around in the fountain.  Loooove it!

Post Office Square, occupying the space between Congress, Milk, Pearl, and Franklin Streets, is a venerable oasis in the concrete jungle that is the Financial District. During the heat of lunch hour, it has some of the best people-watching around. There's no better way to spend a summer lunch break then here, plopped down on a free cushion, lunch in hand (there are plenty of choices nearby), basking in the warm midday sun. There is often free music as well, which further adds to the ambience. It does tend to get a bit crowded on the nicer days - but the more the merrier, and you can always eke out a spot somewhere, if not in the shade. Don't be surprised to see a guy in a suit, probably making at least five times your salary, taking a noontime siesta here. Post Office Square is the great equalizer - the place where CEOs, business hoes, interns, yuppies, and skater punks alike congregate to get away for a bit. If you work within walking distance of here, this park is a perfect lunchtime getaway. Five stars without a doubt.
