We were pretty excited to score a room at a Marriot for $100/night, but then again, who travels TO Portland for winter vacation?

It was a decent location, a few blocks away from the nearest MAX light rail stop. The staff is friendly and accommodating. But most memorable was the comfortable bed and the 6 (SIX!!) fluffy pillows. I like the "quiet room" on our floor (16th). It has extra amenities including a communal fridge, microwave, plates, even a thermos of cider. Loved the little bottles of soap and shampoo they provided -- all from the Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy collection.

For a very affordable room ($100 a night for deluxe king with city view on top floor!), we were definitely pleased with our stay. Would book here again if we're ever in town!

The royal treatment. Great location. Comfy stay. Yummy food.

The staff at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront go above and beyond to make your stay/event special. From the moment you pull up to the valet, you are gently greeted and handed off from person to person, guiding you to a very helpful front desk staff member. Every time I've stayed here it always gets me. I'm just waiting for the paparrazi to start taking pictures of my arrival with my hair blowing in the wind... ok... maybe I've got a little imagination but seriously, these people take customer service to heart.

The rooms are clean and modern. The beds are extremely comfortable and the view of the river and city are beautiful. The shower also has good water pressure... It's the weird things that I notice. Someone at the Marriott had heard that it was a special occasion for my husband and I, so we had a special treat waiting for us in our room. How sweet.

Their sports bar, Champions, is great. The lunches are great. Try the specials, there is always something worth having. The only bad thing about my experience at Champions was the breakfast experience. We were seated but none of the waitresses came to give us water, juice, coffee or anything. There were tons of them floating around too. They seemed to be helping every table except us. I'm just going to leave it as just being mistakenly overlooked, but that really really annoyed me at the time. Luckily it was a buffet so we could just go up and get our own food. About 2/3 of the way into our breakfast I did let the hostess know and she sent someone to get our drink order.

I can't wait to see what this place will look like after all the renovations. I've had 3 company holiday parties here, have stayed twice for fun, have recommended clients stay here, and my overall experience with the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront has been fantastic.

My wife and I stayed here last weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Immediately from the time we checked in to the time we checked out the staff was great. They congratulated us and had a special gift for us in our room. Very thoughtful!

Since we mostly walked around during our stay, the very soft bed was welcome in the evenings and we couldn't get enough  of the pillows.

    Great location, staff, and room!

Booked this location as part of a package deal through Priceline. Hotel was perfect: awesome, 11th floor view room, great, attentive staff, wonderful location. Very pleased with the value (I paid $89/night). Only downside was our flight via Spirit Airlines. Absolutely awful....got charged $200 more than supposed to. Traveler, beware.

I had several issues with my stay this week.

    1) Construction: There is construction going on outside the hotel at all hours of the day and night. It was a pain in the ass to find the front entrance with all the surrounding one way streets. I couldn't sleep to save my life with the sounds of jackhammers and trucks backing up at 3am in the morning. I booked this hotel months in advance, the least they could do is warn me about it and offer a refund if I wished to stay somewhere else.

    2) No Free WiFi: Are you kidding me? It's 2012! I can find free wifi in airports, coffee bars, planes. What a joke

    3) Valet only service: $30 to park my car in Portland? This isn't San Francisco. I can park my own damn car and it won'y take 10 mins to get it in the morning.

Overall a completely disappointing and frustrating experience.

My partner and I visited Portland over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate our 10 years anniversary, had booked a room at the Marriott downtown.    We didn't check in until late in the evening, and were informed when we did that the room we'd booked was no longer available.

The front desk support informed us that even though we'd requested a room with a king-sized bed when we made the reservation, it wasn't guaranteed.  And, that we would see that if we read the terms & conditions of the reservation.  No apology.  No attempt to find us a room with a king-sized bed at another Marriott in the area.  No offer to try and make it right for us.  Which was shocking to me personally given the number of times I'd stayed on Marriott-owned properties.

We were steaming mad that evening, and decided to check out the next day and book a room at another hotel.

The next morning, I went down and spoke with the front desk staff again - what a difference!  Although the concierge wasn't yet on duty, Michael put together the maps we needed for the day, and spent time helping me put the rest of our trip together.  When I brought up my experience from the night before, he introduced me to Raleigh, who listened attentively, really "got" our experience, apologized, and worked to make amends.

The front desk team went above and beyond to make up for our arrival experience.  And, when I informed them that we'd already booked at the Benson, actually called over there and let their front desk staff know we were coming, let them know we were celebrating our 10-year anniversary, and requested we be treated well.  We were greeted with a personalized "Congratulations" card, chocolates, and an offer to upgrade to one of the penthouses - which we took advantage of (it was great!)

I'll also write a review about the Benson and our experience there, but kudos to Raleigh, Michael, and the Marriott commitment to customer service.  Things happen, sometimes there's a bad apple in the bunch (or at the least, someone having a bad day) - they responded to the challenge beautifully, and focused on our customer experience.  I'll continue to stay at this - and other - Marriott hotels when I travel.

I'd give the hotel a 5 - if we'd had a slightly better experience when we arrived.

Convenient because it's downtown but it's on the southern most edge of downtown.

Daily changing spa water flavors (melon, orange, strawberry, etc.)

    Apples in the lobby.

Small rooms have just one desk chair and no arm chair.

Only one towel rack for the paper thin bath towels.

Marriott mattress is always a win but sheets felt like sandpaper.

I surprised one of my besties with a hotel room for her birthday so we don't have to travel far after a night full of cocktails and dancing. I booked the hotel through priceline because the price was "right".

The hotel room was nice. The bathroom was a bit on the small side. One thing that I totally love well maybe there are three things that I totally love which are their pillows. The bed was comfy, but those big square pillows oh my...I wanted to take them home.

Overall, it was a pleasant quick stay at Marriott and I will suggest this hotel to my relatives or friends from out of town to stay here. Especially during spring/summer when we have tons of festivals going on at Downtown Portland waterfront. :).

This is an older building in need of refurbishing -- and especially at these prices.

Typical business-traveler-on-an-expense-account operation where they ding you for everything -- from coffee in the morning, to internet service, to local phone calls, to on-site parking ($30/day).  (NOTE: You can generally park on the street free b/t 7:00pm and 8:00am, and pre-paid stickers are available starting at 6:00am).

The wall-mounted heaters are noisy.  The rooms are on the cramped side, with no in-room fridge, microwave, etc.  (They clearly want you to patronize room service, or the (occasionally-open) lobby gift shop.)

The antiquated, single-paned windows get all steamy, and let in LOTS of street noise.  Especially at 3:30am on Friday morning when they apparently run all the city's garbage trucks up and down Naito Parkway.

Views of the river aren't stellar -- and even worse when the windows steam up.

Located about 6 blocks from the MAX or Streetcar, and a long ways from most of the best downtown stuff, the location is okay, but not great.

Nice, helpful staff.  But they haven't been given a lot to work with.  Marriott seems to have decided to spend all their money on the public areas of the hotel.  The rooms -- not so much.

I ended up in Portland because my dad was having a procedure done at OHSU.  The Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront offered $20/night off to OHSU patients.  I believe my dad was charged $140/night.

The staff was very friendly.  We asked them for advice on places to go and had other questions.  They were more than happy to answer them.

Our room was a suite including one king-sized bed and a hide-a-bed couch with a complete kitchen and desk.   I stayed here with my mom and dad for two nights and it was great for all of us.   They offer free wifi which worked well.

The pool and hot tub were clean and set at the perfect temperatures.  The workout room is open 24 hrs/day (although I was too lazy to use it).

The complimentary breakfast was awesome.  Plenty of food choices.   Also, Monday through Wednesday night, they offer free dinner appetizers and FREE BEER & WINE.   Monday night was soup and salad.  Tuesday night was chips & salsa, crackers & cheese, carrots & hummus.  That was a nice and unexpected addition.

A few downsides... Parking was pricey.  $25/night for an area that has space around it to park.  I understand it for hotels downtown, but this one had plenty of space.   The hotel is a bit out of the way for anything Portland-ish but downtown IS walkable if the weather doesn't suck.

I would go back here, especially if I was going for something at OHSU.

I don't have a lot of occasions to review a hotel in my own city, but I won two nights at the Waterfront Marriott while I was at a conference.  Other people who did Not Win (for convenience we'll call them "Losers") argued that maybe because I live only 5 or 6 miles from the hotel that I didn't need this two night stay and should maybe give the prize back to be re-awarded.

But I said, "Oh no, Losers who did Not Win, we have roughly two teenagers and approximately twenty-seven pets and I really do need this two-night stay at a hotel in my own city."

And let me tell you, the folks at the Marriott treated us right.  First off, the prize certificate  said something like "City-view room" and what they told us we'd get when we called to make the reservation was more like "River-view, high floor, totally pimpin' room."  Maybe not exactly that but more or less.  And it was true.

Since we live 15 minutes away they let us split the two night stay into two different weekends (Valentines and our anniversary, conveniently enough) and gave us similarly awesome rooms both weekends.  Not only that, but on our anniversary we got back to the room from dinner to find an anniversary card signed by several staff members, a diminutive champagne bucket with a wee two-serving bottle of chardonnay on ice, and a bunch of chocolate mints.  And Ms. A does not eat chocolate mints so they were MINE all MINE!.  Um... so anyway.

The bed was awesomely comfortable and the room service was prompt as all get out.

I would just like to say to the Losers who did Not Win the two nights at the Marriott that I am totally glad that I won that prize and that if by some completely random chance I were to win it again at a future conference there is about zero chance I'd give it up.

Fantastic location by the waterfront, convenient by foot towards a night at VQ.

Room amenities is as expected, the hotel bar was wonderful and amazing especially since the bartender was a buddy of my cousin who frequents the same hotel and venue for business.

When I was a kid I used to look out airplane windows and wonder what it would feel like to lay on a fluffy cloud.  The beds here are the closest I've come to that imagined feeling.

It may not have the personality of other similarly priced hotels downtown, but it lacks nothing.  It's clean and comfortable. There's a pool. I love the local photography on the walls, a far cry from most hotel art.

I would tell you my parking secret, but then it wouldn't be a secret, so I'll just warn you that the valet parking is super expensive ($30/night).  Everything here is walkable anyway.  Speaking of walkable, walk away and eat elsewhere.  Unless you're in the mood for your regular hotel mediocre quality food (can't lie I've had their nachos a few times and was happy).  But there are so many other delicious Portland places to eat around there that a walk is a better option.

Reserve your room EARLY for Blues Fest Weekend, and you will not be sorry.  With a waterfront room, you can escape the crowd and shake it on your balcony, making thousands of blues hounds jealous in the process.

Without a deep discount, I might look for a  different place. There are plenty other hotels in dwntwn that have more personality and are closer to the happening areas of Portland.

There was no fridge in the room, the parking was ridiculously expensive, and the Internet was 12 dollars a day. I would expect those things to be affordable if not complimentary at the regular price. The hot tub, pool, and workout facility were pretty decent.

My advice: name your own price on priceline and if u end up there, it will feel like a steal.

It's not in the heart of downtown Portland, but downtown is so walkable that I highly recommend staying here because of the fabulous location on the water. It's right on Tom McCall Waterfront Park and it's also like a second away from the Hawthorne bridge, so you've got a quick and convenient way to get to the East side- or just jump on the 14 which is a block away.

The rooms are a bit small but that's not a big deal. The layout of the bathroom isn't ideal- I prefer when the sink is separate from the shower. Also- get some damn vents in the bathroom, lest you want people passing out from the unintentional steam room! The beds are heavenly. Give me. The TV wasn't HD but my mom commented that it was way better and clearer than her HD so there ya go.

Wifi was outrageously priced so eff that.

    No fridge???

I think breakfast was well worth it and it was delicious. Omelets, waffles, granola, yogurt, muffins, croissants, fruit, Voodoo Doughnuts, bagels/toast, hash browns, various meats that don't pertain to me. If you overeat like a true American (and stow some muffins and fruit in your purse for lunch/snack), you seriously don't need to eat until dinner (but Portland has such awesome food so I'm not sure if you really want to do that. Eh whatever, do it).

    AAA discount.

Gayle and I stayed here last weekend. We had a nice (albeit a bit small) room with a nice view, flat screen TV, Internet we didn't get charged for, and a comfortable vibe. The hotel is also within a reasonable walking distance to Downtown sites and of course the Streetcar. And since Gayle and I had such a nice time together and the young, helpful, and eager to please staff was so nice and in one case spot on with a dinner recommendation (Andina), I would easily rate our overall experience at 4 Stars.

There are 2 really confusing things about this Marriott. One involves how to actually drive into the front entrance area considering the one-way street grid Downtown and the counter-intuitive entrance flow. The other is how easy it is to mix this place up with the Residence Inn in the nearby River Place area. 2 or the 3 friends who picked us up at the hotel, ended up at the Residence. And based on the refreshment freebies, the roomier accommodations, and the number of Marriott points required, the Residence might have been a wiser choice.

When I travel, I'm on a pretty limited budget, and since I don't spend much time in the hotel room anyway, I like to spend as little as possible.  So when a fellow Yelper invited me along to his company meeting in Portland, which included a free room at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront, I realized that this might be my one and only chance to stay at a hotel that doesn't have a "6" or an "8" in the name.  How could I say no?

The Marriott is pretty easy to find, although the entrance is a bit confusing and I don't think they have free parking.  There's free valet parking for hotel guests, however, and one cool feature is that you can call down from your hotel room, and your car will be ready and waiting by the time you walk down to the lobby.  The concierge is very friendly and helpful, and they have a nifty little table display with pocket-sized cards to local attractions and restaurants (most of which contain pretty good coupons), so it's worth a look.  They can also hook you up with a good walking map of downtown Portland, and the streetcar is within walking distance of the hotel, maybe six short blocks away.

Our room was a little on the small side, but tastefully decorated, with windows that actually opened.  We were placed next to the elevators, which offered the added bonus of late-night "dings" at random times.  The beds were our favorite part --- big and cushy, with featherbeds, down comforters, and fluffy pillows aplenty, plus a cute chenille throw laid at the end of the bed for kicks.  Alas, the bedside lamp didn't work, and the cable was extremely basic (no TLC, no Comedy Central, no MTV or VH1 that I saw).  There is a wi-fi hotspot, although the plug-ins are kind of odd --- the outlets and phone jack are set into the base of a desk lamp, presumably for decorative concealment.

The bathroom wasn't huge, but it was nice, and stocked with Bath & Body Works orange ginger toiletries that I immediately grabbed.  The shower worked fine, although the pressure was a bit weak and the hot water threatened to quit on me halfway through.  The Marriott thoughtfully offers guests the opportunity to purchase most of what's in the hotel room, should they be smitten with anything they see (including those fancy toiletries).  $48 shower curtain rings, anyone?

The lobby area is pleasant and nicely decorated, and includes a decent gift shop and coffee bar.  There are a couple of restaurants in the hotel, which we didn't try, and a fitness center, which we definitely didn't try.  However, I can attest to the classiness of their banquet rooms, though the food was unremarkable and the service was, ahem, quirky.

I don't know how much it costs to stay here, but the additional amenities and fancy touches don't seem worth the extra money to me.  I'd just as soon stay in a cheapo motel and save the cash for more sightseeing and shopping.  But if you're a business traveler or looking for a hotel where you can't park your car directly in front of your room door, the Marriott Downtown Waterfront is a friendly, upscale option.

The BF and I checked out Portland this past weekend and stayed in the Marriott Downtown.  Upon our arrival we were informed that parking was $24/day.  After the BF recovered from a near coronary we parked the car and made a promise to ourselves that we would find cheaper parking when we ventured out that evening or the next day.

Parking at hotels is always expensive, right?

    No biggie.

I had asked for a room with a view of the water.  What I got was a corner room with a window no bigger than the one in my bathroom that I had to climb over furniture to get to.

But we weren't going to really spend that much time in the room enjoying the view anyway, if you know what I mean.

    So.... no biggie.

The room itself was lovely but a bit warm when we got there, as hotel rooms can be when not in use, so we turned on the fan and AC.  The din of the noise was so loud we could barely hear each other speak.  And that was on the low setting.  Due to our small windowed-stuffy room, we needed to keep the AC on all night.  The noise from the fan turning on and off was alarming so we decided to leave it on all night.

Until it turned it self off.  So one of us had to get up to turn it back on. Twice.

    No biggie.

Other "no biggie" issues include the bed sleeping like a trampoline that caused one person to practically bounce off when the other moved, the paper thin walls and single-paned window that allowed the sound of the skateboarder below to float up into our room from 7 floors down and the tub/toilet room that had no fan which caused a problem for a variety of reasons we don't really need to go into here.

    More substantial irritations and annoyances:

The housekeeping service was very good except when the BF forgot to remove the "do not disturb" sign and it subsequently took us 12.5 hours and 2 requests to get some fresh towels.  (Yes, that's TWELVE AND ONE HALF hours...)

In spite of our request for a late check out, a maid knocked on our door at 8:15 AM (ignoring the "do not disturb" sign) and then barged in without waiting for a response only to flip on the light see us SLEEPING, say "oh sorry" and rush out the door.  A second maid was found in our room (again, ignoring the aforementioned sign) after we came back from lunch to pack up.  She offered no apology, preferring to make us feel guilty for our presence by saying the the snottiest tone she could muster "when are you leaving?!"

There were a lot of "no biggies" that turned into general irriation.
Needless to say, this is not what I expect from a Marriott.  I've had a better experience at a Courtyard or Motel 6!

So, you must be asking, "Why are you giving this place 3 stars?"

Because I liked the Orange Ginger bath products.

    No other reason.

    (Yes... I'm a fickle bitch.  I know.)

I attended a conference here, but did not stay at the hotel itself. I have to say, the layout of the conference center is extremely poor. Granted, I think they did the best with the space afforded to them (which is why I bumped the review up a star). They have several "salons" for various meetings, which were decent-sized, but had very distracting, Vegas-esque carpet. The escalator leading down to the lower level is intended for skinny people...I don't know how anyone larger than a size 8 could fit on that thing - good night. Right when you get off of the escalator, there's only about 3 feet between the escalator and the wall, so you hope that it's not packed when you make the transition to the floor. There is another lower level that was extremely cramped and not very enjoyable, though my attitude of even being at the conference may contribute to this idea.

Overall, it's not the most ideal setting for a conference with a crap load of people, but it works.

I can't comment on the cost, but for a Marriott, I was satisfied. I checked in for a three-night stay a few weeks ago. I had a king sized bed, and because this is a "residence in", there is a kitchen and couch/TV area. If I was traveling to Portland with a family or for a prolonged stay and on a budget, I would definitely appreciate the kitchen option.

The hotel is located a distance from the downtown area, but if you are going for OHSU or Portland State U, this Marriott is a decent choice. It is somewhat secluded, so you will likely take the streetcar (which stops conveniently right out front) to get to food, entertainment, etc.

The hotel has a small, albeit nice gym room (two treadmills, an eliptical, some weights), a small pool and jacuzzi. They serve a really nice continental breakfast in the morning, with eggs, pancakes, breads, cooked meats, fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc. I was satisfied with the overall quality of this Marriott.

As for customer service, they were generally friendly and helpful.

    I woulda swore I reviewed this 2 weeks ago...(some else concurred....wtf Yelp...)

Anyway, this is a hotel I have stayed numerous times the last 6-8 years. Had been awhile since I had been here, and it's a good location so grabbed it again. Oddly its same price as the new Residence Inn on the Waterfront just accross the way.....kinda wish I had booked there after seeing it.

Its priced a bit less than the Hilton and a few of the other big name places....I'd have preferred some of the cooler boutique hotels, but when you travel a lot, gotta get the points for your free weekends with the lady, and since this was 3 nights, stayed here.  It SHOULD be priced less...its in need of an update, at least the floor I stayed on.

Great service, Good location. Great breakfast buffet. Gym was very mediocre. Its a safe, but not stunning, bet.

Requested a double room for me, hubby and son.  I think they found the smallest room to give us, right next to the elevator, throw in a Friday night drunken party next to us, and we're all set for a 5 star experience....NOT.  By 3am, I had had enough, called down and was told security would take care of it.  We threw on the fan at full blast to try to drown out the noise, but by 4:30, I had to call again.  Not a restful sleep.  The street noise is also very loud, even on the 11 th floor.

So for our bother, we got slipped a free starbucks drink card under the door?  Really?  Too little too late, I'm afraid.  The front desk apologized profusely, but we opted to leave and not stay the second night.  Had they been on it the first time, I don't think it would have resorted to this.

Ate at the sports bar & the breakfast buffet - both very average with 80's decor and pricey.  It's a 10 minute walk to the train; 15 to the mall.

I would not stay here again.  Period.

Small rooms, didn't fit 2 adults and 3 children(as promised). Parking is $30 per day, breakfast is $13-17 each, and internet is $12 per day. Fail of a stay. I will never return.
We ordered this room online and it did not meet our expectations, planned on staying 3 more nights, canceled and went with La Quinta. Cheaper, larger rooms, free parking, free breakfast and free internet.

I have stayed at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront on several occasions when in town on government business. The hotel is located on the outskirts of the downtown area, but like another reviewer said, you can easily walk anywhere downtown.

The customer service has been exemplary upon each visit. From check-in to check out, everyone was so pleasant -- it was refreshing! The rooms boasting a river view do not disappoint, however on my last stay my view was a corner window, so while you could see the river, I wouldn't classify it as a river view room. The true river view rooms have a very small balcony with a sliding glass door and provide a stunning view of the river and east side.

Rooms are all clean, modern and well furnished. I found the beds very comfortable, although there is something awkward about the feather pillows. The flat panel television also had the capability to hook up my laptop to it so I could use it as a monitor, which was a neat feature.

I have three issues with this hotel:

PARKING: The parking is valet only and they charge a whopping $28.00 a day. There is a self park lot around the block that is not affiliated with the hotel, but it's actually pretty convenient once you know where it is and how to get there.

BREAKFAST/MANAGERS RECEPTION: There are many other hotels in the downtown area that include both a free hot breakfast and a nightly managers reception with free wine/cocktails. This Marriott does not offer either, which is disappointing.

INTERNET ACCESS FEE: There is no complimentary Internet access at the hotel.

Overall, if you're on business and expenses are covered, this is a decent place, though there are better hotels which are more centrally and conveniently located than this.

I stayed here 4 nights - I found it pretty underwhelming. They were very friendly, and everything was pretty nice about the place, but a few things bugged me:
    - The rooms (at least the double I was in) are TINY. If you're trying to shoehorn three people into a double, good luck, fire code prohibits hem bringing you a cot.
    - After *multiple* requests for extra linens, nadda.
    - The internet is terrible here! To use the "free" in room wired internet you have to go through this web interface that makes it look like you have to pay, just a little confusing. The bad part is the wireless - every time I opened my laptop it was at best a 50% chance it would work.
    - Last but not least. there is no fan in the bathroom. Not so great with so much hearty food and strong beers close by. Just, you know, don't plan on having your naturally generated aromas carried away very quickly.

Other than that, it was really pretty nice. I liked that they had bath and body works products in the bathroom! The location was great too - it was really nice being so close to the waterfront, but also most of the things I wanted to go to downtown. I would probably go here again, but only if I could score a room with a river view!

This place was nice. But for how much I was paying....not great.

The hotel is walking distance to the downtown bars. Not a short walk, but still walking distance. That was a plus. Cute workers as well.

The valet girl that helped us was rude, indifferent, and a little too young to be working there.

For how much you are paying, there isn't even free WiFi. Now that pissed me off.

We also had a random $17.00 charge that they would not explain to us what it was. Shady?

I would not stay here again.

Like I said, it was nice. But choose something else.

Stayed here one night.  The employee who helped me at the front desk for check-in and who I had to interact with later that night was snooty and left a bad taste in my mouth.  The room itself was nice, with a very comfy bed, flat screen TV, Bath and Body Works Orange Ginger products, an a view of the river.  Overall, not a bad room.  Oh, and Champions bar (which apparently some say is the best sports bar in the city) is on the 2nd or third floor.

The bad, other than the employee?  The fact that I had to pay $9.95 for internet access (24h).  Also, the hotel is 3-4 blocks from the free streetcar which normally isn't bad but in the rain isn't good.

If it weren't for the employee, 4 stars.

I stayed here for a conference in October.  I am not sure how many people were at this conference, but I would bet it was a couple thousand.  While my room was comfortable and nice (and came equipped with Bath and Body Works products), this hotel was clearly not ready for this conference.  Only two of the four elevators were working, so it was very difficult to go any where fast, unless you took the stairs, and since I was on the 11th floor, that wasn't always an option.  At one point the escalator was out of commission, too.  It just seemed like they were not prepared for a large amount of people all needing to go to the same place at roughly the same time.  It was frustrating.
But again, the room was nice, the staff were helpful, and once I discovered the super-secret service elevator, things weren't so bad.

Located walking distance from the Waterfront, the marina and several eateries, this hotel is in excellent condition after a recent renovation.

There's an indoor pool, fitness center, and two sports bar within the hotel. It is a great place for holding big conferences. The hotel has oustanding customer service.

Be aware that their "free wireless internet" is ONLY in two small areas in the lobby where the connection cuts in and out. To access wireless internet from your room, it must be purchased.

Stayed here for a psychology conference last weekend.

The room was nice, and we had a really nice view of the river (I'm geographically inept, so couldn't really tell you what river this is, but I think there's only one river by the hotel), the room was pretty small, but it's not like I was planning on running or anything in there, so it was ok. The beds were comfy, but I couldn't really figure the pillows out. You get two gigantic pillows, and two normal sized ones. Now the thing is they were all over stuffed and overly fluffy, which wasn't comfortable, but just plain weird. I ended up angrily throwing one of the large pillows off the bed in the middle of the night, as it disrupted my sleep.

The Starbucks in the lobby closed at one, service was slow, and when I got there around 10, all the pastries were gone.

Staff seemed friendly, and don't hang out and drink in the hall, unless you want security called on you.

It's a Marriot so you know it is a good standard of Hotel.

For this hotel, good location in the financial area of downtown Portland.

Over eager and frankly annoying valet only parking, the valets are rude and pushy.
At $30 for parking forget it ! Instead just park one block away at the Smart Park location which has cheap and safe parking, and right across from the wonderful VQ restaurant.
Breakfast etc is expensive and overpriced, also not very good. Instead walk across to the VQ for food.

Rooms are small but nice and clean and also well equipped. Pillows are weird and not supportive, overly soft. Nice large TV. Bathroom is very very small and no vent.
Also charging $12 per day for internet is way too much...

Biggest downside of the hotel is the lack of noise insulation, the age of the building really shows itself. Only single pane windows and even on the 10th floor one can clearly hear the very noisy garbage trucks and buses at 5am in the morning which woke us up each morning, the noise is so loud one might as well have their bed on the sidewalk. Maybe things are different on the 14th and 15th floor, but to me this really needs addressing by the Marriot group.

We would not stay at this location again until a upgrade is done.

Pro: attentive customer service, fun amenities, beautiful view, decent location (no nearby food that isn't terrible), easily
located, very clean. The beds and pillows get a 5 star rating- I wanted to take them home with me.

Con: parking rates are ludicrous, rooms are cramped, no ventilation in the bathrooms so steam remains far too long after a shower. Poor lighting.

As far as hotels go, the Marriott on the waterfront is great! The location is wonderful and the staff are very accommodating. The price is a tad high in my opinion ($149/night) for what it is. After the valet, concierge and gorgeous marble lobby, I expected a little more from the room. It was not much more than a Best Western or Super8 room.  The room service breakfast was along the lines of what you'd expect from Denny's or Shari's.

Was a able to snag a room on a Thursday night via Priceline for only $90, so I found this place to be a pretty sweet deal. Standard room with a comfy bed and a decent view of the river. Parking is ridiculously expensive, so I recommend going nearby to park. Great location though, was able to walk everywhere!

I travel to Portland often for business and occasionally to visit friends in the area or venture further north to the Seattle/Bainbridge area when time permits.

The nice thing about Portland is the relative convenience in getting around from wherever you start from. The Downtown Portland Marriott truly satisfies (there is also another Marriott property closer to the city-center shopping area which I have also stayed at.)

I have been well treated and respected at this property. Whenever possible, I try to get a river-view room.....I have not been disappointed. As a Marriott property however, there is no mini-bar convenience but there is the usual coffee maker, etc., bathroom amenities and a small but efficient gym (I wish this hotel had a sauna or steam room as I like to run most afternoons as such a convenience would be appreciated.) There is a great full service gym (with pool, sauna, etc) nearby called River Place Athletic Club. It is a short walk and there is a nominal day use fee.....again most things in Portland are truly within walking distance.

I have not dined at the property but I have enjoyed the Champions Sports Bar for drinks, multi-monitor flatscreens for any sports of the day and to meet fellow business travelers.
