The important question is - Can this Portillo's location be a suitable venue for a group of about half a dozen, or so, loud knitters. . . .

I've been to this location many time and the food is good - come on, it's Portillo's you don't think it wouldn't be good!? The service was also as good as it always had been.  There was really no wait to order or to get my food despite the busy conditions.  My main concern this time around was our group size.  Would it be a good place for us to meet, socialize and knit?  The answer: Yes!  We found a group of tables that we could push together and have enough space to sit, eat and knit without hurting someone or violating a fire code (which is very important!).

I highly recommend this Portillo's location as a place to meet up your large group.

people either hate this place or love it.  I LOVE IT.

besides dim sum, this is the only other place i always schedule a trip to when i visit the area.  give me my italian beef sandwich, chicago style hot dog & onion rings!

i once had a box of italian beef sandwiches shipped to me for my birthday --best frozen food i've ever had.  ever.  in my life.

it's always crowded here, but there's usually a table available within 10 minutes.  if you don't like the crowds, you can also get your food to go or just order from the take out window.

Well, it's American food. 100% American. If you love cholesterol and fat content... I recommend it absolutely!

I'm not so sure about why people love Portillo's so much ... the place scares the crap out of me. I did drink their beer.

I'm from Chicago, and now I live in California and I'm telling you - there isn't ANYTHING like Portillo's here! Tell people about "Italian beef sandwiches" and they look at you like you have 2 heads! Everyone here is clueless about Vienna Beef. Thank God they deliver anywhere in the U.S.now.  A little piece of home! Don't even get me started about Chicago-style hot dogs - people out here have no idea what they're missing!

Absolutely the best Italian Beef, period.  The chili cheese dogs and cheese burgers are also among the best anywhere.

Oh my, if only we had something like this back in SoCal. We were in town for a conference and was required by friends to try out Portillos. They suggested the Combo which was one sandwich with Italian beef and a sausage all rolled into one with the optional hot peppers. Delicious, I could eat this all day and every day of the week.

The restaurant seemed to be pretty well organized to handle large crowds. The parking lot and street entrance were easily overwhelmed, but evidently this is a common problem for them and they had a traffic cop directing traffic!

Two words - Big Beef.  Awesome.

Seriously though, Portillo's kicks ass for dinner or lunch with their hot dogs, burgers, and italian beef.  If you're not in the mood for any of those, Barnelli's has always met my expectations.  However, beware getting the bottom of the bowl when ordering a chopped salad, that gets way too much dressing.

For personal and nostalgic reasons, I will always love Portillo's. I know this doesn't help others very much. When I was younger my favorite was the cheesy beef, and I still love the tamales.

I love that I can call in an order and in ten minutes it is ready and waiting for me in the drive thru. Put the number in your cell phone!

And the employees are always so nice! At Barnelli's, too!

Portillos only serves high quality fast food.  I enjoy my food every time I go.  It's not full of $0.99 specials, which is fine with me.  If you want gimmicks and don't want to spend more than $6 keep going to McDonalds.  Portillos is worth the $8/person because of the consistency and high quality ingredients.

I wish they would offer nutritional information.  Obviously, the food here isn't good for you, but I'd like to know what I'm eating.

There is nothing so perfect as the Portillo's Cheeseburger.  It's got that great charbroiled taste, cold tomatoes and lettuce, crunchy pickles and red onion, with just the perfect amount of mayo and ketchup mixed together to make that perfect pinky sauce that runs down your arm.  Also, real actual fresh brewed iced tea.  Ask for the Bedwetter Size.

Portillos; it is what it is.  The classic "Chicago Fast Food" - aka giant polish sausages, greasy roast beef sandwiches, and hot dogs loaded with everything.

These things are all good in moderation, but having it more than once every couple months makes me feel like I'm on my way to joining the rest of America in the Obesity epidemic.

But, if I had just run a marathon or something, or decided I just didn't give a crap about eating healthy, one of my meals would certainly involve a Portillo's chocolate malt.  It's like crack; semi-liquid, frozen, malty crack.

BTW, the Portillo's Police that "work" Golf Rd every weekday in front of this place embody all the problems with suburban police departments.

Meh.  I just don't understand why everyone thinks this place is so awesome.  It drives me nuts that when it's busy (which is like, um, always) they have people taking your order half a mile away from the damn menu.  I mean, I'm sure the other 82 people in line know everything on your menu but I do not.  So, could you please just bring me a menu when you come to my car?  I promise to decide within the 2.3 seconds you'll allow me before you give me cranky face.

I do love their shakes and fries though, which is usually all I end up getting.

I don't know why or how they do it but ANY Portilos you go to, you can find an amaZing cake - their Chocolate Cake is oh so good.  It's my favorite cake of anywhere, odd @ a fast food place....they must not make it there.  I highly recommend trying a slice!!!

I kind of love you but you keep abusing me and screwing up my orders!

There was the hot dog that I wanted relish, mustard and ketchup on. I got  everything BUT so my hot dog stunk of onions by the time I got it back to work.

There was the time I ordered a shake, got a malt, you told me it wasn't mine but it WAS and I told you I ordered a SHAKE and... arhghhghgh. (The malts here are SUPER malty. I don't mind that, some people do. Just a note. The shakes are delicious either way, malt powder or no.)

Either way I don't mind coming back because the food is pretty good but I generally pick other places - especially RE: this location on Golf because it's SO HARD to get to during lunch! They really do have two traffic cops directing traffic. It's really usually not worth my time when I can just go get a hotdog somewhere else that is of comparable quality without the hassle, but I don't mind going if everyone else wants to or it's not during a rush. The food is pretty decent, the onion rings are delicious and (at this location.. maybe? Or is that the Arlington Heights one? I forget.) you have the pasta option, too.

I'd give you four stars if you would STOP SCREWING UP MY ORDERS ARRRGH.

During lunch time, two cop cars are actually stationed right in front of this Portillos to keep traffic moving in and out of the restaurant. And the drive-thru has a long line as well. You want to know why this place is such a hot spot? Welll, stop in and have anything on their menu -- one taste of their delicious food and you'll be joining the crowd too!

I was in here a two weeks back on a Saturday. The tables were filthy, felt sticky, I went to throw my refuse away and got some cheese and ketchup nastiness on my hands and jeans! Maybe someone missed the garbage and spilled coke and cheese all over. It looked as if it'd been there sometime! Why couldn't any one of the many runners they have, wiped down that area and the tables. I mentioned it to management and they were good about it.
But really, on a not so busy Saturday afternoon wouldn't they have runners cleaning up? Or maybe the lunch crowd left, shouldn't someone go cleanup the place?
Food was all good as usual. Another peeve, I had a togo order, Cheese fries, the person which packed it, did so in such a hurry, that the cheese spilled all over, infecting the napkins, and covers of the other food. how about you slow down and pack my sh*t nicely.
Not to be a jerk, but why, when I asked for cream for my coffee, the lady corrected me and said. LECHE!
No! Milk, I say!

i have to say portillos is a really clean restaurant and the beer is 12 ounces and the food doesn't come from Iowa i worked for portillo's its not a bad company. the manager or person who pulled the food out of the trash is an asshole, people like that exist no matter where you go.

once again i know for a fact that the place is super clean since i had to clean the place, its the only restaurant i worked for that steam cleaned the entire kitchen every day.
