I don't live in Chicago anymore.. actually, I haven't lived in Chicago now for about 6 years... but when I come home, Pop's is my #1 go to place. Sorry, that's not true. Usually I'm flying into Midway and whites is the first stop because its closest and its too late for me to get Pops.
So, Pop's is Day #2 and its the best day! I've been getting the same thing there my whole life. A hotdog plain with the fries well done. I love everything about it. I used to know the price, when I was in high school it was $1.56, I bet its closer to $2 now.. but even still! Two bucks for a hot dog and fries! In San Diego I pay $10 for "Chicago style" hot dog places! They have nothing on Pops. I love that place and if it were to ever close down I would seriously have to rethink wanting to raise a family in Palos :)
Don't miss their italian beef either, its to die for!
Its all right. We get food from there every other week because its near by. They're beef is pretty good. You can just buy the beef and make sandwiches at home. I prefer their corned beef. Its very good. Hot dogs and hamburgers are average. Mini tacos are all right. Sometimes the staff is nice sometimes it seems like yea whatever your here and don't seem too happy your there. The good thing is they have variety.
Pop's Italian Beef & Sausage is a great place to grab some food. They are fast and you can order ahead by phone. The foor is usually very good, all hot dogs come with fries and they have a great chicken on a pita, chicken ceaser salad, and the pizza puffs are also pretty good.
I crave a cheeseburger with everything, fries and vanilla milkshake from Pop's at least once a week. I absolutely love every single bite, I can inhale a cheeseburger in under 5 minutes, no problem, I love it that much. Prices are great too!
Living far away from home in Washington DC, a girl gets a craving for some real Chicago-style Italian beef every now and then. While visiting my best friend recently, she decided that Pop's would be the absolute best place for me to get my fix. It is a walk-in/take-out kind of place and was filled with lunchtime customers. I ordered the Italian beef, although the combo (beef/sausage) looked mighty tasty. The beef was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and served on fresh baked roll just dripping with juices! The french fries were also very tasty and not your normal soggy fast food kind.
Bottom line: If you are ever in the area, give this Chicago-style Italian beef joint a try. I know I'll be back!
So this is the the smallest Pop's around. It has 6 parking spots and no drive-thru. The special of the day was a double cheeseburger, 1/2 fry and a medium soda for five bucks. I saw a sign for gyros and had to go for it. I should have stuck with the special. I didn't see the gyros machine, but they went around back to get it. I was there for about twenty minutes with ordering and eating at the counter. (No stools or tables) And nobody ordered the gyros. Which is probably why it tasted like grease. If ithe meat just spins around all day without being cut, it's going to absorb the grease from the fryer and the grill. The fries were great. But this is the last time that I order a gyros without seeing them cut if off the spit.
Another great place to get a "Chicago style hot dog" there is no place to sit but that isn't a problem with me. The place is also very clean and the service is fast. one of the best dogs I tried here was the chili cheese dog the chili tasted homemade (a real plus) and a top quality hot dog.
best italian beef ever...also their cheeseburgers are amazing...i know some people who like the chicken but some have been unimpressed with it...but theres really no reason to go anywhere else in the world for a beef sandwich...good fries too you can order them well done if thats how you like it...gyros is pretty good and my vegetarian sister loves their veggie subs...pretty much one of the greatest places ever
