I was actually surprised by the number of poor reviews this place has received because I was pretty impressed by it.
Yes, the atomosphere is a bit cheesy. And as a whole, the place was pretty touristy, but I pretty much expected that walking in the door. I felt like the entire town of Lake Geneva is a giant tourist trap.
We were seated immediately (around 9:00pm on a Saturday), and our waitress was quick and friendly. Overall service was fantastic.
We started with the steak nachos which were good. I liked that they actually asked which ingredients we wanted on them. My boyfriend split the shrimp and lobster bisque which was awesome. It was so rich and creamy that I couldn't have eaten more than half a cup. My pulled pork sandwich was good, and the onion rings were great. Everyone else seemed very happy with their food.
My biggest complaint was that things seemed overpriced - though maybe not given the area - and that they didn't offer refills on sodas. I drink water so it doesn't matter much to me, but I find it very obnoxious when places charge full price for every soft drink. -

No, this isn't Popeye's the fast food chain ... though I probably would have enjoyed that more than Popeye's on the Lake. This place looks so promising but comes up short when it comes to food and service.
I was recently in Lake Geneva in August for a vacation and decided to eat at Popeye's on the Lake after walking around town to see what restaurants were available. The decor in Popeye's is what I like to call "nautical kitschy cool." There were a lot of anchors, ropes and boat steering wheels hanging on the walls; there were a lot of brass fixtures. The decor, however, was the best part of the experience.
We went there on a Sunday evening for dinner, and the place was pretty crowded. There was a bit of a line when we first walked in, but it moved pretty quickly. My husband and I were seated at a table that was in sort of an landing that kind of just hovered in the center of the restaurant. Whatever, I thought. It's better than having to stand waiting for a table. Another couple was seated in the same landing section as us, and we were the only two tables.
So, we look through the menu and wait for a waitress to come by and take our drink orders. So we're sitting there waiting. And waiting. And waiting. A good 15 minutes go by, and no one has come by our two tables. The other table next to us flags down a Popeye's employee and says no one has come by their table or ours. The guy is very apologetic and says he's going to find out who our waitress is.
Our waitress finally comes to our tables to take our drink and appetizer orders. She's also very apologetic and says that the first two drinks are on the house since we had to wait so long. I thought it was a nice gesture. I mean, stuff happens, and sometimes communication among staff just isn't there. OK, mistakes happen. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the service.
The one shining part of the food we ordered was the appetizer. We had the Nachos Supreme, which wasn't anything too special or unique, but how can you go wrong with tortilla chips smothered with cheese and salsa and meat and sour cream and guacamole? It was delish.
For an entree, however, I thought I would try and be healthy so I ordered the Barbeque Chicken Ranch Salad. I should have just ordered a hamburger considering the way they drenched the salad in cheese, bacon, dressing and shredded chicken. It was served in a taco shell. I think there was lettuce in there somewhere, but I'm not sure. It was just not appetizing, and I barely ate any of it.
Overall, I just didn't have a positive experience, and I don't plan on going back the next time we're in Lake Geneva. -
Review from Wesley S.
Popeye's is a mostly American restaurant with a few touches that reflect its Greek ownership. Dinner at Popeye's is not bad, but extremely expensive for value received. In my opinion, Popeye's is overpriced.
The quality of food items and recipes at Popeye's varies, but many of the menu selections are excellent, and some are unique. In September Popeye's has a German Oktoberfest menu that includes many traditional German dishes. They are mostly very good. Of the regular menu items, one outstanding choice is the ribs. The ribs are dry-rubbed to perfection. Very few restaurants attend to this preparation detail, and Popeye's ribs are outstanding. Also worth trying are the rotisserie items, when the charcoal pit across the street is open. That would be on weekends, I think, but call ahead to double-check on this.
Other menu selections vary in quality, but all are quite expensive, overpriced, in fact, for what you get. Extras such as dessert and coffee/tea/soda boost the bill significantly. While Popeye's is still in the "moderate" price category, I would budget $25-$30 apiece for a dinner there, and not that special a dinner to boot.
The restaurant has lots of floor space that occupies several rooms and at least two levels. Ambiance is comparable to a decent family restaurant, but Popeye's is very noisy. The bustle at other tables is noticeable, and it detracts from the dining experience. Some tables have views out the window, but there are many interior tables that do not. Having a table with a view definitely improves the overall dining experience. Wait until such a table is available, if you go to Popeye's.
Service at Popeye's is mediocre.
Parking is hard to find.
Overall, Popeye's has some excellent menu selections. Popeye's is overpriced. Its ambiance and service are mediocre. -

Went to Popeye's and had the pulled pork dinner. Pretty disapointing. The pork was a bit fatty and I was very unimpressed. It's a shame since.
I also didn't like the service, I think they served rolls or bread, but not to my table. I won't go back. -

Great restaurant overlooking Geneva Lake with a great downtown location and huge inside. It is a very busy, overstimulating and load at times which what makes it fun to go with a group of people. They have great steaks and the split roasted chicken is one of the best casual meals in the Lake Geneva area. Really large bar inside if you just want to take a break for a margarita or beer in the summer. Parking in summer is crazy as it is in all of Lake Geneva and lines to get in on summer weekends can be intimating. I love it and go every summer several times.

Offers great view of the lake but overpriced for a casual eatery. We paid $30 for a chicken wrap, Reuben, two orders of fries and water, including the tip. The sandwhich was meaty and tasty but the partially dark-meat wrap was soggy from too much dressing and the fries were lukewarm. A slice of pie, which we declined, costs $7. Unless a lakefront view is a must, skip this place and spend your money in one of the many other places in this quaint little town.

Disappointing! The hubby's Fish Fry was rubbery and undercooked, veggies were from frozen, kid burger heated from frozen. Rotisserie chicken was good and fresh. No free refills. Stick with the chicken. There are many much better restaurants in Lake Geneva - like Baker House

This place was just okay, but I felt kind of bad giving it only 2 stars, hence 3.
We came on Memorial Day weekend and were surprisingly sat right away. Drinks came a little too slowly, especially for being tap beers, but I'm thinking the bar was slammed on the holiday.
I had the BBQ Chicken salad - the pulled chicken tasted very good, and although it was just iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and chicken, it hit the spot.
I think this place was overpriced - but considering the location that also did not surprise me. I don't think I'd go back here if I come to LG again, too many other places to try. -

Lobster and shrimp bisque is sweet and delicious. Broccoli cheddar soup is creamy and quite tasty. Ribs, rotisserie chicken and teriyaki beef is tender and delicious. Portion sizes are large and you'll probably get more than you can eat! Staff is friendly and attentive. Food comes out fast. Pricy but worth it! Highly recommended.

We walked in for a late lunch with our two little girls. We were quickly seated and our waitress was great. Having kids tired from swimmingbut hungry we wanted to be fast. My husband got a cheeseburger, I got the veggie burger and our daughter got chicken fingers. The atmosphere was perfect for families. Our drinks and food came out quickly and correctly. My veggie burger was awesome! My 10 month old is the pickiest eater and only eats bread but she even ate part of my burger! My husband and other daughter loved there's too.
This was a perfect way to end our day trip up to lake Geneva. -
Review from Jenna J.
By all accounts this place should have been amazing! The location is excellent overlooking Lake Geneva, it's highly advertised as the most sought restaurant in LG and the place is constantly busy. So why the 1 star? Well we figured we picked the cream of the crop by going to this place after first making sure it wasn't a relative of the famous chicken fast food chain. It's not I assure you the fast food would have been so much better! We got seated immediately in the middle of the restaurant somewhere, no view but that's ok I get that those are the prime seat locations. We glanced at the menu, and really you can't get away with anything other than meat. So Chicken it was for us. The wait wasn't that long, and presented in front of us were heaping plates of pretty good looking food. I decided to get the mushroom swiss chicken burger. I grabbed the sandwich (oh wait its slimy on the bottom? Oh well probably grease) and took a bite...which I practically had to unhinge my jaw for and the taste that resulted was...generic slop? Really I don't know what the taste was It was bland as heck and I couldn't bite into the thing without having slime all over my face. I used 3 napkins to eat 1/2 of this thing it was so nasty and honestly I am not a messy eater. The reason for the messy slime? Yeah those mushrooms are encased in some gelatinous gel that gets everywhere. It was seriously the most disgusting thing I have ever had. I love mushrooms but this is something that belonged in a Ghostbusters movie. Even thinking about it my stomach turns! As for the other half's food choice the Ceasar chicken wrap was just as bland and he couldn't finish that either. Luckily that did seem slime free.
The beer in this place seemed to be flowing so maybe that's the key, you need to be absolutely sloshed to enjoy any of this food. The only redeeming quality of this place is, the french fries were pretty good and the waitress was super nice (probably because she pitied our digestive systems). But for a $30 bill of absolute slop i'd rather go up the road to Potbelly and sit on a bench with it to get the view of the Lake. -
Review from Ariana S.
You gotta give this place credit for trying....but that's about all.
Atmosphere was reminiscent of a Bubba Gump Shrimp co but waaaay cornier. The menu was overwhelming and lacked any sort of creativity. Obviously trying to sell the rotisserie items so we figured, if that was the best stuff, that is what we would order.
Not impressed. I ordered the pulled BBQ chicken over a salad. Do you call a few slices of iceburg lettuce a salad?! Side note: Iceburg lettuce is disgusting. Anyone who even serves iceburg lettuce automatically is deducted a star.
The other stars are taken away from service, food quality & price (way overpriced).
The only thing that was slightly ok was the Shrimp & Lobster Bisque. But, then again, I've had better... -

I hate writing bad reviews, I really do. I went to other places in the area that had great Yelp reviews previously and it was great. So I finally decided to give Popeyes a try. It smells good outside. The restaurant is huge and busy constantly. I was seated at a small table that probably should NOT have been there. Just to the left was a painted power outlet sticking out at head-level, and I couldn't move my chair because of the wooden log pillar. I'm guessing that where the table was, was against code. But I don't care about that, I'll eat in death valley if the food is great...
With that said, I ordered the double the meat pulled pork sandwich. The first thing you notice is the prices are extremely high. They are making a ton of money off of the tourists. We had service issues as well, but I don't really want to go there. The pulled pork was not just pulled pork. It was mixed into a mixture of BBQ sauce, maybe mustard, maybe breadcrumbs - since they sell the meat by WEIGHT, so they are making it heavier on purpose. 5 oz. of pulled pork there's probably only 2-3 oz. of meat in there. I've blogged about pulled pork sandwiches on a food road trip years ago to Memphis. I will say that this is the least desirable pulled pork sandwich I have yet had. The pulled pork imitates the look of refried beans, and what would best describe it as "slop on a bun". The large bone shard that fell out towards the end of the sandwich was luck - if I would have bit into that I would have broken a tooth, cut myself, or worse case choked to death.
Appetizer was garlic hummus-type dip with veggies. Cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes were fine (how do you mess up raw vegetables.. you don't) - but the dip was so garlicy that over 24 hours later after multiple meals, ice cream, teeth brushing and listerine - I can still taste the garlic in my mouth. That is NOT good. And I love garlic. I don't know how you make something THAT garlicy, I have eaten whole roasted cloves with no issues like this...
Go elsewhere, read the reviews for other places in the area, you'll pay the same if not less and get MUCH more quality and better service!
Popeyes is below average food with extremely high prices. I felt robbed. No free refills either. -
Review from Alisa M.
My boyfriend and I decided to eat here on Thursday since we were spending the day in Lake Geneva. We were deciding between this place and Scuttlebutt's, but decided to try this place out since they had a Thursday prime rib special. The nice thing about this place is that it sits right in front of the lake, so the view is beautiful.
The drinks are not free refills, but the glasses are HUGE, so I didn't mind it. It also says on the menu that the pop is per glass unlike some places where you order a pop and then find out later that refills ARE NOT free.
We ordered a small bowl of the clam chowder soup and split the 24 oz. prime rib special. We weren't too hungry at the time so we didn't want to order too much food. Please take a look at the pictures that I posted. The prime rib came out and looked very good.... BUT I think that about half of the prime rib was PURE FAT. I was truly disgusted by how much fat there was on the piece of meat. I mean, I know that prime ribs are supposed to be a bit fatty, but this much? We ended up cutting all the fat off the prime rib and barely had enough to share between the two of us. Out of the 24 oz, I would have to say that at least 10 oz. was pure fat.
The roasted chicken, on the other hand looked decent. Maybe in the future, if I try this place again, I'll try that and update my review. -

Amazing dining off the lake.
Even though we came here in February, I've been here during the spring/summer season. This place is great and has amazing views. We were here during a weekday so it wasn't as crowded as it usually be.
Our server Keith was on point. Very attentive to our needs. He came around in a timely matter and checked on us. Very friendly too. Even the manager came over and talked to us. She asked us how was everything and if we enjoyed them meal. Definitely appreciated that.
My husband ordered the full rack of baby back ribs and I ordered their famous broasted chicken. Everything was good. I really liked the cheddar broccoli soup and the salad. All in all it was a decent dining experience and would love to go back again, although I will wait for the weather to break so I can gaze upon the beautiful lake. -

So we stayed in Lake Geneva for 7 days on vacation and were trying to find good places to eat that had decent reviews. That proved impossible (finding consistently good reviews) so we just winged it.
Popeye's was our last dinner out on a Friday night and we were drawn in because of their lake view and all you can eat fish fry. Of course, there are quite a few mixed reviews. The sodas are sold by the glass, so you have to pay for your refills, which is a bummer, and they only carry Pepsi products, not Coke. I prefer Coke, but anyway, the fish fry was delish! The batter was light but still nice and crunchy. The fries were really good and my boyfriend liked the potato pancakes. Our server Rachel was really nice and knew the perfect time to stop by to see if we needed a new batch of the endless fish, which you can get broiled or fried. It was a heavy dinner but so yummy. Their tarter sauce is SO good. It has dill in it and tastes really unique.
Also, thanks to another reviewers tip, I joined their email list and instantly received a $5 off coupon which I used to dine on 10 minutes later. The decor is cheesy but it's fun and we had a perfect view of the lake. All in all a good dinner, decently priced with the $5 off coupon, but nothing fancy. Like all things in Lake Geneva, things may be a bit overpriced.
They also let you park in their lot for free if they have room. Unfortunately we didn't realize this until we fed a meter outside but they do like tips in the lot. Hope this helps you! -

I've gone here my last several visit to Lake Geneva. The food is pretty good. From reading some of the other reviews written here, I can say that yes, it is a bit cheesy and touristy in ambiance, but it is so in an authentic way. I doubt the decorations were ever intended to be chic, but rather family-style-touristy-cheesed out. Charming! The rotisserie chicken is really good and that seems to be their specialty so I would try that out. Prices are a bit touristy too but it is what I expected so I'm not going to complain about that.

Nothing great....the view was nice and fast seating....but food was okay. Lobster Bisque was pretty tasty but that was about it. Overcharged us about $10 on the chicken, luckily we caught that and they adjusted it.

Ehh.. this place is pretty overrated.. Their food is decent and the atmosphere is.. well interesting.. But it's nothing to brag about.. The prices are pretty steep for what they offer and for some reason people just keep coming back. I would avoid this place because there are so many better restaurants to try in the area

This was recommended to us by the hotel concierge. It looked like a really family friendly, let's all hang out type of casual restaurant. And it was. We had the Friday fish fry, pulled pork sandwich, artichoke dip and the baked brie app. I guess I am judging by Chicago standard... but the food was below diner quality. I know I sound like a snob, but I really don't see the attraction.
The weirdest thing that totally rubbed me the wrong way was when one of us ordered a second coke, and the waitress told us that you will be charged a for another coke because the bar counts each drink as one. Give me a break. -

"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." - Mom
If I follow Mom's advice, this review would be completely blank because I have nothing nice to say about Popeye's. Ok, I can say it was the only place still open at 8:30 on a Monday night. That's about it.
From the time we got seated until the time we scampered out, this place was a joke. I realize it's been in Lake Geneva for a long time, it has a prime location, and it's open after all of the other options have closed, but come on, how can it be this bad and still be in business?
It took 10 minutes for our surly waitress to come by reluctantly and take our drink order, which was 2 diet cokes. Maybe she knew she wasn't going to get a big tip from us with that order, but I expect good service anyway.
I ordered the chicken ranch wrap with the ranch on the side. It came slathered with ranch on the wrap. By the time it arrived I was too starving to return it, figuring this waitress was the type who would spit on your food. My better half had the French dip, which can be described at best as dried up beef on a not-so-fresh bun, with a comedically draped slice of some kind of cheese that wanted so badly to be melted, but the 15 seconds in the microwave just couldn't cut it. The fries were ok, but we had to get three bottles of ketchup before one had any to squeeze out.
And it seems to be a Lake Geneva tradition to make customers pay for pop refills. Really.
The only thing the waitress seemed excited about was selling us dessert but by that time we just wanted out.
I have to say that if this is the only place open, you are pretty much out of luck. Drive west on Hwy. 50 and you'll come to the McDonalds-Burger King-KFC corner and you will be happier with that Big Mac, Whopper Jr., or extra crispy bucket.
I'm only giving this one star because yelp made me. -

This place is a tourist trap. The famous roasted chicken was bland, totally without taste.
My wife, always the more adventurous diner, ordered fajitas. I tried to inform her that we were not at Mexican restaurant, but a barbecue joint. She definitely regretted her decision after trying to eat the sorry excuse for steak.
If I ever go back to Lake Geneva, I will definitely pack a picnic basket. -

This place is very popular to tourists...The food is good( we had fish fry and burgers)t wasnt over priced for the area(not cheap though!)..I live in this area and alot of the local places are priced for out of towners, However I wouldnt advise a lunch visit as it is very! busy and crowded and all the lakeside window seating is taken right away and the other sections make you feel like you got the "bad table"..you know the one by the bathrooms or the door..(yes we got the table by the hostess area..wich means we had to listen to teenage girls chew gum and talk about shit no one cares about while they play with their hair and ignore people waiting to be seated..and why do these teenage girls always have a look on their face likes something smells bad?)
Anyhow..if your just in town shopping and are looking for fun, touristy moderatly priced meal..then stop in.. cool decor and a cute little shop inside to browse...however remember your in a tourist area and anytime between may and oct it is very busy downtown..parking is difficult and you will be stuck in traffic for a bit.. -

We met friends for dinner at Popeyes on a Friday evening in April. It was the first time for all of us and we were anxious to eat here after having heard so much about the place.
Our server, Luke, was clearly off his game, which he knew. He even made light banter about "things happening all at once", but his service fell far short of being able to blame the kitchen.
After we were seated, he breezed past our table several times saying "I'll be with you in a minute". FYI, there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant, so it isn't as if they were swamped.
In the time we waited for Luke to take our drink orders, nobody brought water. When Luke did take our drink orders we had to ask for water. Ten minutes later, we still had no water. Just prior to the drinks arriving, I signaled a bus boy that we needed four waters. He stepped into gear, though they clearly have a police about bus boys serving the table as he had to engage another waiter to deliver the waters. As drinks arrive, Luke commented that he'd be getting the water too. At that point, the other waiter did deliver our water.
Our food was delivered from the kitchen relatively fast, but then sat on a tray waiting for Luke to see it and bring it to the table. When he started to bring the food, he realized that the order of chicken was wrong (it was supposed to be all white meat) so he took it back to the kitchen. Three of us had ordered fish fry, which he delivered on some sort of table stand that was supposed to swivel. Instead, the top was loose and tippy. After a couple of minutes contemplating the security of the stand, he decided it would suffice. In the meantime, it would have been quicker to go get another stand.
The correct order of chicken arrived, followed shortly thereafter by the salad. That's right; Luke delivered the salad AFTER replacing an incorrect order of chicken.
As for the food, the three of us having the Fish agreed that the breaded/fried was much better than the broiled. The broiled was a bit lack-luster (it wasn't bad, it just had no seasoning). Sides were fine and the potato pancakes were actually better than most places in the area. Our dinner companion having the chicken enjoyed it, though she felt it was on par with that served just about anywhere.
I also had to ask for a re-fill on my iced-tea, in spite of the fact that Luke had been to the table several times while my glass was empty.
All in all, we had a perfectly mediocre experience at Popeyes. I'm not really surprised, as all of the reviews that we've read would point in that direction. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, as our vacation home is twelve miles away and we're always looking for good places to dine. -

While in Lake Geneva for a week, my girlfriend and I decided to try to hit most of the restaurants there. She was very excited to have some Lobster from Popeye's, so this was one of our first stops....
The place is HUGE and was packed to the brim with families and kids. Defintely not a romantic or quiet place to have good conversation @ all.
The Broccoli/cheese soup was very good I must admit.
For dinner, I tried the much publicized roasted Chicken and beef brisket. It wasnt too bad, but i have deifintely had better. the serving was a good size, but the taste was pretty average and nothing 'wow'd me on the plate @ all.
My lady had the Lobster like i said and she told me it was pretty good...but for $42 it didnt live up to the hype.
All in all, the place would be nice for a big group wanted to hang out and be loud...but didnt really impress me in any area outside the great soup! When soup is the only thing that i really liked, that shows i wasnt too impressed with the restaurant.... -

Food is quite tasty and they make their own roasted pig and roasted chicken RIGHT OUTSIDE IN THE PARKING LOT! How cool is that?!
The BBQ Pork sandwich is the best. I've come here for years and basically only ordered this one sandwich. Popeye's certainly does NOT give enough fries with any order, that is not a good thing. But the sandwich is very moist, fresh meat, served piping hot, and very tasty.
Though its super bad for your heart, give your soul some happiness by getting a side of their famous Broccoli-Cheddar soup. Its darn tasty.
Cheers! -

I had never been to Lake Geneva before but my cousin was getting married so a reason was born. Pretty place and we ate at Popeye's for dinner. It's much nicer than most Popeye's that are often found on the corners of streets in ghettos. Good for them.
They had a bunch to choose from, I remember having to decide between 4-5 things for my meal. I also got good beer 22oz at a time. Wish I could remember what it was called. They also have cute margaritas and frou frou shit too, for the ladies.
This is a great place to go if you're a pre-emptive homewrecker as there were at least 3 bachelorette parties going on the night we went. Our server was super nice, that's how the midwest is though, so no bonus points there.
We had a huge table and were taken care of. They make a big deal about birthdays I think. And, the dude at the door is an affable cut-up.
Good for him, good for Popeye's. Thanks for the grub and suds. -

This is a pretty safe spot, and the food is decent, but nothing I'd miss after the revolution comes and prevents me from traveling wherever I choose for brie with shrimp.
And yet, I will be back. Because it's a charming place that's not trying to overreach. It's friendly and casual
I must put in a good word for the gumbo and the greek salad.
Sometimes three stars is exactly what I want. And since they do it so well, I'll give Popeye's four. -

You know how you go into a chain restaurant, like Bennigans or TGI Friday's and they have all that old-looking, "collectable" chotschky decorative crap all over the place that looks REALLY forced and contrived? Well, that's kinda what this place is like on the inside...only it actually seems like an organic collection of chotschky-crap.
Popeyes is a VERY popular LG eatery so, unless it's off-season, it's very common to wait for a table. But there's a pretty good reason for this: an ENORMOUS selection of decent food at decent prices. Everyone you come here with can find something they'll like. The first time I came here I was actually disappointed that it wasn't primarily a seafood place...but I've gotten over that. They have a decent "Greek-style" selection - which I LOVE. Actually, for this reason and the size of their selections, Popeyes is kinda like your typical Chicago Greek Diner...kicked up a few notches and with a bar. Wheeee!Listed in: Lake Geneva

Popeye's on Lake Geneva is kind of a staple to the area.
I mean, you can't drive past without turning your head and wondering what f*ing animal is that roasting on a spit outside.
Retro cars in the back parking lot.
Great view of the lake.
Yes, totally plastered walls of kitsch.
Overwhelmingly large menu.
Good cocktails. It's Wisconsin, so they serve your Bloody Mary's with a side of beer. Weeeeeeee.
If you're smart, you WON'T go on the weekend, and definitely not during the height of the summer season.
Or you just might want to poke yourself in the eye with a frog leg.
Just sayin'.Listed in: If Only Every Summer Weekend…

Nope, this isn't the fast food Popeye's, but a real sit-down restaurant located right along Lake Geneva.
Over all, it's got a fun, casual atmosphere. The place has a lively environment, big bar, friendly and exceptionally accommodating servers (we made more than a few special requests), and best of all - the beautiful view of the lake. If you're lucky to get a table by the window, you can enjoy the scenery while dining. Thankfully, we got lucky.
As for the food - you're up for a meaty American dining...in big portions. We got several combos and were happy with the roast pork (though it looked dry, it was actually soft and juicy!) and the BBQ ribs. The rotisserie chicken and the lobster were decent for the price. After several drinks, you'd be left with no complaints.
Happy hours are Monday thru Friday, 3pm to 6pm. There's a gift shop on the bottom floor that's worth checking out, too.
I would definitely go back here if I'm ever in Lake Geneva again. Maybe not necessarily for the food, but for the atmosphere. -

Chaos in the deep sea with a view of Lake Geneva. that's how I see Popeye's.
Hustle and bustle of the patrons and servers. Place is a bit chaotic, but they work it well.
Portions are huge so you'll walk out stuffed. Food is traditional bar food with a heavy seafood influence.
However, they go against industry standard with no refills for soda pops. Yet, you can get free refills on iced tea. Huh? -

This place is always packed, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, but it is reliable and consistent. If you are here in October, go for the German specials. They are terrific. Last night we had the Canadian Bluegill and it was very good. But the winner was the German Pork Schnitzel with spaetzle and saurkraut. We almost fought over it, it was that good.
Service can be rocky if it is really, really busy, but we always enjoy our visit, and look forward to returning! -

I'm giving it two stars and I think its out of guilt. The last time I ate at Popeye's was a long time ago and I had great service and not so good food. When my friend brought it up this past weekend, I was hesitant but thought...maybe it had gotten better.. Um. No.
I've never really giving anything a bad review until now.
This time. I had good food and lousy service. This place can't seem to get it right. We were there at 630PM for fish fry friday and it wasn't that busy yet. We didn't have to wait and was seated at our table promptly.
Nothing annoys me more than being seated then watching your waitress go by you several times saying she'll be right with you and finally she shows up. We ordered our appetizer and fish knowing getting her to come back would be a hard thing to do.
We ordered chips and salsa for our appetizer and ordered a side of guac to go along with it. The salsa was horrible, chips were beyond greasy and as we guessed earlier -- we had to ask our server twice for the guac.
Our fish came, which was surprisingly good. But while everyone else in our section got their applesauce and cole slaw, we had to ask for ours then only got our applesauce. At this point, I was done.
And this maybe a personal thing with me but seriously, for the amount of business this place does...do you have to charge for each refill of soda?
Sorry Popeye's -- while you have cute decor and for once the food was good...I will not be coming back -- three strikes and you're out. You can keep your lousy service and overpriced food for the tourists. I'll be at my local moose lodge....
