So every now and then, I really get sick of the LES. It's definitely hopping but has gotten too crowded to the point where you're sick of dives, and you long for that good-looking elitism where people actually attempt to dress nice! I missed the Meatpacking District. After sipping down some early night cocktails at VDT in the Maritime, we started to roam around a bit- alas I quickly remembered that what I didn't miss about the Meatpacking was steep cover charges and long lines-even for 5 hot girls, I just didn't want to drop down $30 to get into a B&T filled club.
Insert Pop Burger. How funny is it that there's actually a pretty cool lounge in the back. Our discovery was by way of the Top 40s jam (all good things- more on the Hip Hop side if that's your style) that we heard playing behind a fast food burger joint. The bartender gave us the once over and said there was no cover, just come in and have a good time. So we did! They asked us nicely if we wanted a table even, instead of straggling by the bar. Since it was my friend's birthday, we requested a table and was seated right away.
I liked the beer selection; I had a Pilsner, which I don't see around too often. Their cocktails were kind of pricey, but I guess that's not new for this area (except the cocktails were pretty shitty from what I sampled) so I'd stick with the beer. Goes perfect with those famous sliders! I thought the sliders were good, in defense , they were definitely not fast-foody tasting. Grilled to perfection, and leaves you with the right amount of "feeling full". I really like the bread- which gives it the "pop" . We also ordered some other basic bar good apps- the calamari was good and the mozzarella sticks (which were ok.. because the cheese kind of hardened which made it taste like fried Polly-O).
I really enjoyed the scene here; they music was hopping, the people were friendly and flirty. They even brought out a free dessert for for my friend with a birthday candle- which was nice. Usually places are sharks about that and charge you for it. We didn't even order that many drinks; just one round.
The only bad thing about this place was that the cocktail waitress was pretty incompetent; she spilled our drinks the first round then went on about the whole incident for 10 minutes as if we would have found that charming. She was SO sloooooooooow.
But anyway, it' a good time; if you're looking for somewhere in the Meatpacking with nice people and no serious price tag- this is for you!
So-So Burgers, Pretencious, Overpriced.
Go down the block to "Bill's Bar and Burger" for a "Superior Burger
Experience"
Interesting....
We decided to come here for a late night fix after drinking the night away, and it wasn't bad but the service was ummmm... Interesting.
The burgers were cute and tasty but the fries and the onion rings were a little greasy for my taste. but it's a burger joint. If you find yourself drunk and hungry and you happen to stumble by this place go in and have an "interesting" time.
Bitchy employees serving boring burgers that you're eating only because you had too much to drink. Not worth the chaos or calories. I prefer a Gray's Papaya dog, which is a least served quickly, without attitude and without the future Real Housewives of Hoboken.
Pop burger. I've been here 3 times. The sliders are really good and the fries aren't half bad. They're straight cut, medium thickness. The place has a lot of white...Looks a little like something out of Clockwork Orange. There's a lot of tvs with stuff playing, there's a pool table out back. I tried the lobster nachos and they were pretty good as well. Check it out.
I discovered this little burger joint on a film shoot (they made me eat the mini burgers all day for continuity purposes..awesome!!)
I decided to come back for lunch one day and ordered the Pop Burgers (plain.) They're really good and made the way I like my burgers--hot, juicy and of course, tasty. Alright that sounded weird.
But seriously, this place is good. Yeah, the 2 mini burgers are $6.50 but it's New York. Everything is going to be expensive. The vanilla milkshakes are also good!
I come here whenever I'm in the area and..feel like having some burgers!
Also, FYI..the food at the Pop Burger on 58th Street is pricier!! That's what Midtown Manhattan does for ya!
Came stumbling in late Saturday night, pretty wasted, and starving. The burgers were tasty and hit the spot, the fries had an interesting texture, can't say I liked it, but were good enough.
As a venue, it was pretty crowded, and had a decent vibe in the back. Not in the front where it feels like a fast food joint.
There was a small booth with a porno playing inside. Didn't really understand why. There's also a pool table in the back.
Ok burgers nothing to flock to way over priced hit or miss fries are ok
I was really hungry. Reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally hungry.
So while wandering aimlessly in the District of Meatpacking, I came across Pop Burger.
I ordered me up two mini burgers, fries, and a soda pop.
Burgers: Meh. I mean they were kind of tasty, but in the end felt like an upgraded fancy white castle burger. Nothing mind blowing.
Fries: I have read some people so bonkers about the fries, but I just do not get it. They were edible, but again nothing to write home about.
Soda: Well it was a can of A&W root beer...so yeah it was tasty.
Service was insanely fast. I might have been in and out of the place in under 45 seconds. I walked in, placed order, debit was swiped, and bag was handed to me. That was extremely fast food.
I went to this burger joint for a Reebok 20th Anniversary event. They continuously fed guests their tasty mini burgers and had an open bar when I went. The burgers were absolutely divine! I haven't had a burger that juicy and tasty for a while. I was in burger heaven. It's pricey but worth it. The loungey place is a plus! Make sure you go to the midtown location for the Ocholoco offer on the eighth of each month. Check http://8coupon.com for more information. I think it's two mini burgers for $1.88 while it's normally $7.00. What are you waiting for? Run! Don't walk!
I want to say, Pop Burger as a lunch or dinner place is good. However, the bar/lounge on the upper levels is the singularly worst experience I have had in the NYC night life scene in six years. We had booked a private event ahead of time, only to show up and find the bar unprepared, rude, and totally incompetent. Many of our party were turned away at the door, despite the fact that we had arranged this event and PAID in advance. Rather than address these problems, the management and security saw fit to rather argue with us - a group of doctors and medical professionals, for the record - and continued to be rude and unprofessional. If you are considering Pop Burger for any sort of event or private function, spend your money elsewhere.
I am only rating the 'bar aspect'.
Went here with work people after a dinner and once again my experience was not very good. After you get over the initial 'wow the decor in here is interesting' the experience goes downhill. The wait staff is somewhat unhelpful unless you get bottle service and frankly looked at me as if I was really cheap when I said I didn't want it. I actually specifically said we didn't want it because last time they didn't even bother to ask me when I brought people here after dinner at another place. Additionally the jack up the radio to the point where you can't even have a conversation. Won't be going back any time soon.
Meh...the burgers are nothing to go crazy about, 2 tiny burgers in a box w/paper thin patty. Shitty service?? - Totally!!!
Awesome Fries and Onion Rings Though.
This place might cut it at 4 am after gettin shtfaced at a club nearby...
The service I received was fine. The burgers though, were so disappointing.
First of all, the prices? Come on. I think I paid 8 bucks for two little sliders. You pay that much for Kogi but at least stuff from the Kogi truck's amazing. The pop burgers were okay aka barely passable if you're hungry. For some reason the meat was super heavy for me and I could barely finish it.
Bottom line, I can swallow steep prices if the food's worth it but these little burgers were not good.
So my friend was in from out of town and she was dying to go to pop burger since she'd heard about it on a food network show. I am a burger fiend so of course I was down for it.
I don't know about most people, but pre-packaged meat does not a delicious burger make. How this place has gotten good reviews completely blows my mind! Claiming all that atmosphere crap is bullshit. The food has got to be up to par. People are clearly caught in the ooh burger joint with a lounge spin stuff - whatever.
Sliders were cold, clearly not fresh, not juicy, not tender, basically not anything that is associated with a good burger. This is an American staple so I take disgraceful burgers as a personal insult. To add more insult to injury, they are not well priced, especially considering the quality of the meat. I, having seen the review on yelp, directed my friend to the cheaper counter towards the front, versus the lounge. Still not that cheap.
My review can be summarized in one word: SUB-PAR!!! This place is like papaya dog, a place for drunkies to get a late mediocre bite, except this is not cheap and papaya dog is way better.
My Best Friend and I went here, and it was okay. I thought the burgers were gonna be out of this world, because I had heard great things, but they were average. I did enjoy the fries a lot though. I also liked the way the place was setup. Overall it isn't bad.
I really enjoyed my time here. We hung out in the lounge in the back and the music was pretty good and for a Tuesday night, the crowd was pretty poppin'. I really liked their burgers and fries, but the drinks and service were also surprisingly good on this night. I'd definitely go back but since I'm not a fan of the Meatpacking district area lounges/clubs or bars, I'd probably only go during the earlier part of the week to avoid the tourist and B&T crowds. All in all, these were some good sliders. I'd go back.
I f'ing hate it when certain things take a place in your heart.
Nieces...friends....Pop Burger. YES. Pop burger. Ugh.
Pop Burger, back when Meatpacking was cool..was my best friend. The kind of friend that tries to make you fat by feeding you to feed their own self esteem. But nonetheless....these burgers were...so good. They were my late night fix. Those, and...well...the fries....the onion rings.....
....thank god for good metabolism.
Now that Meatpacking is no longer....well, my cup of tea...I still have painful withdrawal from Pop Burgers. Late night street Kebab just doesn't hit me the same way.
Feenin for a burger right after work so my friend met me over in the Meatpacking. We rate cheeseburgers everywhere and this was totally up there! You get two mini burgers with tomato cheese and lettuce. Onions were + $1. Top it off with a Heineken..mmm mmm mmmmm. It was more than satisfying. The thing that gave this place extra extra bonus points was the playilst. We sat in the front while the lounge/bar area is in the back but you can still hear the music loud and clear. Common, Q Tipp, Mos, De La Soul, and some rock songs here and there. Fun experience.
On a side note, hit up The High Line afterwards. The railroad turned elevated garden just one block down.
If I could add a negative star rating, I would. Today was the second time I ate at this restaurant and received terrible service. The woman working at the front register has a terribly rude demeanor and has been consistently disrespectful. It's funny that ordering a sandwich can be such a bad experience. Today, she confused our orders and when I asked for sauce on the side to make up for the order being wrong her attitude was completely unnecessarily heinous. The entire cooking staff stood there doing nothing while I argued about the order being wrong and trying to get a side of sauce. There was absolutely no reason for something so simple to be an issue. Sauce was left off, all I need was some on the side and it has to escalate into an argument because this woman has zero customer services skills and a terrible attitude. I continued to place a to go order after having to fight with this woman. She then has the audacity to correct how I ordered the milkshake. I order a white and black milkshake and after an unnecessary standoff over sauce, she dares tell me that it should be ordered as a black and white milkshake. I then proceeded to eat a dirty table and watch another guest have ketchup explode all over his clothes because whomever on the staff filled the ketchup failed to close the seal on the container.
DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!
Didn't eat here. Barely remember drinking here. Do remember some weird little porn booth in the back... classy.
Cute, hip place. The prices were a bit steep for mini burgers. They're just burgers but smaller. I liked it though. They were really tasty and cute.
Both of these stars are for the food - which was good. Burgers yummy and lobster nachos with guacamole fantastic.
But the fact that they come with thumping bass and general pretension is not interesting. We made the mistake of sitting in the back - the front area looks like a reasonable place to have a burger and shake.
Pretty Pretty Tasty Burger!. (Larry David impression)
I order a Burger box and diet coke. I open the box and I see two mini burgers. Now, I like a big burger but these little bite size burgers hit the spot. The bun was toasted and fresh, the sauce had a nice flavor and the meat was cooked to perfection. The minis had a nice char broiled taste. I didn't get fries and a shake because I'm trying to watch my girlish figure. :(
Nice place to come for lunch and chill out.
*NYBULLY Approved*
.
Sliders.... that what I call them where I come from. I'm not sure what I think about the mini-burger craze. I wasn't even aware they served mini-burgers when I ordered them but when I opened the box the first thing I thought was 'slider'
Don't get me wrong, they weren't too bad. The ingredients are good. Excellent toasted bun and the burger meat was great quality... not the typical quality that I typically expect with my sliders. The big surprise for me is the price. Having come from Chicago, it wasn't too much of a shock for a trendy mini-burger but if you're really hungry you can find more for your money elsewhere.
Only for the "FAST Food" front section - especially during late night munchies run.
Mini-burgers are great but pricey at $6 for 2 sliders. You can also opt for the chicken sliders at $8 for 2. The actual patties are thicker than your normal slider, with cheese enveloping the patty and a special sauce, they are tasty little things. The fries are magnifico. Perfectly seasoned and crispy. The onion rings, the batter on them is delicious. You can also order beer cans ($5 for Heineken, amstel) at the front counter *CHA-CHING*!
The only thing that bothers me is that their bathroom is behind the velvet ropes of the lounge area. If you eat in the front and need to break your seal, you need to show your ID. Just to pee. How stupid.
As for the Lounge area, I give it only 2 stars. The food is double priced in the "lounge", but more variety. But you are going to a place called pop BURGER, you would probably be better off getting burgers rather than getting their other menu options like lobster roll or duck spring rolls. Even so, why order sliders (2) for $12 back here when you can get them for $6 in the front. FAIL.
As far as drinks and scene go, the lounge is off and on fun.. I've been to the lounge 3 times and it's always been either a boring time or a fun time. They also have a pool table in the back which is kind of odd for the "lounge" atmosphere they are going for.
On the way back from my most recent trip to Western Beef and Chelsea Market, I wandered into Pop Burger for a much needed meal. My buddy used to work at the original Pop (sans Burger) on the East Side; but was more interested in discussing the Basquiat's hanging on the walls than his old job.
We sat eating our two small burgers, fries and cokes and after a moment, we both stopped. He stopped chewing and stared at me quizzically.
Him: What is that?
Me: What is what?
Him: That taste, what is that?
Me: I know, I can't tell; but man is it familiar!
Him: Oh my god! These things taste exactly like a Big Mac!!!
Me: Holy (redacted), you're right. It does taste like a Big Mac!
Now, its not necessarily a bad thing that Pop Burger's burgers taste like Big Mac's...at least you know you're eating a "Big Mac" that wasn't made from beef that fell off the back of a truck. But its still basically a Big Mac and while they're tasty little burgers, they're not 4-Stars tasty.
I'm not going to rave, but I'm not going to bash, either.
A-OK is appropriate. This place didn't do anything great for me, but if I'm in the neighborhood and I want a slider, I would defintiely go back.
The fries and onion rings weren't bad.
I think I'm giving this 3 stars because it's just overpriced, to be frank. It won't break the bank, but I think the lady and I ate for like $27, and it just wasn't a $27 meal to me.
But if you want a tasty slider and some good friends, hit up Pop.
This review is based off of coming here usually in the wee hours of the morning after an evening of drunkenness and/or dancing.
Pop Burger, I have never seen you in the daylight. Hell, I probably wouldn't recognize you in daylight. I would just walk right past without a second glance.
But at night, late night, with my booze goggles on, why, I love you man. I really do.
Whenever someone yells, "let's go to Pop Burger!" just when I'm about to call it quits in the evening, after tramping around in heels and about to break an ankle, all my pain and teetering vanish and I reply a resounding "YES!"
I don't eat the burgers, but the chicken sandwich never has let me down. Yes, I'm usually drunk and it's late and I want to get something in me that's relatively wholesome. I count a chicken breast with lettuce on a toasted bun wholesome. And their fries cannot be beat.*
They always have some cool tunes blasting out, which we inevitably warble along with (I don't warble drunkenly alone, or try not to) and once we are done with the crooning and the scarfing, we don't feel the need to stick around.
Pop Burger, you always give me what I need when I need it, and I want to thank you for that.
* I lied. They can be beat, but they are still pretty darn good!
oh the fries! perfect texture, temperature and taste. i can't stop thinking about them!
I really love coming here, the food is really great and the atmosphere is really cool. I love to come here eat have a few drinks and play a little pool.
Oh yeah. Lunch hit the spot.
The diminutive burgers were intriguing and quite tasty, and overachieving fries...well, quite fab.
Rock on Pop Burger.
Pop Burger is awesome--blows White Castle out of the water, for sure!! You walk in and it looks like you're entering a lounge cause there's two guys outside manning the door. You enter and minus the food ordering area, it could very well be a bar lounge with the suave decor and lighting. We order 2 orders of the pop burgers and a side of fries for take out, so we don't take in much of the ambiance.
In less than 10 minutes our perfect sized sliders, fries and complementary onion rings are ready. Too bad it's another 15-20 minutes till we reach our destination to eat them. No longer pipping hot, but still warm enough, I admire the little perfect sized cheese slider. Notice the perfect lil patty, the shredded lettuce that's not spilling out or overwhelming looking, the cheese so perfectly melted, (oh) and that special sauce! It was love at first bite! I was literally sad when I had devoured both. The fries were excellent, and so were the onion rings. I put half of an onion ring in my second slider for fun, and it turned out to be a yummy idea.
Will definitely make this a regular stop when I visit NY again. Maybe I'll dine in for the full experience next time.
This place strikes me as significantly cleaner than the Pop Burger location near Central Park.
We stopped here to refuel after a Saturday morning walk. There were only a few other customers in the place, so it was nice and low key. There were workers futzing around in the nightclub portion while we ate, so we got treated to a nice little DJ set of 70s/early 80s punk and ska. (Actual ska, not the outlet for Republican HS marching band weenies who were otherwise too threatened to participate in the punk scene.) It was a nice surprise.
Once again, tasty little burgers. They even toast the buns. Fresh crunchy lettuce. Melty cheese. This was perfect freezing-day-walking food.
hungry? want to go to a hot spot? can't decide between your warring desires? negotiate a peace accord between your personal yin and raging yang - pop burger.
enter into something that looks like a generic fast food place. skip it. head the whole 15 feet into the bar/lounge area, ask the nice young lady for a table, and lounge on the couch snacking on delectable charcoal grilled sliders, breaded fries (fried fries?) and a tall cold one. not bad at all. on a recent saturday night, there were no whack lines, cover charges, dress codes or other meat-packing district bullshhhhhh.
the dj spinning a fantastic mix of old school, new school and out of school adds to the laid back vibe. don't get me wrong, people in there are having a good time (witness the girl playing hide & seek with her friend who ran - full bore - into a couple at the bar. who she didn't know. twice.) but the focus is less on dancing and more on drinking and chillin' with your people.
if the food and the music aren't good enough, take yourself and that special someone to the booth in between the bar and the back area. i don't want to give anything away - but they play p0rn in there!!!
very trendy...wandering meatpacking and friend wanted food on a sunday 1145 p.m. this place was open and she had some egg rolls that she said was ok and me and the hubby had the apple pie...it was aite.
really liked the ambiance! great music and movies on the wall...
very cool.
OMG.
the best 76 bucks we (3 girls) spent at 3 a.m. on delicious burgers (and more drinks), cheese sticks, and awesome fries (and a few more drinks).
it's a great place to unwind. we didn't wait in line because we went straight to the lounge and ordered with the waitress.
We couldn't finish the burgers so we took it home with us.
It was even good the next morning, when it was a bit cold and soggy. the FRIES ARE DELICIOUS.
I think we made a mistake by stopping by Pop Burger on a Sunday afternoon instead of on a late night-drunken-food run mission. The burgers were pretty tasty but I didn't like the fact that they weren't made to order - after waiting in line for a few minutes I placed my order and was handed a box of burgers that had been sitting on the grill (I guess to keep them warm) for who knows how long. My friend ordered hers without cheese so she was able to get a couple of freshies but that also meant I ate my burgers while waiting for hers to be cooked.
Fries were pretty good but again they would have been so much better if they had come directly out of the fryer instead of directly under the heat lamp. If I'm ever in Chelsea late at night looking for some food to keep me going I might give Pop Burger another shot. Otherwise, I'll pass.
It baffles me that despite my less than enthusiastic opinion of their burgers, I actually find myself coming here often. Perhaps it's their proximity to my house, but in retrospect, I still am not sure Pop Burger is worth the block and a half walk (avenue blocks, mind you!). I'll grant it to them that they've got quite the interesting aesthetic: the staff is totally hip and it's not often that I can go out for a burger and eat it while bobbing my head to some house beats (well, actually, the other night it was Boys II Men and Mariah Carey - not exactly appetizing, but ridiculously humorous - how I miss junior high!).
But when it comes down to the food, I just don't really think it's that good. The one thing they do spectacularly is their milkshares, which are super thick and delicious. However, the beef burgers are dry and not well seasoned. I liked the turkey burger, which had some awesome spices mixed in with the patty, but where's the special sauce! It's no fun having to put condiments on my own burger! (This actually might be a NY thing (do NYers only believe in self-applied condiments?) so I'll try not to hold that against them). The onion rings were tasty (perfectly crisp and definitely hot), but I could do without the fries.
Really? Who goes here? This place is a mess.
I mean, the food was pretty much gross, aside from the sliders which were pretty darn good. The calamari seriously was just rings of squid with disgusting beer batter on them, and the drinks are ridiculously over-priced for the amount of alcohol that's in them. Not to mention they are served in small glasses. The waitresses are nowhere to be found when you need them.
I'm a fan of music. I love going to concerts. I love dancin' and gettin' rowdy.
But not when I'm eating.
Our group could barely hear our own conversation, the music was BLARING. It really was one of the most unenjoyable nights I've had here in the city.
Pop Burger needs to GO.
