This place is excellent in every way. As far as consignment stores go, PLRG at Davis Square has an awesome selection from a variety of different eras. They have practical pieces and more costume-y items, plus tons of shoes, accessories and adorable purses.

But here's what really blew me away and inspired me to Yelp -- on my most recent visit to PLRG, I found a cute Ann Taylor blouse priced at $24.  I thought it was reasonable given the condition of the garment.  I brought it up to pay and without me saying a word, the salesgirl said "Hmmm....$24 seems a little high. I'm gonna charge you $18 instead."

ummmmm....OKAY!!!!  I was perfectly ready to pay $24 and they just reduced the price for....fairness?  I was flabbergasted but obviously happy to save the $6.

After finding myself smitten with the little PLRG offshoot on Newbury Street, I tried several times to visit this, the mega vintage-consignment, home base. Sadly my crazy work schedule and their early side hours kept me from actually getting inside (for a half year of attempts!).

Happily, last night I was able to sneak away a few minutes early. I hopped a train to Davis, mad-dashed to PLRG, and started rummaging, focused on getting the most out of my 30 minutes in the store as I could.

And I did!

Wow. Just wow. What a selection here. This is an entirely crap free zone (yay), and they have been expanding their vintage collections which is amazing. You can find gems from the 50s-80s, all clean, all pristine, and ready to be worn.

In the "Modern Secondhand" section you'll find higher end consigned items from labels, boutique-lines, etc... I accidentally picked out a Versace dress with a ridiculous print. Yes, at $128 the price tag seems high. But, when you realize where it's from, it doesn't seem so shocking (hi, this isn't the gd goodwill). That being said, though awesome this was slightly out of my budget (ok way out), and I couldn't justify any future wearings. (Work only lets me on a red carpet once a year and that's passed).

I did some more digging and found (for me anyway), a total treasure. A Betsey Johnson dress from the 90s for $50. I have been enamoured with Betsey Johnson since, well, the mid 90s, when I was in middle school and first discovered the fun of dressing up. ::insert story about all the schmaltzy rich girls at school who got Betsey dresses for a 7th grade formal while I wore a hand me down. cry my shallow ass a river::
Anyway, I tried on the dress and it fit! And it was really pretty - and $50. Yay! and to think I'd always expected I'd need to be a. about to get married, b. swimming in money a la indecent proposal to ever have an occasion to spend $300-400 on one of her dresses. Woohoo.

I also found a new winter coat. Fake fur trimmed for $18. Yay me.

The end. I'll sneak out of work and go back for sure.

Addendum: Star Wars geeks (unite!) they have tons of kitschy memorabilia and schwag. Try to touch it when no one is looking.

Wow! I think that this is going to be the place I go to treat myself to a beautiful dress, a stylish hat or a stunning pair of shoes. I visited this PLRG today after a couple of visits to the Newbury Street store - I'm very glad that I'm made the trip to Davis Square. They have endless racks of dresses, skirts and blouses in every colour and pattern you can imagine and from a bunch of different decades (There's a 50's rack, 60's, etc). They also have a wonderful selection of shoes, hats, purses, scarves, belts and accessories generally.

Today I bought a gorgeous hat with a bow, a pair of tan pumps, a navy skirt (a perfect fit) and a cream lace top. Very affordable store with great clothes that you won't see on every other college girl who wears already put-together outfits from H&M and Urban Outfitters.

One word: Overrated.

Poor Little Rich Girl is an overpriced vintage store masquerading as a consignment shop. I'm assuming they're targeting people who want to feel trendy by shopping in secondhand stores, while still charging Davis Square boutique prices. Cause I can't figure out the purpose of this store otherwise.
If you want resale shops, either go across the street to Goodwill. Or, if you want to maintain your trendy identity, but pay reasonable prices, head to Garment District in Kendall. They court the hip kids,  too, and are actually priced like a thrift store.

I went to Poor Little Rich Girl after hearing such wonderful things about them. I was sorely disappointed. None of the workers said even one word to me though one walked right past me no less then 5 times in ten minutes. In addition, I saw many things in poor condition. I left fairly quickly because I found myself really disliking the service and the selection.

First of all, this place smelled like complete ass. Actually... more like a morgue. It lingered the entire time I walked around and by the time I was out the door for oxygen I was nauseous. I definitely recommend some febreeze... GALLONS of it.

It was amusing to find Forever 21 dresses... pretty much at the same price. I advise you to go to the actual store, your dress will smell better. Plus I'm not much a fan of picnic table-plaid dresses... I think I was doomed from the start.

The chicks behind the counter were too involved in their own conversation and pretty much ignored me... ugh.

I do have to say that I found a cool Rod Stewart record, but was totally overpriced... which they probably need to do in order pay off those cute little red letters on the front of their store. Best part about them.

I really like PLRG and have been a fan since last summer when a friend and I found a rack of dresses for five dollars. "Five dollars!" she said. "Even if you wear it just once you're getting your money's worth! Think about how much you pay for a sandwich, and you only get that for lunch." She was right.

Just like any store, PLRG has its ups and its downs with inventory. Take into consideration, though, that everyone has their own personal style and taste, so it's difficult to please everyone. Sometimes I do find pricing like what I mentioned above, or an AMAZING dress for around $20 that I wore to a very expensive professional dinner in Vegas and to many dinner parties, etc. thereafter. Other times, there will be a shirt for $30 and you're sort of left wondering why. Either way, I've found so many good deals and a lot of different styles I maybe hadn't or wouldn't have considered otherwise by coming here so I try to make it a point to drop in every 2-4 weeks or on lunch breaks.

I just made an appointment today to consign a bunch of my clothes. Only complaint is that it's for October 5, but I'm excited to pull a few dollars out of some clothes I need to get rid of anyway. I'll post again when we see how it goes.

I think I've found myself a new place to hit up for shopping!  I've been wanting to check this place out for a while, and just recently got the chance to.  I had been told before that it is pricey, but when I browsed, I found that it wasn't too bad.  Sure, there is a fair amount of clothing that is out of my range, but there are also a lot of good pieces that are affordably priced.  The setup is tidy and organized by size, rather than color, which I very much like.

So maybe I'm not a true thrifter, because I like these types of consignment shops, that are on the trendier side, where I don't have to search too long for pieces that I like.  It's all good to me, because I left here quite satisfied with a beautiful $14 maxi dress from Forever 21.

Large open store with variety of eras of clothes. Variety of cool kitchenware and knock knacks also. I loved the way the store was displayed. A lot of stuff was organized by size, also a huge plus.  I liked how it was vintage in the back and consignment in the front.  Also very easy to find things not packed, packed packed.  Found a cute bright 60's dress but it was $48 dollars.

I dig this place! There is no leaving this store without some new accessory or clothing item. My last trip garnered me a GINGHAM PANTSUIT. Think about that for a minute. It is red and white checkered much like a tablecloth, and despite the fact that it was ill-fitting without sucking it in, I still bought it.

That's what Poor Little Rich Girl does - it gets your attention with some wild piece that you would have never picked up had you not seen it displayed artfully on one of their racks.

The ladies glove selection is terrific, as are the vintage earrings and hats. I got an old cheerleader uniform from the sixties here, which I converted into a sailor costume for a dance routine (say yes to sequins). I found a Hawaiin printed halter dress that is blindingly bright and screams "LOOK AT ME!" from the stage. Do not be confused, I do shop here for daily wear also. It just so happens that some of their more funky items catch my eye first, and those are better worn to a show or performance than to work.

Also, perks for the store being arranged in a cleanly and organized fashion. Some genuinely nice ladies work behind the counter. If you're in the mood for browsing some cute duds without having to dig for anything, this place is your shop.

In the hit or miss world of vintage and consignment, this place is almost always a miss for me. They range from moderate to pricey. and yes, i know it is vintage and consignment but wow some of the pricey items just are not that special (others are and i will gladly hand you my visa for those). records are 8$  and up but across the street @ goodwill, they are 99 cents.

it would make me very happy to find a coooooool pair of shoes (my size) in here sometime but that has not happened.

i always check this place after goodwill and have come out empty-handed, except for 1 time only (cool stone bracelet).

We went there very close to closing time.  However, I still snagged two pairs of awesome jeans -- one designer already hemmed (hello, I'm short!).  I am looking forward to checking out the shoe section and accessories.  The rest of their clothes are too vintage, but I liked a couple of tops from Urban Outfitters.  I need to do more snooping in that store.  I loved the quirky math major check-out girl with big black rimmed glasses -- you're awesome.

I like that store -- the layout, the cool fitting rooms and the design in general -- all very attractive.  The jeans are very cool -- high end (like Salt, 7s, and others) mixed in with low end like the Sears Bubblegum brand (which I bought -- the best gray skinny jeans for $18!).  I liked it quite a lot.

Well...I'm uping my review a star. Because the owner personally contacted me to apologize for my experience and offered to take a look at my items again herself. Although I had already consigned them elsewhere, I am willing to give them another shot when I go to empty out my closet again here soon. Customer service is lacking nowadays but I'm glad to see that some people still take it seriously!

Sparkly clip on earrings circa my grandma's jewelty box? Check.
Crazy weird shoes and...is that....a Mary Poppins carpet bag?! Yep.
Vintage light brown riding boots in almost mint condition for $40. Yep again.

I seriously might move to Cambridge just to visit this store every week.
(FYI: I get compliments on those riding boots more than the 'trendy' new ones. Love it!)

I've been here a few times... and I just keep on coming back for more!!!

I can honestly say, I am always able to find something that I love, but I can also say sizing isn't for everyone here, which I find to be a downfall.  Pretty much every size is 2-8, if you are not super thin, this store can be very difficult (not saying that it doesn't have clothing for every body type, but it's harder...)

I really love the variety of clothing and accessories.  It really helps to make ones style different or a little more funky.  And everyone loves a little funk!

3 stars because I can sometimes find a cute item here or there, but only 3 because the vintage isn't that great, and the new stuff is cute- but kind of cheap and wont last long (like a reviewer mentioned below)

I have worked at Vintage stores for a long time back in Detroit, and even thought about opening my own store- so keep in mind I kind of have high standards when it comes to my vintage shops.... I have never seen a vintage item here that made me go "Oh my God, this is AMAZING" and squeal with joy... the only thing I've ever gotten from here was a few of their cheap new pieces.

I would call this place a consignment shop with a retro flare.
Certainly stop in and take a look around if you are in Davis, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here if you are looking for unique, stylish, quality vintage pieces (head to Circa or Bobby's!).

At first glance I was not too sure about this place, but the name Poor Little Rich Girl was too cool to pass up.  I was impressed with the amount of foot traffic in the store for a weekday early afternoon (1:30-ish)

It is a unique consignment/vintage shop with new and rare items mixed in.

Some of the items seem over priced, but how do you accurately assign a value to items that some people consider vintage and some consider "old" or "used'  - right?  I found a lot of really cool items, even picked a couple up.  I am not as big of a fan of their clothing as I am the shoes, accessories, and jewelry pieces.

I was slightly annoyed by the fact that staff ignored the customers and carried on personal conversations.  I had to come to the counter and then wait until they finished chatting before they acknowledged me.  But then again, that happens in a lot of retail so I was not too surprised.

I will definitely make a point of stopping in to see what has come in, who knows what great find is just around the corner!

Mostly junk. The "vintage" stuff from the 60's, 70's, 80's is pretty costume-y. The nicer brands are priced way too high (like 2/3's the original price) for a used clothing store.

I try to make a stop here whenever I am in Davis Square.  Even though it is a small place, they seem to have a lot of interesting items.  I always seem to be drawn to their jewelry. I almost bought a pair of plastic stud earrings from the 60s when I was there the last time, but decided against it because I didn't want to look like Wilma from the Flintstones.  If you love vintage shopping or are looking for something unusual, check this place out.

LOVE.

LOVE THIS PLACE.

I'm a big fan.  I dabble and browse in here every so often and I never leave disappointed.  There are some things that are outrageously priced (but isn't that always the case for "vintage"?).  They also have some fantastic finds!

Small little problems with items (like the buttons falling off, but are still with the actual piece of clothing) can garner you some great discounts.  Don't be scared of the "irregular".  I've gotten some great, unique items in this place.  Even when I don't purchase, it's fun to walk around and see what they have to offer.

My piece de resistance?  A holiday sweater.  It's light blue.  With sparkly snowflakes and hearts dotted aboot.  And two foot-high panda bears in a kick-line.  It afforded me the nickname "Panda Sweater" at a party I knew no one at.

Truth.

Be into it.

Over the years, I've come to view thrift/vintage/consignment stores as a sort of playground. I find it a wonderful challenge to sift through the acres of discarded/salvaged/hoarded items to find those rare hidden treasures. The real source of joy, however, is not just in finding the treasure, but in it being at such a reasonable cost that you can justify moving on to the next hunt for even more loot.

Not gonna happen at Poor Little Rich Girl!

I walk in the store and the shopkeeper nearly plows me over. I apologize, and try to back out of the way, but she seems pretty irritated that I had even walked in the front door of her store. Oops, my bad! Shrugging it off, I start perusing the goods. A 1950s TV set has $18 berets stacked on top of it. Ok....

There are purses, there are shoes, there are knick knacks. There are lots of dresses, coats, jackets. Even some brand-new stuff, including Halloween costumes!

But it wasn't exciting. Any of it. And it was all $$$.

There were a handful of pieces that, had they been half the price of what they were asking, I would have taken home with me and worn once or twice. But when you're asking $60 for a sweater that very likely came out of my Great Aunt Agnes's closet (and still smells like it - ew!), I'd much rather walk across the street to Goodwill and try my luck there. So I did.

The set up is weird, it smells very musty (c'mon, even I know there are tricks for making old garb smell nice, if not new), the staff was rude, and I thought their inventory sucked. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is, well, I guess my love for 2nd hand stores just runs that deep.

Sorry, I won't be back. Ever.

Poor Little Rich Girl is a very decent consignment shop located in the heart of Davis Square. Most of their items are modern pieces from well-known labels with funky or vintage accents, but there are several racks of genuinely vintage clothing grouped by decade in the back of the store. There are also lots of miscellaneous items and knick-knacks in the front for sale (mostly from the sixties and the seventies), including things like old records and magazines that don't really serve a practical purpose, but would probably make awesome conversation pieces.

As someone who has notoriously bad luck at consignment stores (I think I've gone to the Garment District at least twenty times without ever finding anything decent) I've found some great items at Poor Little Rich Girl. As with most second-hand stores, the selection here can be hit and miss, but PLRG produces more hits for me than most of my other options for thrifting in the area. In the last few weeks, for example, I snagged a really cute top, the most gorgeous Ann Taylor cocktail dress, and a pair of vintage rose bouquet earrings.

Unfortunately, the vintage selection here (though legitimately vintage!) tends toward the ugly and the tacky. While browsing I've spotted more synthetic fabrics than I cared to, as well as a seemingly endless supply of those horrible long plaid wool skirts from the 70's. Skip the real vintage here and stick with the more modern offerings.

This place is awesome! Every time I go there, I'm amazed by their selection. They have tons of gorgeous designer and vintage clothes, shoes and bags and really reasonable prices. The vibe is great, too, and I love that it's a small local business. I'm such a fan of the owners.

To give you an idea of the kind of place it is, I bought several shirts there last year, and I was eyeing a pair of earrings and waffling about whether to get them. The person ringing me up noticed me drooling over them, and she threw them in for free. (I hesitate to mention that lest people go in demanding free jewelry, but it is something that cemented my loyalty to PLRG and made me feel great about spending my money there.)

The variety is amazing; no matter what style you're into, you should be able to find plenty of stuff. Everything is clean and in good condition, and the store itself is adorable. Yay for Poor Little Rich Girl! If it were legal to marry stores, I would totally propose.

The one drawback: The men's section is kind of sad. I'm not really sure how they could remedy that; I get the impression women just tend to buy and sell vintage clothes more than men do. Sorry, boys. :(

I stopped by here on my way home and took a peek around.  I was hoping to find more designer brands, but instead saw many garments from H&M and Forever 21.

Though vintage clothing isn't really my thing, they certainly seem to have a lot of it.  From what I could see, their vintage pieces were in very good condition.

The staff is extremely friendly and eager to please.  I felt right at home there.

One thing I wish they would change--Sizes aren't printed on their price tags.  It's a bit of a pain to have to dig around inside the garment to find its exact sizing.

I love Poor Little Rich Girl. Instead of a lengthy, rhapsodizing review, heres the basics:
1) They consign 60/40. (At least last i checked they do, although my last check had some strange numbers.) This is higher than 2nd time around and another store ive tried (but forgot the name of).
2) If you're a previous consigner you can drop off anytime 1-15th of the month, no appointment. Awesome.
3) They give you a discount if you spend your consignment money there. (Yes yes i hear you going, "well duh, you just lost out and they made money off you twice!" But consider, i was going to buy this clothes anyway, and its already susbtantially marked down (even the new stuff). Ive essentially just had the bonus deal of trading in my old clothes for new clothes and making some money in the process.)
4) They have cheap awesome overstock stuff from stores like forever 21, which works out because where the hell is there a forever 21 here? (Do you get i like the cheap? Also, i have had success with the cheap stuff i get from PLRG. No holes or falling apartness.)
5) Their consignment clothes is generally cheaper than other consignment stores (Im not paying $40 for someone's used clothing! Are you on crack!? However i also dont do the "vintage" thing. Im looking for the used modern clothing, which tends to be what's cheaper.)
6) Meredith, the owner, is pretty nice. So that makes me feel better about her making profit off my clothing. Plus i admire how she took this newbie business and has made it such a success (such as getting the overstock clothes).

Overall, yea, im a fan.

OK - now I like to come here, primarily because I found my favorite piece of jewelry here. But the vintage stuff is a little expensive and sometimes the pieces are in poor condition - but if something is coming apart at a seam or something, they will give you a great discount.
Do NOT buy records here. They are super overpriced. I don't buy modern used clothing usually, so I don't know how this selection is. I like the atmosphere a lot, and the casual openness of the dressing rooms. Great hats and fur pieces, if you buy this kind of thing. All in all, it's an enjoyable shopping trip and occasionally offers a treasure.

i've been shopping here forever--since it was housed in that tiny space around the corner from its current much larger home. without fail, i have purchased many darling gems and i always get compliments on pieces i've purchased from poor little rich girl.

though a brooklynite now, i will always have the somerville love. to be honest, a lot of that love is due to this very store. obviously i have good shopping destinations in my own hood, but really, nothing compares to this shop.

Not a huge vintage buff, but this place was really fun to shop at.

Two sections to the store, as others have noted.  The front section is more of a consignment-store and I found brands like J. Crew, Gap, Banana Republic, etc.  Found a couple of real labels like Marc Jacob and Fendi in the front of the store too.  Clothing is organized by color and by size, which is nice.

In the back, clothes are organized by year.  Some of these items are a bit pricey -- overall, this store isn't cheap (most nice, new items are between $20-40).  Some of the vintage stuff was upwards of $60 -- but it's interesting.  I came out with three button-downs (two vintage, one newer from J. Crew) and a newer skirt that was in really good shape.  That is something else that should be said -- all the clothing is in really good condition.

There are also cool accessories (handbags, jewelry, scarves, etc.) and shoes, as well as a $5-10 sale rack.  Two thumbs up from this yelper.

I have only been a few times but i always leave with treasures! The staff is super nice and helpful, I asked them to pick out some vintage clothing that would fit me well since I always seem to be attracted to things that never work for me, at first i was thinking "wow, id never wear that" but when i put the garments on they all fit me perfectly and were totally flattering! Don't judge clothing by how it looks on the hanger and don't disregard something before you give it a chance. I left there with a bundle of goodies and had a ton of fun shopping. The accessories are fantastic as well and prices are great considering vintage is harder to find than contemporary items. I cant wait to check out the Newly opened Newbury Street location. Yeah PLRG! You rock!

The owner wrote to me and said she doesn't want anyone to get the hipster vibe from her place.... so... um... apparently that part is unintentional.  She did say she marked down my blazer, but I haven't had the chance to check since I've been too busy.  Anyway, she was very nice about it all.  So, friendly management/staff is always a plus.

The upside of the high prices overall is that I'm considering doing some consigning here, thanks to Doris K's review.

+second hand vintage throwbacks
-itty bitty sized clothing
-odoriferous garments (depending on the day)
+brilliant store name and venue
-astronomically priced

This is one of those places that really does live up to its name and sadly, that's the only awesome thing about that place. Trade/consigners have it made.  As for the consumer, expect to drop a wad on an already well worn t-shirt. You'd be more satisfied diving into the Planet Aid dumpster or pillaging the racks of Goodwill

Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who thinks that the prices are too high and that this isn't all that much of a vintage store.  I liked PLRG when it was located around the corner in the teensy weensy shop that is now occupied by Magpie.  I remember the owner as being very helpful and personable.  I have never even seen her since the shop moved and the salespeople here are sometimes disinterested in their customers' shopping experience.  Some are even rude.

My recommendation is this: if you're in Davis Square and this shop is open, have a look...otherwise, I'd say don't make a special trip; skip this one and move on.

This place is really great. I really like how clean the store is. They have the cloths in categorizes by decade. Price wise it ranges from cheap to very pricey. The employees are very helpful and super nice.

The best part about this place is thats its also a consignment shop! You can bring in some of your collections and sell them here.

This place fits perfectly on that Saturday list of clothing and thrift shops, I say somewhere near the middle.

PLRG has grown on me.  This was our first stop in the Vintage Crawl, and I have to say, I found some quality items.  Also, a lot of the prices I saw were a bit more reasonable than what I had seen before.  They had a great $5.00 sales rack and I managed to score a hot pair of Diesel pants.  They also had an amazing brown leather travel bag for $42.00 which I thought was a great deal, however, not good enough for my wallet =(  They are also part of Bicycle Benefits! I however, did not learn about that until after my purchase =(

I can now firmly give this place 3.5 stars and I'm definitely more open t coming back here.

Poor Little Rich Girl is a great store for shopping and consigning.  I started bringing clothing in here a few months ago, and have been very happy both with pricing and with the demographic of people who shop here.  From what I can tell, everything I brought in has already sold.  I also shop here regularly, and rarely walk out empty-handed.   There's a huge range in terms of price, and certainly some designer items are out of my price range, but there's also a lot that's very affordable for a grad student like myself.  Additionally, if you buy clothing using your balance from selling, you get a 20% discount.

The store does have a bit of a hipster vibe, but not in a way I find off-putting.  I've always found the owner and salespeople friendly enough, though I'm not someone who wants a lot of attention from salespeople when shopping.

I walked in right after stopping at Diesal Cafe, I loved everything.
I wish I didn't have large feet because all the size 8 and 9
little shoes are soo adorable.

TOP REASONS TO CONSIGN SOMEWHERE ELSE:
1. the staff lacks the customer "friendliness"
2. the "rules" of consigning here are too lengthy
3. I made a "drop off" and still no reply about whether the items being accepted or not
4. other shops have better consigning deals and give back consigners a higher percentage
5. my consignment vintage items have been stolen(from a locked up case) at this store and I was not offered an apology, or any refund, or replacement for vintage items. Funny though how the items have been locked up and shoppers don't have a key.
6. the consigners refund check does not come back to you on the 1st of the month, but instead, at the end of the month (or whenever they get to it). And if you did not make more than $50, then you don't get your money back!

I do enjoy this little store.  Even if you are poor (like me), you too can enjoy this store.  some interesting finds in the jewelry case as well!

some overstock clothes, some jackets, many pants, a few formal-ish dresses, many more non formal dresses, quite a few shirts.
