7 reviews for Ponzi Vineyards
I'm may be biased, but it's one of my favorite vineyard. I love the rolling vines and the open space of the location.
The white wines tastes much better for my pallette, but my friends perfers their reds. You can't go wrong with either.
For the taste, it's worth the cost.
Ponzi is one of Oregon's leading wineries. It maintains a first-class bistro and wine bar in Dundee. However, this review is for its Vineyards, at 14665 SW Winery Ln, Beaverton, about half a mile North of Scholls Ferry Road, perhaps five miles west of Washington Square and (to advise you of our bias) about three miles from where we live. Ponzi's vineyards, Winery and tasting rooms are pleasant and include an extensive wooded area with lawns, chairs, tables and regular hours for tasting Ponzi wines. See http://ponziwines.com. There is a sign on Scholls Ferry which directs passersby to the Ponzi Vineyards.
From the beginning of June through the end of August, Ponzi hosts "Sunday Evenings In The Vineyard." We were there on June 7 to hear Terracoustic (see our review). If Terracoustic is at all representative of the talent on offer, these Sunday Evenings promise to be a lot of fun for little money. Bring a picnic and buy a little wine. To quote from the information we received as members of Amici de Ponzi:
From 6-9pm we turn the tasting room into a wine bar - glass and bottle sales only. Come sit in our lawn or play bocce as the sun goes down and listen to live music from some truly accomplished musicians. Here's the lineup:
June 7: Terracoustic (Acoustic-jam-Irish-bluegrass-jazz-Brazilian music all rolled into one)
June 14: Clambake (30's-40's Parisian swing music)
June 21: Rio Con Brio (Gypsy jazz - our favorites from last year!)
June 28: Sutton Sorensen (Jazz and blues standards)
July 5: Rio Con Brio
July 12: Terracoustic
July 19: Sutton Sorensen
July 26: Clambake
August 2: Terracoustic
August 9: tk
August 16: Clambake
August 23: Rio Con Brio
August 30: Terracoustic
There is a $5 admission for the general public (free to Amici members - total of 4 per membership per event) and a $5 glass fee for specially logoed stemless wine glasses. Once you've bought a glass you can use it every Sunday Evening!

All's I can say is get your hands on a bottle of 2006 Pinot Noir Reserve.
Pricey? YES.... Worth it? ABSOLUTELY
Ponzi Pinot Noir is excellent (especially their 2002 Reserve). The rest of their wines are above average.
The problem with Ponzi is that they've been "discovered" and thus their wine has gotten expensive. There are much better values to be had at other Oregon wineries.
Their Beaverton tasting room is relatively simple yet tastefully decorated and is located on a nice property. A big plus is that it is close to town. There is a tasting fee.

Slight bias here... they were a refuge on a bleak day. After searching for housing all day and coming up with nothing, we stumbled upon Ponzi (read: "oh look... alcohol. After a really crappy day. Think we should stop? DUH!") By the time we were done, we had become members of the wine club. We love the release parties (a little crowded for the small room) and really love the wine. Doesn't hurt that it has been served at the White House! Come check it out!

Ponzi is probably the closest vineyard to Portland. For that reason there are probably more visitors there then most other vineyards. The best thing about Ponzi is the setting. I recommend trying the white fleet and a game of Boccie.

Located close to Portland OR, this winery was recommended in most prints regarding Oregon wine country, as well as by word of mouth. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the wines. The wines were good and pretty reasonable priced. I walked away with 2 bottles of the dessert wine, as well as a bottle of the pinot gris. I would've purchased more, but had to budget my luggage space, as Ponzi was our first stop in the Willamette Valley. Lucky for me, there are retail outlets for Ponzi in CA.
I would recommend the dessert wine and Arneis.
