7 reviews for Ponte Vecchio
Since the original review for Ponte Vecchio was written, it appears that there have been some major changes to the menu. Namely with the pricing. Entrees range from $9 - $28 dollars, which is in line with a lot of other moderately priced restaurants. Salads and apps range from $4-$14.
But enough about money.
The atmosphere at Ponte Vecchio is incredible. There is a great view of downtown Cleveland which is easily visible from the restaurant and the spacious patio. The service is great and everyone in the restaurant seems determined to make sure you're having a great meal. The bar area is nice and there is a great selection of wine and alcohol.
I went to a vegetarian food and wine pairing and had a phenomenal meal. The food was great and the wine selections were perfect for each course. I hope to go back in the near future and try something off the "regular" menu (which has vegetarian options - the general manager of the restaurant is a vegetarian and makes sure that there are options for her people). This restaurant really is a hidden gem. Forget all of the other restaurants around town that get all the hype - support this nice little restaurant!
Wow. Have been there many times since it opened. Was there 6 months ago and had a great dinner. But when we returned last week, the experience was a terrible one.
The unfriendly hostess (manager?) was sitting at the bar and we felt as though we were imposing when we walked into the (empty) bar area. Maybe she was having a bad day; but in this economic climate, you'd think she should be thrilled to at least have 3 paying customers!
The service was okay.
The menu seems like it hasn't changed much, but the quality (staff?) seems to have diminished considerably. If only the apparently blind management would realize their prices are now ridiculous, based on what we experienced.
The food was unforgettable! We will not (be able to) forget:
-the brown and wilted lettuce drenched in dressing
-the overcooked beef
-the undercooked and yet empty ravioli (at an "Italian" restaurant!)
-the "gelato" that had that oh-so-fresh freezer taste and texture
We're guessing there are new owners or something, but the hostess has been there awhile (note to new owners: the experience starts from the moment a customer walks in the door!) Also, they seem to be doing some sort of remodeling... without consulting any (credible) interior designer! Gone are the sleek bar stools that provided appropriate clean lines (speaking of clean lines- I doubt that the track lighting has been dusted since the last time we were there!) We can only hope that the tacky tchotchkes (wierd glass lanterns, bad fake greenery) and cheap sheers that attempt to separate dining areas are the next items to go in the dumpster. These knick-knacks (and the overuse of wax candles) suddenly appeared a few years ago when the food was so good we could overlook a bit of trailer chic- including that awful tent enclosure. Now, however, the kitchen's inability to produce any decent food will make us remember the decor...and how much we don't want to ever see it again!
We have been a bi-monthly customer of Ponte Vecchio for 3 years. We enjoyed the view, the food/wine and the staff. What has happened to this restaurant? We arrived Saturday night to be greeted by a less than upbeat host, waited on by an impolite waiter and served food that was not close to what we have dined on in the past. The waiter was forceful, impatient and then waited by the table as I totaled the check. He informed me he did not want to leave tableside because he had only one pen. The view is still there but the bar stools have been replaced by cheap seats, the dining area was chilly and accompanied by the loud hum of the AC. Most of the staff has been replaced and new group lacks professionalism. NOW for the food. The menu is new and lacks the Italian influence that PV has been know for. To my chagrin the Chefs have been replaced by Tom and that is unfortunate. The prior Chefs created incredible/consistently great food. Our meal Saturday would lose in a blind taste test against Olive Garden. This for entrees in the $25 area. My seafood risotto, the special, was dry and smelled like the fish had been dead and washed ashore weeks ago. The entire experience has lead me to take this off our list of dining establishments. Also, please let me know if you know where the prior Chef went.
It's tucked away off the Superior Viaduct and has amazing views of the downtown and the bridge. It's a pretty small restaurant which makes it feel very cozy and intimate. The service was excellent and I actually thought that it was very reasonably priced.
My friends each had a half-order of the gnocchi for around $12 which I was expecting would be a little teaser of a portion but was big enough to have been an entree. The gnocchi itself was fantastic -- not overcooked and both light and filling at the same time. I had the scallops (I have a hard time not ordering scallops if I see them on the menu). Normally I have to ration each bite because there never seem to be enough scallops on my plate but I was served 4 LARGE, juicy scallops and was barely able to finish my meal.
Anyway, I was impressed with the food and the ambiance is unmatched in Cleveland. I'm definitely going back.
Great food! They had a very unique menu and great selection of good wine and Scotch. It has a great view of downtown and good service. I went there for a business diner and we all had a great time. I had a pesto garlic pasta dish and a salmon wrapped scallop appetizer. They had Macallan 12 and 18 and a great wine, Conundrum! I would go again, as long as someone else is paying! No but really great place!
Have been here three times - each time better than the last!
A stunning view of the city at night from some of the tables and a wait staff that is always there to serve. A fully stocked bar with an extensive wine list and very capable bartenders. Reservations absolutely necessary.
The menu is extremely diverse and the portions large. The meals are exquisite!
Expensive...but good.
GOOD STUFF: Very nice place with great view of downtown cleveland and the lake. Food was good when I went, serviice as well. They have outdoor seating in the summer on the stone bridge that they own.
BAD STUFF: The price.....whew doggy, expensive.
PRICE: About 125$ for two people with liquor/wine
OVERALL: Very nice place that would be good for a special dinner...also has great views so if you're trying to show off Cleveland even better to go here. Really like the half of a bridge that they purchased that overlooks the west bank of the flats. Only down side is the price...but if you've got the green go for it.
