A fine place. Out of the way. Food is decent but not remarkable. The ambiance is a solid selling point.

Came here one rainy night and figured we'd try this place. We purchased their groupon and decided to take advantage of it. I ordered the spinach salad with beef tenderloin and my bf ordered the pasta with a lemony sauce.
My meal was decent. The beef was decent, not amazing. The portions were pretty large though. My bf's pasta tasty like it has too much wine. I thought it overpowered everything. For the meal, it came to $30.
I think I would only come again if I had another coupon. Not sure if I would spend $30 on this meal. I'm better off going elsewhere. For the price and food, I probably wouldn't return to this place. -

A good all around restaurant - especially in the summer. Bring a date and sit outside, have a drink and enjoy the live music.
Only downfall, you are right near the train tracks and occasionally one will rumble through your dinner.
Tasty food - many options - salads, pizzas, pastas and specials. and most you can modify to suit your tastes and add on any meat/seafood/veg option. Service is generally good, the atmosphere is not too cozy or romantic, but a nice place overall. I've hit this place up for lunch with my boss, dinner with family, and dates. It works all around.
Pomodoro may be hard to find your first time, it's behind an antique shop and florist and can't be seen from University Ave but don't give up, it's there!
JP - considering you usually love this place and had one bad experience does not make Pomodoro a one star joint. It's a solid 3 1/2 or 4. Unfortunately things happen - but don't lose sight of all the positive things Pomodoro can offer you. -

So I usually love this place, they have the best garlic spread for your bread, the best pesto pasta, some pretty damn good seafood; but....
So I called up around 5:45pm, asked for a table for 6 at 8:30pm. They said they could seat us by 8:45. So we get there right after 8:30, ask if they know how long it will be, they say they have no idea... so 8:45 rolls around nothing, then at 8:55 I ask if they know how long a table will be, "I have no idea, we are really busy", so at 9:10 we left to go somewhere else. Whenever we asked what was going on, we would turn around and the hostesses would start making fun of us. Now I don't mind waiting, but give me some idea of if I'm going to spend 30 more minutes, or should I go somewhere else. Just be straight up, don't make fun of us for asking what was promised, and be professional about it!
I have no problem with waiting to eat, but we had further plans this evening, (which we missed), if you can't seat me, tell me that when I come in or, better yet, on the phone before you take a reservation.
I ususally love this restaurant, but today, nope! Will I go back again? I dunno... -

Great food, and I usually have a great experience here. Last night I was there with a large party and the waitress was just under par. She asked if we were ready to order before taking drink orders or giving us menus. We never got our drinks refilled unless we asked, and we asked for dessert menus but received our checks before we were able to order dessert. The manager was over to help out and he took care of the situation but the overall experience left a bad final impression. Like I said, great food but keep an eye on your server!

Every time I have ever been there, I always leave saying, "why did I allow myself to come here again?" The food is mediocre at best and the service is nonexistent.
If you do go, plan for a LONG wait to be: served, get water, get food or get your bill. It doesn't matter if they're empty or slammed - it's always the same thing. -

Pomodoro is single-handedly one of the best Italian restaurants in Rochester. Other than Lucano's this is the only restaurant I would go so far as to call "good" in the area. That said, Rochester is not NYC and this is NOT the best Italian food you will ever have. That said, it's pretty darn good and pretty close to NYC standards.
I ordered the Spaghetti with Frutti di Mare and asked for pancetta on top. The service was fantastic and the pasta came as ordered. Now, what really makes this 4 stars and not 3 is the sauce. Really ripe tomatoes crushed with herbs and olive oil for a flavorful but not overwhelming sauce (read: overwhelming=bad). The pasta itself is what made this not 5 stars. It's good, yes, but wasn't really THAT tender...
If you want great Italian food in Rochester you will not be disappointed. It's among the best Italian in Rochester. Just bear in mind that this is not the Trattoria L'incontro. -

Just got home from Pomodoro...had a great meal as always...the pizza was excellent and the scallop and pancetta pasta special was equally good. I'll never hesitate to go back...great atmosphere indoors and out, one of the better all around dining experiences in rochester

I have been to Pomodoros many times and never had a bad or even slightly off meal. I tend to go more in summer time when we can sit outside in the wonderful patio area. Service is good. Prepare to wait on Friday and Saturdays. I don't mind the wait. I know others do so that is why I mentioned it. Last I knew they didn't take reservations except for larger parties.

The food is delicious but the services delivered by the hostesses are bad. We were told that the wait on a Saturday night was approximately 1 hour and 25 mins. Thinking that we have great company with us, we will just hang out at the bar and time would pass by quickly. We ended up waiting for 2.5 hours for a table. We understand the wait and business is busy esp during the weekend but the hostesses should be honest with their customers and told us that the wait was more than 2.5 hours! When we checked with them repeatedly, one of the hostesses developed a major attitude and refused to tell us how far off we are from getting a table. It's unacceptable that a popular place like that has immature hostesses and still after the bar was completely full of waiting patrons and we had waited for more than 2.5 hours they were still telling new walk ins the wait was 1.25 hours. Errrr hello?? Can't u see its not that? What?? U need rocket science skills to be able to tell that?? Amazing! Certainly not a place to go during the weekends.

Pomodoro's is overall OK. I think the food is too expensive for its quality. The service there is good, though, and they do make good cocktails.

We went to Pomodoro for a friend's birthday and we will not come back. The only reason I gave it a star at all is because it has a nice outside seating area.
We got there at 7:00 pm on a Friday Night we didn't have a reservation and with a party of 8 we were expected to wait. Waiting we did for an hour and were seated roughly at 8:00pm. There we waited for another 30 mins before we get any service and then another hour and a half before our foods arrive and by food I mean appertizer. Since I am talking about the service I will also mention that our waiter is also a bartender outside. How did we know this? After take our order he disappears and did not return until the food came which is and hour and a half later. We decided we would go get more drinks from the outsider bar and guess who served us? Yes our waiter. Any how, he brought us our appetizer an then disappear again and didn't reappear until the check. There was another table that got seated after us they were done eating and leave before us. So the whole dinner we saw him about three times. Our water and drinks was left empty.
So all that would have been ok if the food was good. It wasn't. We ordered the Humus Trio for appetizer, Spaghetti Con Frutti de Mare and Puttenesca con Penne with salmon added and two dirty martinis with gin instead of vodka( I got charged extra for gin which never happen before) Our bill was $70 for two people plus tips. Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying the high price but the quality has to match the price.
The Humus was good. You can't really go wrong with humus. The pasta was Horrible. My Spaghetti was over cook and trust me when I said over cook because I like my spaghetti soft. I think they might have cook it left it out and the reheated it because the texture was very odd. My friend said it looked like worms for it was white and wrinkled. There was barely any seafoods and very little sauce. With the other pasta dish it was bland, no flavor at all even though it was suppose to be with spicy sauce. The Salmon was Over cooked, dried and tiny. I ate four bites of my Spaghetti and I was starving. Other people from my table ordered the lamb which was really dry and over cooked. Two pizza which I think look the best and a Greek salad and another pasta dish.
I will not come here again. There is plenty other good restaurant in Rochester and if you want to go here, bring a snack with you. -

Good food & respectable service. Can't beat the ambiance. Still, don't expect if you tend toward enjoying one place for dinning all the time that after so many years of constant patronage you will be treated like you mattered. Sitting at your table it is not hard to overhear newcomers receiving all sorts of welcomes after, say, a second visit. Regulars (both for lunch & dinner) are lucky to receive a smile and a goodnight at the end of a meal. Not that one goes to dinner to be belabored, but a little bit of pretend appreciation for a long-standing relationship couldn't possibly be the worst thing in the world!!!

We love the place. Great outdoor seating during the summer. Occasional live entertainment. The food is always good. Decent parking. Prices are moderate. I usually have the pizza, but they have a varied menu. When in the Rochester area, you can't go wrong at Pomodoro.
