About 9:30 pm I pulled in to Coalville, was feeling 'bout half past dead. The planned stop for grub at the local 1950s style shake/burger joint was ixnayed when it looked way closed (or out-of-business?).

Continued down the road a couple of blocks to the brightly lit Polar King.  Ample paved parking in front perpendicular to the road. The prices were about a dollar higher than expected for every entree. Mexican (i.e. sugarcane) coke in a glass bottle. Plenty of entertainment while waiting for your order:  'Elvira: Scared Stiff' pinball machine in the corner, Tough Guy temporary tattoos for two quarters, local newspapers in a pile, and  modern  ~50 inch Vizio flat screen on the wall looked out of place. Plenty of hard-back booth seating and tables.

Single user bathrooms were outside in the back attached to the building were clean; motion sensor paper towels.

The sauce setup was strangely reminescent of  Benicio Del Toro ladling in the film 'Traffic'  complete with the similar stainless steel ladle, lid, rectangular combo holding the typical sauces: green, red, picante...etc. The sauces were decent; but the picante was at the end of its natural lifespan and probably should not have been served.

A server emerged from behind a door to the kitchen and set down our entrees making a few trips of two per tray. It was interested because the server set down the bright plastic trays with the plates of food and stainless steel fork, knife, wrapped in a napkin.

Went up to the counter to get some more napkins (very necessary) and saw a little girl ordering a chocolate-shelled ice cream cone. The problem was that the machine heating the chocolate was malfunctioning somehow so that the chocolate sauce  was not hardening on the ice cream when the cone was dipped. Hilarity ensued as the ice cream started to slip just like Augustus Gloomp.

The food is hit or miss. surprisingly authentic mexican but with cheese. The cheese on top is so delicious. The fajitas were enough for two people and were really quite good. The smothered burrito appeared eerily like its picture on the menu. It smelled the tiniest bit (which is too much) like movie theater nacho cheese sauce and wet dog food. It tasted good though. Ask for the free chips by name.

They also offer american style burgers and apparently american breakfasts options are popular too. Indeed, the main front window of the restaurant has the words "Polar King Breakfast Specials" in large letters with a drawing of two eggs and bacon on a plate. They take checks.

I would not go out of my way to eat there again. For someone who lives there it would be a comfort.

This my favorite in my hometown. Potatoes and the egg. Soft-drink.

Yuck, if I had to even give it one star.  We were on a road trip and were looking for a quick bite to eat.  We should have known not to go when the  person a the front desk of the hotel said there are two places in town, but she had never eaten at either.  We had low expectations, but this was even worse than we expected.  My husband's burrito was some refried beans smeared on a flour tortilla that was sprinkled with cheese and microwaved so long the tortilla was tough to eat.
