Holy Alaskan tchotchke wonderland!
This is basically a giant souvenir shop with all kinds of things emblazoned with the word "Alaska" on them. This means you can find things with pictures of Alaskan wildlife like moose, caribou, bears, fish, eagles, and Sarah Palin on them.
Normally, I'm not a souvenir shopper, but I do like sending postcards to my friends. So I've found that not only are souvenir shops usually the only places that carry a wide selection of postcards, they usually do so the cheapest! As of Feb 2009, I was able to pick up 7 postcards for $1, a pretty good deal!
I didn't get any of the following, but they are available:
Alaskan Ulu blade, various "poo" products (moose poo or things resembling other animal scat), a pooing bear or moose candy dispenser (push the tail and candy falls out of the thing's rear end), t-shirts/hats/sweatshirts/jackets galore, and a lot more.
So if you're into that sort of thing, check out Polar Bear Gifts. They have two locations, but this one is the bigger one, and you can get your picture taken with the giant bear they have out front... evidently the most photographed bear in Alaska!
PS - One tiny deal which garners this place an extra star. F.W. Woolworth used to be located in this space. You'll notice the remnants of Woolworth's in places like the inside of the front doors, and a few other places. Rawk.
