After 17 years when last I was here, this is still one of the best beaches for the all-inclusive activities options:
- Excellent snorkeling (saw hundreds of varieties of fish, sea turtles, and two Hawaiian monk seals)
- Great boogie boarding, especially if you're a strong swimmer and don't mind going way out. You can get a nice and loooong ride in.
- Decent for plain old swimming, but watch out for coral, rocks and such when the current is strong
- Clean bathrooms on site that don't get locked at night
- Picnic tables and barbecue areas
- Huge open grassy areas for football, soccer, frisbee, or hide the pickle (oh wait, that last one may have been one of the condo activities, heh!)
Basically, it's a giant aquatic amusement park, made better because it's all natural - and it's free!
Some might complain about the crowds, but it's not Waikiki crowded, not even close. There's plenty of room for everyone, so come on out and play!

Yes this is a fantastic beach. The view is spectacular, but as others have said watch out for the current. I took my surfing lessons on this beach and cut myself up on the reef pretty good. Our 2nd night my husband tried swimming in this beach and the current is ridiculous. Also, just walking down this beach is difficult because with every step you sink into the sand. Unlike Kaanapali Beach on Maui which was great for walking.
It was nice that our condo was on this beach, but other than the view I was left wanting more.
ok we didn't even need to get in the water to see sea turtles. Three were just hanging out on the shore line posing for all the tourists to snap pictures.
Went into the water with the snorkel gear and almost got slapped in the face by a sea turtle. Priceless. Too many colorful fish as well!! Locals come to this beach ok? So you know its good.

Wondeful beach for those shy of huge surf or rough waves. Warm water; a little windy. There were sea turtles swimming in the reef close enough to people that they could touch them (but you're not allowed). Lots of little keikis which is fine except when you see a mother washing her infant's butt in the same water that I'm swimming in even though there are facilities on the grounds. WTF.
Oh well. Dilution is the solution to pollution.

This is not a safe beach for children. Actually, it's not a safe beach in the summer for anyone. There is a sign there warning of the current and drownings in this area. Unfortunately we stayed near this beach, but had to drive up to Kapaa and other safer beach locations. Just go for a walk along the shoreside....save the swimming for other places.
Poipu Beach is rated one of the top beaches in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, so when my friends and I found out that our hotel was just a few minutes away we were stoked. After experiencing the other beaches at Kauai, I honestly think its overrated.
A string of sandy crescents of beach, Poipu Beach Park definitely has it covered when it comes to the diversity of things you can do. Good for snorkeling, swimming and surfing in the winter. Poipu Beach also includes Baby Beach, a shallow cove protected by rocks from the breaking waves that's great for kids and new swimmers. My friend even swam out to a tiny outcropping of rocks and sand off of the beach where he saw a Hawaiian monk seal sunning itself.
However, the current is quite strong so be careful; the waves can easily push you into the snorkeling area filled with sharp rocks and sea urchin. Also I found the setting to be meh, I thought it was much more beautiful at Hanalei Beach. I do like the facilities there though, with abundant picnic tables, showers, parking across the street, and decent bathrooms. Overall its a decent place to bring the fam, definitely stop by if you're in Kauai.

There's a reason why this beach was rated the BEST beach of ALL of the states!!!

I don't consider myself a beach person.
But after spending the afternoon at this place and watch the sun set past some coconut trees here on Valentine's Day, I'm ready to give up city life and move here to live my life on this beach.
I don't think there's really much else to say.
Oh, I want to go back, NOW.

My favorite tombolo in the whole wide world! When I close my eyes and dream of 'home' or 'paradise', this is the place I envision. Snorkel, picnic, swim, sunbathe, play, monk seal watch, live aloha, live your dreams- here at Poipu beach park.

I have grown up going to this beach. It is beautiful and good for little kids and snorkeling. Also, if you are into body boarding or surfing, you can just swim further out and there are good waves too. So, its for just about everyone! The only problem i have with this beach is with this beach is that within the last few years the sandbar washed away. This resulted in a strong riptide and rocks everywhere. I personally don't like rocks, so its hard for me to go swimming here, but the rocks are good for snorkeling.

Great place to grill, snorkel, watch the sunset, tan and make out with that certain someone...what you do after midnight is your own business.
Although it can get a tad crowded at times-- its a hop skip and jump from most resort/time share spots

Loved this place. We stayed a block up from the beach. Its a good size beach but its so beautiful here. Love the BLUE BLUE BLUE water. So romantic at night when the sun goes down and there are boats out in the distance and the sun hits it just right. And then going over to the cliffs and watching the sun rise AWESOME. If you go to Kauai this beach has to be the place to go. You must go. I want to go back so so so bad. Just sip on a Mai Tai and play in the water. Can't get better this.
Awesome beach with tons to do!
The snorkeling was pretty great here, there is nearby shopping and dining, and there are monk seals who come up on the beach to sleep... awesome to see!
There are nice facilities at Poipu Beach Park like toilets, showers, etc., and there is actually a decent parking situation unlike so many nearby beaches.
side note: while in kauai, "i need to go to poipu beach" became a code for "i have to go #2" between my husband and me.

This is a Small beach. So on the sunny days it is very crowded. My husband and I went on the first sunny of our trip. We took many beautiful pictures and some sun ;)
And was so impressed with, even with so many people, this place is so clean! Everyone was having a good time, and a Monk Seal came on shore to take a nap. So yes again, with every tour being so expensive on the island, A+ for Free activities!

Great snorkeling and boogie boarding. Nice sand, too. Perfect in the winter when the surf gets insane up north.
