Point Break is Waimanalo's lone surf shop. They have a decent selection of new and used boards, sponges, and clothing. I think they also do rentals for the tourists. You know, equip them with a warped Mach 7-7 circa 1987, and send 'em off to their chiropractor via Makapu'u or Sandy's.
I mostly just stop in to buy wax when mine has completely melted into my truck's upholstery.
In keeping with our quest to seek out authentic Hawaii, we made our way to the beaches on the south shore.Right after driving passed Hanauma Bay the coast line opens up in front of us. Beautiful natural beaches, some good for body surfing, others for thrill seekers but all gorgeous. Make your first stop Point Break Surf Shop in the town of Waimanalo, on rt .72, where you can get all the essentials. They rent surf boards and body boards. You can get rash guards and bathing suits. Everything you need to enjoy the surf including advise from the friendly owner on the best places to go. At the end of your day ,when returning your rental equipment ,stop by Keneke's, right across the street ,for some refreshing Shave Ice. This is the Hawaii we love. Waikiki? Haven't been there in years!
