Holy crazy fun!  This was an awesome night and I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.
The night starts with an audition for a Johnny Utah character, which is hilarious in itself.  But, once the Keanu character is chosen, the fun really begins.  Watching the cue card girl's face makes it all worth it....she's hilarious!  And, depending on who your "Johnny" is, it can be an ridiculously funny night, which was the case for us.  The extremely low-budget props just adds to the hilarity and this is all topped by being hit with fake blood, water, beer, and another specific bodily fluid.

The two drawbacks, in my opinion, are the overly juvenile and repetitve gay jokes, which made me feel like I was hanging out with a high school football team.  Also, the "Tyler" character was annoying for me, since she played the role as a ditzy girl, as opposed to the edgy, angry girl in the film.

It's too bad this is time limited....it would be a perfect way to introduce visitors to the fun parts of SF.

    The names Hailey P. I am a Y.E.L.P agent.

Friday night was epic Brah! After I ditched the office I swung on down to my brah's pad for some brewskies before the show.

Some of the dudes were not cool on me drinking with them so I was like, "So what you're saying is Yelpies like me shouldn't be slammin ur drink? "   Forget them, I said Vaio Con Dios BRAH and hailed a cab to the show, I was amped! Dude, the PBR is cheap, AKAW!!!

My favorite was the cue card Babelini, she was bad ass. The rest of the cast was equally bodacious. Plan for getting blasted by all sorts of gnarly liquids, including your brew. And watch out for that buttcrumb Busey, he will try to suck your face.

So what do you say? You gonna go to Point Break Live, or jerk off?

*thank you to Keanu and Surfer Lingo Dictionary*

It was the funniest thing I have seen since Chris Rock in Reno!  The actors are hilarious and the cute girl with the cue cards has perfect timing for Johnny Utah's lines...

I was surprised to see how well the beach / surfing scenes and skydiving scenes played out on stage - the execution was perfect and pure comedy.  Plus the bar is stocked with Tecate and the crowd is small and very fun!

    Simply amazing.

I was disappointed to be edged out in the final round of the Johnny Utah auditions, but Yelp's own Sam S. was chosen, and as much as it pains me to admit, he was ten times the Special Agent Utah I would have been.  Who knew this unassuming ad salesman could trod the boards with such aplomb?  Bravo, sir.  Bravo.

I kept admiring the Gary Busey character's awesome Busey wig and teeth, only to discover after the show that it was the real deal.  These guys don't mess around.  If I could give six stars, I would.

HAHHA... tha'ts all I can say. The show was pretty freaking Hilarious. Watched the movie a couple days before we went to the show and the acting was basically the same as the movie. Okay, well more like our Keanu Reeves was better then the original.

The show was fun, exciting and interactive, and like the other reviewers said buy the poncho! You definitely get sprayed with water, fake blood and other stuff....

one of the best things too is that you can drink in the theatre, they sell 12 packs which was awesome. The only bad thing was that we kept having to go pee throughout the show.

Overall, a GREAT show....highly recommend it for a fun time with your friends. But you gotta watch the movie before hand'

    "Utah! Gimme two! "

HEEELARIOUS.  Christ, if you haven't had a chance to check this out, you need to shoot yourself in the face.

I love how there is audience participation.   The dude who was chosen for Johnny was a class act.  Nailed it!  Not to mention the insanely crazed emulation of Gary Busey's character-I swear it was really him.  Funny story, my friend is the understudy for the Pappas role and it surely would have been a total scene if he was up there.

The crowd was excellent and made the experience worthy of going again.

It was my friend's birthday and we decided to make a big night out for it. This place is perfect for a large group to go and enjoy a show together. It's incredibly interactive and you or your friends may end up as the main "actor". There were about 30 of us who took over the two front rows.

In order to maximize your Point Break Live experience, here are some tips:

    1. Make sure that you and your friends watch the movie together before going. We had a dinner party and everybody came over and watched it so that we could be up to date on Keanu's acting ability. It was really fun and we were yelling the lines out during the play.

    2. BUY A PONCHO! They are only $1 and you will be so happy you did. There is beer, fake blood, white splooge and other miscellaneous liquids that get dumped all over the audience during the show.

    3. Dress up in costume. My friends and I all wore surfer gear, bad early '90s clothing and sunglasses. It was a blast!

This was one of the best birthday parties I have been to in a long time. The cast hangs out with the audience and you even get to dance on stage at intermission and after the show.

Ok... a few friends mentioned that I should check out this show last summer.  i was a bit skeptical and dragged my feet for a while.  But, I finally saw the show last Fall and it was epic.  Every friend/reader who followed the recommendation to see the live show (and dropped me a line) responded that it was awesome and exceeded their already heightened expectations.  Each person mentions a different part of the narrative too!  oh, most friends get the inside goodies here...
    http://www.misterarche...

But I just now realized that I should probably also share with my Yelp friends.   Sorry, I was a bit delinquent!  I'll blame it on the holidays.

And I've heard through the grapevine that they are considering an opening Off Broadway.  Yeah, New Yorkers, enjoy our sloppy seconds....  and it is sloppy!

    SO GOOD!
Are you gonna jump or jerk off?

    1. watch the movie before you go. it makes it better and I think I'd be a bit lost at some points if I hadn't seen the movie.
    2. Get your tickets ahead of time, it will probably sell out a few days before the show
    3. Get there early and buy a poncho. We were sitting kind of towards the back and a little off to the side, so we didn't get much on us (they ran out of ponchos and gave us garbage bags), but most of the other people there got stuff on them, and I don't know if the fake blood comes out...if you care.
    4. FYI they have a bar with beer/wine/hard alcohol and sell 12'ers of pbr.
    5. GO SEE THIS SHOW ASAP

I liked it OK. Would not recommend this for anyone who has NOT seen the movie, or did not like it. If you did like it, like me, or have seen it upwards of 30 times, like me, you will indeed love this.

Probably not a good thing for people who do not like to drink, do not like loud people, or do not like getting squirted with water guns.

I definitely recommend going once with Point Break fans.

If you want to relive your college fraternity/ sorority/ rowdy beer-drenched/ random-liquids-flying-about/ years, attend this show. Ponchos are well-worth the $1 you'll spend, or you're well-advised to bring your own. And watching the movie prior helps too.  You may want to bribe your 8-year old cousin to rent it for you (avoid those funny, pitying looks) at your local video/DVD-rental mart if you're not a Netflix subscriber.

And yes, that's not really Kathryn Bigelow.

"ARE WE GONNA SURF, OR JERK OFF?"

Most amazing shit show of a play I have ever seen.  Run, don't walk to see this play before it goes away.
Kathryn Bigelow  the director of the  1991 movie stars as Tyler Ann Endicott originally played by Lori Petti in the movie.  She also MC's the show through its adaptation of the original.
FBI Special Agent John 'Johnny' Utah originally played by Keanu Reeves is picked out of the crowd after a 1 line audition.  The guy who played it  at the Sat 7:30 show couldn't have been more perfect... He looked super high, mouth open the whole time, marijuana head band..... almost thought he was planted on purpose!
Gary Busey's character was a dead ringer for the original as well... amazing!

Our group sat in the front row after purchasing $1 ponchos at the door. We were double fisted and ready for action after a stop at the cash bar.
"Action Thrills and Beer" is kind of an understatement.  We got wet, bloody (red corn syrup) and one of my friends was enlisted as an extra and killed off after intermission.  Who knew we would be a man down after this play?
My favorite scene was the parachute scene where Bodi (Patrick Swayze's character) takes Johnny Utah and crew for the sky dive of their lives.  My friend Caleb handed Bodi a Tecate while he was sky diving above us, he drank it.  How is that for interactive?

POINT BREAK LIVE "is where I find myself and loose myself all at the same time."

AWESOME FREAKIN' SHOW!!! I went last night with my roommates and some friends and had a great time!!!

For those of you who don't know much about this (and I didn't until I decided to go, which was about 24 before the start of show) it's basically a live version of the cult classic Point Break. The theater where it's shown (inside the Metreon) is a great, intimate location (I would say it seats a couple hundred)!!! The actors are all awesome. From what I understand, it's basically a small acting troupe based out of LA. Well, with the exception of one key role...the role of Johnny Utah, originated by Keanu Reeves in the movie, which is chosen by the audience!!! They basically ask anyone who's interested in playing the role to come up onstage beforehand and the "director" has them read some lines and go through some "stunts" and the audience picks there Johnny.

At the performance that I went to there was about 20 people interested in playing Johnny (male & female) and we picked a Spanish guy (who the audience all thought was French and we kept yelling "FRENCH GUY" throughout the performance). The person playing Johnny has someone walking around with him throughout the performance holding cue cards for him  to read and acts as his "stunt double."  The girl who played the "cue card" role at our performance was hilarious!!!

This is definitely they type of show you want to show up to liquored up. They also serve booze at the performance, which was awesome!!!  Three dollar PBR seemed to be the popular drink of choice!!!

They sell ponchos for a buck in the lobby if you want to buy & wear them throughout the performance. Do this. You'll thank me later!!!

Amazingly good.  Last night's open audition for the Johnny Utah role was almost as hilarious as the show.  We finally decided after the two main contenders had a dance off (at one point there was also a "pants off").

Lots of audience participation.  Good vibes all around and a quintessential SF experience for fun-loving locals ready for a ridiculously good time.

Catch it while it's still here!!

Went and saw this show last month, and have just booked tickets to go again when I have a friend visiting next month.
This show is awesome, we sat in the second row and were glad we had ponchos on, although my arms did look like id committed a murder by the time I left!!
So yes, I recommend sitting near the front and I definitly recommend spending $1 on a poncho.
Go with a group of friends and have a few beers and it will be a blast.

HILARIOUS.  If you haven't seen the movie Point Break, you have to! And the you have to see Point Break Live.  I actually hadn't seen Point Break, but my boyfriend heard that this was amazing and made me watch the movie so I would understand what was going on.  It was a hilarious show!  You absolutely need to get a poncho since all sorts of stuff is sprayed at the audience and you def don't want to have fake blood and fake...well, other bodily fluids, on you for the rest of the evening.

The only minor complaint I would have is about the loud drunk douche bags that can be there.  So you can either chill and just deal with it (you'll still have a great time), or have a few more shots of frenet and more surfers on acid and you can be the loud, drunk douche bag (and maybe have a better time?)! Anyway, it is a definite must see!

I've been wanting to see this show in LA for a long time.  And by coincidence I saw it was opening at the Metreon while I was in San Francisco, so I bought tickets for opening night.

Great cast, great time.  The guys who play the Swayze and Busey parts are definite standouts, but they are all excellent.  I don't think I've ever laughed that hard at a play (in your face Mamma Mia!).

Don't let this stop you from going, but be forewarned: it's MESSY.  If you're in the first few rows you're pretty much guaranteed to be sprayed with water / fake blood / beer, etc.  They sell ponchos at the door for $1, and most people partake.

I need to watch the movie again, stat.

Most excellently true to the important film upon which it is based.

We went in a group of four, two of us well-versed in the Patrick Swayze oeuvre, two completely unfamiliar.  We all laughed a lot.  I also was made to rub suntan lotion into the muscles of a surfer dude probably half my age, so there was that too.

It is funnier if you know something about the movie. Realizing how much is genuine movie dialog is half the joy.  My unversed friends had no idea why there was an Oscar reference and the audience shouting about "The Hurt Locker," when "Katherine Bigelow" took the stage.

    Get the poncho.

This was hands down the best show I have been to in a long time.  The actor that was cast for Johnny Utah was legendary - he had the best mannerisms, awesome delivery, got into it - the cast was having a hard time not laughing while on stage.

The actor doing Angelo was also insanely funny.  Great delivery, remarkable resemblance.

The show itself was fast paced, full of action, funny lines, audience participation.  Make sure you buy a pancho - I was soaking wet after the show.  I would also say that you should sit in the front two rows if you really want to get into the show and it's also easier to see what is happening on the stage.

Only downside was that some of the audience members were too drunk or annoying during the show, so be aware when finding a seat, so you don't seat next to idiots.

Enjoy the show.  I am going again next week.

#4- Buy a 12 pack if with large group

Point Break LIVE is really fun and totally different than any show I've seen before. I'd actually never seen the movie, sad but true, so I rented it a couple days before so I knew what was going on because I knew everyone there would be really into it. The guy they picked to play Utah was hilarious, in a Napolean Dynamite kind of way, and did a great job. Getting sprayed with water and fake blood was expected, and a little  gross but all part of the fun. Wear a poncho and sit toward the back to get less sprayed. It's a really fun time the entire show and a great crew of actors and I highly advise to see it while it's still in SF. It's also conveniently located on the 2nd floor of the Metreon.
