7 reviews for Poco & Mom's Restaurant
I am hesitant to give such a positive review to Poco and Mom's...I don't want others to know so I don't have to wait as long on the weekend mornings for a table.
Poco and Mom's serves New Mexican fare. The green chili sauce is fantastic - really rich with fantastic depth of flavor. I love how they have Chile Rellenos available for breakfast - I love them, and to get them with eggs is genius. The Rellenos are fried to a satisfying crisp, so much so that the texture stands up to your sauce of choice.
The service is wonderful - the servers make you feel like you are at home. They make fun of the 'newbies' to the restaurant, but will offer great suggestions for the indecisive.
Prices are great, all under $10 an entree. Breakfast typically under $7.
Be prepared to wait a bit, the restaurant is small, but parking is plentiful. A true local gem - delicious, homey food at great prices.
I wanted to give them a good review because when the food just arrived, it smelled and tasted great. I couldn't finish the dish at once (portion is huge) so I let it sit for a while. When the food is not hot anymore, I could really taste the saltiness and greasiness in the food. Oh, and the flan we ordered was the most un-flan-looking thing I have had in my entire life. The shape was wrong, it's more like a mini pie with a pile of whip cream. The texture was wrong, it's very chewy not silky smooth, and reminded me of a pie crust soaked in sugar water. I am a little disappointed because the restaurant did give me a home-style feeling. The "chef" is a college age kid who probably also flips burgers at other places. The owner is really friendly. Anyway, I wish I could give them a better review, but I can't and I don't plan on going back there any time soon.
Poco and Mom's is your typical hole in the wall Mexican food. It has a family-run diner ambiance, awesome food and extremely friendly servers. You can tell upon walking through the door that this is a Tucson favorite and that it's frequented by regulars. I have only been here once, but am sure that I will be coming here all the time now because of the fantastic food, great prices and informal atmosphere. The menu consists of traditional Southwestern Mexican food (lots of green chile!) and American classics. I tried the green chile chicken enchiladas- they were to die for! They came with rice, beans, guacamole and sour cream. This is the only thing I ordered and I could only eat half my plate. It was excellent, but definitely on the heavy side. I recommend coming here because it is by far the best food I had during my visit to Tucson. Two thumbs up!
I've been frequenting Poco and Mom's for about a year. The staff treats you like family...makes fun of newbies at your table...and gives you a hard time.
You get soo much more food than you pay for. My favorite dishes are Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas (I substitute blue corn tortillas, add an fried egg on top, and ask for Spicy #6) and Green Chile Pork Stew.
The sopapillas are wonderful as well. Soft & fluffy the way they are meant to be.
Everyone I've introduced to Poco and Mom's becomes a regular, too. You'll be hooked!
This place is as good as it gets!!!!!! A bit small. But other then that it takes the cake when it comes to good cheap food. They have an AWESOME green chili pork stew (as long as you don't mind spicy.). Their chimi's are also very very good. Make sure to ask for the sour cream green chili sauce. They even do drive through, just be sure to call ahead.
This is a must go to restaurant!!!!
Chile rellenos in the Tucson Area rated according to the Homeland Security Advisory System with three word descriptors.
Poco & Mom's: spelled chili rellenos. Yellow

Great little secret place. The only place in town for real New Mexican food. Run by a great family, they have truly become friends. But that doesn't bias my opinion, I am from New Mexico and Poco and Mom's has the best Green Chile Rellano I have ever tasted. Generous portions, good prices, fresh Green Chile...you could not ask for more!
