38 reviews for Pocket Puppies Boutique
I'm really shocked by all the negative reviews here. Yes I can appreciate animal lovers having negative feelings towards places that sell puppies that many view as accessories- and of course I get the complaint about breeding undersized dogs- I'll even concede that I too feel disappointed when I see 19 year old DePaul students look at one another and say "he's sooo cute, you think he could live in the dorm?" And of course my favorite complaint "the prices are ridiculous." I get all this and can understand the emotion behind a lot of these negative reviews.
All that being said, we bought our puppy from here about 6 weeks ago. We were well tended to by the staff, given ample opportunity to make our own decision without any pressure, and were given a solid orientation and list of things we needed to get and do prior to leaving with our puppy. I found the staff to be very helpful, one of the gals that was tremendous with the dogs even gave us her card and said she'd be more than happy to puppy sit very inexpensively if we were out of town. We paid $1150 for our Morkie and to be honest, that is very comparable to other breeders we looked into purchasing from. Pocket puppies does a fair screening to make sure prospective owners are fit to purchase a puppy, and they even give you a packet with all the shot information, a complimentary visit to a reputable vet, and a book of training advice. All of the puppies appeared to be very happy and cared for. They are careful not to let children play with puppies, are constantly enforcing that people use hand sanitizer, and are weary of not letting too many dogs in the open play space at one time.
Like I said at the beginning I can appreciate all the concerns with puppy stores in general, but I think the customer service is good, and the puppies are great. If you don't want to spend the money for one of these puppies than don't! But giving a 1 star yelp review because you think they are too expensive??? Give me a break. We may be purchasing a mate for our morkie and the owner said because they feel these puppies do better with companions they offer 2nd puppy discounts. Did I mention they give you half off grooming and their food/toy prices are lower than Petco? I don't feel like walking in this store for 10 minutes, seeing a lady with a puppy in a prada bag and scoffing at the "above average" prices makes you a good source for a shisty yelp review.
I must admit, I only whisper that I bought Sir Willy at Pocket Puppies because it sounds so pretentious and pricey. That being said, I am totally thrilled with our good looking male teacup yorkie. I was told he was only going to be about 6 pounds, however he grew a pound in one month and I have a feeling he may be closer to 8+ pounds. That's ok by me. He is super healthy, gorgeous, smart and the friendliest little dog. Popular wherever he goes, he remains humble and loyal. haha. (I posted his pics on this site).
Ok, maybe the owner could be friendlier, but if you read the other reviews you will see that people just use this place as free entertainment. They know that they cannot afford or plan on buying a dog. A owner can only smooze so much and true sales means there is money to pay the bills, so let's cut him some slack.
And, surely, if you have done your homework, a good yorkie costs $750 to $1600++ at breeders...so what is the beef? This is a retail store, not a wholesale store.
Following the advice of many people, we checked every shelter, anti-cruelty & rescue. I was amazed that those very large buildings have such a small offering of dogs. PAWS on Clybourn across from Petco had 12 dogs and 20 high-end computers for customer registration and 15 volunteers/employees - hmmmm, let's do the math.... Go figure.
Now that we have owners commenting... I do not believe that, if you are telling people the *name* of the breeder of the pet shop dogs, don't you think they would end up going straight TO the breeder, instead of paying $2,000+ so the re-seller profits. No decent hobby show breeder would allow their fragile young pups to go to any 18 year old girl off the street with daddys credit card. Breed for the breed standard, not just to make profit off of living novelties!
My CLIENTS (not "friends" as you put it) mutt dog has luxating patella, a GENETIC defect that good breeders test for. The other CLIENT has a hypoglycemic adult dog who is missing all of its hair. The dogs I saw when *I* went in did not look healthy, either. She doesn't want a replacement dog through your guarantee, as she's already pretty attached to this one!

My family purchased a dog from Pocket Puppies and it died within one week. The owner blamed us for not caring for the dog properly despite the fact that we did everything he said that we should. I would definitely not recommend buying a dog from this store.
CBS News Channel 2 recently did this story on Pocket Puppies: http://cbs2chicago.com...
We bought our English Bulldog Rosie from Pocket Puppies and couldn't be happier with her. The staff was superb and helped us through the entire process. We had been to dozens of shelters and we just didn't find the dog right for us. When we got to Pocket Puppies and saw Rosie looking at us we knew we had found our puppy. We are not upper class rich snobs, nor are we 18 year old girls with daddy's credit card. To say these dogs come from puppy mills is a sad assumption. When you finally make your payment for one of the dogs the team will sit down with you, go over all necessary paperwork and in the case of Rosie give us her AKC papers. With the AKC papers it is required to show her family tree to prove she is purebred. Through Facebook we found her breeders and her bulldog mommy and we can say that when we saw the place is was NOT a mill.
The prices are a bit high and the products are not worth the price, however for overall service, a great dog and clean environment they get my four stars. I commend them for having such high prices for their dogs. A dog, especially one of the smaller size is a lot of money! Too many dogs are given to Anti-Cruelty with reasons on their cards saying "No longer able to take care of". If more places were like Pocket Puppies and made sure the owner of the dog was actually able to take care of the dog financially the odds are there would be far less dogs in those shelters everyone praises. So save a dog, any dog, go to a shelter or go here. If you go here, you won't be disappointed.
Even if you suffer from having trouble finding appropriate boy clothes for your small dog don't come here. Alas they may have plethora of all things small, but it is not worth dealing disinterested/rude employees. I mean heck you're surrounded by puppies all day what makes you so miserable? Please acknowledge my presence and help me answers my questions accordingly because I will not have to buy and return things a hundred times to get something to fit because I know how much you hate dealing with that. They don't have anything you couldn't get online and for a lot less and online probably has a better return policy if something doesn't fit. I won't be back.
Things I learned from visiting Pocket Puppies:
*You can put a way under breed standard sized puppy in a faux china cabinet and convince people they are not from puppy mills.
*Sick looking dogs are normal, and totally worth the $1300 dollars they are going to charge.
*If you open a fancy shop you can charge three times the normal price for dog accessories.
Hey genius, how about you check out some on-line stores for your accessories, and oh yeah, that $1300 puppy mill dog that you need so bad...
Check out a breed rescue group, save a ton of money, and save a life:
http://www.tailsinc.co...
Then, since you have so much expendable cash, use the money you saved to donate to a local pet shelter.
"Don't breed or buy while homeless animals die!"
So I reviewed Pocket Puppies once before - and yes, I've actually been to the store. I went in thinking I could buy my aunt something cute for her Yorkies (that she spoils like kids, I might add). I guess I didn't realize it was a pet store and not just a boutiquey type place.
That being said, there's a reason the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has a breed standard. And these so-called "teacup" yorkies don't meet it. You know how you get a teacup yorkie? You breed two runts. One thing this pet store doesn't tell you is how much more at risk "teacup" yorkies are for illness and congenital defects. They're more at risk for these things for a myriad of reasons, but they're mostly at risk because no responsible breeder would breed "teacup" yorkies. Don't believe me? Straight from the breed club: http://www.ytca.org/fa...
If you want a small dog, go to a responsible breeder. Don't go to these people. Of course they're cute - they're puppies! Can you knowingly support a store that won't follow breeding standards for the breed they are selling? I sure couldn't.
A note to people using Yelp to research businesses - when an establishment has multiple 5 star reviews, most of which are the ONLY review written by the writer (who also probably has zero friends and no picture of themself) - the reviews are likely fake. Pocket Puppies clearly has a lot of these reviews.
I wandered in here a few weeks ago with a friend while shopping in the area, and I have to say that while these dogs ARE cute, they are alarmingly small and just not how nature intended them to be. They're obviously meant to be a fashion statement as Brian B. pointed out and that's just sad. If you want an accessory, get a purse. If you want a dog, there are SO MANY better options to get one from than a place like this.
I came here once to just pet the pups but the owner or whoever the flashy self-important man that was behind the register ignoring anyone and everyone who walked in really turned me off.
The other employees who were actually handling the dogs were a lot friendlier.. but who wants to purchase a pup that came from a mill/unethical breeders who have no regard to conform to dog breed standards even if they were $25, let alone literally 100 times that price.
UHMmmmmm
I have to say that I am VERY happy with my puppy. I have had my Yorkie for almost a month now and she is perfect! She has gotten a clean bill of health from my vet since day one. The owner and staff are GREAT and I would highly recommend this store if you are looking for a small breed. Please feel free to ask me any questions if you are thinking of getting your puppy here and are reluctant due to past yelp reviews! As being an ACTUAL customer of the store, I can say that I am absolutely satisfied both with our new little one and the staff themselves. Thank you PP for the perfect addition to our family!
04/09/08 - UPDATE - Little one is doing great! New pic posted.
My previous review was deleted. . . the reason was ambiguous as it seems for a lot of other deleted reviews. . . that sure inspires confidence in their business.
The place is all glitz and glamor from the minute you walk in. The pups are priced at about 4x the common price. They tell you they're "tea cup dogs" even though teacup isn't even a recognized AKC standard. They promise you sizes before a dog's size can be guaranteed (6 months is standard).
They often have dogs for sale before it's legally allowed in Illinois (which also means they bought the dogs from a breeder that did that as well if it's local as they claim). Since these dogs are so young, you often can't predict what genetic defects or diseases they might end up with and that's a terrible thing given most of these pups are runts.
The workers know what the owner of the store and veterinarian tells them, but often a Wikipedia page would offer better info than they do.
I think everyone should read Megan D.'s review. I've flagged it before, but now I'm glad it's up because she's a former employee and clearly represents the level of knowledge and service you'll be receiving (it's cool if Yelp wants to embarrass the store). I hope her job application didn't sound so drunk or like George Bush without a prompt. Such priceless anecdotes as:
"To the genious. . . " - she's S-M-R-T.
"She isn't an employee of Pocket Puppies. . . just works there"
"He does this 1 or 2ce every 2 weeks. . . " - twice, 2x, it's all LOLs.
Customer service here is a joke: "That's not a Maltese, that's a Poodle and it's not for sale!!"
Oh really? I don't care, because I'm not going to buy a puppy from a pet store anyway. And please don't tell me those aren't puppy mill dogs when you receive them in "shipments". I'd write more, but my experience there was brief.
My first negative review from here was deleted - not sure why - there was nothing harmful and everything was truthful. I also don't use profanity in my reviews. But I've seen others that have said there's were taken down as well so I'm not alone it seems.
This place makes me sick. They cater to the people that aren't going to take care of the puppy - they just want something by their side that makes them look good. I adopted my Shih Tzu from her previous owner that was seemingly like that and wow she had some issues I had to clear up. So for starters, these poor dogs are getting into poor situations!
Also, the customer service is awful. if you're going to sell me a $1000 dog give me $1000 service. make it worth it...that just blew me away.
I could go on and on but I'd rather not write another long review just to have it taken down for no reason again. This place scares me - the puppies are so cute, but for how long and who are they really going home with? The highest bidder? It's gross.
They have cute pups, yes over priced - but if you're buying from a 'store' then of course it's going to be higher. I would ever buy a pup from this store but they are cute to look at.
The store carries a few clothes which aren't that expensive...especially compared to the prices of their puppies.
Amongst all the negative reviews- I like this place. It always smells great, they have great toys, treats, clothes and accessories for little dogs.
Sheffield is now too big to visit this store with me, as he would Godzilla all the other puppies here, but he used to love to come there and check things out. They are expensive on all their products, but its a boutique store...this happens.
If you have a puppy, buy him or her the peanut butter treats and the chicken Parmesan bones from here. Sheffield ADORES them!
The prices are outrageous. Absolutely insane. The reason for this, an employee told me, was to hopefully ensure that the adoptive parent had the means to give their puppy the best care. Now, people with big bucks aren't necessarily the most responsible, but I can understand the sentiment.
I used to visit Pocket Puppies when I was having a bad day, because I knew those little guys needed some love and exercise. The employees were very nice and knowledgeable for the most part.
I strolled into the boutique one afternoon and, on my way to the sanitation station, locked eyes with a tiny, white Havanese. I knew then I was walking out with that puppy.
Peanut is an intelligent, healthy, affectionate dog. I returned to Pocket Puppies about a month after she came home with me, and the owner remembered both our names.
This is a great place for what it is, but you'll probably save a lot of green if you do the footwork yourself and buy directly from a breeder.
I am unfortunate enough to live in apartment about a block from this store, and I did not have the will power to resist walking in. I left with a wonderful puppy who I love and adore. I have mixed feelings about my experience at this store. While I would not trade my baby for any other dog in the world, I know that I cannot, in good conscience, recommend purchasing a dog from Pocket Puppies to anyone else. Not only are their prices ABSOLUTELY ridiculous...(yes I know I am at equal fault for spending that amount) but they really do seem to care more about the smallness of the dog than its health. Yes, they have an in house vet, but when I got my puppy I was told that the vet was on maternity leave and not seeing new customers. This is all well and good, but you have to take your puppy to a vet within two days of adopting them. So naturally I found my own vet.
The store had told me that my puppy had tested positive for worms and subsequently armed me with the medication. I gave it to her as directed but after the course of medicine, my vet still found worms. The medicine cost me 100 dollars. But that wasn't the worst part.
Little did I know that my puppy had demodectic mange. And it wasn't the localized version, which means she inherited it from her mother. Dogs with generalized demodex are supposed to be fixed so they can't pass it on to their kids. Any responsible breeder should have known this. I went back and read my contract, which read that if your dog gets demodex within the first year, their vet will treat the dog. (But at this point I had already taken her to my vet and gotten treatment since they told me their vet wasn't seeing new customers). This part of the contract really disturbed me. It seemed like they knew that some of their puppies would have demodex, so much so that they felt they had to put this into the contract...and a friend of mine who bought a mini-pin from them had her puppy diagnosed with it as well.
*I have uploaded a picture of my puppy in the early stages of the demodex, you can see the bald patches she was starting to get*
Demodex is horrible, my puppy started losing her hair within the first two weeks I had her home, and treatment is a BITCH. You either have to take them in every two weeks for mitaban dips (which are expensive, and it's not recommended for puppies or toy dogs because its so strong) or the option I had to go with...expensive medicine that she has to be on for at least two months. Not to mention the cost of office visits and skin scrapings. It was heartbreaking to see how itchy and miserable she was and to watch the physical effect of the hair loss. If generalized demodex gets bad, secondary infections and death can occur.
But apparently, it's more important that they found a breeder who bred my breed of puppy smaller than a responsible breeder who cared about the health of the little ones. While I do not believe that Pocket Puppies gets their dogs from puppy mills, their choice of breeders still leaves much to be desired. They also state that they don't sell puppies to families with children younger than 15, which I think is a good rule with these delicate animals, and yet the other day I went in to browse accessories for her and I saw a girl who couldn't be more than 10 or 11 carrying her new puppy (and her parents purchasing the most expensive items for it). I guess for the right price, they will make exceptions to the rules they have in place for the welfare of the puppy.
So, yes I love my puppy. I would have been willing to spend as much as needed on vet bills to make her healthy again. But, I would not want anyone else or their puppies to go through the same ordeal. Adopt a rescue dog or find a reputable breeder where you can visit the home and see what kind of environment they were raised in. Even if you feel sorry for the puppies in the store, take comfort in the fact that some rich schmuck will probably be spending thousands of dollars on them for their wife/girlfriend/daughter and be able to pay for any ensuing vet bills. But if you're a weak college student with a credit card, like me, stay FAR, FAR away from this place.
Oh and michael g...in regards to your comment, "We live in a world where color and race matter to those inadequate small minded people. Those are ones writing bad reviews."
I am Asian-American, and I can guarantee that my ethnicity had absolutely NOTHING to do with my review of this store. Your statement is beyond ridiculous.
This place is a joke! We took our 11 week old Welsh Terrier for his first grooming on the recommendation of our trainer. We dropped him off and my wife really wanted to watch his first "haircut" which they don't allow and I accept that so we came back in an hour to pick him up. The words that came out of my mouth were, did they cut his hair at all? The groomer offered to cut more but I was so annoyed at the terrible customer service that we decided to forget it and go home. When we got home and took him out of his crate there were blood spots. They cut his nail too short and it was bleeding. I called the store and they said, non-chalantly by the way, that this happens a lot. HELLO???
Look, maybe I'm a new dog owner and am not sure what to expect, I grew up with dachshunds who didn't need grooming but this is ridiculous. Save your money and look elsewhere, this place SUCKS!!
Let me preface this review by saying I LOVE puppies. I love them so much, I'd consider having them in place of children.
I visited this store while waiting for a girlfriend for dinner. Yes, the puppies are cute. However, I hate it when puppies are treated like fashion accessories and not living animals. The poor things are locked up in fancy cabinets with glass doors that are tiny.
I've walked by many times when they are closed as my family business is just a few doors down. It's really heartbreaking to think these adorable puppies are in those little cages. I would never buy a dog from here. Adopt a puppy... there are so many that need homes.
Say YES to puppies.
Say NO to Pocket Puppies.
:P
[edit: previous version of this review was removed because of alleged policy violation. For this reason I find it necessary to state that this review is based on an actual visit to Pocket Puppies and not hearsay or second-hand experience.]
Do you know why tiny dogs shake all the time? Because they're abominations!
All dogs are bred down from wolves - imagine the amount of 'creative' breeding needed to make one tiny like that. All so some vapid asshat can have something 'cute'. Here's a tip: get a cat. They're naturally small.
Also - there are almost THREE MILLION dogs killed (sorry, 'put to sleep') in shelters every year. Adopt one. Save a life.
I'm scared.
When I walked into Pocket Puppies I felt the essence of Cruella DeVille; making a profit at the expense of of these tiny (genetically engineered to fit conveniently in your Luis and quiver intensely) animals.
The customers walk in uninformed and I can almost promise that they leave the same way, but with a dog in their bag.
This place made me uncomfortable. Not in the way all 'Puppy Stores' make me uncomfortable. This was something different. I occasionally work nearby, and stopped in here one afternoon to see what the fuss was about.
My worry wasn't so much as this place having to do with puppy mills as it was the stores clientele itself. It seems that this place is where woman who do not know how to care for dogs, come to get dogs to care for. I saw just about every example of bad owner behavior I could name being displayed here. (laughing as your dog barks and nips, ect) The Staff did not correct or advise this woman, who was getting a SECOND dog. The barking, nipping one being her first venture into pet ownership...You all most work on commission, seriously...why not advise her on dog training? Instead just sell her more dogs? Really?
I don't want to come off as being overly judgemental, but all of my dogs have been dog fighting rescues (not for the faint of heart). The dogs I had as a kid were from the pound. That said, I know dogs are hard work. I just worry that the idea of aiming a pet store at 'Upper Class Woman Who Have Never Owned Pets, And Seem More Interested In An Animals Accessory Value Than Companion Value' seems like a really misguided attempt at uniting animals and owners.....
Maybe they were on an off day? I'll never know, that was enough for me. I COULD have been impressed with this place..as crazy as that sounds...but sadly it was just what I expected...back now to fetch with my big, funny looking, but well trained animal family members...
Sigh.... puppies are so cute.
But puppies should be running around free (movement-wise and monetary wise!)
Please people - don't spend money at a puppy mill - get a good friendly dog from the neighborhood pound. Do go see these wonderful animals for your cute quota for the day.... but please don't support a painfully yuppie establishment like this. :'( :'(
We got our pup from the Anti Cruelty Society and it really is amazing to save a dog so please go to a shelter first!
That being said I was more impressed with Pocket Puppies that any other pet store I've been in. It's much cleaner that the others and actually smells good, which I think is because they do a really good job of picking up after the puppies!
I spoke to the owner (Lane) for a while and it was nice to see that he's a huge dog lover himself. We talked about the negative yelp reviews and he said he completely agrees with them...go to a shelter first when purchasing a pup! However, he opened this store for those people who just must have a specific brand (ex: yorkie) and you're not going to find those dogs in the shelters.
I'm not exactly sure why a person must have a yorkie (although the one I held here was pretty darn cute), but if you must then I guess Pocket Puppies is much better than any other pet store.
I have never in my life been more appalled by the behavior of professionals in the pet industry than I am with that of the staff at Pocket Puppies.
I had been taking my Maltese to Pocket Puppies for grooming for over a year. On this particular day I was racing across town and got stuck in traffic, the place was closing in 10 minutes and I was about 15 minutes away. I called to let the staff know I was running late but was on my way and was told "no problem". I arrived about 13 minutes later, and to my shock and horror the lights were out, door locked, and staff gone... WHERE WAS MY DOG? I had JUST spoken to them!
I tried repeatedly to call hoping that the line would forward to a live person, but to no avail. I waited for hours hoping someone would remember her and come back but they did not. I spoke with a police officer who tried to help me find a way to reach an emergency contact. The store is NOT registered with the police or fire department in case of emergency (which is illegal), and the officer told me that he had been to the store earlier in the week because the owner's dog bit a child.. not the first time, he said.
Finally, I saw a sticker from the alarm company and called them to explain the situation. They were able to put me in contact with the owner who seemed oblivious to my hysterics and said he would come over to let me in. Before he showed up, the night person came to feed and water the puppies. I explained the situation to her, she was shocked, and she let me in to help me find my dog. She was unaware that my dog was there, and when we went down to the basement, we found her alone in the dark in a cold metal cage with no food or water. Had I not been there, that is exactly where she would have stayed until 11am the next morning... 17 hours after closing time.
These people care about one thing only, and that is money.... it is truly a sham that they proclaim to care for their animals or the others for whom they provide services.
4 stars from me solely based upon CLOTHING ITEMS and CUSTOMER SERVICE in the store. Having rescued my two dogs (im not going to start preaching) they still need to look chic. my little girl, telly, is a 9 pound shih tzu so she fits quite nicely in the apparel at pocket puppies. when i walked in with telly, i was instantly greeted and not made to feel "bad" that i didnt purchase my dog from them. the sales girl helped me find some cute winter apparel for telly (reasonably priced too...hoodie sweatshirt for 29 and a fleece coat for 40) and then she even gave me a discount! the pups there are super cute, but i had no desire to venture into the back of the store where they keep them on "display." so yes, 4 stars from me for cute clothing and great customer service. the 1 HUGE drawback is that it's not a rescue ;)
I was so excited when this place first opened!
Seemed like a cute fun store (I even own a miniature dachshund)...but walking past that place after it is closed and seeing all of those "teacups" locked away in that china-cabinet-thing in the back freaks me out and reminds me why to get dogs from rescues and shelters (and save yourself a pretty penny!!)
They do not carry any other products for normal dog owners either...everything is a high-end puppy pad, a high-end dog collar...walk to extra blocks north to Pets Mart and make sure to use breed-specific rescues if you are looking to buy one of these guys (I used the dachshund rescue network).
go adopt a dog not buy one for over a thousand dollars!!! rude staff horrible!!!
by the way the 5 star reviews with only 1 review helllo pocket puppies staff!!!! a total fake review!!!
I purchased my puppy there about 3 months ago. The staff was really knowledgeable. It was my first time with a tiny puppy like that and I also have a 100 pound mix that I rescued from the pound at home. They really helped me with all the things I needed to know about my little puppy. They even called a few times to see if I had any followup questions or needed any help. She is doing really good, very healthy and full of so much energy that its hard to keep up with her. I am so happy that I got her, she brings so much love and energy to my family. Thanks pocket puppies!!
I have never bought anything from this store. I am simply giving it four stars out of a happiness factor. Anytime I go in here and see or watch other people playing with the puppies it brightens my mood. I mean, they are just so cute.
I cannot say anything bad about getting a small dog being that I already have one, but what I can say is that going to a breeder is definitely the better choice. You can get the same genetic guarantees and you know exactly where your pup comes from. Of course, NEVER get a puppy shipped. It causes them a lot of stress. If you truly want a good puppy, go to the breeder. You can check out their facilities and see the puppies before you commit to one.
The one thing I will say about Pocket Puppies is that they do care about the pups a lot--while they are in the possession of the store. I happened to be in the store while a customer was having a problem with their pup and the owner was being completely rude about the situation.
Not only that, but when I was there, one of the owners' dogs bit a child and the other chased a customer out of the store! How can he possibly tell a customer how to train their new pups when his are not trained at all?
Plus, I was a little upset at the fact that there were multiple "cubicles" with at least 2 or 3 puppies in them. That is simply ridiculous!
They do have a lot of cute things to buy, but I have seen them elsewhere and they weren't as marked up. The playpen is double retail price! Great idea for training, but horribly overpriced!
Also, I know quite a few people who have bought their puppies there and they weigh a lot more than the owner quoted! So know that if you're going to buy a dog from them, that the weight most likely will not be what he says it will. So even if you're paying for a teacup, BEWARE!
The problem is that the concept is great and the location is perfect for people with money. GO TO A BREEDER if you want a small pup. Better yet, go rescue!
The most precious place ever. They love the puppies so much here. Although the cages are small, the puppies are never in them for more than a week, these dogs fly off the shelf! I love going in there and holding the puppies, I for sure will be buying one soon and this is a great place to check out what is available. High prices though...
The CUTEST stuff in here! And the puppies for sale are all ADORABLE and sooo tiny. The prices are pretty steep but I go in there just to play sometimes haha.
I dont know much about dogs, but when my husband and me went to pocket puppies we almost walked out of there with a new puppy. The puppies were happy and obviously well loved by the owner and his staff. I played with this pretty little Maltese baby, who just stole my heart. We really wanted to get her but, the price was too prohibitive. Left very sadly. The dogs were well fed, and taken care of. I know it is better to adopt a homeless dog, but these small things were too cute.
even if you've never dreamed yourself a tiny yorkie mommy, you will walk out of this place demising a plan to rebalance your worklife, lovelife, playtime with one of these tiny little masterpieces. if they don't steal your heart then you don't have one. they just opened and plan to carry only teacup breeds to tempt, with the power of the devil, any trixie passing by. be careful. only go inside if you're strong. take back-up and let your loved ones know where you're going.
I have been in this store a few times just to look. I have two boston terriers (one rescued and one from a store somewhat like this one) who I spoil rotten. What appalled me is that they sell boston terriers- Boston terriers should not be "pocket" sized. Both of my dogs weigh 18 lbs and while the breed standard does say they can be less that 15 I don't really consider that "Pocket sized" Certainly not small enough to fit in the tiny clothes they sell. While I would be a hypocrite to say you shouldnt buy a dog from a pet store- you should at least be buying a dog that isnt any where near breed standard. Either these boston are going to grow up to be larger than their owns thought (and probably end up in a rescue or shelter) or they are completely outside the relm of what they should be. Cute yes, but a wise idea? no. If you really want a small dog check out a breed rescue like the midwest boston terrier rescue- loads of cute dogs who need homes!
The shop is very clean and the puppies look taken care of. They have a nice section for customers to play with the dogs. The staff sounds knowledgeable, but I found a few of their comments misleading. The reason I gave them only 2 stars is because their price is a total RIP OFF. They wanted $2150 for a male Yorkie. That's RIDICULOUS. They also jacked up the prices of pet supplies and food they sell. For example, they sell these plastic potty mats for $50.00 a piece. I bought my dog bigger ones for $30.00 online. They claim their puppies come from individual breeders, but they get them in batches/shipments. My advice is to buy from a reputable breeder for much less. For everyone that's happy with their pocket puppy, just know that you paid 2X the amount.
