I lurv this place.

I get a half salad with chicken or tri-tip steak and beef up the whole thing with kidney beans, garbanzo beans, broccoli, red onion, walnuts, and tomato. Sometimes I add egg. I always request straight balsamic vinegar tossed with the salad and it is GOOOOOOOOood!

I have ordered the full meal with meat and potatoes and bread before, and it is hearty and filling if you're craving that homestyle food. But mostly, I come here to get my healthy dining on after a mani/pedi at Neva's. And then, I feel so FAB.

What a great place to just drop in and grab a bit of great food.  I can't believe that I actually didn't know about this place until just recent

This is a like a gourmet version of Quizno's without the gimmick's, just great food and easy laid back atmostphere.

The sandwiches are amazing.  I had the lunar dip special, and it rocked!  The cibatta bread was light (not chewey in other places), nicely toasted, and the meat was very flavorful and tender.  I totally ran out of au jus dipping sauce and could have just eaten that with bread alone.  I also the crab and corn chowder.  Very rustic dish, and very tasty.  My friends also had the mashed potatoes and roasted butternut squash - all were fantastic.

I definitely have to go back and try the other sandwiches and salads.

It's a little confusing on how to order.  BUT grab a small menu card, and ask questions.  Great value and great food to follow!

Do you LOVE freshly made salads with your favorite toppings? How about hot, fresh, curly fries, sprinkled generously with fresh garlic? Yes, yes, yes, this is the place for you, and ME!

I love Pluto's. I have been a fan of Pluto's since I was a young child. I much prefer their salads in lieu of the sandwiches, but their fresh meat is great on bread or over the top of a salad.

My personal fave: farmer's green with delicious toppings, and steak on top.

Done and done.

Times have changed a bit.

I need to be more thrifty when dining, as I'm trying my best to save my funds for something BIG. Wish me luck, cuz I'm not very good at this saving business!

And so this is where Pluto lends a helping hand to my new goal.

Pluto's makes it super easy to eat healthy, tasty lunches while not feeling the least bit guilty about it. I can throw down a little under 6 bucks a day for a killer salad or sandwich. They know how to mix things up a bit by featuring different sandwich options, so that my taste buds don't become numb to my frequent visits. With such cheap prices, it almost makes more sense to just get lunches there rather than make em' at home! Or maybe that's just me trying to justify eating out for lunch everyday... either way, Pluto's is still #1 in my book!

I love their salads because you have a gazillion toppings to choose from and you can add freshly grilled tri-tip for a relatively inexpensive price.

It's not the biggest place, but they do have a few tables out front. The ordering part is kind of confusing because the line begins at the farthest point in the back and there are kind of 2 different lines depending on what you're ordering. The salads are the furthest back and once you order it, you wonder "do I have to wait behind other line now or can I cut them go directly to the register." It's not clear and you'll probably offend someone.

The water and glasses are behind the register and when I was here, I grabbed a glass and went to reach for the pitcher when not one but TWO girls cut in front of me to grab glasses and pitchers. Another person cut in front of me in line to pay. I don't wanna blame it on the people who normally live in this part of town, but.... well, I'll keep my mouth shut.

Anyway, tasty salads as long as you don't mind the weird set up and inconsiderate customers.

I met a friend here for a light dinner.  Turns out you can have any kind of dinner you want!  From customized salads to meat and potatoes, Pluto's makes it easy to eat what you want instead of what others have decided to feed you.

There were so many toppings for the salad, not to mention creating the base salad in the first place, that I was really impressed.  I recommend the spinach salad with tri-tip, strawberries, bleu cheese, corn, chickpeas, edamame, kidney beans and almonds!  Yum.

The best part was that although there was an open kitchen, I did not walk out smelling like the grill, which is often the case in these kinds of eateries.  There were plenty of tables and the noise level was just fine.  My friend and I enjoyed our salads and left happy and satisfied.  Last, but not least, it's under $6 for a side salad + piece of bread, which was plenty to eat!  Will definitely return to Plutos.

Fresh and cheap. Instructions for ordering are clearly stated on the walls. Read them. Took me a few tries to get the hang of it. When ordering a salad, don't get nervous. Try picking up the paper before you're up to bat so you have a general idea of their selection. You get 6 (or 7??) topping choices. Pick the kind of greens and dressing. Unless you eat amazingly large meals, a side salad is hefty enough. I've learned from my mistakes. Don't get flustered if you can't decide between edamame and corn... forget about the long ass line waiting behind you.. it's your salad and no one's gonna ef it up. Add some meat if you'd like. Afterwards, carry along past the sandwich orderers and proceed to pay at the register. Order some sides.. garlic fries are pretty great or some spuds. whatevs. They've got booze too. Then go sit. Eat.

I just moved to the Marina and since the mover recommended this place, soon after the move,  my friends and I went to this place for dinner.
We had soup and shared four or five side dishes including curly fries.  Everything was great, fresh and tasty! I also thought the price was pretty cheap for the food.  I would definitely come back to this place!!

Super yum... Super fast... Super cheap... Super service in the Marina? How can anyone complain?!?

I can always expect a super experience at Pluto's! Even when it gets busy (which is pretty much, always), the restaurant stays clean and the employees friendly. The smiley salad makers assemble my spontaneous (and sometimes strange) salad concoctions with a surprisingly smooth cadence. Guess practice makes perfect.  And if you ever find yourself not in a salad mood, try their soups. They're so good - especially the turkey vegetable topped with fresh carved turkey! Yummm.

Thanks Pluto's! You might not be a planet anymore, but you're the brightest star in the Marina in my book! (And wayyyy better than the other toss-and-go salad places in the area!)

I'm basically carnivorous and the idea of a salad as a meal seemed a bit...unsatisfying...until I found Pluto's. Well, granted, they do offer grilled flank STEAK in the salad which satiates the meat-lover in me. But seriously, I think I would love the salads here even if there was no meat in them.

The prices are very reasonable. If I'm eating by myself, I usually get the side salad and I'm pretty stuffed by the end. Seriously, if you tried to make this kind of salad on your own, it'd probably end up costing you the same amount of money considering the variety of options they offer. I LOVE the roasted fennel, but they don't always have it. Their garlic fries are also phenomenal. I don't know how garlic fries and a salad become a good combo, but seriously...it is!

My only sad complaint is that they got rid of the cilantro-lime dressing (WHY??). I loved that stuff. But alas, I will take what I can get from Pluto's!

My partner and I grab salads at this place probably twice a week.  He's been grabbing salads here for years, but I am a recent convert.

Whether you are grabbing lunch here or dinner, Pluto's is always quick, fresh, and friendly.

Today I had a medium-rare tri-tip salad, with 7 toppings, for $7!!  Easily the cheapest salad of its kind in the city and the quality is fab.

Hands down, my favourite salad in the city!

Yummers!!!

I've always noticed this place when going to the gym on Tuesdays for a spin class, but never thought to stop in. Well, today after class I didn't want to cook when I got home (and by cook I mean make mac & cheese), and since I was parked next to this place I figured "Sure, why not give it a try."

I'm so glad I did!!! It's a little confusing when you first walk in as far as how order, but once I figured it out everything from there on out was smooth sailing (I guess if you're ordering a salad there's a different line than for ordering sandwiches...a girl who I could tell was a regular here showed me the ropes). I decided to go with a sandwich (although after eying the fresh salad ingredients I almost changed my mind). Everything sounded great, but I decided to go with one of there "celestial (aka specialty)" sandwiches. I honestly can't remember what it was called but it had grilled chicken, grilled veggies, spinach, jack cheese, and a touch of spice on grilled ciabatta. All of the sandwiches & salads are made to order right in front of you with fresh ingredients. The sandwiches aren't huge, but there quality and definitely enough to fill you up. The prices is right as well...$5.90 for a fresh sandwich (and I think the regular turkey & chicken are actually cheaper)!!!

I was eying the sides as I was paying and everything looked good (especially the mashed potatoes & yams), but I decided to go with a chocolate chip cookie, which was huge & yummy & loaded with chocolate chips. Actually, all of the baked good looked good!!!

The inside was small, and I could see where it could get crowded, but since I always get take out, I didn't care. Also, the staff here is EXTREMELY friendly, especially the guy who was on the cash register.

I will definitely be making this a regular stop after the gym. Although, maybe next time I'll go with a salad. That's probably a little more appropriate after a workout...

Yikes!  What happened?!  I haven't been to a Pluto's in awhile but had a random craving.  So last Friday night I went in for my usual tri-tip salad. I was surprised that there was no line or busy crowd.  And still, I was served by an annoyed salad mixer who made me feel as if I was the greatest burden of her life.  Meat was bland and over-cooked.  Not medium-rare at all.  Don't even know why they bothered to ask!  Toppings were a little skimpy and they didn't have the jicama or strawberies that I love.  Tri-tip sandwich was dry and bland as well.  All my fond memories out the door.

I always love getting a salad here. The small salad is really large and there are tons of fresh toppings to choose from. They have beans, fruits, nuts, cheeses, fresh veggies and meats. Plus, a large piece of foccacia. They also have a decent assortment of comfort foods: mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, etc. It's quick and easy, just my style.

After my critical review, the manager invited me back for a free meal.

I was quite impressed; he wanted to know specifically what I thought was wrong, and offered a possible explanation while managing to both not be defensive, yet still stand by the quality of his food. He also didn't want me to get any special treatment, and trusted his regular chefs to make me a good meal; which they did. The tri-tip sandwich was quite good, as were the garlic fries, although I still prefer my garlic fries straight, rather than curly. Desserts are exceptional for a place like this.

With good management like this, it's pretty easy to see why they can stay in business with low prices like they do.

Take the idea of Mixt Greens, add a live grill for delicious tri tip, and then charge LESS and you have Pluto's. A delicious restaurant of fresh ingredients, lots of yummy veggies, and both great flavors and textures.

Here's how you do it: order a side or full salad (with or without meat) or a sandwich. Choose dressing. Choose SEVEN (count em, seven) fresh fixings. Pay. Consume.

I went in and got a full salad with meat (tri tip). I got the gorgonzola vinaigrette dressing then added two orders of mushrooms, blue cheese, corn, garbanzo beans, red onions and broccoli. It was sinfully good. The mushrooms were lightly cooked (we thought sauteed), thick and juicy. Blue cheese makes a salad rich and the corn, beans, onions and broccoli make it a real salad.

All for like $7.

Minuses: It's in the Marina, meaning you're surrounded by pretentious post-workout Marina girls and DB's. But that's a small price to pay for salad bliss.

great spot when not overly hungry and on the health conscious bug.  Most entrees are between 6-10 dollars the most.. with heavings of condiments to match your huge salad plate.. the tri tip is very well marinated and tasty which you can add to your salad or have it on a lunar dip sandwich which i prefer much better.  a little tough for parking being in the marina area but bearable..ive never had a bad meal yet...i see a pattern here.. 3/5 judochoppies!

Is the service first class? sometimes,

Are the lines longer than a trip to mars? sometimes.

Is a chain restaurant amidst a galaxy of unique dining destinations the right choice? sometimes.

Are the salads OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious? sometimes.

But Pluto's ALWAYS brings fresh, healthy food into my universe.

And sometimes a girl just can't ask for more.

Go to place for me for an easy meal!!
Cheap, solid, fresh, and mostly healthy.

Sandwiches are great.  Especially with the spicy BBQ sauce.

Salads are perfect-Make your own
-You choose lettuce type, Spring Mix, Spinach, or something else
-Choose 7 toppings- Feta, corn, soy beans, tomatoes, etc
-Meat-depending if you want some-Steak, Chicken, etc.-Extra cost though

The curly fries are fatty fantastic!!  You can even try it garlic style...nom nom nom!!

Not a big fan of the sides- Mash potatoes, stuffing, veggies, etc....

My first experience with Plutos was actually in their Palo Alto location on University Ave (which is funny because I actually live on Scott Street in the Marina).  I had a small spinach salad which was definitely not small.

I have since become a Blue Barn aficionado when it comes to the "make your own salad" genre, but Plutos still has really outstanding sandwiches.  Check the sandwich of the week.  They tend to be very creative.  Last time I stopped by here, the special was grilled chicken with sun dried tomato mayo, argula, goat cheese, and cherry tomatoes.  Very tasty!

Some people adore this place.  I've always found them to be friendly and efficient (particularly around meal times and around 9:00 pm on week nights when the floodgates open and the locals come home late from the office).  I like their food, it's close to my apartment, and it's generally a good "healthy" choice.  Plenty of tables here to linger with friends.

Boy do I love this place. I went here for the first time about three years ago and remembered loving it. On a return trip to San Fran recently I drove by it and suddenly images of their grilled fennel came lovingly in my mind.

Their make-your-own salad is probably the best deal around. I used to live in NYC--the city full with design your own everything delis--and none match to the quality and PRICE of this place. You get 7 fixins plus $1 more for meat/protein. You get out of there with a HUGE salad for less than $8 including tax unreal. If I lived in SF I would be eating here at least 3 times a week. Note, you must try their grilled fennel in your salad...amazing.

I already mentioned the prices, so so reasonable. They also have some delicious and healthy (some) sides that were so good. Their soup was also good, and overall all of the food is very fresh.

The food, service and price exceeds five stars if you compare it to other places similar to Pluto's. Go!

Pluto's is a chain that really is just A-OK.  It's pretty inexpensive, but I think the quality of the ingredients suffer a little because of that.  It's hit or miss.

I think if you're looking for a quick and easy dinner, then Pluto's is your place.  They offer sandwiches, salads, and a few different sides like mashed potatoes or grilled veggies.  Pretty standard fare.  But you could probably make a comparable meal at home, for even cheaper.

This may have been the best salad I ever had. Partially because I played a key role in its creation, partially because the ingredients are super healthy and fresh. With so many toppings to choose from (you get 7), and either steak, chicken, or portabello mushroom (grilled right before your eyes!), there's something for everyone. Price is super reasonable too -- around $7.

While the establishment is super fast, and you can get in and out of there in about 5 minutes, I felt pressured to pick my 7 ingredients, hence the 4 stars.

Manna for me would be a main mixed green salad with medium steak, 7 toppings, balsamic dressing, and a tall glass of raspberry ice tea.  I can eat it anywhere, in the restaurant, at a park, in the car.  It's just that good.

Lines get long esp. during lunch & dinner...so go before/afterwards.

Although no longer classified as a planet (thanks IAU), Pluto's,  your dishes still send me out of this world.

Although when you first walk in it's a madhouse with no seemingly rhyme or reason, once you know what you're doing, it's all good.  There're two lines: one for sandwiches and one for salads.  It's a small ordering space so you have to try to figure out what line you're in while also psychically deciding what line the people in front of you are in.

The salads are hearty and delicious and they give you total freedom to decide what you want.  You pick your lettuce, then your meat, then up to 7 ingredients and dressing.  Then you try to get into the "I'm going to pay" line and then sit down and chow down.

So despite the confusing set-up, the salads are bomb.

I love Pluto's. The service is quick, attentive & the food is delicious, fresh & cheap!! Plus the location is great.   It can be a little confusing when you first start eating here because of the set up, but the people there are always extremely friendly & help you.

I absolutely adore their salads..you have a choice of 3 types of veggies:

Farmer's greens, romaine or baby spinach, then you get to pick 7 toppings out of:
Broccoli
Cucumbers
Red Onions
Beets
Jicama
Peas
Carrots
Mixed Seeds
Grilled Fennel
Sweet Walnuts
Plum Tomatoes
Green Beans
Navel Oranges
Sweet Corn
Garbanzo Beans
Seasonal Toppings
Crunchy Croutons
Parmesan Cheese
California Raisins
Granny Smith Apples
Sautéed Mushrooms
Caramelized Onions
Crumbled Blue Cheese
Roasted Red Bell Peppers

Really?! that's a TON of choices! plus u can add meat or vegetarian options:

Grilled Herbed Chicken Breast
Herb Roasted Sonoma Turkey
Grilled Marinated Tri-Tip
Aidells Poultry Sausage
Crispy Chicken Asteroids
Grilled Portobello Mushroom
Grilled Eggplant

Then you pick your dressing:

Balsamic Vinaigrette
Gorgonzola Vinaigrette
Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette
Caesar Dressing
Low Fat Yogurt Based Honey Mustard

All for between 6-8 bux depending on what you choose to put in it.  That's an awesome deal & it's one of the BEST salads i've ever had. I am truly becoming a Pluto's addict!!

My friend always get the sandwiches when we're there, and she says they are one of the best she's ever had...

They also have pastries, cookies to choose for for dessert...what are you waiting for?? GO GO GO!

The food tastes homemade.  The selection is beyond one's expectations and the atmosphere is like a welcome all day coffee shop.  The prices are fantastic for the quality of food you get.  With Pluto's, you don't need to go to any other restaurant for daily meals.

right-on-target price for food your mom would be proud you're eating.  I usually take the side salad with steak.  Ingredients are fresh and healthy, which makes it great for mindlessly stuffing your face, guilt-free.

I loved this place and used to go all the time for salad. Things have been sliding down hill in the past year or so. They no longer change bowls or tongs in between customers (and get annoyed if you ask them to use a clean bowl) and so I sometimes get clumps of blue cheese (so gross) in my salad. Also, my boyfriend got a nasty case of food poisoning the other day...poor guy was so sick! I have been hearing more and more about other people getting food poisoning here, so I am taking a break until they get their act back together.

I loved Pluto's! The food was really really good, very fresh and priced well! I didn't have a sandwich so I don't know about the meat but my salad was really good and I huge even though I got the smaller one.

Ordering was a bit confusing though so that's why I took away one star but it could be that I am dense when it comes to these things.

I only ever get the Lunar Dip because it's amazing, but I'll be damned if ordering anything in this place is the most stressful part of my day when and if I decide to go there.  If you don't want to get a salad, you have to ask everyone else in front of you if they're ordering a salad, and then when you're waiting at the sandwich station, they get mad at you bc they think you're cutting and it's all just a big mess.  You have about 10 square feet to do this all in, by the way.  Good luck.  The Lunar Dip is worth it, though.
