rooms here are small but comfy.  the beds are plush, and i loved the bath robes.  the free breakfast is really good and plentiful.  this hotel is much smaller than i thought, but it was really quaint and cozy.

drinks in the bar are tasty as well.

I just returned from a wedding at Plumpjacks and am not sure I would return...

The good:
-the staff was friendly and attentive
-the food was hit or miss (included breakfast, ahi sandwich and steak: good, salads and sides: eh)
-the wedding was beautiful (I credit my friends and their planner for that, but will list under the good)
-hotel interior is lush and sexy
-great location

The bad:
-the walls are paper thin, I could hear everything going on in the hallway and neighboring rooms while trying to sleep off my post wedding hangover
-overpriced (even with our group rate)
-small pool and hot tubs
-room interior, more eh

I left with mixed feelings, nothing really wowed me...maybe I expect more from Gavvy.

Although the location is great, Plumpjack Resort really wasn't worth the price paid.

Cons:

- The rooms had nice decor but were small.

- There was a fan propped in the window, which was kind of tacky(Air conditioning would have been sufficient).

- The bathroom only had a shower and no tub(If I had just spent a day on the slopes, I definitely would want a place I could soak in).

- The pool and jacuzzi reminded me of something you would find at a Motel 6. Both were very small.

Pros:

- The restaurant was nice. It was a beautiful day and dining in the fresh mountain air was very pleasant. I had a Bleu Cheese Burger w/ garlic fries and my girlfriend had the Ahi Sandwich. Both were very good. We had a complimentary breakfast which was fresh, even though we showed up in the last 5 minutes.

- The Bar was also nice. The Bartender made a good drink and was very attentive.

- I would definitely say that the overall service was good and if the prices were more reasonable, I might give it another star. So lower your prices Mr. Newsom!

Beautiful and spacious rooms with minimal décor so it keeps with the "in the woods" theme. The beds were comfy and the sheets smelled fresh out the dryer clean! The resort is always clean despite the fact we're allowed to wear our skis inside.

They offer a free breakfast buffet and they're not just pastries, they've got some good stuff like eggs, pancakes, sausages and bagels. There's an outdoor pool and jacuzzi although it's way too cold to be skinny dipping this time of year!

The staff is friendly but don't expect a bellhop to fetch your luggage, you have to lug that yourself. Prices range $200 -$700 a night. A must stay at least once when visiting Squaw.

This is our third night at this hotel and I still have not gotten a decent night's sleep yet.  Part of the problem is that our room is on the ground floor, not even 15 feet from the road.

It is summer and hot, so in a hotel with no air conditioning it is a necessity to sleep with the window open if you want to breathe.

The first night we woke at 1 am to groaning pipes.  When I called the front desk the person on night duty came in and played with the thermostat and the groaning stopped.  This seems odd to me.
Then not even 10 minutes later there was a high speed chase that went past our window.  At 6 am the delivery trucks started arriving and sat idoling while the driver made his deliveries.

The second night was better, but at 7 am someone was vacuuming the hallway and the delivery trucks again!

The third night, a music festival in the Village Shops across the road lasted until about 1 am.  Then a group of people at 6:30 am talking outside our window.  Then again with the delivery trucks.  At 7:15 am someone discovered a black bear and her cubs in the tree outside our window, so no sleeping again.

Some highlights:

1.  Thursday night wine night with the winemaker.
2.  Cool decor and cozy colors
3.  Clean rooms
4.  Friendly staff
5.  Great dining
6.  Very close to the ski lifts.

I give this hotel 3 stars because I think that if our room had been in a better location, it would have been a lot quieter.  The rest of our experience here was pleasant.

The staff was always helpful and friendly to talk to, especially when we had to change rooms because ours had an old mattress that was very uncomfortable. The staff was a cut above on every occasion we needed help with something.

Even with all the nice touches to dress up what I hear was an old lodge, the floors creak and the plumbing is loud. It's easy to hear which rooms around you are occupied. No elevator, no air conditioning. These are all basic things normally taken for granted.

Sorry Gav.

I love you.  I do.  I think you are a wonderful mayor to the fine city of San Francisco.  And you are very handsome.  And yes, want to touch the hiney.

But, I wasn't impressed with Plumpjack of Squaw Valley.

The ambiance is sexy, I must admit.  And I wouldn't expect anything less of you.  The snow was falling outside, the air was chilly and there was someone special(ish) with me.

But, you see, Gavin, my table, it wasn't ready.  And that, well, that was just the beginning.

Had you been there waiting for me, I probably would have been a little more excited.  But you weren't.

And yes, we did bring our own wine.  The same wine that was on your extensive wine list for over $100.00 was at Costco for under $60 (that's how we roll, though...)

Salad course was alright.  Nothing to write home about.  I had a Butter Lettuce with Flame Grapes and Blue Cheese.  And let me tell you, there weren't nearly enough Grapes and Cheese in there.  My dining partner had Shrimp three ways.  Who isn't a fan of a little 3-way action?  Come on???  Mr. Mayor, even you must be down for a little of that once in a while?  But, sir, they brought him Shrimp Gratinee.  It was a shrimp flavored slushee.  And with all due respect, it was grody.  I puked in my mouth a little.

We moved on to mains where my companion fared much better than I, with steaks done up a duex.  It was well prepared, and very nicely presented.  Sadly, my fish was overcooked, and had almond froth on the plate, which I don't see as serving much of a purpose besides looking like sea foam.

At dessert we went for the 3-way again.  Honestly, I can't stay away!  Call me crazy, Mr. Mayor -- but I love em!  Peanut Butter and Chocolate done three times.  Orgasm on a plate.  However the best one was a PB and Chocolate Milkshake served in a teensy weensy glass with a teensy weensy straw.  And we fought over it.  I almost punched my date in the arm when I heard the gurgling sound of the last delicious remnants being drained from that little glass.

So not only was the food eh, but by the end of the meal you caused a rift between by date and I over a PB and Chocolate Milkshake.  Yeah, I know.  We don't like each other that much anyway...

If you would like to take me back for a second opinion, please PM me and I will happily accept.  3-Way can be on, or with me.

Thanks!  Happy New Year.

Yours,

Rachel G.

Perfect location, immaculate rooms and a great restaurant and bar, what more do you need?

After a one-nighter in Tahoe City, we got snobby and wanted to stay at Squaw for some easy ski in ski out, apres ski and stumble back to your room.  Just walking in the room provided instant relaxation.  The room was very spacious accommodating all your ski and boarding equipment, plus a huge bathroom with slate tile and lovely bath amenities.  I've never had the privilege of a ski in and out room.  Now i don't think i can go back to the pack up your car and sit in the front seat trying to pry off your ski boots type of experience.

Free breakfast is included with your room rate which was served in the bar area.  Hot and cold items are served, which is a nice change of pace from the typical cold pastry and soft red apple continental breakfast.

Definitely hit up the bar for a cocktail and appetizer or better yet, splurge at the restaurant.

My friend and I came here for lunch amist the loud chaos going on in the village for the Jazz, Funk and Beer Festival. We sat outside, surrounded by nice families. I had the Cobb Salad which was delicious, and I made my friend get the Balboa Burger, becasue that is one of my fav's, especially on a baguette!

It was a nice experience, maybe this winter we will come for dinner or stay the weekend!

While I have to say I did not have a bad time here, nor any truly unpleasant experiences, I just feel like you just don't get what you pay for.  My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here, including New Years Eve.  This should about sum it up:

Nearly $400 a night for a room without a tub (shower only).

Strange decor that looks like a ski lodge on 'shrooms.

Not particularly helpful staff, as I struggled through the door with two suitcases and a snowboard, with no offer of help.  "Sorry, I thought the guy in front of you would hold the door for you" apologized the guy at the front desk.

They keep your snowboard somewhere behind the desk for you, which seems great.  Until you wake up at 8:00, anxious to hit the slopes, and get stuck behind some rich c**t with an overpaid husband while she bitches and complains for 15 minutes, preventing the nice and apologetic desk guy from getting my board for me.

The famous Plumpjack restaurant was good, solid fine dining.  Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was fantastic.

Ordering from their bar menu (on New Years Eve) and sitting in the bar was a different story.  Upon being seated, we already had 2 glasses of champagne from the bar, but ordered a bottle (along with our food), which was brought out and put on ice.  After quite a wait with empty glasses, we finally opened our own bottle, later receiving an insincere apology from our "waitress."  She really didn't do anything but take our order and drop the check before we were half done with our bottle.  About 10 minutes later she grabs the check from our table, though we had made no effort to actually pay it yet, given that we still had at least 2 glasses of champagne left to drink.  She was then forced to sheepishly return the unpaid check to us, offering to "pick it up whenever your ready."  Thanks sweetheart...

The complimentary breakfast buffet was decent at best, and set up poorly.  The food took us so much of the table that you could set your plate down and the coffee was in the MIDDLE OF THE BUFFET LINE(!!!) so you got to try and mix and stir your coffee, while holding your plate, before proceeding to additional food items, now with boiling hot coffee firmly in hand and half-full plate of food in the other.  Finally I just started making multiple trips to and from my table before starting that most important of meals.

On the plus side, the location is fantastic and the 2 hot tubs go largely unused and are nice and private.  The bed was large, luxurious, and does not squeak when it's getting a work out.  However, if you are TRYING to get back at your neighbors with the screaming, obnoxious hell spawn, then a little loud moaning and banging on the wall at 4 AM should provide a nice and uncomfortable environment for Mom, Dad, and their little bundles of shit, err, joy.

Overall, it was still an enjoyable weekend at a nice hotel with a good restaurant.  However, I wouldn't go back.  For the price, you can do a whole lot better.

My favorite place to stay in Squaw Valley, if not all of Tahoe.  Through extensive renovation, design sense, and strong management they've turned formerly run down budget lodge into a tom-notchb full service boutique hotel.

It's not as grand or expensive looking as the bigger hotels, and it's not a five star urban hotel in terms of all the services, but it's a lot more refined and attentive than your other options here.

If you like boutique hotels you know the routine -- wine hour (sometimes), concierge, convenience and luxury and hip style over fanciness.  Only here, the style is not ultra-modern or retro, but ski indulgence.  This would be one of the best hotels in, say, Aspen.

They've got a first-class restaurant downstairs where they serve a thoughtful breakfast buffet -- fresh fruit, homemade granola, etc.

I like this hotel.  It is a small boutique hotel.  They have hot cider to greet you when you come in.  I like the cozy fireplace area.  They have a very decent wine list at the bar and the glassware is nice.

The staff isn't terribly hotel like, but Tahoe is pretty do it yourself.  I  guess they figure, hey if you can ski, you better schlep your goods up the stairs by yourself.  Fair assumption I believe.

There is an outdoor pool and jacuzzi.  The upstairs party room is very cool.  There is a large carpeted area and a dance floor that can accommodate large groups.

Rooms are spacious and decoration is cool and lodge like but not overwhelmingly Western.  A bit of a modern flair.  There are two rooms in this place with bathtubs which can be very relaxing after a long day on the slopes.  Try to request one of these if you can.  The rooms have nice attention to detail with products like sunscreen and chapstick.

The location is the best.  Hop outside and take the gondola straight onto the slope.  Or walk around town and enjoy the village.

Totally agree about the "lodge on shrooms" description of this place, but location is super convenient (give me convenience or give me dead kennedys' please). OK, bad punk rock joke..

My friend's husband is the chef here, and honestly he takes great pride and care in the food he creates. Trust me, it will be great. Especially if you do like me and pour whiskey (Jamisons) into your hot choco before (and after) you hit the hills. Besides, the lift is right outside!

Though I had one of the desk agents LIE to me the night I made an online reservation after being told that they were "Completely sold out," we all still had an awesome time here. (The agent who needs to be called out worked the night shift on July 17th; I called, she stumbled, lied, and then I said can I just book the ones online, and she goes, OH YEA, there are two rooms left. way to lie, dude.)

Anyway, complimentary breakfast is 10 times better than what you normally think of "continental breakfast.." It was amazing, mini waffles with warm syrup, tons of gourmet pastries and fruit, bacon, minced potato hash, fresh juices and more! It was sooo casual there that guests came down into the lobby and into the Cafe in their ROBES! And to top it off, you only get two per room, and we had eleven people in two rooms (quite comfortable by the way), The waitress was so nice she charged my third friend a "child's breakfast" because she didn't eat as much as the $20 adult breakfast would warrant.

Man, and try the Grapefruit water. Also, I never ever remembered saying "Thank you!" so much at the moment of check-in. From offering to carry my bags, to parking arrangements, to later check out times, to putting our rooms together, to just being the bomb desk staff and doing a 180 degree switch from that girl who LIED to me earlier in the week.

This place would be 5 stars if that girl did not LIE to me. Gavin (founder of the Plumpjack Inn) you need to regulate on this girl. OH man, I hope she doesn't get in trouble, really, but come on, she LIED. And me calling close to 11pm is not excuse enough to be lazy and not check your actual availability.

Came here during the summer for a wedding and had a fantastic time.  I'll talk about both parts: wedding and the hotel facilities.

WEDDING

The hotel is located near the Queen of the Snows Church, which was where the ceremony I attended was.  Afterwards, the reception was held at the Plumpjack Inn.

There's an outdoor area by the pool with seating, and a place to serve drinks.  Eventually, we made our way inside the building where the reception dinner was held, which was excellent (food, service, everything!).

Afterwards everyone headed upstairs, where we found a nice dance floor with side areas with tables for those who preferred to lurk.

All in all, an excellent facility for a wedding reception!

HOTEL

The room decor is a bit odd, but nice.  At first I was puzzled by the presence of a cement floor area by the doorway (it transitions to a carpet for the bedroom), but my friend pointed out it would be perfect for taking off wet ski-ware for the winters.

Free wifi!

The breakfast (included) was delicious as well - waffles, eggs, bacon, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee...

Oh, and there were robes and slippers in the room as well!  I love that.

The hotel also has 2 separate hot tubs, which were awesome late at night (though we couldn't figure out how to get the jets going...maybe they forbid it after a certain time?)

All in all, highly recommended!

Though, I have never stayed at the Inn, we ALWAYS make a point to eat at the restaurant.  Sometimes twice.

The food is so good, I almost cried once.  It is true fresh California-French gourmet.  NOTHING is lacking.  NOTHING is done without the utmost attention to taste.  You could probably lick the leftover dishes for morsels and still be BEYOND satisfied.

Standouts always include any game and short ribs that melt in your mouth and dance down your throat.

YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS RESTAURANT.

Okay.  I'll stop gushing.  Another plus to Plumpjack is that the room is relatively small, so service is excellent, but never imposing.  Unlike other restaurants of its caliber, I've never felt as if I should bow down to its importance.  It's not self-important or aggrandizing.

If you are in Squaw, you're a moron for not going.  Okay, not a MORON, but you're losing out.

I planned a weekend getaway for me and the hubby this past weekend.  We needed a little R&R and decided to stay in this quaint inn for the location and for the restaurant.  I had noted in my reservation that it was my husband's birthday and the general manager emailed me to ask when we were checking in as he would leave a little welcome gift in the room for us.  Well, of course we got to the hotel earlier than check in because we had a tee time at Northstar and wanted to drop our bags early.  The front desk staff was so accommodating...they actually let us check in at 11 am!  When we took our bags into the room, the manager had already put a bottle of wine and two glasses with a note in the room.  What a nice touch!   The room itself was really large and well appointed with a nice little table and two comfy chairs, large night stands and an area to hang your clothes (no enclosed closet).  Our room was on the first floor, away from the lobby but overlooking the pool area.  It was a handicap room which just meant that the bathroom had no shower enclosure.  No big deal to us.  The king bed was really comfy - not too firm, not too soft, with down pillows and just the right amount of bedding for summer time.  The room had no air conditioning but did have a fan in the window.  Since it got down to 40 degrees at night, it was perfect.  That said, the only reason this inn received 3 stars is because of the really really thin walls ----  you could hear everything in the hallway, people out by the pool at 2 am and people walking the street.  There was apparently a wedding earlier on and someone was screaming outside at about 1 am.  Since we overlooked the pool, the metal gate into the pool area from the parking lot was right outside our window.  I guess the inn doesn't lock off the pool area because that gate was slamming until 2 am.  Needless to say, not the most restful sleep I have gotten.  But the room came with breakfast the next morning and it was pretty tasty.  Served in the bar and out on the patio, the breakfast buffet included eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, mini waffles, coffee, fresh squeezed OJ and other juices.  It was really a nice surprise from the traditional continental breakfasts at other hotels.  And the location of the inn was great as you could walk right outside to the Squaw Valley cable car and village.  We went over to Uncorked, the wine merchant and bar, to check out their Flowers wine tasting.  Very cool.

I spent the weekend at Plumpjack for my step sister's wedding. It was awesome. As a longtime resident / visitor of Lake Tahoe, my family always stayed away from Squaw Valley. My Dad worked for Northstar for years so it was like the enemy to go there! Well, boy have I missed out. Sqauw Valley was very pretty and a nice retreat from the rest of very busy Lake Tahoe. There is a little village that has great shops, restaurants, bars, etc. The Plumpjack Resort did such a tasteful job with the wedding, I was seriously impressed. It was graceful yet casual, fun, yet not overdone. Wonderful. The rooms were a little weird in terms of decor but overall I really thought the place was well done. Breakfast was included with the room and was fantastic. I just loved it.

This is a boutique hotel that sits right at the base of the cable car at Squaw Valley.  The location could not be better- you will hear the avalanch blasts in the am!  The hotel is under going some renovation so make sure to ask about that when you make a reservation.  The staff is amazingly helpful and will offer everything from ski valet to baby sitters.  And they have some of the best sitters in the valley so make sure to take them up on the service.  It may cost you- but the romantic walk through the village will be worth every penny.  One of the biggest bonuses of the hotel is the resturants...and your room service comes from the same kitchen!  Book early the rooms go quick-

It may have been the exceptional summer weather, but I really loved this little 15-room inn that's part of the Plumpjack group of businesses. I'm sure it's much more of a scene in the middle of the winter as it's located at the base of the mountain, but while my friends and I were there, it was very peaceful and there weren't many other guests. The staff was attentive and there's a nice little pool and jacuzzi to enjoy the sun. The restaurant that's part of the hotel was exquisite. Although I didn't mind the decor, my companions described it as Alice in Wonderland meets hippie on shrooms b/c of some of the metallic frames and sculptures.
