Plaza of the Americas
4 reviews for Plaza of the Americas
Get ready to add the Ice Gardens at Plaza of the America's into your Wednesday night agendas people! My little cousins and I were planning on watching Kung Fu Panda last night at Victory Park but because of the rain we decided to look for something else to do. I wanted to do some skating but some of the rinks I was looking at were pricey considering the big group I had. I stumbled upon a "family night" deal at the Ice Gardens and decided to give it a try.
Right when we walked in the kids got super excited. Most of the businesses/ restaurants were closed and there were hardly any people here so it felt like we had the rink to ourselves. All 7 of us got our little wristbands and skates for get this $20 total! What a steal. The first four people are charged $10 and anyone else is an additional $10 but you could also just say you have two families if you have more than 5 people. The place is a little outdated and the rink is smaller than the Galleria but we still had a blast, plus we weren't too embarrassed when we fell on our tushes because there weren't too many people around to point and laugh!
I checked out their other specials online and they have free coffee and doughnuts to adult skaters on Friday mornings, what a way to start your day! There are also other deals for college students and group rates for parties or broom ball.
For Skating the parking is free.
All you have to do is ask the people at the skating area.
I had been in town on business in Dallas for the past few weeks staying at the Sheraton Hotel. I wish my company had booked me at the Westin and the Plaza of the Americas ... because.. holy moly this place is nice (see my uploaded pictures).
There are venues to make living in a hotel bearable. There are gift shops to buy items...and quick service restaurants such as McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Corner Bakery and Smoothie King for food. There are also a few mom-n-pop restaurants. The plaza feels very clean and has the aura of a niiiiiiice shopping mall. There are tables and chairs where one can sit and converse. Also in the middle of the plaza is a small ice skating rink. I guess Plaza of the Americas upgraded since the previous review from 2 years ago.

There's a cool ice skating rink on the inside of this thing. I played broomball here once and hurt my bootay pretty badly. Ouch. It's a cool place inside a pretty cool building. Other than the rink though... it's really not that exciting... Downtown Dallas still needs a lot of work, but it's getting better!
