Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, as well as the free NY Waterway bus service, I happened upon Platinum Salon today. The reviews are true - Tre is amazing.

I walked in with overly highlighted, slightly fried hair with some wicked roots, and walked out feeling like a model.

Tre listened to what my concerns were and what I wanted to see, and then he was able to translate that into real life. Plus, I was working on a time schedule, and he was able to pull everything off perfectly anyway.

Everyone else was very nice and the salon was clean. They were able to fit me in same-day, which was awesome, as I generally am a spontaneous person when it comes to my hair.

    I'll definitely be back again!

Tre is a hair god! Hes so nice and really listened to what I wanted. The cut came out PERFECT and I feel so great. I have really long, wavy hair that's damaged on the bottom. He managed to clean up a good amount of the damaged parts while leaving it long and lush. He also gave me the best bangs I've ever gotten!

I highly recommend Tre and the salon. Everyone was so accommodating, the salon is clean and nice and it's in a great location. It is also very fairly priced - I recommend it highly!

Perfectly located in Chelsea/Flatiron, only 2 block from my home, this is my new go-to hair salon.
Ryan takes care of my very messy hair. More expensive than a barber, but at least I can schedule my appointment.
    Friendly and sexy staff.

Really professional salon. I was helped by Ryan Nyguyen who was very meticulous and knew how to take my vision and execute. My hair was lovely, voluminous and perfect for summer!

The only thing that would be questionable is the cleanliness. While waiting in the front there were hairballs, they look like they've been there awhile because every time  someone goes in an out; TUMBLE HAIR WEEDS.

I was referred to Michael at Platinum salon for the best blowout by a woman who only goes to the best, so I knew it would be a good experience.  Lovely, clean, spacious salon.  Michael greeted me and got to work washing and then blowing my hair out into shiny, sexy goddessness.

    2/5/2011 Purchased a Yelp Deal

I purchased a Yelp! deal for Platinum Salon that included a full head of highlights, a blow out and a Moroccan Oil hair treatment for $150.  A fantastic deal for a Manhattan salon and a super convenient location on W. 23rd street close to the 1 train.

I booked my appointment with Jaylene based on her fabulous Yelp review.  Jaylene is fantastic.  She is personable, professional and from Chicago, a city that I love.  We talked about my hair texture (baby fine) and we both agreed that the Moroccan Oil treatment would overwhelm my super fine hair.  She gave me a beautiful, sun-kissed head of blonde highlights that were expertly woven into my short in the back and long in the front bob.  I will definetly be returning to Jaylene  for upkeep.

Platinum is a beautiful salon with an extensive range of professional hair care products inlcuding Redken, Moroccan Oil and Aveda.  The front desk staff was welcoming and attentive, even when the phone was ringing off the hook.  I was offered countless glasses of wine and frequently checked on to make sure that I was comfortable.

I will totally return to Jaylene for maintenance.  And a big thank you to the manager Rick for leaving me a voicemail to say thank you for coming by with my business.  I had a wonderful experience with Jaylene and Platinum Salon in every way.

I got "Hot Head" hair extensions done in Houston, TX and I have been trying to find a salon in New York that does them so I can get them re-done. So far I have not had much luck especially with Platinum Salon.

First of all, I call and the first thing I ask is if they do Hot Head hair extensions, get put on hold....same girl answers the phone and asks me again and then puts me on hold again...couple minutes later she asks if she can have my full name and phone number so she can put me in the system. Then I ask her again the same questions and she finally says no. Could have been answered the first time and now I will get junk mail. Great.

    Was this review …?

The best blowout I have ever had. Hands down. Josephine was my stylist and we had a fantastic repore. She was witty, great conversation, skilled with the hairdryer but most of all she listened to what I wanted and not what she wanted to do.

I went to Roseanne today to get a trim, and some color done.  My roots had been growing in, and were looking quite ugh.  I originally made an appointment for single process color.  Now, I'm no hair color guru, I just signed up for what I thought I needed.  Roseanne explained to me that it might be better to do highlights and lowlights instead of single process color, this way my roots don't start growing in with such a stark difference so soon.  I really love the result.  I also really love the fact that even though I made an appointment for a shorter service, she was able to work on me and not rush through the highlighting process.  I really loved the cut as well, I'm not the best at explaining what I want when it comes to cuts and styles, and she was very patient. explaining different possibilities and what she thought would look good combined with what I was looking for.

I can't wait to go back to Platinum salon. :)

Just came back from a haircut with my girlfriend.  They were great in accommodating both of us last minute (and open on a Sunday which is hit or miss for salons in Manhattan).

Angela cut my hair.  She was very nice, attentive, and gave me a really solid haircut.  It can always be scary with a new stylists, but when she was finished I only asked her to make 2 minor changes.

Christine cut my gf's cut.  My gf said that she let Christine take the reigns on the appointment and was very pleased with her vision and the final result.

Good atmosphere and pretty convenient location.

You can spend more and you can spend less on a haircut in Manhattan, but I think the value and cost (from my research) is pretty spot on.  My men's cut was $40 and the gf's cut was $57. I would give it 5 stars if the prices were just a touch lower, but I have never spent more than $35 on a haircut until today...so I may be biased in pricing.

I would say there is a solid chance I will be going back again.

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.

I really wanted to love this place.  For one, it's so damn
convenient, just down the street from my apartment.  The prices are fair as well.  But, that's about where it stops for me.

I had been to see Christine a few times.  Loved her.  Great cut, sweet girl, not too chatty.  So, you can imagine my disappointment upon arriving for an appointment a few months ago and learning that she was out sick.  Instead, they assured me that Ava/Eva (?) would give me a great cut.   Well, Ava/Eva was a sour-puss from the moment I arrived.  Not at all friendly and seemingly annoyed that she had to take Christine's customer.  When I commented that I would love to have "some layers" put in in the front, she scrunched her face and remarked "I don't understand what you're asking for...there's no such thing as 'some layers.'  I either add layers or I don't."  Yikes!  And EXCUSE me.  Anyway, the cut was mediocre, and the attitude was not appreciated.  Fool me once.

Last weekend, I was desperate for a cut and highlight, so I decided to see if Platinum could squeeze me in.  I called and I was told that Christine was no longer working there (boo!), but their new stylist, Rosanne, would be happy to see me.  The receptionist went on and on about how she was "the best" and amazing at color and although he wouldn't tell me her rates (so annoying), he assured me that she would be happy to "work with me."  Desperation and a head full of split ends will make a girl do crazy things, I took the appointment and headed over.  Roseanne was nice enough, but she committed the most common and most annoying hairdresser mistake.  She DID.NOT.LISTEN.

"I need my ends trimmed and I'd like some layers, but I want to keep the length.  I would also like to go lighter overall with a half-head of highlights in a honey tone."  She reponds "I'm not going to do a half-head of highlights, I'm going to give you just a few accent highlights"  Pardon!?  I should have walked out at that point, but, obviously, I did not.

An hour and a half and $141 later, I still had no layers, my overall color was DARKER than when I arrived and I had just a few brassy highlights in the front. Essentially, none of the things I had asked for.  I told her that I had expected more highlights and she told me that she "didn't want to over-do it" since i was a new customer.... Um, ok...

To add insult to injury, I was forced to sit next to the receptionist.  Oh.MY.GOD.  I now know more about his life than I know about my own husband's.  He spoke so loudly and so incessantly the entire time I was there that I started fantasizing about taking a pair of scissors and bursting my own eardrums.  Really, he was that annoying.

Anyway, fool me twice, shame on me.

Like most people, I am always very picky about where I get my hair done. I'm usually willing to pay a little more than average because I like to feel like it's going to be done right the first time and I have more room to gripe if it is not. After having read all the positive reviews here on yelp I finally chose Platinum because it's close to my work and they are open later than most other salons. I was in and out in an hour and half with a color, cut and style!

Jaylene was my stylist and let me just start by saying I FREAKING LOVE MY NEW HAIR! I have long hair and after having not colored it in 6 months I decided to go red. Jaylene had great suggestions and knew how to work with my hair even though I had about four inches of roots. The color wasn't quite as red as I wanted but she told me to try it out for a week and if I wanted to tone it more to come back in. After a fews days I decided that I am happy with where it is. I got about three inches cut which was long overdo and I love my new sweep-like bangs and Jaylene is one of the fastest stylist I've ever had.

Did I mention that I was served wine while my color was sitting?

An all over great experience! I'll definitely be going back!

Have to go from 4 stars to 1 on this one. While I initially felt the staff, including Peter who cut my hair, were completely engaged, on subsequent visits the environment was chaotic, messy & generally unpleasant. During my last two cuts Peter was answering phones, stopped cutting my hair more than twice to joke with the employees. On one visit, he actually walked away to the back to speak with someone on his phone. It became a little embarrassing and I felt like my head was just a dollar sign to them.

I should also say the staff here seems quite aggressive with monitoring their Yelp* reviews. My recent review of their new location, giving my feedback on my attempts to try and schedule an appointment, was responded to by one of the owners/managers (?) in a flaming, snarky and nasty note. NOT cool, NOT professional and NOT worthy of your business.

This is a review for their nail salon in the back.

I needed to get a nice manicure and pedicure for my engagement.  So I called and set an appointment for 2 on a Sunday.

I get there slightly early at 1:45.  The receptionist is exceptionally nice and gives me a glass of wine.  Wow!  I've never been treated like this before at a nail salon.  I read a magazine while I wait for my pedicurist to finish with her current job.

At 2:05 the pedicurist walks over, and instead of greeting me by my name, she looks at me awkwardly and asks, "Manicure/Pedicure?" Yes, I answer, wondering why they asked for my name for the appointment in the first place.  No matter, this was going to be a lovely Sunday afternoon with wine and a foot scrub...or so I thought.

I sit in the back where the decor is really nice.  I place my feet in the tub and continue to read the magazine - apparently she's finishing up on another customer's manicure still.

    I continue to read...

30 minutes later she is finally finished with the other customer.  My toes look like prunes and I'm wondering why they would book me so close to the last person.  Instead of apologizing, she says "Isn't it nice to soak your feet so long?  It helps with the cuticles."  I guess you could look at it that way.  I still decide to give this place a chance.  She begins on my pedicure.  It's very rushed and she doesn't massage my feet at all, my favorite part of any pedicure.  Just exfoliates and lotions it before applying nail --- oh wait, the girl before me just ruined 2 nails.  She goes back to fix them as I sit there longer, reading my magazine...

She finally returns and does my toenails.  (There is a really small selection of nail colors to choose from.) Finally she finishes, and we move to the manicure table.

This is where my review drops from 3 stars to 1 star.  The manicure was such an awful experience I almost want to cry just thinking about it.  Okay, I'll give the manicurist props for holding a conversation about engagements and family, etc.  Aside from that, her technique was really amateur and she managed to draw blood from my thumb cuticle...pretty badly, it took about 10 minutes to stop bleeding.  That evening when I was sitting at home I also noticed a wound on my pinky.  No one should ever have to suffer wounds during a manicure.

I should mention that there is only one manicurist/pedicurist working the entire salon every day of the week.  So why do they insist on packing people into slots when they don't have the manpower for it?  While she was doing my manicure, two more customers walked in and started soaking their feet - I was shocked at how unprofessional and inconsiderate this salon was about treating our time.

I left the salon at 4:45.  This is no exaggeration - the manicure/pedicure took 2 hours and 45 minutes.

If I could give negative stars I would.  This ruined my mood the night before one of the biggest days of my life.

Got a sweet lil' deal via Lifebooker for a haircut & decided to give Platinum a shot. However, I will say that even if I hadn't gotten the Lifebooker special, Platinum's service prices are right on the money- moreso during this economy.

The atmosphere is chill, the treatment is quite attentive, they have some wine for you to sip on.

I'm a huge believer in 1st impressions & the receptionist set it off just right. Cordial young man with positive energy

Because I tend to have seperation-anxiety when it comes to my hair (let's not forget that not just anyone knows how to deal with curly hair), I was stressin' on what result the stylist was going to give me.

Let me say that Jennifer was FA-BU-LOUSSSS! I would totally recommend her to not only my curly-haired homies, but anyone.

She was easy going, listened to my needs/apprehensions/wants & whole-heartedly delivered the goods.

My healthy-lookin' hair is majorly thankful for the great treatment.

My curly hair has FINALLY found a (affordable) home!

About a year ago, when I lived in LA, I once got my haircut from a bald muscular guy (retired bodybuilder?) at SuperCuts with a tatoo on his head to whom "a little off the sides and top" meant a military cut .  Never again will I enter a SuperCuts, so I moved up to local barbers.

I've only gone to barbers in the city, but decided to check out Platinum Salon due to it being the only place in my area to get a cut at 6:30pm on a Saturday.  I was a little hesitant to pay $35 for a haircut, but it was worth every penny.  I'm used to being asked little more than, "how short do you want it?" so it was a little overwhelming to be asked a dozen questions about what I wanted.  My hair was her canvass: it was almost as though I was a crime scene witness, being questioned in great detail so that the police could create a flawless sketch of the suspect.

Ava (cute and funny asian lady with purple hair) did a great job.  She started with a 10 minute scalp massage that was nothing short of relaxing and orgasmic.  Definitely the best haircut I've had in a long time and the complimentary scalp massage here now makes this my go-to place for a haircut.

They also have a great rewards system (pyramid scheme?) where money you and your guests spend goes towards future services.  I am in no way affiliated with this salon (other than getting one really good haircut there) and they have sent me a coupon for $25 off services of $49 or more, valid for first time customers only (until Feb 8).

Shoot me a message on yelp with your email address, and I will forward you the $25 off $49 or more coupon (first time customers only) .  Hey, at least I'll admit it may sound like I'm caught up in a pyramid scheme, but it is a great deal and a great cut.

    This is a great place!
Location! Location! Location!  23rd between 6th and 7th...you can get there from any part of town.
All the people that work there are super friendly and you can actually get wine or beer while you wait...which is usually a short time.
I loooooove that you can set up your appointments online.  So you don't even have to call...and if you're like me who deals with life while everyone else is sleeping...this is awesome!

Last, but certainly not least, DANNY is the absolute best!  Finding him has been the happiest accident since I arrived to NYC over a year ago.  I don't even have to tell him what I want...he always gives me a great haircut and it's not always the same...but it's always fabulous.  He changes styles depending on the season and on what would look best at any given time.  Not that he couldn't do something specific...I just trust him blindly.  Plus he's super cute and terribly funny.

I would totally give platinumnewyork 5 stars were it not for the fact that they don't do waxing and nails...it would be great to be able to do one-stop shopping.
If you need a good haircut (then forget about paying $20 or $30!) and are willing to pay a fair price ($52 for Danny, some are a little cheaper...) then don't give it a second thought!
(I thought I should keep it hush-hush so as to not have problems scheduling in the future...but it's a crime not to share).

I got my hair did here by my boo, Ava. She politely told me not to wait so long for my next haircut. Turns out she was right. She transformed a helmet head of a dead animal into a sleek, modern, short do that really brought out my eyes. (Jooooookes.)

Seriously though. Ava was really good about "checking in" to see how I was feeling about the length. I normally don't like to go too short because my head is small and if I was close to bald or bald I'd probably look like a newborn kangaroo. Have you seen them? http://farm2.static.fl...

Anyway, at one point it was looking really good and Ava asked me if I wanted it shorter. Against my better judgment I said yes because I figured it was (A) more bang for my buck and (B) it would save me some time before my next cut. She went ahead and cut it and I had a minor panic attack thinking it was too short, especially as she began to thin it out (which I love, don't get me wrong) and layer it (also love).

But it was only one or two days of discomfort (thinking it was too short) and within a week it was manageable again. So I'm thankful I went short!

Platinum is one of the best salons I've found based on their prices and services. The shampoo includes a nice scalp massage, they offer water/wine/coffee/etc, and it's still $20 cheaper than what I've paid for other places around the block.

Like another reviewer, this is the first time I booked my next appointment before leaving. Great place!

Would I jump off a bridge if Yelpers told me to?

Maybe, because I went here completely based off the reviews, and it did not disappoint.  A friend told me I trust this website too much.. but I have yet to get a rash, so until I get a burning sensation, I'll stick with Yelp.

I mentioned to my stylist that I heard about the salon on here, but she had already gotten word of the Yelp buzz about her.  Truly modest, she said she had no desire to be a cyber-celeb, and proceeded to give me a great, very-affordable cut.

    Highlights:
    - Cleaned up the back with straight razor, not an electric shaver, nice.
    - Scalp massage, great.
    - Good conversation
    - New customers get a $25 gift certificate to pass on to another new customer
    - 15% off using http://Lifebooker.com - highly recommend

I can't remember the last time I pre-booked my next haircut but I made sure to here, 5 stars for service & value.

Taking a random chance on coming to Platinum Salon was a great choice of mine!

Since I work in the nabe, I had passed this place numerous times and finally decided to trim those dead ends off. They had a walk-ins welcome board posted on their sidewalk which screams it is not pretentious. I walked in on St. Patty's night and only had to wait 2 minutes. They offered me wine, but I chose water (just one of those days where drinking was the last thing I wanted to do).

I was paired with a great stylist, Ava who was friendly, asked a good amount of questions, and my hair looked great after my cut. Surprisingly I did not look up this salon on Yelp prior to my trip. I think this was a first in a while. I trust most of you Yelpies and often finding it a must before I frequent a new establishment!

I like the fact they don't have separate people washing your hair and doing color. Ava is a one-stop shop and I will coming back here again. She is considered a gold stylist. They have silver, gold, and platinum stylist which range from 40-60 bucks for a haircut. 50 bucks isn't bad for a great stylist who listens and can pinpoint what looks good on you as well!

Last but not least, they have ONLINE booking! This is the most convenient service ever. You can choose time, date, and stylist all without have to call and be put on hold!

To preface this: I rarely have my hair cut professionally and will not / can not spend a fortune - anything over 50 is too much for me.

I came here once before, maybe in February? I can't remember. Either way, my cut my great but my stylist at the time so-so. She was super nice until she received my tip - for a $50 hair cut I gave her $15, which is 30%.  She gave me an offended look and made me feel SUPER awkward (I'm awkward enough as it is so I don't need any help in that department!). Needless to say, I will not return to her. I was not about to write off the salon, however.

After receiving a text message promotion, I came back this week and my overall experience was 10x better.

Chloe washed, cut and styled my hair and did so without the use of any hair products outside of shampoo and conditioner (by request) - and it turned out amazingly! She did a fantastic job on my fine and long hair and taught me how to recreate the look. She even showed me which brush to buy. Considering my lack of hair care skills, this advice was easy to implement without any sort of gel or spray aid.

It was wonderful to work with a stylist that was, not only nice and very open and patient about creating the look I wanted, but also willing to give out hair tips to maintain the health of my hair.

Love this salon. I work nearby and have reasonably difficult hair and they handled it amazingly well. Once was a blowout and the other was a very curly cut.  Christina did my blowout and was great. Randy did wonders with my hair for the cut. A-mazing. No attitude, very friendly and attentive. Positively love this salon.

Not superpricey which is incredible. Completely love it.

Ava is the bomb - 5 stars.  She is at Rizza now though.

The Salon itself is perfectly fine - 4 stars.

The salon doesn't cut my hair though, it is all about Ava.

Just moved back to NYC from San Francisco and was in search of a new 'artist' for my hair.  Never a easy find - so I waited until my hair was looking extra shaggy and came across Platinum.  I was lucky enough to be scheduled with Regina this morning.  Within the 45 min it took to wash, cut, and style my hair I was constantly entertained - even with the slight hangover I was trying handle.  The haircut looks great and I'll be sure to be seeing her every 5 weeks or so - hope you do too!

The salon itself is alright - nothing too crazy - minimal products, but clean and that's always important - esp in NYC.

    Attentive receptionist as well!!!

    I love Randy!!
She is very personable and great with hair. She has an actual love for her job and is always pleasant!!!

Downside, platinum is a bit pricey for the services my nappy roots require so one star down =(

I can't believe I forgot to yelp Platinum.  I swore that as soon as I got home from my first visit (about two months ago) I would give my wonderful new stylist, 'Ele, a great review.  Well, here is that golden review, although belated:

I have never been happier with my hair, and I have been pretty happy with it in the past.  I am INCREDIBLY picky and flighty when it comes to salons, and I tend to bounce from one to the next, always feeling like I want to try some place new.  I think I may finally be ready for commitment.  Actually, I know I am.

My hair is very hard to work with: baby fine, but mighty unruly.  When I went into Platinum, it was a mess- totally fried and yellow by box coloring and hard water.  When I left Platinum, my hair was full and textured even with hardly any product in it, cut in the most darling and delightfully daring bob, and colored a super pretty shade of shimmery pearl.  My hair was also feeling incredibly healthy, and two months later it feels just as good. My hair is so easy to style, and always looks incredible.  I can't believe how full it looks all the time. Even if I wash my hair and sleep on it, it comes out looking great.  Total magic!  The most impressive part is the bangs.  My fine hair usually doesn't handle bangs very well, but 'Ele knew exactly how to work with it.

Let me also say that the conversation was awesome- haunted houses and all.  I look forward to going back.

I also bought products here, which I NEVER do, but the people here know what they're talking about, so I was quite inclined to listen.  By the way, the shampoo and conditioner they sold me are great, and I don't even need to buy more.  A little goes a long way.

They don't push products either.  In fact, 'Ele recommended that I purchase Shimmer Lights for a buck from the local drug store.  Haven't done that yet, because I still have a lot of the nice stuff left, but I still appreciate the tip!

Yeah, my first visit to Platinum was fun.  I love my hair.  Thanks, 'Ele.

Anyways, see you in a few days, Platinum.  Looking forward to it.

Henry, will you be my new BFF? For serious, I've never had such a great time at a salon! The moment I walked in, the girl at the desk was super nice, offered me water/a glass of wine (I had coffee a la Cafe Pedlar, so I was just fine)- I was 10min early, and didn't even have to wait.

Henry sat me down, and we talked hair for a bit. I'm not too picky, or too crazy when it comes to my hair, but he agreed with what I wanted done, and even made some great suggestions.

The wash was fabulous- (granted, he admitted he was giving me a longer shampoo so he could listen to some drama happening behind us haha) and the scalp massage is something doctors should order on a daily basis.

He really took his time to do a great job, and the conversation was effortless- not as awkward as it can sometimes be at salons. He styled it beautifully (I only wish it held up in the heat!) and gave me awesome suggestions on how to do it myself (I'm handicapped when it comes to styling my hair, matching my clothes, and cooking- really, I'm a terrible female).

The cut, through lifebooker, was discounted- but I would've certainly paid full price for such a great experience and beautiful cut.

Next time I'm coming armed with friendship bracelets for me and my new BFF, Henry.

    1/7/2011 Purchased a Yelp Deal

I usually go to a really nice salon and was tired of really over paying. I purchased the yelp deal for a highlight, condition, and blow out. I LOVED the results. Anna C. did my highlights. She was so nice and very particular and wanted to make sure it was perfect and I was happy. I tried to make an appointment with Anna C. to return for a trim but I was told that she no longer works there. Does anyone happen to know what salon she moved to? I would love to find her...if I can't I'll try one of the other stylist!

Simply the best! No ifs, ands, or buts about it! I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have stumbled across Platinum (thanks in part to yelp). From the gorgeous/friendly receptionist Denver to the Salon Manager and colorist extordinaire-Rosie...everyone here is top notch! I've never come out not feeling 100x more glam then when I walked in. I've been to many a salon, but this one trumps them all in every way!

What do you do when you are scheduled for a photo shoot and your hair needs help? The shoot was near Platinum and I had been meaning to check it out. I made an appointment for the time I wanted on Saturday. They have three levels of stylists and the prices are accordingly. The day of the shoot is cold, rainy and windy. Stylist greets me saying "well this is a good day to get  your hair done"

We agree that she is going to make it big because if it falls it will still look done. The salon is trendy/fashionable without being obnoxious; is also clean. Chloe gets down to business and the result was one of the better blow outs i have EVER had-it stayed in the crazy weather and continued to look good until Tuesday (a woman at work asked me if I had extensions and refused to believe it was all me until she (gently) pulled my hair. I will definitely be returning!

    3/26/2011 1 Check-in Here

Just had my hair cut and highlights by Melanie, she did an amazing job. She made great suggestions for the highlights, and cut my hair exactly as I asked. She also gave me some tips on getting more volume in my hair and taught me how to replicate the finishing at home. I couldn't be happier, and booked my next appointment before leaving the salon. Melanie gets 5 stars!!

First of all, this place finally broke my fear of salons.

I hadn't gone to get my hair cut in over a year and that was a traumatic experience. Before that it had been years and years. But I had a wedding coming up so I figured what the hey.

I found them through http://Lifebooker.com and it was such a great experience.

    THANKS AVA!

Ava was ready for me right on time and by then everyone had offered me water, tea, wine etc. A glass of wine while I get my hair did is they key to my heart. Ava listened to what I wanted, gave some feedback and sent me to get my hair washed where I received an amazing scalp massage.

Then Ava began on my hair. She'd stop periodically to check to see what I thought, and I'd ask her to change this or that. I even changed my mind on the length a couple times and she went back in and did it again. Before I knew it, Ava had spent 2 hours doing my hair EXACTLY how I wanted it.
I wasn't pressured to buy any other products or treatments. It was just nice, and relaxing and pretty perfect. I finally have a haircut that doesn't just get pulled back into a pony tail and it was exactly what I wanted.
And this place is so affordable! Yay Platinum!!

Picture it. It's Saturday and I walk into Platinum Salon where I am greeted by a pretty young receptionist who takes my coat and offers me wine, coffee, or some water while I wait for Christine to finish up her current client.

A few minutes later Christine greets me and introduces me to a shampoo lady (I think her name is Fabiola or something like this) who worked her magic on my locks. She was massaging my head like you wouldn't believe and once she was done with me a tear rolled down my cheek.

After that came the rollers and a little R&R under a dryer with a cup of joe. Then came the cut and style part followed by a flat iron straightening. I enjoyed myself (and the gossip I got to overhear) and am already scheduled to go back in November. Definitely worth the money folks so don't knock it.

I'm a bit worried that raving about this place on Yelp will cause the traffic and the prices to increase...but I have to share my salon experience with my people.  I noticed this place when it first opened, because my boyfriend lives in the area.  I checked it out on Yelp and the reviews gave me the green light, so I made an appointment.

I don't remember my stylist's name, but he told me he used to do hair for the Miss Puerto Rico pageant.  I know what you're thinking...no he did not give me huge, over-styled "pageant hair."  I'm from Texas, but that's not how I roll.  He gave me a very trendy and cute long, layered cut, with perfect bangs that have continued to look great as they've grown out.

I mentioned their grand opening special, which they honored even though it was no longer advertised and I didn't have the flyer.  That meant 15% off of my $60 cut, plus a free manicure.  Oh, and as an added bonus, I guess since they're still trying to draw in new customers, I also got a free 10 minute massage!

I left the salon feeling incredibly pampered and NYC glamorous, all for about $60 including tips.  Platinum Salon is the first place I got my hair did since I moved to the city, but I can't imagine I'll go any place else.

I loved the Platinum experience!  I came for the $30 mani-pedi yelp special and left a very satisfied customer.  The charming and fiercely well dressed receptionist felt like my long lost bestie as he got me a complimentary glass of wine and helped me pick out my polish color.  The polish selection and quality was adequate, but not spectacular (the color I wanted was all dried up in the bottle and my alternative selection ended up chipping a little too easily before the wedding I was in 36 hours later); however, the service was just sensational.  My manicurist was meticulous and funny!  We talked New York fashion and boyfriends just like they do at the salons in the movies.  I was living the mani-pedi dream, ladies!

I must take issue with the fact that the massaging pedicure chairs do not recline at all; that's not all that comfortable.  Platinum appears to be set up to do more hair than nails.  I was even courted by a stylist while there (but I'm devoted to my Annie at Soon Beauty Lab).  It really does seem like a very cool place to get your hair done; all of the styles I saw leaving the salon that night were impressive.  The mani-pedi was a great deal and a super fun experience.  I will definitely be visiting again!

One of the best haircuts and blowouts I've had in a long time! Angela P was great and spent a lot of time asking me if this or that was ok or if she could do anything else different. It wasn't just, sit here and I'm going to cut your hair, which I definitely appreciated. The only thing weird about the salon was that I was asked 3 times if I wanted something to drink (first by the receptionist, I said water and never got it; then by the guy who shampooed my hair, I said water and never got it; and last by another lady walking around, I said water and never got it). They should get their act together on that. One time, ok I get it, but 3 times?! I'm beginning to think it was just an empty question, haha. But definitely go and ask for Angela, and with the Lifebooker amazing price, I was able to give a nicer tip than usual.

Platinum Salon is the only place I'll go for a fantastic hair cut.

I called today (a Sunday) and was doubtful that they'd be able to fit me in for a same-day appointment... but they did!  Brian was really great on the phone.  He suggested that I have Henry cut and style my hair.

HENRY. IS. AMAZING.  I've NEVER seen my hair look this phenomenal.  It's bouncy and full, and he didn't even use hairspray. He's also super friendly.

The salon itself is great, too.  While I was waiting, they brought me wine.  The place has a nice vibe.

5 stars.  I highly recommend Platinum Salon.  I love my hair.

I was pleasantly surprised by the service at Platinum Salon.

I made an appointment on Life Booker for a single process hair color.  After booking I immediately received a confirmation call from the salon.  The woman on the phone asked if I also wanted a blow out which I confirmed.

At the salon I was greeted by Ava who is super sweet and an amazing stylist.   She spent a few months at a super high end salon (which I shall leave unnamed) and walked away with some great training.

She colored my hair perfectly.  Listened to what I wanted and did a much better job than stylists I've visited at other more "high end" salons.

The only reason for 4 stars was that there was some wierd interaction between the receptionist and either the manager/owner of the salon.  They were bickering over something and the result was a kind of odd atmosphere.

That being said Ava was awesome and I will definitely be back to see her again!

I absolutely LOVE Platinum New York. I go to the new one at the Hotel on Rivington. I got extensions done by Daryle and he is AMAZING! The atmosphere is great and the receptionist will definitely keep you entertained...he is fab!
Be prepared to spend some money but it is well worth it.
