Front end staff not always friendly, but this is a great Veterinary clinic with ethics, how many Vets. do you know that will rescue dogs or cats with fractured legs and repair them with no money and turn around and adopt them, i would highly recommend this clinic, you help give back to the homeless animals by going here! they do require your pet to be spayed or neutered, this is a good thing!

My cat is diabetic and the insulin she uses will be discontinued. PPP has the replacement insulin on hand, but they have not yet determined the dosage that cats will require. They did not give me a time frame on when they would look into this. They do not seem to be in a hurry to figure this out.

In the mean time, they have raised the price of the discontinued insulin by over 30% and have not informed their customers prior to purchasing that prices have changed.  I told them I was not informed about the price increase when I asked them to put the discontinued insulin on hold for me. They did nothing. I'm a full time student and have to plan my budget down to the penny.

The next 2 weeks I will not be eating so my cat can have her insulin. At least she's a sweetheart and is worth it.

I had been pleased with this vet up until this point. I'm giving PPP the benefit of the doubt that their supplier is the one who raised the prices on the discontinued insulin (hopefully PPP is not just about $), but I still should have been notified and they should be making efforts to remedy this issue immediately.

Hmmm... this website does not allow me to create a new review to update you. Instead I have to edit this one and make it really long... sorry.

The owners of PPP contacted me to update me on the plan of action for the insulin change for my cat. What really impresses me about this is this was the result of my posting my previous review on this website! That really showed me that the owners of PPP are committed and proactive about their customers' concerns. Any other business could have easily ignored what I said. I can see now that the owners of PPP have a lot of pride in what they do.

As a result of the follow up from PPP, I will continue to do business with them. They have earned my trust, respect and business back.

I have mixed feelings about Planned Pethood and here is why:

A couple years ago, I was playing with my dog at Berkeley Park. She cut her paw on a piece of glass. Planned Pethood is on the way home and I stopped because I wanted a vet to look at her cut. I took the dog in. The staff was not concerned about her bleeding all over the floor. They were MORE concerned whether or not she is spayed or neutered. She is not fixed. They declined to help. However in meantime, they sent an employee out to get my license plate number. The next day, Denver Animal Control shows up at the front door and tells me that I have been reported for breeding dogs at my residence. WTF?

Long story short: I am a huge advocate for spaying and neutering. At the time I was doing extensive Volunteer work for a non-profit cat rescue. Our dog is not fixed because it was my husband's decision, not mine. We have a secure backyard with a 6-ft. privacy fence and EXTREMELY careful when she is fertile (she is basically quarantined at home).

In the County of Denver, you have to get an "Intact" License ($100 - renewed annually) if your dog is not spayed and neutered plus the regular dog license, which we promptly did.

I guess what bothered me is the knee-jerk reaction that the staff at Planned Pethood had. I know they see too many dogs and cats euthanized because of the pet overpopulation problem. However, I feel they overreacted and find their methods excessive and extreme.

I know they do a ton of good for the community because I see the low-cost spay/neuter line every Saturday  morning. That Is why I am not completely PISSED at them.

I can't say enough great things about Planned Pethood. I foster kittens for the Clear Creek County Animal Rescue League, and I bring all my kitties here for spaying and neutering. While already very affordable, they cut the rescue a deal. They're doing a great service to the community by offering affordable altering for pets- I'm sure that many unwanted litters and subsequent shelter deaths have been prevented because a low income owner could afford neutering/spaying at Planned Pethood.

I've never had any complications from spays and neuters here- unless you count a very, very angry cat. All my foster babies have recovered quickly. The stitches seem very well done- I used to work at a vet clinic, so I appreciate their technique. The clinic is always busy, a very good sign!

While I've only had spays and neuters done here, Planned Pethood is a full service veterinary hospital that does everything from orthopedic surgery to growth removal. The catch is, your animal MUST be spayed/neutered to receive any low-cost services here.  They will not admit an intact pet unless you agree to have it spayed/neutered at the same time as any other procedure you want done- of course, this is only an option if it's safe to do so, so take seriously ill intact animals elsewhere.

I love, love, love Planned Pethood for their gorgeous mural, the friendly staff, the help they give CCCARL, and their competent, low-cost veterinary services.

I'm of two minds about Planned Pethood:

1) I think the vets they have are qualified. They performed eye surgery on my cat some years back, and did a good job.

2) I think the vet techs are average or worse, and when dealing with the vet techs I've had that institutional feeling rather than a personable experience. Worth it for a vaccination or clipping nails, but I would try to avoid having an appointment where a vet tech is responsible primarily for helping you.

3) I have heard some stories from friends who were very dissatisfied with services at Planned Pethood, and the true animal people that I know will not go there.

I recommend Urban Veterinary Care over PP+ because while well intentioned, PP+ isn't as professional and thorough as Urban Veterinary Care (see my other review on them).

PLANNED PETHOOD PLUS
Low cost, no frills animal spay and neutering are a boon for many of us poor students.  Additional wonders include easy, fast scheduling and a veterinary staff who actually cares more about the pets than the wallets.  So when I unexpectedly picked up a stray I wasn't sure about keeping, Planned Pethood fit the bill exactly.  The staff booked me an appointment for the next day, gives a drop off window of two hours, and a flier about what to expect after the kitty came home.  Honestly though, I have to give Planned Pethood five stars for honesty.  I brought the cat in to be neutered, and it turns out already was, so they called me and told me so-no charge.  Now, I had checked before bringing him, but he was new to the house and I guess we weren't close enough yet for me to do a proper investigation.  Had the vet pretended to perform the operation I honestly wouldn't have known the difference.
