NO!!

I'm typically pretty open minded about food, I'm not all fussy or anything. I'm not one of those people that give a hoot what kind of oil its cooked in, I dont even know what MSG means.

However, I draw the line at bugs! tiny creepy crawlies in my cheese sandwich makes me say no!

Two stars instead of one because the boys that work here are sooo very cute, and nice too.

I made a long trip in the snow to get a sub yesterday, and it was just gone, and I mean mf'n -GONE-. All the markings still up on the door, but nothing inside. My soul wept.

These subs are gross and grossly over-priced.

I placed an order for a large-ish group in late afternoon for the following day, to be ready at an improbable time (8:30am!), plus wanted to use free sub cards we'd been given, and just pay for the drinks and chips.

Their response: "No problem!"

The subs were good, the staff was friendly, they were accommodating and easy going. I think I definitely owe them one - and I don't think it will be onerous to give them some custom. Give it a try.

Love it, love it, love it!!  This is my favorite place for subs-hands down.  I used to live in KC, and went to school at Kansas State (Planet Sub locations in both places, thank god!) so I was SO excited when the one here opened up.  There are a ton of options, but I always get the Chicken Club.  These are not just sandwiches they slap together in a hurry-it takes about 5-7 minutes to get your order-so if you are in a huge hurry, I would call it in ahead of time and they'll have it waiting right when you get there.  I recommend spending your lunch hour there, though. They'll bring your order out to you, the flat screen TV's are nice, they have reading material, and it's a clean, laid back atmosphere.  I just can't express my love enough for some good old Planet Sub!

I try to stay away from writing reviews about "chains".  But I feel like Planet Sub is a bit different because there is only one in Illinois.

The bread was great.

The sandwich as a whole was OK.  I had a BLT sub.  And while it was super loaded with bacon (something I was worried about, I was afraid the thickness of sub bread would overwhelm the sandwich), it was sort of a dry sandwich.  Maybe I just got one that was low on Mayo.

Good food at a good price.

I was there during the lunch rush and the service was good, the food was ready within a reasonable amount of time, and there were plenty of spots to sit.

I would definitely go back.

One of my favorite sandwich shops. You have to give it a try. Even though I love me some Potbelly, Planet Sub has more variety and the bread is better.

Maybe its nostalgia to the all the Yello Sub I devoured during my days at KU in the early 90's, but I don't think so.  It was so great then, and it's still great.  There were other sub places back then, too, but we all chose Yello Sub anyway.

So the franchises are called Planet Sub.  It's the same deal.  Same in-house baked bread.  Same recipes.  Same frequent sub card deal.  Same toasty goodness.

I have several favorites, the list topped by the namesake Planet Sub, as well as the Torpedo and the Creamy Club.  The Green Turkey will rock you if you like avocado on your sandwich.

I just don't understand how in a world with Potbelly's and Planet Sub that a place like Quiznos with it's overpriced, undersized sandwiches can even exist.  It's a travesty.

A good bread is like a fine wine, only less expensive, and fresher and well bread.  But if bread were a wine I would get so drunk at Planet Sub.  Their bread is very good, prices are reasonable and service is fast.  The windows also open so it is nice in the summertime with cool breeze and a tasty hoggie.

A small chain submarine shop has opened up their first location in Illinois.  They make their whole wheat breads in house and the subs are oven baked.

We brought our subs home cold, the meats and cheese are put on the bread and the rest are put in separate containers.  Had the yellow sub, dagwood and corned beef -- very good and the black bean soup, very good with a nice kick.  Reasonable and plentiful.

They have a frequent user card for 6 inch subs - buy 9 get 10th free

They have the signature, chicken, deli, veggie and sea submarines along with wraps, soups and salads.

Open daily 11am-10:30pm
perhaps longer on Fri & Sat in the future

Soft opening 10.28.06

Thank you Brent for your help, time and hospitality.

per site:

Planet Sub started in the late '70s as Yello Sub of Lawrence, Kan., and branched into other states in 1997. Each location has its own design and atmosphere, with original wall images similar to the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" cartoon.

This place has the best subs in the city!!! Their first store was in my college town of Lawrence, KS right next to the Crossing.  This place used to be called "Yellow Sub"  And the place upstairs was "Glass Onion"  both were really good.   Anyway.  Go there and get a sub!!!  The planet sub sandwich is the best.  Thanks for opening up in Chi-Town PS...!

So a friend of mine from Kansas City made a bet with me that Planet Sub's sandwiches are better than Pot Bellys.

I tried Planet Sub today and I have to say I have mixed results.  The bread is definitely better at Planet Sub, but I like the ingredients way better at Pot Bellys.

I ordered the guacamole turkey sub, which was loaded up with gooey, brown guac, cream cheese, sprouts, turkey, a couple onions and some type of mustard.  It was so messy that big globs of goo kept falling into my lap.  And if I'm not mistaken, fresh guac should be a nice bright green color. Brown means it's been around for a while.

Big bummer, I was really excited for this place.  I won't be going back- mainly because the location is so far from me and the parking is difficult, and there's a Pot Bellys about 1/2 block away from home!

Oh and Pot Belly's is about 50c cheaper per sandwich.

Sick of subway?  Then this place is worth a try.

Good place to stop if you are hungry and walking from the train to the lake on Fullerton.. The subs are big and the bread is whole wheat and really tasty. .  Friendly staff and flat panel tv's make it an enjoyable experience.  They have cool garage door windows that they open in the summer.

Try the meatball  sub.
